In this episode, hosts Eric Fey and Brianna Lennon speak with some new election administrators in the state of Missouri – all of whom have been in the job less than four years, and are now preparing for their first presidential election. They spoke about Rachel Lightfoot in Polk County, Heather Hall, the Republican Director of the Election Board in Clay County, and Adrienne Lee in Vernon County. They each spoke about how the job has been doing so far, some of the challenges they've faced and what they are looking forward to in November.
2023 was a challenging year for Canadian farmers and ranchers and for humanity in general. We had droughts, wildfires, floods, an affordability crisis and a number of armed conflicts. According to scientists working with the European Union, 2023 smashed temperature records globally. And yet, someone like Nova Scotia organic and biodynamic wine producer, Rachel Lightfoot still finds ways of being optimistic even after her farm got hit by a polar vortex, a dry spring and a very rainy summer all in the same year. Welcome to Stories of Regeneration, a podcast series brought to you by Rural Routes to Climate Solutions and Regeneration Canada. Join me, your host Derek Leahy, as we delve into the importance of supporting an agricultural system that not only prioritizes the health of our land and ecosystems but also ensures the sustainability of our farmers and ranchers. Rachel Lightfoot is a comedian, poet and blogger from Sheffield, South Yorkshire and in this short episode she shares her thoughts, fears, observations and ideas about isolation alongside a couple of her poems. Rachel Lightfoot was flying high at Google and YouTube where she learned digital marketing from the ground up and taught it to Nike and Coca-Cola, even to celebrities like Will Smith. “I was living this fantastic life. I was on the fast track. I had a beautiful home, a husband. Before I had kids I thought, ‘My God, I’ve done it!’” Once her children turned one and three, however, the feeling wasn’t joy and excitement, but “deep sorrow” because Lightfoot says her mind was "always on the job and the company’s clients.” Lightfoot , the family breadwinner, "decided what I needed was a reset.” Lightfoot speaks with CoveyClub founder Lesley Jane Seymour about how she prepared (by saving six months of living expenses and putting a moratorium on shopping) and took the leap into Catchfoot + Run (https://www.catchfootandrun.com/) , a brand-building consulting company. One year later she is “100% more present in my life” and has "almost replaced my corporate salary.” Episode notes: Lightfoot’s top inspirational tips: 1) Start before you’re ready. 2) Create a mailing list—even if you have nothing to sell. 3) Read. Her most inspirational book: Playing Big by Tara Moore (https://amzn.to/2tdVOl8) “which discusses two types of fear. One is true fear but another is excitement or awe when you go outside your comfort zone. I was excited and scared."
Last week Instagram announced IGTV! Instagram TV allows users to create a channel and upload videos up to 10 minutes in length. Videos can also be edited professionally and uploaded with a thumbnail, title, and description, all similar to YouTube. So what does this mean for us as YouTube creators? How do we leverage IGTV? In this live stream a former employee of YouTube, Rachel Melby, will join us to discuss her thoughts on the impact IGTV will have on YouTube, the differences between the two platforms, and some advice for creators who are wondering how to best use IGTV as part of their YouTube strategy.
