Eric Cepin3-12-23Being a disciple is radical and extreme: Luke 9:23 is our anchor, our theme verse, that tells us to take up our cross and follow Jesus. We've been applying this idea to many different ideas: courage, waiting, hospitality, gender, ect. Today, we will talk about radical marriage...and this applies to singleness as well.ContinueSupport the showThe Village Church's sermon podcast is a weekly source of inspiration and guidance for the community. Questions:1. Who gets to tell you who you are? (whether you know it or not, you have to wrestle withthis daily!)2. What holds your affection(s)? What is the object of your desire(s)? (The answer to thisquestion may help you with the first question!)3. A mind-blowing statement: Something you never knew: You have a body! This is brilliant! If you remember nothing else, remember this! Why would I be saying these things? Today we are talking about gender: Radical Gender.Every week we review what it looks like to follow Jesus:Luke 9:2323 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and takeup his cross daily, and follow me.Last week when we talked about Radical Submission, you should have noticed that things aregetting harder! If you are going to follow Jesus, everything is on the table, including your gender.Gender is a hard word: it's getting more weird and complicated as time goes on. Some of youwould say your gender is Male and Female. However, we need to get to the core of this anddeal with it! We need to think about the questions above.Let's start with the waters that we swim in: The items in the list below all contribute answers to“Who are you?” “What is the object of your affection?” and “You have a body.”Continually ReadingLinks to Healing the CityEric's StorySexualitySupport the showThe Village Church's sermon podcast is a weekly source of inspiration and guidance for the community. Two ideas to wrestle with today:We are all parents: you are a parent if you are in the kingdom of God.and Who is God calling you to parent? Radical parenting looks at parenting in a different way than you might think of it. In Mark 3, Jesus has been called insane and accused of being the devil and his family is worried. The crowd tells him his mother and brothers are there and Jesus takes this opportunity to turn this upsidedown.Continued ReadingSupport the showThe Village Church's sermon podcast is a weekly source of inspiration and guidance for the community. This morning, we read I Peter 2:2-9. This was written by Peter, an apostle, and you can read his story in the Gospels and Acts. Peter wrote I and II Peter but most likely he dictated the first and wrote the second himself. The reason for that is that I Peter is a piece of beautiful literature and II Peter is just about the worst! This is an interesting sidenote. On today's MinistryWatch EXTRA episode, we're featuring a recent interview I had with pastor and author Jason Jimenez. Jason has served as a pastor and ministry leader, and his books include The Bible's Answer To Live's 100 Biggest Questions, which he co-authored with Dr. Norman Geisler. He is also the author of Challenging Conversations: A Practical Guide to Discuss Controversial Topics in the Church. Jason also leads Stand Strong Ministries, and he often posts helpful videos on Christian worldview and apologetics issues. I want to have Jason on the program today because of one of those videos. Jason recorded a short, 13-minute video about a story we've been covering here at MinistryWatch, and that's the Matt Chandler story. If you don't know that story, here it is in a nutshell. Matt Chandler is the well known pastor of The Village Church, a megachurch in Dallas. Chandler was also a founder and played a prominent leadership role in the Acts 29 church planting network. He recently took a sabbatical from his church following accusations that he had an inappropriate relationship with a woman in his church. That relationship was not sexual in nature, but included text messages that Chandler admitted and his church elder board ultimately determined were too familiar for him to be having. (You can read what MinistryWatch has written about Matt Chandler here.) After several months away from the pulpit, Chandler is now back. And some have criticized him and his church for letting him come back too quickly. However, Jason Jimenez has a different perspective. He says this is an example of church discipline that worked. You can see Jason's video here: https://youtu.be/z_80I0k8kuo A Few Final Words: Before we go, I'd like to remind you that MinistryWatch is donor supported. We take no money from ministries. All of our content is free. No paywall. That means we couldn't do what we do without faithful donors. You guys are the real heroes of this enterprise. So if you'd like to join that heroic group by pitching in to make sure that MinistryWatch remains a viable endeavor, you can go to MinistryWatch.com and hit the “donate” button at the top of the page. Or click here. And if you donate in the month of February, we'll send you a really helpful book as our “thank you.” The book is called Handing Allegations In A Ministry: Responses and Investigations. It's by Theresa Lynn Sidebotham, who we will have on next week's MinistryWatch EXTRA podcast. The producers for today's program are Rich Roszel and Jeff McIntosh. We get database, technical, and editorial support from Stephen DuBarry, Christina Darnell, Emily Kern, Rod Pitzer, and Casey Sudduth. Until next time, may God bless you.
