Houston • Lagos • Singapore • Wellington • Tokyo STABILITY • ASSURANCE • FAITH Christian prayer for uncertain times • trusting Jesus when life changes • prayer for stability and peace • finding confidence in God's faithfulness Hebrews 13:8 (NIV) “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” We live in a world that changes quickly. News headlines change. Circumstances change. Plans change. Relationships change. Sometimes life can feel as though it is constantly moving beneath our feet, making it difficult to find stability and confidence. Many people are carrying that feeling today. Uncertainty has a way of creating anxiety. When we do not know what tomorrow may bring, the mind naturally begins searching for something dependable to hold onto. We look for reassurance. We look for certainty. We look for something that remains steady when everything else feels unsettled. The writer of Hebrews gives us a remarkable truth. While circumstances may change and seasons may come and go, Jesus Christ remains the same. His love does not change. His promises do not change. His character does not change. The same Saviour who was faithful yesterday remains faithful today and will remain faithful tomorrow. This truth becomes an anchor for the soul. We do not place our confidence in changing circumstances. We place our confidence in an unchanging Christ. When uncertainty surrounds us, His faithfulness provides stability. When questions remain unanswered, His presence provides peace. Father, thank You that Your faithfulness is not affected by changing circumstances. Thank You that when life feels uncertain, You remain constant and trustworthy. Jesus, help me fix my eyes on You today rather than on my fears. Remind me that Your promises remain true and that Your love remains secure. Help me build my confidence on who You are rather than on what is happening around me. Holy Spirit, fill me with peace, wisdom, and assurance today. Help me trust God's character when I cannot see the whole picture. Strengthen my faith and remind me that Christ remains the same in every season of life. What does persistent faith look like when God's response seems difficult or delayed? In Episode 171 of the 2 Minute Disciple podcast, we meditate on Mark 7:24–30, one of the most challenging and profound encounters in the Gospels. A Gentile woman approaches Jesus, pleading for her daughter's healing, and receives an unexpected response. Yet instead of walking away discouraged, she responds with remarkable humility, courage, and unwavering faith. Her simple reply—“Even the dogs under the table are allowed to eat the scraps from the children's plates”—reveals a heart that trusts completely in the mercy of Christ. Jesus honors her faith, and her daughter is healed. This contemplative devotional explores the beauty of persistent prayer, humble faith, and trusting God's goodness even when His timing or His answers are difficult to understand. Through guided prayer, Scripture reflection, and a practical spiritual exercise, you'll be encouraged to bring your unanswered prayers back to Jesus with renewed confidence. Whether you're praying for healing, reconciliation, direction, or breakthrough, this episode reminds us that the mercy of Jesus is more than enough—and that faithful persistence is never wasted. In this episode: • Mark 7:24–30 devotional reflection • The faith of the Syrophoenician woman • Persistent prayer and humble trust • God's mercy for all people • Christian meditation and contemplative prayer • Trusting Jesus through delayed answers • Growing in resilient faith

Then there are days when simply getting through the next few hours feels like a challenge. Responsibilities continue to arrive. Pressures continue to build. Expectations continue to demand attention. Sometimes the heart becomes tired long before the day is finished. Many people are carrying that feeling right now. One of the great misconceptions about strength is that it means never feeling weak. Scripture paints a different picture. Time and again, we see God meeting ordinary people in moments of uncertainty, weariness, and limitation. Their strength was not found in pretending everything was fine. Their strength was found in trusting the God who remained faithful through every circumstance. When Paul wrote these words, he was not speaking from a life of comfort and ease. He was speaking from experience. He had faced challenges, disappointments, and uncertainty. Yet he discovered that Christ was able to provide strength that circumstances could not take away. Father, thank You that You know exactly what I am carrying today. Thank You that You see the pressures, responsibilities, and concerns that may not be visible to anyone else. Jesus, when I feel weak, remind me that Your strength is greater than my limitations. When I feel discouraged, help me remember that I do not walk alone. Strengthen my faith, steady my heart, and help me keep moving forward one step at a time. Holy Spirit, fill me with courage, wisdom, and endurance today. Help me rely on God's strength