Hey fitfam, welcome back to The Real Dish—where we keep it real about food, wellness, and living your best, most nourished life. I'm Chef Mareya, The Fit Foodie, and today we're diving into the sometimes ridiculous, often confusing world of TikTok food myths. We've all seen those 15-second videos that swear one food will change your life, heal your gut, cure your skin, and probably pay your bills. But what's the truth? Today, I'm breaking down 10 of the most viral food myths—and giving you the real deal on what's fact, what's fiction, and what's somewhere in between. Let's dig in! P.S. If this was helpful, would you share it with your friends and family? That's my virtual tip jar. :-) Chef Mareya Recomends For my favorite enzymes to help with digestion, try Masszymes from BIoptimzers and get an additional 10% off: https://bioptimizers.com/shop/products/masszymes I'm a big fan of electrolytes for hydration. Try out Sports Research electrolytes, made with coconut water and no artificial colors, flavors or sweeteners. https://www.sportsresearch.com/products/hydrate-electrolytes-packets I've been loving the greens, too! https://www.sportsresearch.com/products/organic-greens Show notes: Myth #1: “Raw garlic on an empty stomach kills parasites and viruses.” Garlic is powerful, no doubt. It has antimicrobial and heart-loving properties—but eating it raw on an empty stomach like it's some ancient cure-all? That's a bit of a reach. What's real: Allicin—the active compound in garlic—is legit, especially when garlic is crushed and left to sit for 10 minutes. But no, it's not going to wipe out every parasite or virus in your body. And your breath? Let's just say...social distancing might apply. Myth #2: “Seed oils are toxic and should be avoided at all costs.” This one has TikTok in a chokehold. While ultra-refined seed oils used in fast food and packaged snacks can contribute to inflammation, the word “toxic” is being thrown around way too loosely. What's real: Balance is the name of the game. Minimize processed foods, yes. But there's no need to panic over a bit of sunflower oil in your hummus. Instead, prioritize whole, anti-inflammatory fats like olive oil, avocado, nuts, and seeds. Myth #3: “Fruit is bad because it's full of sugar.” Let me just say this loud for the people in the back: Fruit is NOT the enemy. What's real: Fruit contains natural sugars, sure—but it also comes with fiber, water, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. It supports gut health, brain function, and heart health. Want to balance your blood sugar? Pair fruit with protein or fat. Don't fear the banana. Myth #4: “Chlorophyll water clears your skin and makes you smell better.” It sounds magical. Glowy skin and minty freshness just by sipping green water? Mmm… not quite. What's real: Chlorophyll has some antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, but the effects from bottled chlorophyll water are minor at best. If it's part of your healthy habits and makes you drink more water, cool. Just don't expect it to replace your skincare or deodorant. Myth #5: “Celery juice cures everything.” It's green, it's trendy, and it had a serious moment on TikTok. But the cure-all claims? Overstated. What's real: Celery juice is hydrating and contains some minerals, but there's zero scientific proof that it heals chronic illnesses or balances your gut on its own. Want the benefits of celery? Just eat the whole stalk—and include it in a nutrient-dense, fiber-rich diet. Myth #6: “The carnivore diet is the healthiest way to eat.” Meat-only diet = peak health? That's what some TikTokers claim. But science and long-term health markers say otherwise. What's real: Eliminating ultra-processed foods can make any restrictive diet feel good at first. But going completely carnivore cuts out essential fiber, antioxidants, and plant compounds that support your gut, heart, and brain. Long-term? It can increase your risk of nutrient imbalances, inflammation, and chronic disease. Plants matter. Period. Myth #7: “You should never eat after 6 PM.” TikTok loves a strict rule. But food timing isn't one-size-fits-all. What's real: Late-night eating can disrupt digestion and sleep if you're overeating or eating heavy, sugary foods. But your metabolism doesn't just shut off at 6 PM. Focus on what and how much you're eating, not just the clock. Myth #8: “Frozen fruits and veggies are less nutritious than fresh.” This one's an old myth that keeps getting recycled. TikTok just made it trend again. What's real: Frozen produce is often flash-frozen at peak ripeness, locking in nutrients. In some cases, it can even be more nutritious than “fresh” produce that's been sitting in transit or on store shelves for days. Keep your freezer stocked—it's a budget-friendly nutrition hack. Myth #9: “You need to drink a gallon of