Today, I want to start with a beautiful picture of Martha Stewart saying, “Do you know that unwelcome guest that everyone wisheswould leave already?” This idea of theunwelcome guest is something we arefamiliar with: we talk about who iswelcome and unwelcome in our culture orour lives: if they are hard to live with andhard to engage with, we wish they wouldleave. We deal with this internally, bothfrom having such a guest and fromBEING such a guest.Continue Reading hereSupport the showThe Village Church's sermon podcast is a weekly source of inspiration and guidance for the community. We are in a series called Radical Discipleship: every single topic in this series is prefigured by “Radical” because we are talking about things that are extreme, cutting to the root or base of a matter. What are the basics, the essence, of following Jesus and how can we do this in the most extreme way possible?Luke 9:23: “And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” This is pretty darn extreme and radical!Today, the topic is evangelism: I thought this topic was one of the most impactful things in my life and that I should share concerns about this topic. When we talk about church planting, we often discuss vision casting, mission, and context. But churches also need a good team to lead in the daily ministry. Pastors are tasked with building a cohesive team, resolving conflicts, and doing all they can to make sure everyone is focused and working toward the goal of making disciples of Jesus Christ. But if you've never led a church staff before, where do you begin? Who should you hire first? What should staff meetings look like? To help answer these questions, we're joined by Josh Patterson. Josh serves as a Lead Pastor of The Village Church in Flower Mound, TX. Josh received his Doctorate in Executive Leadership from Southern Seminary and is also a co-author of the book, “Creature of the Word.”

Ask this question: Is it worth it? (There is a Worth It TV show where they talk about items, tacos for example, at different price points and then they decide which one is truly worth it.) We need to ask “Is it really worth it to deny myself and take up my cross”? Is this worth it? We need to know what Jesus is offering because there is no reason to do this otherwise. If you read the NT, you could give a comprehensive statement of what is being offered. Even so, we still ask this question.John 8:1-12, The story of the adulterous woman. You can be radical for many reasons; radical means either getting down to the core of something or extreme. You can be a radical (extreme) fan of a football team. Discipleship means following Jesus and it can be extreme as Jesus said “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” Your agenda is submitted under Jesus's way. Also, you have to do this every day which is also extreme: the essence of following Jesus. Last week I asked, “What are youavoiding?” when we talked about radical courage. This week I have two questions to ponder:What are you waiting for?Whom are you waiting on?As parents we are always waiting: Every-day waiting can be in the doctors, at stoplights, for a spouse to get ready, for a kid to get out of the bathroom. But there are bigger things to wait for: a spouse, a job, money, depression to go away, an ailment to go away. Waiting can be daily and ordinary and it can also be big and dramatic.Continue Reading HERESupport the showThe Village Churchvillagersonline@gmail.comThe Village Church meets at 10a and 5p on Sundays1926 N Cloverland Ave, Tucson AZ 85712Mail: PO Box 30790, Tucson AZ 85751More information at www.villagersonline.com

Radical Courage is the first sermon in the Radical Discipleship series. Why radical? In planning for this series of sermons, there was one sermon called radical hospitality and one called radical evangelism and we figured out that everything is radical when you follow Jesus: in fact, Jesus said you have to deny yourself and take up your cross. We connect ourselves with crosses today but in the days of Jesus, the Roman empire kept people in line with crosses. People didn't talk about this. It's extreme and intense; likewise, it's these when we follow Jesus. Today we will talk about radical courage: most know what courage is: we want more than we have and we want to give each other more courage. I want to look at this more closely: my question to you today: what or who are you avoiding? Is that too deep of a question? Some avoid everything! We all avoid things…but how do we begin this analysis? This is a key way to begin this analysis; in fact, we should be asking this question all the time. The Future Is Now Podcast - Living With Passion & Purpose as a Christian Leader
Thank you for listening to "Matt Chandler Reinstated.. Is it Too Soon?" - Today we are talking about the recent update of the Village Church where Matt Chandler has been reinstated. We are listening to the statement given and talking through the accountability values we can recognize and apply in our own lives!____________________________
On today's program, Christian groups are being vandalized by pro-gay and pro-abortion activists. We'll have two stories that highlight this growing and troubling trend. And a new report from the Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability indicates that – despite uncertainties in the economy – giving to evangelical groups is up. We begin today with news that megachurch pastor Matt Chandler will be reinstated to the pulpit after a three-month leave of absence. Dallas-area megachurch pastor Matt Chandler returned to the pulpit Sunday (Dec. 4) after a leave of absence. The Village Church's board of elders reinstated him following disciplinary actions for Chandler's “inappropriate” social media relationship with a woman who is not his wife. The producers for today's program are Rich Roszel and Jeff McIntosh. We get database and other technical support from Stephen DuBarry, Emily Kern, Rod Pitzer, and Casey Sudduth. Writers who contributed to today's program include Bob Smietana, Steve Rabey, Kim Roberts, Shannon Cuthrell, Anne Stych, Rod Pitzer, Christina Darnell, Kathryn Post, and Jessica Eturralde. Until next time, may God bless you.
