In a world full of storms, uncertainty, and overwhelming moments, Jesus remains our unshakable guide—our True North. Drawing from Matthew 14:22–33, this message reminds us that we can trust Jesus when we wonder, when we feel alone, when we feel powerless, and when we need hope and help. Just like Peter, we may step out in faith and still feel like we’re sinking—but Jesus reaches out immediately. It’s not about the size of our faith—it’s about the power and presence of our Savior.

Jesus empowers us to overcome our fears and He strengthens our faith when we choose to follow Him, stepping out of the boat of our comfort zones and safety nets, and dare to trust Him to help us through the storms we face. If we just focus on our circumstances, it’s always going to lead to fear and frustration, worry and anxiety. But if we focus on Jesus, He will empower our faith with confidence and courage, and show us a way through.

Even when fear and doubt cause us to lose sight of Jesus during times of testing, He remains with us, offering rescue for those who call upon Him. Today’s passage reminds us that true faith is not the absence of fear but rather the choice to fix our eyes on Jesus and take a leap of faith. Through the disciples' experience on the Sea of Galilee, we learn that challenges are opportunities to experience the depth of Jesus' love and the transformative power of His grace. We often know the process of being close to Jesus and making that jump, but sometimes it’s the first step that’s the hardest. As followers of Jesus we long for the “walk on water” moment, but before we ever get there we have to take the first step out of the boat.

One of the most famous miracles of Jesus is found in Matthew 14, where He walks on water to his disciples. But did you know that it was in the middle of a storm to help his disciples? All of us have gone, are going, or will go through the storms of life, and God wants us to be firmly rooted in Him. If you have ever felt like your life was out of control, there is good news: a good God is in control of the storms in your life, and He offers a way through. Come check out Week 2 of Jesus' Greatest Hits as we talk about how to survive the storms of life by keeping our focus on Jesus.

We all have hope. But hope is not enough. Hope is a tool to get us to faith. We have to have hope in and for the right things. In our text, the disciples were in the boat rowing against strong winds. They were hoping to get out of the storm, but they had to live through their fear. When in a situation like this, we will put our faith and trust in something. It will either be in God, or it will be in the lies our minds tell us. Everybody is boing to believe something, and we have to make sure we are believing in the word of the Lord.
Jesus comes to the disciples during the fourth watch of the night as they strain against the wind and the waves. Peter asks in faith to come to Jesus on the water but, when Peter reaches Jesus he becomes fearful of the storm and begins to sink.