rather than my own. Give me confidence for what lies ahead and peace for the things I cannot control. Responsibilities continue to demand attention. News headlines compete for our focus. Unanswered questions sit in the background of our thoughts. The heart longs for peace, yet the mind often struggles to find it. Many people understand that experience. The world offers many temporary ways to escape pressure, yet Jesus offers something far deeper. He offers peace. Not the fragile peace that depends upon circumstances being perfect, but the lasting peace that comes from knowing that God remains present, faithful, and in control. It is a peace that can steady the heart even when life feels uncertain. When Jesus spoke these words to His disciples, He knew challenges were ahead. Yet He did not leave them with fear. He left them with peace. The same peace remains available today. It is not earned through striving. It is received through trusting Christ and resting in His presence. Father, thank You for Your faithfulness and for the gift of Your peace. Thank You that I do not have to carry every concern alone and that Your presence remains constant through every season of life. What do you do when following Jesus becomes difficult? In Episode 167 of the 2 Minute Disciple podcast, we meditate on John 6:66–71, one of the most sobering moments in Jesus' ministry. After hearing His hard teaching, many disciples turn away and stop following Him. Rather than chasing them or changing His message, Jesus turns to the Twelve and asks a piercing question: “Are you also going to leave?” Peter's answer remains one of the most powerful confessions of faith in Scripture: “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words that give eternal life.” This contemplative devotional explores what it means to remain with Jesus when faith is tested, understanding is incomplete, and the crowd is moving in another direction. Through guided prayer, reflection, and spiritual practice, you'll be invited to consider the reasons you continue to trust Christ and why there is nowhere else you would rather be. Whether you're walking through doubt, disappointment, confusion, or spiritual fatigue, this episode offers encouragement to stay close to the One who alone has the words of eternal life. In this episode: • John 6:66–71 devotional reflection • Peter's confession of faith • Following Jesus through difficult seasons • Persevering when others walk away • Christian meditation and contemplative prayer • Spiritual endurance and discipleship • Trusting Christ when understanding is incomplete

Others wake up already carrying concerns that never really left them during the night. Responsibilities, pressures, decisions, financial worries, family situations, and unanswered questions can all be waiting before the day has properly begun. Many people know exactly what that feels like. One of the dangers of modern life is that we become so accustomed to carrying heavy things that we stop noticing how tired we have become. We keep moving. We keep functioning. We keep pushing forward. Yet beneath the surface there can be a weariness that quietly grows heavier with each passing day. Jesus speaks directly into that reality. He does not tell weary people to simply try harder. He does not ask exhausted hearts to find more strength within themselves. Instead, He offers an invitation. He says, “Come to Me.” The answer to weariness is not greater striving. The answer is greater closeness to Christ. Father, thank You for the gift of a new day. Thank You that before I face a single challenge, Your presence is already with me and Your grace is already sufficient. Jesus, today I bring to You every burden that feels too heavy to carry alone. I place before You the concerns that occupy my thoughts and the responsibilities that seem overwhelming. Help me remember that I was never meant to carry everything by myself. Holy Spirit, fill my heart with peace as this day begins. Replace anxiety with trust, pressure with confidence, and weariness with renewed strength. What do you do when Jesus says something you don't understand? In Episode 166 of the 2 Minute Disciple podcast, we reflect on John 6:60–65, where even Jesus' disciples struggle to accept His teaching. Their response is honest: “This is very hard to understand. Who can accept it?” Rather than softening His message, Jesus points them toward a greater reality and reminds them that true understanding comes through the Holy Spirit. This contemplative devotional explores the tension between faith and understanding, the temptation to walk away from difficult teachings, and the invitation to remain with Jesus even when His words challenge us. Through guided prayer, Scripture meditation, and spiritual reflection, you'll be encouraged to trust God's Spirit when your mind cannot yet fully grasp what Christ is saying. Whether you're wrestling with doubt, confusion, or a difficult passage of Scripture, this episode offers a gentle reminder that faithfulness often begins by staying with Jesus through the hard things.

