This week Joe talks with Shaun Fleming-aka Diane Coffee. Shaun is a singer, song writer and multi-instrumentalist based in Southern California. His 4th record, With People (out now on Polyvinyl Records) is a personal reach into the past and a closer, sometimes darker look at the people and experiences that have made him who he is now. In this episode, Shaun shares what motivated him to look back, why he sometimes masks painful memories with uplifting melody, and why this record felt more therapeutic than his previous efforts. Joe and Shaun discuss the process of making With People with his former bandmate Jonathan Rado (Foxygen) and long time collaborator Joe Lefitz and how the power of their shorthand was a key ingredient in the production. We also learn that there just might be a vaccine for Demoitis and we hear a couple tunes. http://www.dianecoffee.com/https://www.polyvinylrecords.com/artist/diane_coffeeTour Stories is sponsored by Izotope. There are birds chirping. Shaun Fleming is making the most out of this beautiful spring day in Los Angeles, taking the call from the front porch. We get into a little lore about some parrots that have colonized Pasadena. Things get personal quickly, as they tend to with these conversations. And while he's quick to note that his latest record, With People, arrives under the Diane Coffee monitor, it's still a personal one. The name, after all, has been a fluid one. It's sometimes a band, sometimes a person. Sometimes him, sometimes not. Male, female. Often in-between. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
On today's episode, I talk to musician Shaun Fleming. Originally from Agoura Hills, CA, Shaun started out their creative life as a child voice actor on shows like Fillmore!, Kim Possible and Lilo & Stitch. As a musician though, they first started playing professionally as the touring drummer for the indie rock band Foxygen. Soon after, Shaun formed Diane Coffee as an outlet for their own music, and since then have recorded five albums and EPs, the latest of which, With People, was just released on Polyvinyl! This is the website for Beginnings, subscribe on Apple Podcasts, follow me on Twitter.
At its best, music offers us a chance at time travel, transporting us back to moments in our past. That happens over and over again on With People, the latest album from Shaun Fleming's Diane Coffee project. Produced by Jonathan Rado of Foxygen, it blends '70s style folk-rock with orchestral pop flourishes and focuses in on their youth in Agoura Hills, California. Fleming joins Clairaudience host Ersa Lowly tonight to discuss the album, the nostalgic power of Pink Floyd, and of course, discuss a visit with Harry Nilsson. With People is released April 29 and is available now for preorder from Polyvinyl Records.

Collector's Edition digs into the vaults this week and uncovers a high-energy interview between KDHX host, Chris Sanley, and Shaun Fleming of the band, Diane Coffee. The exchange was originally recorded in January of this year, but it provides some much-needed color as we roll into fall. The band performs three songs: "Mayflower," "As You," and "Get By." Recorded January 20, 2018 at KDHX in St. Louis, Missouri. Engineered by Jon Valley, KE Luther and Andy Coco.
In this episode Taber talks with Shaun Fleming, the creator and frontman for the band Diane Coffee and the former drummer of Foxygen. They got together before the show in Bloomington, IN, where Shaun now lives. They discuss life in Bloomington and growing up in southern California. Other topics include Shaun's acting career (both voice and "real body"), the Diane Coffee live show, Shaun's musical process and more.
Diane Coffee is in the house, literally. Recorded at Camp Elsinore, Alex and Dan interview Shaun Fleming and Matt Romy who paid a visit to Los Angeles to play the Music Tastes Good Festival in Long Beach. What took place was a very loose conversation over a few bottles of wine. Shaun and Matt reveal their lack of pop culture knowledge, Alex learns more about Osgood-Schlatter disease and everyone debates whether smoking DMT is the same as buying a six pack before you're 21. As an added bonus, Shaun shares a vivid story about his first time smoking pot. Follow Shaun and Matt on Instagram @shaunfleming @mrbuddh4 Find all things Diane Coffee at dianecoffee.com