water a day.” It sounds simple and motivational: a gallon a day keeps the toxins away. But is it necessary? What's real: Hydration matters—but your needs vary by body size, activity, climate, and diet. Forcing a gallon of water can actually flush out electrolytes and leave you feeling off. Instead, drink consistently, watch your urine color (pale yellow is ideal), and eat hydrating foods like fruits and veggies. Myth #10: “Alkaline foods can change your body's pH and prevent disease.” The “alkaline diet” trend got a boost on TikTok with claims that it prevents cancer, cures inflammation, and balances your pH. Sounds great, right? What's real: Your body tightly regulates blood pH on its own. You cannot change your body's overall pH through food. That said, alkaline foods like leafy greens, fruits, and veggies are still great for you—not because of their pH, but because they're packed with nutrients. So yes to greens, no to magical thinking. The Real Dish Takeaway Host: Here's what I want you to walk away with: The truth isn't always trending—but it always works. Don't let a 15-second video override your common sense or your body's wisdom. Be curious, question boldly, and nourish yourself with balance, not extremes. If this episode cleared the confusion for you, share it with a friend who's been sucked into the TikTok rabbit hole. And DM me if there's a myth you want me to bust next. I'm here for it. Until next time, eat like you give a fork. Love you, mean it. Bye!

Angela welcomes Catherine Arnston to the show, to talk about the remarkable benefits of spirulina and chlorella, two nutrient-dense microalgae that have been celebrated for their energy-boosting, beauty-enhancing, and longevity-promoting properties. Catherine, a passionate advocate for these superfoods, shares her personal journey of incorporating algae into her daily routine for over 15 years, highlighting the scientific backing from international agencies like NASA and the UN. Together, they talk about the differences between spirulina and chlorella, emphasizing spirulina's role in energizing the body and brain while supporting mitochondrial health, and chlorella's detoxifying properties and ability to build blood. KEY TAKEAWAYS Spirulina and chlorella are considered the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet, with spirulina containing 64% protein and chlorella having the highest concentration of chlorophyll. One gram of algae is equivalent to the nutrition found in a thousand grams of fruits or vegetables. Spirulina is known for its energising properties, supporting brain health and mitochondrial function, while chlorella is recognised for its detoxifying abilities, helping to remove heavy metals and toxins from the body. Spirulina is 99.9% bioavailable, meaning the nutrients are readily absorbed by the body. In contrast, chlorella has a hard cellulose wall that requires more time for digestion, but it effectively binds to and removes toxins. Chlorophyll in chlorella helps build blood and supports an alkaline environment in the body, which is essential for overall health and immune function. An alkaline environment is believed to inhibit the growth of cancer cells. TIMESTAMPS AND KEY TOPICS "One tablet has the same nutrition as an entire plate of vegetables." "Chlorella has the highest chlorophyll in the world, and chlorophyll builds your blood." "Algae absorbs whatever's in the water; you have to be from growing it in a controllable environment." "Taking individual supplements is like listening to a bunch of grade three soloists, each playing a different piece of music." Chlorophyll (a naturally occurring pigment involved in photosynthesis)-inspired molecules hold promise for developing next-generation light-harvesting materials. However, achieving precise control over their assembly is challenging. Researchers have now revealed that attaching dendrons - branched, tree-like structures - can aid in self-assembly of chlorophyll's materials. They found that smaller dendrons lead to stacked, fibre-like structures, while larger dendrons create spherical chlorophyll particles, advancing the development of materials that mimic the light-harvesting efficiency of natural photosynthetic systems. Researchers often look to photosynthesis - a process that turns sunlight into chemical energy in plants and bacteria - as a model for innovation. Photosynthesis is in turn linked to chlorophyll pigments, tiny green molecules that play a key role in harvesting light. Naturally, these chlorophyll molecules are organized into precise structures to optimize light absorption in plants and bacteria, and efficiently capture sunlight for energy. Inspired by this natural structure, scientists have explored ways to synthetically assemble chlorophyll-based structures for applications in optoelectronics and renewable