Neera Tanden is one of the most prominent voices in the Democratic party — and her organization, the Center for American Progress, has been pumping out policy ideas ahead of the 2020 election, helping shape the Democratic primary. Neera sits down with POLITICO's Dan Diamond to discuss CAP's signature Medicare Extra proposal and Democrats' debate over Medicare for All (starts at the 1:00 mark), what she makes of the Democratic primary (15:30), President Donald Trump's influence on politics and why Neera blames Trump for the "warfare" gripping America (22:45), and if the Democratic party has a leadership gap (28:30). MENTIONED ON THE SHOW Neera first appeared on PULSE CHECK in June 2017, as Republicans pushed to repeal the Affordable Care Act. CAP commissioned an independent analysis from Avalere on its Medicare Extra plan. Vox's Ezra Klein praised many elements of CAP's Medicare Extra proposal. Progressives have urged Democrats to commit to Medicare for All, saying that opting for a public option instead would still leave millions at risk. A new NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll found that 70 percent of respondents favor "Medicare for All" when they have a choice between a government plan and private insurance, but just 41 percent favor a mandatory Medicare for All plan.

Democrats Have Fallen Into Trump's Trap, CHAOS Erupts In House Over Tweets. The tweet debacle continues as House Democrats are sent into complete chaos trying to denounce Trump's tweets.Vox's Ezra Klein recently came out to say that Trump is trying to force Democrats to prop up the far left socialists in order to frame the Democrats as entirely far left. It worked. Not only did Trump successfully distract from possibly the biggest story in his presidency, the ending of asylum for Central Americans, he forced Democrats to prop up Ocasio-Cortez ad the far left, and has now has the Democrats bickering with each other instead of getting anything done.At a time when we need Democrats unified Trump easily set a trap and sent Democrats into chaos.Support the show (http://timcast.com/donate)

Vox's Ezra Klein has some strong words for Brian Stelter about the choices newsrooms make. He wonders why President Trump's comments at rallies receive so much attention. He also sounds off on the appointment of Bill Shine and the media's framing of Trump's poll numbers. "One of the hard things that we do badly in journalism," he says, is "that we don't make clear to our audience what is our counterfactual... what is the other option."
On this episode of Hanging With Apes the guys start off the episode by acknowledging the greatness of 'World Book Day' and sharing the books they've enjoyed recently. The conversation then tilts to the recent controversy surrounding rapper Kanye West due to the right leaning nature of his tweets. Furthermore, Kanye recently praised Candace Owens in a tweet and reportedly told Hot 97 DJ Ebro during a phone conversation that he “loves” Trump. The guys discuss whether these recent comments are genuine or manufactured to create controversy. Finally, K. Cartoon and Rx Phonics discuss American author and neuroscientist Sam Harris and his recent controversy, fueled by Vox's Ezra Klein, regarding a conversation he had on his podcast about race, genetics and IQ with conservative Charles Murray. Is race and culture too taboo to talk about or is it a healthy conversation to have? Enjoy this episode of Hanging With Apes.
In this episode, Bob flies solo when analyzing a Krugman interview with Vox's Ezra Klein. Being close to the holiday, it's only appropriate that our Keynesian Nobelist seems to be contradicting the ghost of Krugman past. Show notes for Ep. 118