Many people carry responsibilities that nobody else fully understands. They continue showing up, caring for others, working hard, paying bills, supporting family, and doing their best to keep moving forward. Yet behind the smile and the routine, there can be a quiet exhaustion that is difficult to put into words. The world often teaches us to carry more, manage more, and become stronger through our own efforts. Jesus offers something remarkably different. He invites weary people to come to Him. He does not ask us to pretend that everything is fine. He does not require us to have all the answers. He simply invites us to bring our burdens into His presence. That invitation remains just as powerful today as it was when those words were first spoken. The heart of Christ is still drawn toward tired people, worried people, and people who feel stretched beyond their limits. His compassion has not changed. His kindness has not diminished. His willingness to carry what we cannot carry remains the same. Father, thank You that I never have to face life's pressures alone. Thank You that Your love welcomes me even when I feel tired, overwhelmed, or uncertain. Jesus, today I bring my burdens to You. The responsibilities of today can easily blend into the worries of tomorrow, and before long the mind is trying to solve problems that have not even arrived yet. It is in moments like these that the words of Jesus become especially precious. Christ does not simply offer advice for troubled hearts. He offers His peace. A peace that is deeper than circumstances, stronger than uncertainty, and steadier than our emotions. His peace reminds us that we do not have to carry tomorrow tonight. We are allowed to rest because God remains awake. We are allowed to sleep because the Lord continues to watch over His children with perfect love and unfailing care. Working for Food That Lasts Why are you really seeking Jesus? In Episode 161 of 2 Minute Disciple, we meditate on John 6:22–29, where the crowds search diligently for Jesus after He miraculously fed thousands with a few loaves and fish. At first glance, their pursuit seems admirable. They cross the lake looking for Him. They are determined, persistent, and eager to find Him. But Jesus sees deeper than their actions. He lovingly exposes what is driving them: they are following Him because He fed them, not because they understood who He truly was. The crowd wanted another meal. Jesus wanted to offer them something far greater. He redirects their attention from temporary needs to eternal realities, telling them not to spend their lives chasing food that perishes but to seek the food that endures to eternal life. When they ask what God requires of them, Jesus gives one of the most surprising answers in all of Scripture: “The work of God is this: to believe in the one He has sent.” Before service comes trust. Before obedience comes faith. Before doing comes believing. Jesus reminds us that Christianity is not primarily about performing for God. It begins with trusting Him. This passage invites us to examine our motives and ask whether we are seeking Jesus Himself—or merely the things we hope He will provide. In this episode, you'll discover: • Why Jesus challenged the motives of the crowd • The difference between seeking God's gifts and seeking God Himself • What Jesus means by “food that endures to eternal life” • Why belief is the foundation of the Christian life • A practical exercise for examining your spiritual hunger Scripture John 6:22–29 (NLT)
Send us Fan MailFear doesn't always show up as open persecution. Sometimes it's a quiet dread about tomorrow, the temptation to shrink your faith down to something “safe,” or the constant pressure to blend in. We're leaning into a story that refuses to let courage stay theoretical: St. Marcellinus and St. Peter, two believers who stood firm under Roman persecution and found strength in Jesus when the cost turned deadly. We trace who they were, what it meant to follow Christ during Emperor Diocletian's crackdown, and why the early church's suffering still speaks to modern Christian life. Along the way, we connect their witness to practical, Scripture-grounded courage, from Luke 9:23's call to take up the cross to John 16:33's promise that Jesus overcomes the world. If you've ever thought, “I could never be that brave,” their story meets you right there and points to daily surrender rather than heroic hype. One of the most arresting moments is the tradition that their peace and forgiveness helped change the heart of their executioner. We also talk about hidden faithfulness, the kind that happens in the shadows when no one is watching, and how God uses steady obedience to shine light in dark places. We share simple ways to keep your faith close through community, devotionals, and tangible reminders that can spark conversations and strengthen resolve. Those who would be disciples of Jesus must understand the cost to follow Jesus. Trusting Jesus for salvation is not simply a thought, feeling, or action, it is directing our entire lives toward the reality that Jesus is Lord over our lives. Because of that, we will have to pay the cost of comfort, family commitments, and safety. Those who want an easy, predictable, comfortable life should not follow Jesus, because following Jesus leads to storms. Also, Jesus will be with those who follow Him. He will not lead us somewhere He will leave us.
