The cost of running this site, let alone all the channels of which to create our arts without much qualms, if any really, or monetary issuance has proven to be an insurmountable affair as is. But I refuse to buckle or bribe or barter with the great machine, and have taken the heavy toll and burden to internalize why financial independence isn't afforded from these ventures alone. That probably isn't healthy either, yet I persist. After wilderness years spent toiling and tinkering with ways to charge the current, it has become all-too apparent that the livestream's capabilities of creating wholly intentional transmissions and 'third spaces' of performance, sermon and vexation without appeasing rent-mad venues, other people's intentions or allowance of artificial intelligence slop could nominally be achieved through the art magick adherence to the liminalstream transmission. And what better to initiate a new experimental era of a wide-spectrum of dipsatches than under this excitingly rare fire stellium currently transiting? Due to my increasingly laborious schedule largely spent away from the Dimming Room, it became all too apparent that my way through with keeping consistent tithes to ongoing projects, lifting connected artists and We The Hallowed haunts, and growing the burgeoning patreon base to hopefully one day not need to suffer so much survival in this monolithic capitalist nightmare structure, allow the liminalstream a wonderful spectrum of highly intentional, heavily produced to topic based, low-tech dispatches from the sacred antenna of the PRAGMAGICK broadckast current. For no discernable reason I was run ragged with technical issues throughout the premiere that I still have no calcuable way to avoid in the future, nor way to discern much of why two separate computers used for streaming fell due to never-before-seen internal errors, let alone the spiritbox actually breaking right after I had recovered the stream and was ready to push on! Alas, so many lessons learned that stream, one of which is that trying a huge array of objectives within one stream is not only suboptimal tech wise, but performance and demeanor-wise as acting host, producer and performer is far too hectic oversee whilst allowing the artistic heteronym to control this vehicle performing musick, initiate meditative videomancy sessions and tap into the gibber-gabber needed to monologue to an audience concerning all the intentions therein! Not only were there obscure and completely unfounded tech issues on the digital plane, but in the physical my spirit box literally broke right before the ritual tells me that I was radiating an unseen reckless energy like statick discharge from ungrounded finger tips. You see, this is a long-storied issue with my performances, and another reason I'm attempting to get the sea legs of confident performance through these liminalstreams; I know I'm radiating, emanating, manifesting a nervous energy that is poisonous to electrical currents. Intuitively, I know it's me. If only I had performed the intended current cleanse at the top of the show and rested my gheiszt a bit before spelunking into a deluge of wild sessions within one stream! So through wincing and frustrated tears I soldiered on and concluded with a makeshift altar/Dimming Room Current Cleanse to ward off whatever bad ghost juju projected from my unwitting self (or, for safety sake, some banishing of outside dark dudes too) with a musical saw bowed through effects and guitar pedals. It's this sort of deep, revelatory moment that makes the liminalstream so worthwhile to me as practitioner, aside from the usual experimental fare and art hexorcism the transmissions can dutifully provide. The topic of a new course at Mansfield Senior High School is one that teenagers across the country are having trouble with: How to Get to Sleep. One ninth grader in the class says his method is to scroll through TikTok until he nods off. Another teen says she often falls asleep while on a late-night group chat with friends. Not everyone takes part in class discussions; some students are slumped over their desks napping. Sleep training is no longer just for newborns. Some schools are taking it upon themselves to teach teenagers how to get a good night's sleep. "It might sound odd to say that kids in high school have to learn the skills to sleep," says Mansfield health teacher Tony Davis, who has incorporated a newly released sleep curriculum into a state-required high school health class. "But you'd be shocked how many just don't know how to sleep." Adolescents burning the midnight oil is nothing new; teens are biologically programmed to stay up later as their circadian rhythms shift with puberty. But studies show teenagers are more sleep deprived than ever, and experts believe it could be playing a role in the youth mental health crisis and other problems plaguing schools, including behavioral and attendance issues. "Walk into any high school in America, and you will see kids asleep. Whether it's on a desk, outside on the ground or on a bench, or on a couch the school has allotted for naps—because they are exhausted," says Denise Pope, a senior lecturer at Stanford Graduate School of Education. Pope has surveyed high school students for more than a decade and leads parent sessions for schools around California on the importance of teen sleep. "Sleep is directly connected with mental health. There is not going to be anyone who argues with that." The district's high school is piloting the new curriculum, "Sleep to Be a Better You," hoping to improve academic success and reduce chronic absences, when a student misses more than 10% of the school year. My Hauntomancy within DIMtZUM is best exemplified by the communion of the Spectre of my youth—one doused in the desert heat and cradled within the fuzz gospel of bands such as The Melvins, Unwound, Fugazi—and one that I have always cherished, yet, never knew how to conjure those deep influences until this project arose. The Aspectre was also danced with, as I found myself white-eyed and ravenous to experiment with my own talismanic instruments in ways hitherto unknown, inspired by the cosmick rhythms of Frater Perseus somatickally performed in his own magickal artspace called The Mauve Room, and allowed me to tether his conjurations from my Dimming Room: A rather analog & somatick affair considering we were transcontinental in collaboration, but one that kept the dirty ghost within a baritone fuzz gospel based upon performance rather than post-production. Without disrespectfully constituting Frater Perseus' own utilization of Hauntomancy within this sigil, or discussing his own praxis without his explicit description, I will say a marked element of Hauntomancy I noticed with Perseus' construction of the DIMtZUM rhythms was that of letting go of long charged and utilized syncopations. He almost retired these long toiled with rhythms to haunt on within these DIMtZUM songs; an exorcism of what was through true communion. He has told me that a lot of these rhythms, although created long ago but never utilized, nor found an appropriate home, can now find their unfinished business somewhat fulfilled upon this DIMtZUM HauntSigil. A fantastic example of Hauntomancy at play as the praxis was both a reverent dirge to what was as well as an ecstatic road-opening to forthcoming, newfangled experimentations. Here is the full mastered 6 song album I created with Frater Perseus for the DIMtZUM project and a full visualizer! The album will be released via bandcamp and youtube at 6am on 8/4/24. We chose this release date and time due to celestial elections, and hope our navigation proves fruitful. The visualizer uses drone footage from Logan Ford that we shot at and around his property of DIRT HAWK RANCH, NM. I also added my analog tape glitch for fun effect.