energy. A recent study led by Professor Shiki Yagai and Mr Ryo Kudo from the Graduate School of Engineering at Chiba University in Japan, along with a team of researchers, demonstrated how modifying chlorophyll-like molecules can direct them to form distinct structural arrangements, offering insights that could transform synthetic light-harvesting materials. The study was published in Volume 11, Issue 22 of the Organic Chemistry Frontiers on October 08, 2024. "Photosynthetic bacteria utilize highly organized chlorophyll arrays, allowing them to capture light even in low-light conditions. We aimed to recreate these structures based on the identical synthetic molecular design, as comparing their photophysical properties might help us understand why such structures were selected in the course of evolution in nature, " explains Prof. Yagai. To create these structures, the team modified the chlorophyll molecule by attaching a barbituric acid unit via hydrogen bonding and further added tree-like molecular structures called "dendrons" to form stable rosette-like rings and control their hierarchical stacking. When the modified chlorophyll was dissolved in different solvents, the chlorophyll rosettes displayed a remarkable behavior. In a non-polar solvent like methylcyclohexane, chlorophyll derivatives with smaller second-generation dendrons were stacked into helical fibers, while those with bulkier, third-generation dendrons remained in smaller, disc-shaped aggregates. They could thereby assemble the chlorophyll molecules into two different forms, namely columnar stacks and discrete aggregates, mimicking the circular and tubular arrangements seen in photosynthetic bacteria. In contrast, when dissolved in chloroform, both the chlorophyll derivatives formed rosette patterns. Using advanced imaging techniques like atomic force microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and small-angle X-ray scattering, the team characterized the unique shapes and arrangement patterns of these synthetic chlorophyll assemblies. They found that the helical fibers formed by the second-generation dendron chlorophylls exhibited a highly ordered structure, while the third-generation dendron chlorophylls displayed a more homogeneous, spherical shape. "Our findings show that subtle adjustments in molecular design can lead to significant differences in the final assembled structure of the chlorophyll, which could be exploited to create materials with specific light-harvesting properties," remarks Prof. Yagai. "These insights into controlling molecular self-assembly could ignite breakthroughs in functional materials science. We are thrilled by the potential to create materials that not only mimic but surpass the capabilities of natural photosy...

Did you know that Sea plants are a natural source of essential vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants? It's well known that the standard American diet does not supply adequate minerals for proper human health. Luckily Sea Plants contain high concentrations of minerals, including potassium, calcium, iodine, magnesium, zinc, and others.Seaweed contains two chemicals that are excellent for all over detoxification: chlorophyll and alginates. Chlorophyll helps remove heavy metals from the blood, including excessive amounts of trace metals, and alginates, which are particularly good at removing environmental toxins. In our Opinion It is best to use a blend of them in supplements as certain sea plants contain various nutrients and phytonutrients used by the many systems of the body.Guest: Amber Lynn Vitale, CN is Board Certified in Holistic Nutrition® and a Certified Dietary Supplement Professional™. Let's concentrate on the N, P and K. Nitrogen is the stuff that makes plants green; this molecule provides the building blocks for Chlorophyll. If you have plants that are valued for their leaves and green stems (grass, lawns, lettuce, ornamental trees and shrubs) they will need more N than say P or K. Plants with important roots (carrots, parsnips, potatoes) and other underground organs that will grow as they explore for “food in the dark”; they need a little bit more P (Phosphate) to do just that. And the K (Potash) is for reproduction. Plant reproduction is of course mostly through flowers, which are pollinated and hence become fertilised to produce seeds and fruits which, when deposited on soil, will yield new seedlings. That means that flowering plants and fruiting trees, shrubs, vines and berry bushes, really appreciate an extra dollop of potash, just to keep the cool stuff coming. But in Autumn temperatures are going down and most plants, trees and shrubs will slowly stop growing to prepare for winter. They simply don't need a lot of fertiliser at all – in fact many of them slowly stop taking in these food molecules. Generally