In this episode, we're joined by Dr. Theresa Callaghan, skincare scientist of 35 years and author of Help! I'm Covered in Adjectives: Cosmetic Claims & The Consumer. With wit, science, and decades of industry experience, Dr. Callaghan helps us unpack the seductive language of the beauty industry—revealing how terms like “clinically proven” and “anti-aging” are often more about persuasion than proof. From scientific credibility to regulatory blind spots, this conversation is a must-listen for anyone who buys (or sells) cosmetics, including men.

After talking last week about his government's achievements in the social sphere, this episode looks at the difficulties Wilson faced in economics and foreign affairs. One way Wilson explored to address economic problems was to make a second application for Britain's entry to the Common market, then called the European Economic Community and now the European Union. However, like Macmillan before him, he ran into the immovable obstacle of de Gaulle, despite believing like Trump that he could overcome opposition by personal conversation with political leaders. He had the same disappointment in personal negotiations twice more. Once waswith the Rhodesian Prime Minister, Ian Smith, the second in his offer to mediate over the Vietnam War between US President Johnson and the Soviet Premier Kosygin. He did have some success, though it attracted him more ridicule than admiration, in the military intervention he authorised on the tiny Caribbean island of Anguilla and which came to be mocked as ‘the Bay of Piglets'.On the domestic front he'd long balanced the leadership ambitions of Jim Callaghan against those of George Brown. After Brown's departure, he did the same with Callaghan and Roy Jenkins. His hold on office came under threat as his public credibility sank. The threat intensified following the controversy over the proposals to control union activity through the courts, outlined in the paper ‘In Place of Strife'. Surprisingly advanced by a leftwinger, Barbara Castle, and backed by Wilson, it seemed to fly in the face of the rationale of Labour's very existence, founded as it had been to defend the unions.Eventually the proposals were dropped. Then with better economic news Labour began to climb in the polls. Encouraged, Wilson called a general election in June 1970. But it turned out that any optimism generated by the opinion pollsters was illusory.Ted Heath's Conservatives won the election and formed a new government.Incidentally, the German translation of the podcast has now moved past the Tudors and is now dealing with the Stuarts. The in camera rule means that people taking part in family law proceedings cannot be identified. It’s to protect the privacy of families, particularly important when there are children involved. However, there have been complaints that the current implementation of the rule means that it has sometimes eroded transparency in how the legal system works. Jerry spoke to Dr Aisling Parkes who’s a senior lecturer in law at UCC. She’s the co-author of the report, Review of the Operation of the In Camera Rule in Family Law Proceedings. Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan says there will be reform.

Under BJ Callaghan, Nashville SC has had 6 goals come from defenders. What is it with Callaghan's system that has unlocked this secret cheat road in goal production from his back line? Later in the conversation, Nick and Claudio discussed the midfield pairings and how Eddi Tagseth and Patrick Yazbek's pairing is the top option for Nashville. Can Nashville continue its strong form in Atlanta this weekend? How did Jacob Shaffelburg look in his first start of the season? It was also mentioned how, under the BJ Callaghan system, he has revitalized the way some Nashville SC players play in comparison to last season. Let's not forget Sam Surridge's historical performance in gold as he netted four goals, making him the 19th player in MLS history to accomplish this achievement. The guys wrapped up the episode, giving their score predictions and goal scorers for the weekend match.

5 brothers are celebrating 50 years of trad music! Like many Clare musicians, the Grogans come from a musical background. Their grandfather Michael Grogan R.I.P. played the concertina, while their late grandfather Pat O' Loughlin from O' Callaghan's Mills was a traditional singer. They began their musical career under the guidance of All-Ireland traditional violinist Vincent Griffin from Feakle. The five brothers have their own Céilí band and have played at numerous venues around the country. The Grogan brothers joined Peter O'Connell in-studio. Photo(C): ClareFM

It should be labeled a "derby" by all definitions. The distance between the Music City and Queen City remains quite drivable. However, the average FC Cincinnati fan and average Nashville SC fan probably wouldn't admit that the other is a rival. There's still no solid point of contention between both squads. The trend in both squads to start the season may indicate a much closer rivalry in 2025. While the Orange & Blue have started lukewarm, the "Boys in Gold" to the south are on a hot streak. Before Saturday's matchup, we talk with Tim from the Club & Country podcast to see just how well new head coach B.J. Callaghan is cooking with his retooled roster.
