Glenn recaps the World Cup Final, France’s impressive victory, and compliments Houston’s soccer fandom. Glenn notes Croatia had 61%+ possession in the game but France made it count best. A caller notes that he believes this title will help M’Bappe emerge as one of the top soccer stars on the planet. After the break, a caller notes that if this wasn’t the best World Cup ever, it was the best World Cup group stage ever. Caller A.Y. points out that Germany will go down as the most disappointing, and Croatia as most surprising, and Deschamps of France of best coach. At the end of the hour Glenn has on the owner of The Gorgeous Gael, Peter Kingston talk about why it was great to host so many watch parties at the restaurant. Then, Glenn makes note of Russian punk activist band P**sy Riot running on the field at the 51st minute of the Final.
The second hour starts off with a quick interview with Peter Kingston, owner of the Gorgeous Gael. Peter gives some football insight while promoting his bar for matches during the World Cup. Victor Araiza jumps on the mic to give his assessment on the Houston Dynamo. Glenn brings on Adam Lundqvist, defender for the Houston Dynamo, to join the show and talk about his recent transfer to the Dynamo. Adam gives his thoughts so far on the team and how excited he is to help the club. Glenn gets Adam’s perspective on the Swedish National Team and his hopes of playing for his country in the World Cup. Tom Marshall, from ESPN FC, interviews with Glenn. In the lead up to 30th of September and the opening of The Phantom Art Show in Broken Hill, NSW, Dan chats with co-curators Peter Kingston and Dietmar Lederwasch. Recorded in the period between the Toowoomba and Broken Hill exhibitions, this conversation is a follow up to X-Band episode 42 when Dan, Chris, Gary and Angus reviewed the Toowoomba exhibition. These interviews offer some insight into an older generation of Phantom phans, and examines why two men would collect and commission Phantom themed artworks from some of Australia’s most renowned artists. Please note that the music used through the podcast is taken from Fanta, the short Phantom film that Peter Kingston created with Garry Shead and Gavin Wilson in the 1970s.