speaking: if you would fertilise plants in autumn the plant may try to create some more new leaves – roses (and quite a few other plant species) would do that in late summer and autumn. Those soft, new leaves will be very susceptible to frost damage. Not advisable! Right now, a lot of shrubs and trees are trying to prepare for winter by storing the N, P, K and such valuable macro or micronutrients before they drop the leaves. Those nutrients are “stored” in the twigs, stems and woody parts; the leaves will discolour to reds, oranges and yellows, Those autumn colours literally look like deficiency patterns – mind you, they look beautiful! Just visit Central Otago. One thing I would fertilise from now on is the compost bin!! If I use the Seaweed Tea, its nutrients will encourage tiny critters and bacteria, fungi etc., to develop in the compost. That results in a much quicker decomposition and more fertility when you use that compost in spring. Another good use of fertiliser is for Cymbidium orchids! These plants are often grown in warmer areas (out of the frosty zones) and will appreciate a high K (potash) diet in autumn and winter so they can produce a heap of flower buds in late winter. Similarly certain bulbs would like a bit of slow-release food, to develop their own flowers or even more bulbs. Think about Garlic and shallots! Winter is often their growth time. On this episode of the Dr. Tyna Show, I am sitting down with Catharine Arnston, the Founder, CEO and Chief Scientific Officer of Energy Bits, makers behind the small but mighty algae tablets. My mentor was big into the health benefits of algae as a supplement, but I've never given it the attention that it deserves. Recently I was looking into it again as a food source, as I am not a huge fan of vegetables. I am transitioning out of a largely meat-based, carnivore diet and back into a more variety type diet now that my gut and immune symptoms are more under control, and algae seems like a perfect fit for this. As luck would have it, I was connected to Catharine and I couldn't wait to get her on the show and pick her brain. This was a fascinating conversation and I learned a lot, I know you will too. Exploring the science behind chromophores, we unravel how these molecular entities selectively absorb specific wavelengths of light and can become "activated." As a result of this photoactivation, chlorophyll metabolites within the human body, when combined with sunlight exposure, MAY, according to several studies, have interesting and profound implications for cellular energy production and longevity. Topics: 1. Introduction to the Topic - Importance of ATP production - When chromophores are stimulated by light? - Accessibility to red light therapy panels - Enhancing sunlight absorption 2. Understanding Chromophores - Definition and function - Molecular structure and electron configuration - Selective absorption of wavelengths - Example: Methylene blue 3. Differentiating Types of Reactions - Focus on chlorophyll metabolites' integration within cells and mitochondria 4. Role of Chlorophyll Metabolites in ATP Production - Overview of ATP production in mitochondria - Interaction of chlorophyll metabolites with CoQ10 - Photoreduction of quinones and, specifically CoQ10 in the electron transport chain 5. Specific Chlorophyll Metabolites and ATP Synthesis - Focus on chlorin p-a - Activation through photon absorption - Review of the mechanism of ATP synthesis stimulation 6. Light Requirements for Chlorophyll Activation - Necessary wavelengths for activation (around 670 nm) - Comparison of red light therapy and natural sunlight - Evidence of chlorophyll activation under sunlight. Is natural sunlight enough to activate the metabolites in this case? 7. Penetration of Light in Biological Tissues - Attenuation of light in human and animal tissues - Penetration depth in various tissues 8. Effects of Chlorophyll on Cellular Biology - Increase in ATP in isolated animal mitochondria - Extension of lifespan in worms (up to 17%) 9. Conclusion and Personal Protocols - Need for further research - Personal supplementation protocols - Personal integration of chlorophyll supplementation with sun exposure for enhanced ATP production. Today, more than ever, because of all the stress inputs and how our bodies are processing the data that we're being exposed to, we very often need a little bit of a support. That's where the term supplement should come in at. Supplements should not replace an already healthy diet. It should supplement, it should fill in minor gaps. It should help us to be able to go above and beyond so that we're running on all cylinders. Now, we've existed recently in recent generations in the paradigm of the "multivitamin", and the data is now pointing to the fact that there is a very big difference in synthetic versions