More broken than we know, more loved than we can comprehend. Welcome to the weekly sermon podcast of Grace Church Bellingham.
Episode 149 of 2 Minute Disciple Season 5 explores the sobering story of Jesus returning to His hometown in Mark 6:1–6. The people of Nazareth were amazed by His wisdom and miracles—until familiarity turned their amazement into offense. “Isn't this just the carpenter?” In this contemplative Christian podcast episode, Nick reflects on the danger of becoming so familiar with Jesus, church, Scripture, and spiritual language that we stop truly seeing Him. The people closest to Jesus struggled to receive Him because they thought they already knew Him. Their unbelief became a barrier to what He wanted to do among them. Through a peaceful rhythm of slowing down, reading Scripture, noticing, meditating, responding in prayer, and practicing a daily spiritual habit, listeners are encouraged to approach Jesus again with humility, openness, and wonder. This episode is for anyone feeling spiritually numb, disconnected, overly familiar with faith, or longing to encounter Jesus in a fresh way. It is a reminder that wonder keeps faith alive—and Jesus still desires to reveal Himself in the familiar places of our lives.
Episode 148 of 2 Minute Disciple Season 5 centers on Matthew 9:27–34 and the powerful encounters between Jesus, two blind men, and a mute man oppressed by a demon. As the blind men cry out, “Son of David, have mercy on us,” they reveal a spiritual insight that many religious leaders still lacked. Before healing them, Jesus asks a deeply personal question: “Do you believe I am able to do this?” Their answer becomes an invitation for all of us to examine the posture of our own hearts. This contemplative Christian podcast episode guides listeners through a gentle rhythm of slowing down, reading Scripture, noticing, meditating, responding in prayer, and practicing a simple spiritual habit. Together, we reflect on faith that trusts in who Jesus is, the mercy He offers, and the different ways people respond to His work. This episode is for anyone seeking clarity, healing, renewed faith, or courage to bring honest prayers before Jesus. It is a reminder that Christ still opens blind eyes, restores broken voices, and meets us with mercy.
Episode 147 of 2 Minute Disciple Season 5 explores the deeply moving story of Jairus' daughter in Mark 5:35–43. Just as Jairus receives the worst news imaginable — “Your daughter is dead” — Jesus speaks five life-giving words: “Don't be afraid. Just have faith.” This contemplative Christian podcast episode invites listeners into a quiet place of trust, especially in moments when it feels like God has arrived too late. Through a gentle rhythm of slowing down, reading Scripture, noticing, meditating, responding in prayer, and practicing a daily spiritual habit, we reflect on the faith of Jairus and the authority of Jesus over death, despair, and hopelessness. Jesus walked into a house full of mourning, took a little girl's hand, and called her back to life. And in the same way, He still meets us in places where hope feels buried and reminds us that He is never too late. This episode is for anyone carrying disappointment, grief, delayed prayers, fear, or the ache of waiting on God. It is a reminder that even when circumstances seem final, Jesus is still at work.
