Even when fear and doubt cause us to lose sight of Jesus during times of testing, He remains with us, offering rescue for those who call upon Him. Today’s passage reminds us that true faith is not the absence of fear but rather the choice to fix our eyes on Jesus and take a leap of faith. Through the disciples' experience on the Sea of Galilee, we learn that challenges are opportunities to experience the depth of Jesus' love and the transformative power of His grace. Practical Tips to Navigate Grief with Julieanne Williams In this episode, you'll hear: How Julieanne told her children what happened to their dad Key takeaways from her books: H.O.P.E. The importance of community How can you help someone who is grieving? What life after a loss can look like Julieanne Williams was born in a small farm town with a heart defect that required surgery at the age of 5. It complicated her childhood but also developed a resilience in her that she would need later on. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree in applied developmental psychology from Cal Poly SLO and a Master of Public Health from Fresno State. She has also written several books, including Griefquake, Head Above Water, and Unleash Her. At age 38, Julianne's husband took his life after battling bipolar disorder. This left her in a dire financial situation, navigating a turbulent custody battle with her in-laws, and learning how to be a single parent to young children grieving the loss of their father. Her mission is to use what she has learned to help others who are experiencing loss and trauma from the death, illness, or emotional severing of a spouse, child, or parent, as well as other life-altering grief-triggering events. In this episode, Mathew and Julieanne discuss the realities of having a loved one with bipolar disorder and losing a spouse to suicide, what she learned about grief along the way, and what she may have done differently looking back. Mathew talks about the recent loss of his mother and best friend, and Dr. Dave gives us some good information about what people going through grief need to recognize about themselves. Julieanne emphasizes the role of community, tells us how she worked hard to stay connected, and outlines how connection helps facilitate healing. She also notes the importance of normalizing the fact that grief hurts, it's unique, and it doesn't go away, but it does get better. “There is life after loss.” Follow the podcast: Listen on Apple Podcasts (link: https://apple.co/3s1YH7h) Listen on iHeart (link: https://ihr.fm/3MEY7FM) Listen on Spotify (Link: https://spoti.fi/3yMmQCE) Resources: JulianneWilliams.com Julianne on Instagram Dr. David Leicken, MD Connect with Mathew Blades: Twitter - twitter.com/MathewBlades Instagram - instagram.com/MathewBladesmedia/ Facebook - facebook.com/mathewbladesmedia/ Website - learnfrompeoplewholivedit.com/ Additional Credits: LFPWLI is managed by Sam Robertson

Does therapy work?Yes and no.Therapy is a “top-down” approach that can at best give you 30-40% relief. You will keep your head above water. But if you want to feel calm, confident, connected, and courageous - we need a three-pronged approach.I call this the Tripod Model, and in this episode, I will share with you what goes into each pillar of the tripod, so you can go from simply surviving, to truly thriving.P.S.: This is the first episode in a series on modern mental health. We had the pleasure of interviewing Ryan Cabrera over Zoom video!Pop icon Ryan Cabrera has dropped the serotonin-inducing new single "Prescription of You". The Platinum selling singer-songwriter channels some of the giants of the 80's scene on the new track, whilst delivering an anthem that dazzles with freshness and shimmers with pop-sensibility.Speaking on the track, Cabrera shares: “Prescription of You" is a fun, flirtatious take on the dance of desiring someone so much that you can't think about anything else! We felt an old-school Prince vibe with pops, hooks, and playful lyrics! It's a turn that lights off and get seductive type of vibe.”Since the release of debut single “On The Way Down”, Platinum selling singer-songwriter Ryan Cabrera has become synonymous with uplifting pop-rock, adorned with big hooks and soaring melodies.Major label debut, Take It All Away hit #8 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart and powered Cabrera into the hearts of American music fans with its relatable lyricism and honest delivery. Even with it's success at the time, few could have predicted the resonating impact Take It All Away would have on the US pop scene. The 2004 album would go on to be Certified Platinum and launch Cabrera to stardom.Cabrera's talent and dexterity continued to show with the release of 2015's “House on Fire”. The track hit #1 on the US Dance chart, with the multi-talented artist continuing to see his star rise on subsequent EP, Wake Up Beautiful. The new music was met with acclaim from fans and critics alike, with People Magazine dubbing “House on Fire” Cabrera's “catchiest hooks since “On The Way Down”".With collaboration and connection at the core of his ethos, Cabrera's writing credits extend beyond just his own tracks. In 2018, he penned Avril Lavigne's “Tell Me It's Over”, with the track featuring on the Canadian hitmaker's 2019 album Head Above Water.Returning to the studio re-energized in 2022, Cabrera began work on his latest material, ignited by lead single “Worth It”, a song he wrote for his now wife, WWE star Alexa Bliss. Last Christmas saw Cabrera team with O-Town's Erik-Michael Estrada for heart-warming festive hit “Spend It With You” and moving into fall '23 Cabrera has announced his signing to Manic Kat Records for the release of eagerly anticipated new single, “Prescription of You”.Cabrera has also announced his