Pastor Bobby continues diving into the Prodigal Son story as we take a look at the "other son."
THE END! Shut the book! For many, maybe even most, that is where the parable ends because that is what we think the parable is all about. Looking at it from our vantage point, we tend to come to the celebration of the lost son coming home and feel good and warm hearted. That is especially true if we have experienced salvation ourselves, realizing that we who rebelled against God and tried to go our way were welcomed home by our heavenly Father. And because of that, we may think of the audience in front of Jesus being teary-eyed and joyful. But for at least half the crowd that was definitely not the case.

Just because we are doing good things and working for God does not mean we are experiencing closeness to Him. The Father longs for us to be close to Him.

This week we continue the parable of the Prodigal Son by focusing on the older son. We’ll use his actions as a cautionary tale about being self-centric and will outline some positive strategies to avoid some of the common stumbling blocks that everyone (including the new graduates!) may experience while trying to live a good Christian life.
The root of bitterness runs deep. Choose to forgive and let go of the past hurts and God will give you new life.

In the parable of the prodigal son, there were two lost people. In this sermon we examine the second of two; the religious lost person. This is easily the easiest sin that "veteran Christians" can get. Have you forgotten and forsaken the sweet Gospel?
The mindset of the older brother prevents him from being able to enjoy being his father's son. He never seemed to have enjoyed serving his father, or working with his father. In the older brother's mind, his life was one of bondage and not freedom, duty and not joy. The reaction of the other brother is pretty terrible but I wonder if his reaction/mindset is really all that unique. I'm fairly convinced that one thing that keeps people bound up and unable to experience the freedom Jesus came to give is that they have the same mindset that the other brother had.

The second part of the Prodigal son story focuses on the other brother; do you have a little of the "other brother" in you?

This is the 5th and final part in our series, "Lost & Found", as we finish up Luke 15 and looking at this great parable. In this message, we look at the prodigal son's older brother and how his attitudes and actions lead him to not entering the party. We are warned against becoming like the older brother.