What do you do when the storms of life hit? Our instinct is to hunker down, strain at the oars, and just try to survive. But what if the storm isn't just an obstacle — what if it's an invitation?Guest speaker Jeff Stemple walks us through one of the most familiar stories in Scripture: Jesus walking on water. And while the story is familiar, the truth buried inside it is anything but comfortable. By looking at the accounts in Mark, John, and Matthew side by side, Jeff unpacks why Matthew is the only gospel writer who includes Peter's attempt to step out of the boat — and why that "screw up" might be the most encouraging part of the whole story. The storms of life are invitations to step out in faith.Fear says stay put. Faith says step out. And what Jesus says to Peter in the middle of that storm, he says to all of us — come. The very place we least want to go may be the exact place Jesus is already standing, waiting for us to trust him.Whether your storm started last week or last year, this episode is for you.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 8:00am, 9:30am & 11:00am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

Adopted, 3 of 3 from May 24, 2026“Trusting Jesus makes us truly God's kids but earning approval is slavery.” Galatians 4:1-14 by Michael Lockstampfor (@miklocks)SUMMARYThis sermon teaches that believers are fully adopted into God's family solely through trusting Jesus. Pastor Michael emphasizes that the indwelling Holy Spirit is our “certificate of adoption,” growing supernatural love in us, freeing us from slavery to performance and people-pleasing, and inviting us not only to serve others but also to humbly receive love and care from them.REFLECTION & DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
Have you ever felt like God's work was moving too slowly? You pray, wait, serve, try to grow, and still wonder why things are not changing faster. In Matthew 11:1-11, John the Baptist is in prison, asking one of the most honest questions in Scripture: “Are you the one who is to come, or should we expect someone else?”This message, “When God's Work Feels Slow,” reminds us that slow does not mean absent, hidden does not mean inactive, and unfinished does not mean unseen.Jesus may not always give us the explanation we want, but He gives us enough evidence to keep trusting Him.Formation Challenge:Name the slow place.Notice one kingdom sign.Take one faithful step.#WhenGodFeelsSlow#TrustJesus#Matthew11#ChristianSermon#FaithInTheWaiting#GodIsStillWorking#JesusChrist#ChurchOfChrist#SeniorSunday#ChristianEncouragement#BibleTeaching#SermonClip#FaithOverFear#SpiritualGrowth#KingdomOfGod
In this thought-provoking episode, we explore Christianity vs morality against the backdrop of the current political climate in United Kingdom following the recent local elections, while also examining the growing political and cultural divisions happening around the world. As political identities become stronger and public discourse becomes increasingly polarised, we ask an important question: are people searching for salvation, identity, and hope in political parties and human leaders instead of in Christ? This episode dives deep into the human tendency to look for a “messiah” in politics, ideologies, governments, and public figures while neglecting the true Messiah, Jesus Christ. We discuss how easy it can become for Christians to place their ultimate trust in political systems, parties, or movements rather than in God. In a culture where political opinions often shape identity, relationships, and even morality, we examine what it truly means to find our identity in Christ instead of in our political beliefs. What happens when political loyalty becomes more important than love, humility, grace, and truth? How should Christians respond to people who think differently from them politically, socially, or morally? Can believers stand firmly in biblical truth while still treating others with compassion, dignity, and respect?Looking to the example of Jesus, we explore how He interacted with people from every background — including those rejected, judged, politically unpopular, or morally broken. From the Samaritan woman at the well to tax collectors and sinners, Jesus consistently treated people with dignity, compassion, and love while still calling them toward truth and repentance. He saw beyond labels, tribes, and divisions and focused on the condition of the human heart and the eternal destiny of souls. This episode challenges Christians to reflect on whether they are representing Christ well in today's divided culture. Are we loving people the way Jesus did, or are we allowing political outrage and cultural battles to shape our attitudes more than the Gospel? We discuss the dangers of self-righteousness, tribalism, online hostility, and reducing people to political categories instead of seeing them as individuals made in the image of God.We also explore the difference between morality and true Christianity. Is being “moral” enough without Christ? Can political activism replace spiritual transformation? Why does the Gospel go deeper than external behaviour and address the condition of the