of vitamins versus real whole food versions of those same vitamins. Just because the the chemical equation is the same does not mean that it's impacting our health the same way. Take for example, essential nutrient vitamin E. This nutrient is important for healthy function of your cardiovascular system, cognitive performance, and even the health of your skin. Well, the study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition determined that natural food-based vitamin E, has nearly twice the bioavailability of synthetic vitamin E. So again, the data is now becoming more and more clear. Just because we get a "multivitamin" that has these synthetic versions of these essential nutrients, does not mean that our cells can actually utilize it. So when we're looking at fortifying our nutrition, providing ourselves with an abundance of essential nutrients, we wanna do this with number one, real whole foods. And number two, real food concentrates. Superfood concentrates. This is why I'm such a huge fan of Organifi. Organifi provides organic whole food-based superfood concentrates superfoods like chlorella, for example, which is incredibly rich in Chlorophyll, which a study published in the Journal Appetite found that chlorophyll can aid in weight loss and reduce the urge to eat hyper-palatable foods. But it also has remarkable micronutrients like Lutein and Zeaxanthin that helps with our cardiovascular system, with our vision and much more. These foods go above and beyond with their nutrient density. And on top of that, a double-blind placebo controlled study published in the journal Clinical and Experimental Hypertension found that Chlorella was able to normalize blood pressure of test subjects with hypertension. So when I'm saying these foods are superfoods, I'm not exaggerating. We're talking about science backed, we're talking about real. If we're talking about a multivitamin, this is where you need to turn, Whole Food concentrates. Organifi's Green Juice contains chlorella, spirulina, ashwagandha, coconut, and it comes together in this really refreshing beverage that's easy to make, easy to travel with as well. They have these great go packs and providing our families with real whole food-based complimentary nutrition. Go to organifi.com/model. You get 20% off their incredible Green Juice Blend. They also have a great Red Juice Formula Gold highlighting organic turmeric as the foundational ingredient in that formula. And so much more. Organifi is doing stuff the right way, organic, cold processing, organic whole food-based nutrition at organifi.com/model. That's organifi.com/model for 20% off storewide. This episode is brought to you by Four Sigmatic. The human brain is the most powerful pharmacy in the universe. And I'm saying that because every single thought that we think creates correlating chemistry in our bodies and that biochemistry is designed uniquely for you. It's beyond bio identical hormones or neurotransmitters. These are designed specifically for your own receptor site. So what you're making within your own body based on your thoughts, your perception of reality, is of the utmost importance. And obviously, thoughts of stress and anxiety, and worry and fear, these are going to create cascades that make us feel a certain way. The same with more positive and affirmative feelings and thoughts of joy, of love, of connection. But all of our emotions matter. Now, the thing is, if we're talking about health and longevity, we want to make sure that we're stacking conditions to have more positive, affirmative thoughts and buffer us from the stressful thoughts that we are inevitably going to have. Now, our sleep hygiene, our movement practices, and also our nutrition are of the utmost importance in helping to modulate these things. And when it comes to managing stress, there is one particular story, tea that has been utilized for thousands of years that stands head and shoulders above the rest. A study published in Biomedical Research found that test subjects with a variety of health complaints, including anxiety and poor sleep quality, were given lion's main medicinal mushroom or a placebo for four weeks to monitor their metabolic and psychological impact. The participants who utilize lion's mane had significantly reduced levels of anxiety and irritation than those in the placebo group. The researcher stated, quote, our results show that lion's main intake has the possibility to reduce depression and anxiety unquote. Not only that, scientists at the University of Malaya discovered that compounds in lion's mane are able to significantly improve the activity of a nerve growth factor in the brain. Nerve growth factor is essential in the regulation of growth, maintenance, proliferation and survival of various brain cells. If we want to have a healthy brain and