Honorary fourth host Jessica St. Clair returns to help Jason and Paul cover the 1989 Lou Ferrigno vehicle Sinbad of the Seven Seas—a movie that lies about being based on an Edgar Allan Poe story. LIVE from Boise, the gang discuss all the wild ADR, if Disney's Aladdin ripped off this movie, Italian talking snakes, how Sinbad inflated a hot air balloon simply by blowing into it, and so much more. Plus, Jessica reveals how the film reignited a primal sexual awakening and gives her theory on the best way to kill a zombie. Our movie picking producer Avaryl is fighting brain cancer and needs some words of support—messages, fan art, anything—to lift her spirits up. In this episode of On the Road with Paul Ward, Paul visits the charming Cornell Wine Company and chats with local musician and event coordinator, Sierra Drummond. Sierra shares how she got her start organizing music nights at the venue, including open mic nights and featured artist events that spotlight both undiscovered local talent and internationally known musicians like Elliot Lurie, the songwriter of Brandy (You're a Fine Girl). With a rich musical heritage—her parents are both in the band Ambrosia—Sierra began performing at just four years old and has developed into a passionate performer and songwriter. She opens up about her own songs, “Look Out For Me” and “Slow Morning,” and the creative process behind her music. Sierra also reflects on her love of the stage, the evolution of her sound, and how music connects people, whether through live shows or her involvement in community outreach efforts like clothing drives following recent fires. The conversation dives deeper into Sierra's musical family, including her mom's background vocals for Jimmy Buffett and studio work with Pink Floyd, and her own experiences in the family's band, The Tin Drum Family Band. Sierra discusses her favorite genres, instruments, and how digital media compares to the energy of live music. She also touches on the resurgence of Yacht Rock and its influence on her father's career, upcoming events at Cornell Wine Company, and her role as a music teacher during the week. From her humble beginnings at Cornell to her multifaceted role as performer, teacher, and event planner, Sierra's story is one of passion, community, and the power of music. The band's current lineup consists of vocalist/rhythm guitarist/keyboardist Mike Shinoda, lead guitarist Brad Delson, DJ/turntablist Joe Hahn, bassist Dave Farrell, co-lead vocalist Emily Armstrong, and drummer Colin Brittain. The lineup for the band's first seven studio albums included lead vocalist Chester Bennington and drummer Rob Bourdon; following Bennington's suicide in July 2017, the band entered an indefinite hiatus. In September 2024, Linkin Park's reformation was announced along with the addition of Armstrong and Brittain.Categorized mainly as alternative rock and nu metal, Linkin Park's earlier music spanned a fusion of heavy metal and hip hop, while their later music features more electronica and pop elements. Linkin Park rose to international fame with their debut studio album, Hybrid Theory (2000), which became certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Released during the peak of the nu metal scene, the album's singles' heavy airplay on MTV led to the singles "One Step Closer", "Crawling", and "In the End" all charting highly on the US Mainstream Rock chart. The lattermost also crossed over to the number two spot on the nation's Billboard Hot 100. Their second album, Meteora (2003), continued the band's success. The band explored experimental sounds on their third album, Minutes to Midnight (2007). By the end of the decade, Linkin Park was among the most successful and popular rock acts. The band continued to explore a wider variation of musical types on their fourth album, A Thousand Suns (2010), layering their music with more electronic sounds. The band's fifth album, Living Things (2012), combined musical elements from all of their previous records. Their sixth album, The Hunting Party (2014), returned to a heavier rock sound, while their seventh album, One More Light (2017), was a substantially more pop-oriented record. Linkin Park is among both the best-selling bands of the 21st century and the world's best-selling music artists, having sold over 100 million records worldwide. They have won two Grammy Awards, six American Music Awards, two Billboard Music Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, 10 MTV Europe Music Awards, and three World Music Awards. In 2003, MTV2 named Linkin Park the sixth-greatest band of the music video era and the third-best of the new millennium. Billboard ranked Linkin Park No. 19 on the Best Artists of the Decade list. In 2012, the band was voted as the greatest artist of the 2000s in a Bracket Madness poll on VH1. In 2014, the band was declared as "The Biggest Rock Band in the World Right Now" by Kerrang!.This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 01:25 UTC on Saturday, 7 September 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Linkin Park on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm neural Emma.