heart?Whether you are navigating political conversations, wrestling with cultural issues, or seeking to follow Jesus faithfully in a divided world, this episode offers biblical perspective, spiritual encouragement, and a reminder that our hope is not found in governments, parties, or earthly leaders — but in Christ alone. In this episode, we discuss:* Christianity vs morality* Faith and politics in modern culture* The political climate in Britain after the local elections* Identity in Christ vs political identity* Trusting Jesus instead of political leaders* How Christians should treat people with different views* Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well* Jesus' interactions with tax collectors and sinners* Compassion, truth, and grace in difficult conversations* The dangers of tribalism and political division* Biblical perspectives on culture and society* Following Christ in a polarised worldPerfect for listeners interested in Christian podcasts, Bible teaching, faith and culture, Christianity and politics, spiritual growth, biblical truth, discipleship, and Christian living in today's world.#ChristianPodcast #FaithAndPolitics #Christianity #JesusChrist #BibleStudy #SpiritualGrowth #ChristianLiving #Faith #Culture #Politics #BiblicalTruth #Gospel #Discipleship #Church #UnitedKingdom

Struggling with anxiety as a Christian can feel confusing—especially when verses like John 14:1 tell us not to let our hearts be troubled. But Jesus’ response to anxiety isn’t harsh correction—it’s compassionate invitation. In moments of fear and overwhelm, He offers peace, not pressure. His words weren’t spoken to shame anxious hearts but to comfort them, reminding us that trust in Him is the pathway to lasting peace. True peace isn’t something we manufacture through perfect prayers or flawless faith—it’s something we receive from Jesus. Biblical peace goes deeper than calm emotions; it’s a sense of wholeness and security rooted in His presence. As we consistently turn to Him—through prayer, Scripture, and honest surrender—He begins to reshape our thoughts and quiet our fears. It may not happen instantly, but over time, His peace grows stronger than our anxiety. Highlights Jesus responds to anxiety with compassion, not condemnation “Do not be troubled” is an invitation to trust, not a harsh command Peace comes from Christ—not from striving or self-effort Anxiety often persists when we expect instant healing Spiritual practices help us receive the peace we already have in Christ Honest prayer invites God to reveal what may be hindering our peace Trusting Jesus more deeply leads to greater, lasting peace Do you want to listen ad-free? You believe in God; believe also in me.” - John 14:1 NIV As someone with a long history of anxiety, I used to feel guilt and condemnation when I read today’s verse and others like it. I knew Scripture told me, in numerous places, not to fear. I understood the importance of “taking my thoughts captive. I also recognized that I’d remain stuck in my overwhelm and whatever habitual battle I faced unless I allowed the Lord to transform me as I intentionally renewed my mind with God’s unchanging truth. Yet, I consistently found myself enslaved to my spinning anxious thoughts that felt far too strong to counter or correct. My problem was two-fold. First, I expected instant healing and freedom. I thought if I said the right prayers, memorized enough Scripture, and chose to yield my circumstances to Christ, bam! He’d instantly erase all the lies and doubts fueling my fears and flood my brain and soul with His promises—which, of course, would stick, indefinitely. Second, I misread Jesus’ invitation to trust as a harsh command that brought Him frustration when not lived out. But our Savior is gentle and humble in heart and longs to provide rest, not guilt and shame, to our souls (Matthew 11:28). When I read John 14 through that lens, I see Christ’s words as tender reassurance spoken from a place of compassionate awareness that fearful times lie ahead. The context of today’s verse supports this. If you’re familiar with the events surrounding Christ’s crucifixion, you might recognize the circumstances surrounding His words. On the night before His death, He gathered His disciples in an upper room to celebrate the Passover. During this sacred meal, He predicted several unsettling things: He’d soon leave, and they couldn’t come. One of them would betray Him, they’d all abandon Him in His most painful moment, and Peter would deny three times that he even knew Him. But notice how Jesus bookended this difficult information. He began the chapter with today’s verse, telling them not to let their hearts be troubled but instead to trust in Him. Then, in verse 27, He repeated this with additional details when He said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” Intersecting Life & Faith: Peace. Biblically speaking, this word, eiréné in the original Greek, goes deeper than emotional tranquility. It signifies wholeness, well-being, and things as they should be. And notice, this soul-state comes from Him, not our frantic efforts to change or heal ourselves. Yes, we must do our part by