POPULARITY
In this episode, we hear from Geoff Reader aka DJ Cheesemaster from Brighton's longest running live experimental music night; Spirit of Gravity. For the last 25 YEARS, the collective have hosted a monthly music event with 3 acts per night, with a focus on bringing experimental music and sound performances to the fore. While live outsider art and experimental sound generation are welcomed they have some illustrious alumni, including Shitmat, Metronomy, Tim Exile, Scanner, Toshimaru Nakamura, Monty Oxymoron, Asmus Tietchens, David Thomas, Eugene Chadbourne, and many more. The night is a perennial fixture in Brighton's music scene - an enduring event at a time when live music is sadly struggling. We hear from the compare and collective member, Geoff who is known for donning a ginger wig and hosting the events as only he knows how. We also discuss SoG gives people from any walk of life a stage to perform and express their sound art, music projects, and stories - with some incredibly experimental, and sometimes challenging shows. https://spiritofgravity.com/ https://spiritofgravity.bandcamp.com/ Submit your music to play Spirit of Gravity here: https://forms.gle/BhRPAiiRYU1Y9srS8 ‘A Poem in Six Parts' by Nick Rilke read by Sasha Goguel https://www.sashavoicemale.com/ Recommended Episode: Sound Art Hannah - Hannah Kemp Welch - midierror meets Episode 15 BONUS: Get 15% off ANY device in midierror's Max4Live store using the code MIDIERRORSONICSTATE15 This is series 2, episode 9 and there are 50 previous episodes available now featuring Fatboy Slim, CJ Bolland, Andrew Huang, Tim Exile, High Contrast, Mylar Melodies, Infected Mushroom, DJ Rap, John Grant and many more. Adam Sandler's intensity as a character and actor garners much love in this discussion of autism, comedy and romance. The relationship of the neurodivergent character with his neurotypical siblings is discussed in terms of its pain and discomfort, and the character's romantic relationship as an antidote to this. The character's chaos meets a certain otherness in Emily Watson's character, perhaps her Englishness featuring as Other. The discussion debates whether the film sets and colour palette, and the spatial arrangement of the scenes, foreground an autistic sensibility. Equally significant in this discussion is the eclectic soundtrack including Shitmat. Discussants: Alex, David, Georgia.
Becoming a first time dad at 40 was exhausting. I felt too old for it yet knew I had been too immature to have done it earlier. Our son was NOT a good sleeper. My recollection of that time was sitting up all night rocking him to sleep while listening to Shitmat and This Morning Jacket. Surprisingly the boy liked the Killa Babylon Kutz album and it would put him to sleep! People often asked how I had the time to record a new online radio episode each week but it was the perfect thing to do during those sleepless nights.