In this episode of Vital Psychedelic Conversations, Kyle interviews two Vital graduates: Alice Dommert: certified breathwork facilitator and co-founder of retreat company, The Infinite Center; and Kara Tremain, ACC: somatic practitioner and growth and development coach. A huge part of Vital is the experiential aspect of attending a retreat. Students report that being part of a group process, feeling the power of the proper set and setting, taking a journey as both a sitter and experiencer, and separating from the world and connecting with each other has been one of the best parts of the program – even life-changing. With Dommert behind 13 Vital retreats to date, she and Kyle dive into what they've learned in how to run a successful retreat. They discuss: Facilitator humility and how important it is for everyone to be on the same page How much additional activities can add to the experience (tea ceremonies, CrossFit, chanting, fireside chats) The importance of allowing enough time and space for everything, from personal time with facilitators to possible issues Co-creation and openness: What can facilitators and people coming to the retreat build together? How do we create the most meaningful time together? If you're interested in Vital, applications are now open with an Early Bird discount! And if you want to attend a Vital retreat, we have a few spots left in two: a transpersonal breathwork retreat in Pennsylvania, July 9-14, and a cannabis + breathwork retreat in Agoura Hills, CA in October. When you start rolling and tossing dough at the age of five, you have some strong opinions and approaches to pizza making. Chadwick Corcoran sure does. In fact, he feels so strongly about both hand-stretched thins baked on the hearth, as well as pan-baked Sicilians, he decided to offer both at his suburban L-A pizzeria, Two Doughs. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/pizzacity/support

Building The World's Largest Animal Crossing Outside of LA There's a spot on Highway 101 in Agoura Hills, it's pretty inconspicuous. There's brown and green rolling hills on either side of the highway. Homes are sprinkled here and there. And then a small metal gate that leads off on a hiking trail. You probably wouldn't know it, but soon this spot will be the location of the world's largest animal crossing. This crossing will reconnect habitats that have been cut off from each other for three quarters of a century and it'll do it over a highway that is constantly buzzing with cars — 300,000 pass by this spot every single day. In this piece we're going on a geography voyage — from the north side of the highway to the south, and up the hills, above the highway, to get the real view. We'll start here — there's a big open space on the northern side of the highway. It's at the entrance to Liberty Canyon and where I meet Beth Pratt. To continue reading, go to sciencefriday.com.   Over 5,000 Exoplanets Have Now Been Discovered In March, the NASA Exoplanet Archive logged the 5,000th confirmed planet outside of our solar system. This marks a huge advance since the first exoplanet discovery in 1992, when astronomers Aleksander Wolszczan and Dale Frail announced the discovery of two planets orbiting the pulsar PSR 1257+12. Now, the Archive contains confirmed sightings of planets in a wide range of shapes and sizes—from “hot Jupiters” to “super Earths”—but they still haven't found any solar systems just like our own. In many cases, all astronomers know about these distant planets is their size and how far away from their stars they orbit. The TESS (Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite) mission currently in orbit may eventually add ten thousand more candidates to the lists of possible planets. The Nancy Grace Roman Space telescope and ESA's ARIEL mission, both planned for launch later this decade, could add thousands more. And the James Webb Space Telescope, currently undergoing commissioning, will attempt to characterize the atmospheres of some of the planets astronomers have already discovered. Astronomer Jessie Christiansen, the NASA Exoplanet Archive Project science lead, joins John Dankosky to talk about what we know about planets around distant suns, and how researchers are working to learn more about these far-off worlds.   Scientists Release The First Fully Complete Human Genome Two decades ago, scientists announced they had sequenced the human genome. What you might not know is that there were gaps in that original sequence—about 8% was completely blank. Now, after a years-long global collaboration, scientists have finally released the first fully complete assembly of the human genome. Researchers believe these missing pieces might be the key to understanding how DNA varies between people. Six scientific papers on the topic were published in a special edition of the academic journal Science. Ira talks with Karen Miga and Adam Phillippy, co-founders of the Telomere to Telomere Consortium, an international effort that led to the assembly of this new fully complete human genome.   Transcripts for each segment will be available the week after the show airs on sciencefriday.com.