consistently turning to Him through prayer, Bible reading, silent meditation, and practicing other spiritual disciplines. Scripture also encourages us to learn how to rely on and yield to the Holy Spirit more consistently and to do our best to obey, however He leads. Sometimes, this requires prayerfully considering ways we might be actively blocking or hindering our ability to receive Christ’s peace. Notice the phrasing in Colossians 3:15: Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful (NIV, emphasis mine). This seems to indicate that we already possess His peace but haven’t given it full reign for some reason. Perhaps we’re held captive to an addiction that leads to regretful behavior and damaged relationships, and the inner angst both scenarios create. Or, maybe we’re spending far more time reading fear-mongering clickbait articles than we are truth. Or we might feel reluctant to take medication that our brain needs to function optimally. Most, if not all, of us also tend to experience some degree of self-deception. Because of this, I’ve found it helpful to pray Psalm 139:23-24, which reads: Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting (NIV). The New American Standard Bible phrases the last line in this passage this way: … see if there is any hurtful way in me, And lead me in the everlasting way. Understand, I don’t pray this from a place of guilt or shame. Rather, I’m asking the One who knows me better than I know myself and sees the most hidden places in my soul to reveal those things within me that hinder my freedom. This is a request He loves to answer because it positions me for the deep transformation I need to experience the “beyond-expectations” thriving life He promised in John 10:10. Because only the Prince of Peace holds the power to calm and strengthen my wounded and fearful soul. He longs to do the same for you. The more you connect with, listen to, learn from, and follow Him, the easier it becomes to “believe in Him,” as today’s verse invites you to do. And the more we believe in Him—trusting His power, promises, and heart—the greater our peace. When life feels like it's falling apart, where is God?In this message, “Faith in the Storm: Trusting the One in the Boat,” we walk through Gospel of Mark 4:35–41 and discover what it means to trust Jesus when the waves are crashing and fear is rising. The disciples found themselves in a violent storm—not because they disobeyed Jesus, but because they followed Him. That changes everything. In this sermon, you'll learn:Why obedience to Christ doesn't mean a storm-free lifeHow God uses storms to grow your faithWhat it means when Jesus seems silentHow fear distorts our view of GodThe authority of Jesus over every storm in your lifeWhy the real battle is faith, not circumstancesEven seasoned fishermen were overwhelmed—but Jesus was asleep in the boat. And with just a word, He calmed the storm.“Peace! Be still!” — Mark 4:39 (ESV)If Jesus is in your boat, it may take on water—but it will not sink. The world holds a tight grip on us—pulling us to chase status, security, and self. But Jesus flips it all. Opening Remarks and Introduction The Holy Spirit is moving and filling those present. Many attendees shared testimonies. Expressing gratitude for the morning’s events. Reference to Matthew 8:23-27, the story of Jesus calming the storm. Invitation to be saved, emphasizing the Holy Spirit’s presence and potential impact. Going to the Other Side Jesus told the disciples, “let us go to the other side.” God is working in ways we may not understand. Personal testimony of faith since 1976, trusting in God’s promises. Jesus was going to the other side to free a man possessed by many devils. Everything the Lord does is on purpose. The Lord showed up with a purpose. Entering the Ship The story in Matthew is a real event with spiritual significance. The Word of God will help, even if it’s bitter at first. Personal testimony about when Christ entered Pastor Tommy’s life. Giving up ownership and control to Jesus as captain. Jesus found Pastor Tommy when he was destitute and lost. Encouragement that nothing can repel the King of Glory from loving you. The Lamb of God wants to come aboard, regardless of the state of the “ship.” The Lordship of Christ To have Christ in your ship, you must give Him the right to run it. He is Lord and Master, not just a friend or co-pilot. Trusting God even when His plans are unclear. Reminder that He is in control and will bring you to the other side. The Tempest Having Jesus in your boat doesn’t mean you won’t face rough waters. The boat may rock and fill with water, but it will float if Jesus is in it. Personal anecdote about forgetting to put the plug in a boat. Feeling in jeopardy and not knowing which way to turn. Assurance that if He’s in the ship, it will keep floating. Don’t let the storm surprise you. There will be winds and news that you can’t control. There is only one that can save you. If he’s in the boat, you’re saved. The Storms of Life There will be times of sweetness and ease, but also times of hardship. God allows winds to rock the boat to keep us awake and ready for His return. Hard times and experiences