protect our brain cells, which we don't have, the regenerative activity of brain cells like we do other cells in our bodies, we've got to take care of our brain cells. This is one of the few things ever discovered that has that protective capacity for me and my family. We want to make sure that the medicinal mushrooms that we're utilizing lions mane, chaga, rishi, and the like are all done via a dual extraction to make sure that we're getting these bio active compounds in a more full fashion. So via a hot water extract and an alcohol extract, there's one company that's doing that and infusing these incredible medicinal mushrooms into things like organic coffee, organic hot cocoa, and I'm talking about the folks at Four Sigmatic. Go to foursigmatic.com//model you get 10% off store wide of all of their incredible medicinal mushroom elixirs, cocos, and their organic coffee blends as well. Today I actually had the lions main and chaga organic coffee blend. This is one of those things, of course, it puts you on ten, but it helps you to modulate and manage your energy. It's not one of those things where you get this jolt of energy and then it leaves you lagging later on. It's very steady, mild mannered behavior and also helping to really activate the cognitive function that we're looking at when we're talking about things like lion's main, medicinal mushroom. Can get 10% off store wide plus more. They got some incredible packages that you've got to check out in specials over at foursigmatic.com//model. Today, I am blessed to have here with me Catharine Arnston. Catharine Arnston is the Founder and CEO of ENERGYbits® and an expert on the health benefits of algae. Catharine's passion for algae is contagious. She has been a speaker at hundreds of conferences, podcasts, broadcasts, and national television. Her scientific fluency allows her to explain algae with such simplicity and clarity that it quickly becomes apparent why algae are urgently needed. Algae is the most nutritionally dense food globally, yet it is virtually unknown outside Asia. Catharine's mission is to change that. In this episode, Catharine opens the show by speaking about the importance of superoxide dismutase (S.O.D.) for clearing free radicals. The highest concentration of S.O.D. is actually in spirulina. Catharine explains how spirulina could be the missing piece to improving the health of your mitochondria. Plus, Catharine speaks about all the other health benefits of algae. Tune in as we chat about using algae as a biohack before red light therapy and how algae can replace your mineral supplements. For Clearing Free Radicals Spirulina is an effortless way to get the nutrients you need to give you energy. The true energy that you get from spirulina is really at the cellular level. When your cells have energy, you're getting better digestion, reduced inflammation, more free radicals, and you can think clearer. Inside the mitochondria is a second membrane where ATP production occurs. Virtually no antioxidants can make their way into that inner membrane. There's nothing that can make its way into the inner membrane to get rid of those free radicals except something called S.O.D. The highest concentration of S.O.D. is in spirulina. [13:00] Spirulina Could Be The Missing Piece To Getting The Mitochondria To Function Better Spirulina is called cyanobacterial; they are your mitochondria. Mitochondria in our cells came from the cyanobacteria, effectively spirulina. When you have spirulina, it's like introducing your body to itself. If you look at the shape of spirulina and you look at the mitochondria, they are identical. When you take something identical to your DNA, your body knows what to do. [17:50] How Chlorophyll Can Heal Cellular Damage Inside The Body When you have free radicals, they cause what's called oxidative stress. Oxidative stress will cause cellular damage. With cellular damage, nutrients cannot flow into the cells, and toxins cannot flow out of the cells. So, you will end up with more free radicals inside the cell, causing severe damage. Eventually, this can cause rogue cells, leading to cancer. Chlorella and spirulina are excellent at correcting that because they have the highest chlorophyll concentration in the world. Healthy fats will heal your cell walls. Chlorophyll is a fat-based pigment. [23:25] The Reasons You Should Take Algae Instead of Fish Oil Spirulina is higher in GLA and omegas than fish oil. Fish get their omegas from algae. So cut out the middle man by going straight to the algae. Algae is cleaner, and it doesn't go any farther down the food chain. Plus, it is already rancid by the time you get fish oil from the store. With Catharine's algae, you'll get anti-inflammatory benefits. Also, it never goes rancid, and it never goes bad. [32:30] Does Algae Increase Your Glucose Levels? Algae