signing to Manic Kat Records. We want to hear from you! Bobbi has such a wonderful perspective on life and I think it really comes through during our conversation about her mother and her childhood. Leila, Bobbi's mom was loving and had her hands full with eight children. She had an orderly way of making sure everything got done and the kids all happy. She also took the time, morning and evening, to spend a few minutes with her husband. The family traveled together and spend lots of time enjoying their adventures by the sea. From Bobbi's Website "Fly Mom Fly": https://www.flymomfly.com/Author, Podcaster and Advocate for the Empty Nest Mom.Since becoming an Advanced Practitioner of Life Coaching and Practitioner of Neuro Linguistic Programming with The Coaching Institute in Melbourne, Australia in 2008, as well as a Reiki Practitioner in 1997, Bobbi has helped hundreds of women breakthrough challenging life transitions. She is the author of The Post Nest Plan, 10 Reasons You May Not Be Happy & 10 Remedies So You Can Be, 12 Steps to Self-Empowerment, creator of the Self Inventory for the Savvy Sisterhood workshop, has contributed in self-help features for Cleo & Cosmopolitan magazines in Australia, wrote the weekly Life Matters column for an Australian newspaper, and penned the viral quote "Your perception of me is a reflection of you; my reaction to you is an awareness of me." in June 2012She knows her purpose and it's this: "You matter in this world. Nikki Van Dijk was a major threat on the women's Championship Tour. Her best season on tour was in 2017 where she reached No. 7 on the Leaderboard after claiming her first CT victory at the Cascais Women's Pro in Portugal. Her style is smooth rail surfing shaped by her years of honing her approach on Phillip Island, a remote little enclave that's a day trip away from Melbourne, Australia. She inherited her passion and froth for surfing from her surf-crazed dad. In 2012, during her final year of school she raced off to Bali just before final exams to clinch the World Junior Championship and then later joined the Tour in 2014. After years spent with her main sponsor Rip Curl she left them to partner with WALLIEN Wetsuits as an Ambassador where she has gone on to co-create an exclusive collection of high-performance wetsuits with a focus on optimal comfort, style and environmental mindfulness. We were fortunate enough to meet Nikki while she is in NYC for the UN General Assembly NY Climate Week where she was on a panel with former guest of the Show Chris Nelson to discuss the film The Big Sea, the investigative documentary exposing the hidden links to cancer Alley in Louisana and the wetsuit worlds toxic addiction to neoprene. We had the pleasure of interviewing Laura Cox over Zoom video! The electric guitars and driving chorus will make the hearts of classic rock fans race. The discreet banjo provides the necessary southern flair and authentic sound. The visibility on the Internet was followed by significant acclaim from critics and rock fans, especially for the incredible album Burning Bright (2019), released internationally by earMUSIC in collaboration with the French label Verycords."So Long" lives on Cox's new album Head Above Water, which arrives on January 20th!The album contains 11 great rock songs bursting with energy and great personality. You know the feeling. It's like you can't keep your head above water. As soon as you make it through one crisis, the next wave crashes over you. This is increasingly "normal" in our world. Chronic stress, anxiety, fear, outrage, and hypervigilance: these words increasingly describe us. We all know that this is an awful way to live. We know that this is not the way of Jesus. But what are we supposed to do? Our problems feel like unconquerable giants. In Ephesians 3, the Apostle Paul prays that, in the same way the Israelites of old were empowered by God to take possession of the Promised Land, we might be empowered by God to take possession of the life that God has promised us.www.gvf.church
I read Shahd Alshammari's memoir, Head Above Water, a few months ago and was blown away from the first page! Shahd writes so beautifully, in a way that is poetic, raw and open. She gives us an insight into her life, living with Multiple Sclerosis. In this conversation, we talk about her diagnosis, how her illness has affected her life, what she wishes more people knew, and the field of academia. I hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoyed chatting to Shahd.Dr. Shahd Alshammari is a Kuwaiti-Palestinian author and academic. She is the author of Notes on the Flesh (Faraxa Press, 2017) and Head Above Water (Neem Tree Press, 2022). Alshammari teaches literature and has written numerous stories and creative nonfiction. Her research areas include illness narratives and disability studies.Buy 'Head Above Water' here:https://uk.bookshop.org/a/5890/9781911107408Support the show

This week we catch up with Nathan Dickerson and Bobby Paver of the scintillating indie rock band Motherfolk. The story of Motherfolk starts with stories of values and balance, then moves on in life broadening the horizons of the people who listen. Nate and Bobby have similar yet different stories to share with listeners. How do you book your first show? With a little white lie of course. With that little fib, Motherfolk was able to create a passionate following with their live performance. Throughout the touring life and sharing the stage with people, Nate learned a valuable lesson, “Not Everyone Gets Good.” Understanding that made them work harder and focus on what's important, the art!!! Join Bobby, Nathan and I as we try to keep our “Head Above Water” as the “Anchor” seeks to pull us down while the “Sunlight” fades.MOTHERFOLK - “the flower” OUT NOW!!!!!!!