are a part of the journey. Assurance that He will stay in the boat with you, and it won’t go down. Jesus Asleep There are times when we wonder if He is asleep or has left the boat. Good news: He sleeps no more since the resurrection. He is always awake and able to calm the storm. Reference to Elijah teasing the prophets of Baal, whose god was asleep. In despair, we may think He doesn’t care. One of the disciples asked, “Master, do you not care that we perish?” At some point, we realize we need the Master’s help. Reference to the song “Somebody Woke Up the Master.” Access to the throne of grace to obtain mercy and find grace. Call on the Master Personal testimony of calling on the Master in times of trouble. The boat was riddled, but it stayed afloat. The course is set, and it will make it to the other side. Even in dark places, He is there and sees everything. Reference to John’s message that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. Asking for Help Spiritually, waking up the Master is equivalent to asking for assistance. We have not because we ask not. It’s better to call on Him when your ankles are wet than when your knees are. Eventually, you may have to bow and admit you need help. The disciples woke Him up, explaining their situation in a few words. “Lord, save us, we perish.” Why Are You Fearful? Jesus’ first response was, “Why are you so fearful?” He then answered their question, pointing to their lack of faith. Our problem is not letting Him and the miracles of God be greater than our circumstances. We give more credit to what we see and taste than to the God of glory. He has never lied, and His promises never fail. “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” “Those that believe in him will never perish.” Peace, Be Still Jesus stepped up and said, “Peace, be still.” Both the wind and the waves obeyed Him, and there was a great calm. What is a greater miracle: calming the storm or keeping a full boat afloat? Reference to the story of the man with palsy being lowered through the ceiling. Jesus forgave his sins and then healed him, demonstrating His power. Often, we don’t recognize the miracles occurring during our storms. Even if the boat is full, you are going to the other side. He is in the Ship Jesus was asleep because He knew they were going to make it. Some expect a calm, but God helps even when it’s not calm. The best part is that even when you think you’re sinking, you’re still floating. You’re not going down because He is in the ship. If He’s not in your ship, you’re going down. As a pastor, Pastor Tommy can assure you that you’re not going down if Jesus is in the ship. All Things Work Together for Good Romans 8:28: “All things work together for good to them that love God.” If God is for us, who can be against us? It wasn’t the calm that got them to the other side, but the word of Jesus. The circumstances were irrelevant. The promise of God will sustain you in spite of your faith. It wasn’t their faith that would have drowned them, but their fear. Whether it’s calm or the boat is full, His word doesn’t change. You will go to the other side just like He promised. Closing Remarks There are days when faith won’t cut it, but we’re still here because He’s in the boat. Learning to like the storms because that’s when the greater miracles occur. The question is not if you’re going to make it, but if He’s in your boat. If He’s not in your boat, you have a real problem: you’re without remedy, savior, or hope. You must be born again for the promises to take place. Invitation to let Him in.
In Gospel of Mark chapter 11, we encounter a King who refuses to fit our expectations. As Jesus rides into Jerusalem to shouts of “Hosanna,” the crowd waves palms and projects their hopes of political victory onto Him. But this is no campaign rally—this is a confrontation. From the fig tree with leaves but no fruit, to the temple full of activity but empty of prayer, Jesus exposes a surface-level faith that looks alive from a distance yet withers up close. The message is clear: religion without repentance is nothing but leaves. Trusting Jesus isn't meant to fit neatly into our routines, playlists, or Sunday schedules—it's meant to overturn tables in our hearts and transform us from the inside out. In this powerful teaching, we're reminded that what isn't rooted in Christ will ultimately wither away. Jesus invites us beyond performative faith into a life marked by real fruit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Prayer isn't about bending God to our will; it's about aligning our hearts with His. Mountains move not because we name and claim, but because we trust and surrender. The question before us is simple but searching: are we asking Jesus to fit our lives, or are we surrendering to let Him change them? May our faith be more than leaves. May it bear fruit that lasts.
WHAT GOD'S TIMING REVEALS: He's not operating on our watch. Both God's timing and will is sovereign and good: our inability to comprehend God's reason is not proof that no reason exists. WHAT GOD ASKS FOR IS TRUST: Often in ways we do not understand. Trusting Jesus is the pathway into the rest that we […]
