Welcome to the next episode of the midierror meets... interview series speaking to all kinds of people working in music and sound. In this episode, we're speaking with MELLE BROWN - a London born Producer, DJ, and Presenter known for her uplifting combination of Jazz, Neo Soul, and House. Melle went to The Brit School, and found a love of production making music for her theatrical classes. Moving into Music Technology, she released her first EP 'Blossom' which was played on 1XTRA before she even graduated! Melle worked at Warner Records for over two years and went on to be part of radio shows on RinseFM, NTS, and Represent Radio. Melle later got signed to influential DJ and Presenter Jamz Supernova's 'Future Bounce' label and released her 'Intersection EP' featuring Grammy nominated Tiana Major9 - which gained support from Elton John and Trevor Nelson. She was mentored by Fred Again and Kamille as part of the 'She Is The Music' programme, where she met Toddla T. Later on, her track 'Feel About You' - an unexpected collaboration with him and Annie Mac, won 'Best Dance Track of The Year' in the 2022 Billboard awards. Melle has played Printworks, Glastonbury, Boomtown, Fabric, Field Day and she'll be playing a number of festivals this year: She also heads the 'Mellody Agency' - a music business with community at its core. With an indelible legacy as a key figurehead in the Bristol sound, he has never compromised since emerging in 1989 as a member of Fresh 4. As a founding member of Full Cycle, the first non-London label to truly mould and manipulate the jungle schematic, and Reprazents, one of the first D&B acts to infiltrate the popular psyche and win critical Mercury Music Prize acclaim, his designs continue to help shape our understanding of what drum & bass is.He is regarded as one of drum & bass and jungle's founders and pioneers noted for his unique musical style. Epic experimentalism of Krust's can be heard in his 1997 single ‘Soul In Motion' and similarly ground-breaking ‘98 single ‘True Stories' for Talkin Loud. We have DJ B-12 back with his first show of the year for with a very special tribute mix to his best friend and almost 16-year-old cat, Biggie, who passed away on February 2, 2023. This is a very deep and emotional set that is truly reminiscent of a classic B-12 set. Biggie had been a huge part of the show and the series. He was always in the studio when B would work on mixes and record. He was the perfect studio companion. He filled the room and B's life with so much love and inspiration. He was like a son to B. He loved everyone and enjoyed hanging out when company would come over. There are a handful of you out there who actually got to meet this legendary cat in person. He will surely be missed every day until they meet again. We celebrate Biggie Talbot 2007 - 2023 on this episode, and by the sound of the mix, we believe Biggie was in the studio once again to help B one more time. So, for this month's mix, I wanted to return to one of the first styles I got into as a DJ. Back then, music like this fell under the name of “breakbeat”. This evolved into a much better one: DRUM & BASS. And like many other electronic genres, it has its offshoots. Jungle, Jump-Up, Tech-step, Ragga-Styles, Intelligent, Jazz-step, Atmospheric, Neurofunk, Hard-step, Dark-step, as well as Dubstep. From these we also now have the sultry, jazzy Liquid Funk (lots of beautiful vocals, very dream-like). If you want to check out some DnB artists on your own, look up Goldie, Doc Scott, DJ Rap, Aphrodite, Grooverider, Fabio, and S.P.Y. for starters.