do not decrease your ketones, and it does not increase your glucose. Catharine has tested it herself with people who have CGM monitors. Algae has been used for decades for people who have diabetes. Catharine's products are taken by people looking to reverse their diabetes. Unfortunately, we know more about our cell phones than we do our bodies. When something goes wrong, people run to conventional medical sources. Instead, we need to learn how our body functions and what it requires to function at an optimal level. [37:50] You Can't Have An Iron Overload When Taking Spirulina or Chlorella The nice thing about algae is that it's what's called an adaptogen. It won't be absorbed in your body if you do not need that nutrient. However, this is not the case with iron supplements. Catharine urges people not to take iron supplements because you can easily get overloaded with iron. The iron in the spirulina or chlorella comes from an organic source. So, your body can recognize it and know what to do with it. [39:20] Taking Algae Can Replace Your Mineral Supplements Spirulina and chlorella are loaded with minerals like magnesium and potassium. When your body makes S.O.D, it needs manganese, zinc, and copper. All of these minerals are in spirulina. Many people will use chlorella because it helps recover your health and helps remove toxins. Take chlorella for detox instead of activated charcoal. Activated charcoal will pull out all minerals, not just the bad stuff. [41:20] Algae Is A Great Biohack Before Red Light Therapy Red light therapy stimulates mitochondrial growth; it also reduces inflammation. Bacteria have chloroplasts in them, and they generate energy from light. When you take spirulina or chlorella before red light therapy, you stimulate the mitochondria even more. Marathon runners adopted Catharine's products quickly because the spirulina gave them energy and didn't upset their stomachs. When you have chlorophyll in your body during red light therapy, it will increase your energy production. AND MUCH MORE! There's no doubt that a keto diet is a great way to lose weight, but it can also hit you straight in the vagina. Have you recently started keto and noticed an unpleasant vaginal odor? You may have developed keto crotch. Keto crotch is a noticeable change in vaginal odor after starting the keto diet. While there isn't a lot of scientific research on this topic, plenty of women report that they experience keto crotch. Changing to a high-fat and low-carb diet shifts your body to burn fat instead of sugar for energy. Keto triggers profound metabolic changes that support weight loss, balance hormone levels, and improve cognition. The good news is that once your body adjusts to burning fat, keto crotch will go away. Here's what Dr. Oakley & Holly will go over in this episode: • Yes, it's 100% true that eating a keto diet can mess your vagina's pH • A keto diet is based on the consumption of high protein and fat, and low carbs. This entire thing might be great when it comes to weight loss, but when you talk about the pH level of your vagina, it fails miserably. • How to get rid of keto crotch • Experiencing keto crotch doesn't mean keto isn't right for you. As your body adjusts to the keto diet, unpleasant smells around your crotch area will diminish and there are plenty of steps you can take in the meantime to reduce symptoms. • Eat plenty of green leafy vegetables. • Green leafy veggies like spinach, collard greens, and mustard greens are rich sources of chlorophyll, a bright green pigment. Chlorophyll is also known as an “internal deodorizer” and helps with keto-breath and other keto-related body odors. If keto crotch is linked to pH imbalance or changes to the bacterial ecosystem of the vagina, a probiotic supplement can reduce odors and support your vaginal health like from Utiva Health. A big Shout-Out to our fabulous Sponsor UTIVA!!! Utiva Bladder Health is clinically proven to help reduce overactive bladder and lower urinary tract symptoms. Nik from Rooted Leaf Nutrients (use code GROWCAST for 20% off) is BACK for another installment of his nutrient deep dive - this time focusing on phosphorous and magnesium. Nik shares his beliefs around the myth of the PK booster, and why phosphorous has been mislabeled as a nutrient that should be overapplied during the flowering stage. Nik instead encourages to think more about the relationship between MAGNESIUM and phosphorous, tracing these minerals all the way back to the very beginning of the photosynthetic process- where magnesium helps capture energy from light and transfers into the tri-phosphate bond known as ATP. Nik extrapolates on what this means to us cannabis growers, and how we can maximize our plants biomass production when we full understand the link between magnesium, phosphorous, and light intensity.
