SEASON 3 EPISODE 84: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:50) SPECIAL COMMENT: Happy Insurrection Day, when Republicans will certify the election of a “president” who is constitutionally ineligible to hold the office according to the 3rd clause of the 14th Amendment and the Electoral Count Reform Act of 2022 and who himself fomented the assault four years ago that ended our conceit about the peaceful transfer of power. The illegitimate president’s Republican whores and servants may in fact trudge to the capitol through a blizzard to make this prostitution of democracy official The Democrats? They won’t say anything because this didn’t TEST well as a campaign ad and their flaccid willingness to risk anything in our defense is further deflated by their perception that this is a fait accompli and since it is a fait accompli ESPECIALLY because of their own cowardice they now have to do their best to compromise, and obey in advance, a group of bandits and pirates posing as a presidential administration, whose only desire TO compromise is to compromise Democrats and the Free Press and Reality and democracy itself. These are some of those Republicans: Freshman Congressman Riley Moore – “My constituents have sent me here to this town not to work with Democrats but to destroy their agenda." “We asked everyone not to leak. Please for god’s sake do not give inside information to the enemy” that's from the LEAD Republican in the House, the CREEPIEST Republican in the House since Denny Hastert, Mike Johnson and I don’t know if by “the enemy” he means the Democrats or the media or both or the temptations of his anti-porn app, and I no longer care. This is Insurrection Day and we all KNOW what the Republicans would be doing today in the mirror version of this grim reality; if they were in charge and Trump were in office and had presidential immunity and a new president was about to sign off on putting him in jail and it would be what they actually did four years ago today only they wouldn’t bother to try to be subtle or legal about it (they’d be gassing up the tanks). AND NO, JUDGE JUAN MERCHAN IS NO HERO. He too is obeying in advance. Along with the Washington Post, squeezing out cartoonist Ann Telnaes. And Brian Stelter, covering up for Fox News. And the media soft-pedaling the Vegas bomber's hopes to see all Democrats murdered, and Congressman Tom Suozzi, and soon-to-disappear Senator Kyrsten Sinema. B-Block (29:30) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Those memorializing Aaron Brown without including the incident about his refusal to cover The Challenger explosion; Congresswoman Nancy Mace and "Gunther Eagleman" who only read the headline; and the meticulous Oliver Darcy who only gets mentioned here because he asked a question that really traumatized me: What will Olivia Nuzzi do in 2025? (42:14) POSTSCRIPTS TO THE NEWS: Remember dear Flaco? The majestic owl liberated from the Central Park Zoo? There is an extraordinary new book about him. And from an old book: remember the Ash Heaps in "The Great Gatsby"? They were real and you'll never believe what was built were they used to sit. C-Block (52:00) EVERY DOG HAS ITS DAY: Young Tippy needs the same surgery my new pup Kitt just got, and we need your help to pay for it. (55:30) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL: It's an actors' story that invokes Trump, Orson Welles, The Odd Couple, Mike Nichols - and me? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
MSNBC is still on the McDonald's thing. They still can't get over how bizarre and strange it was that President Trump did that. Not that it's a surprise at this point, but the Wall Street Journal is now reporting that pretty much everyone in Washington DC knew for some time that President Joe Biden was sundowning, and collectively worked to hide the fact from the public. Biden's inner circle, in particular, shielded the President from scrutiny while also lashing out at anyone in the media who dared to point out the evidence in front of us all about Biden's mental decline. Jimmy and Americans' Comedian Kurt Metzger discuss the Journal story and what it says about the Democratic Party and corporate media. Plus a segment featuring a compilation of corporate media mouthpieces like Joe Scarborough, Nicole Wallace, Brian Stelter and Chris Cilizza lying about Biden's cognitive powers. Also featuring Stef Zamorano and Mike MacRae. And a phone call from Tim Walz!
On this episode of ABL Live, we covered a variety of topics, including ongoing drama behind the Government funding "CR" bill, Venezuelan migrant gangs being arrested all over the country, Fani Willis being removed from the Trump "election interference" case, Brian Stelter fuming at alternative media sources for becoming more popular than mainstream media, San Francisco hiring a fat-positive body weight consultant, and much more! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/anthony-logan/support
Remember right before the 2020 election when CNN host Brian Stelter ran a lengthy segment explaining how the Hunter Biden laptop story was a big hoax, obviously generated in a conspiratorial manner by GOP partisans, likely in cahoots with Russia? Well, that makes one of you, since Brian himself claims it never happened. Except it did, which means that Brian Stelter is lying today about not having lied in the past. Quite the impressive tangle of lies — no wonder CNN has hired Stelter back after letting him go a couple of years ago. Jimmy and Americans' Comedian Kurt Metzger discuss how Stelter is himself guilty of everything he accuses Republicans of doing. Plus segments on former Obama administration official Van Jones admitting that Donald Trump is smarter than Democrats, footage of assassinated Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi predicting the demise of Syria, and Dr. Casey Means testifying about all the critical health information that is routinely left out of medical school training. Also featuring Stef Zamorano!

There was no shortage of finger-pointing and recrimination among the chattering classes after Donald Trump's election. But now, as the dust settles and 2024 comes to a close, it's high time for some soul-searching and reflection, That's the goal of this year's final episode of Inside the Hive, where Brian Stelter—who returned to his alma mater as Chief Media Analyst at CNN earlier this year—is joined by Hive Editor Michael Calerone and Executive Editor Claire Howorth to unpack what they got wrong in 2024 as well as the lessons they can take into next year. For one, as Howorth points out, that means redefining what constitutes “alternative media,” which proved unexpectedly instrumental in turning out new parts of Trump's base. Calderone also adds that political charisma and celebrity also can't go underestimated, arguing that Democrats should strive to elevate leaders who can communicate effectively in a variety of formats. “The next person,” he says, “is gonna need star power.” Learn about your ad choices: dovetail.prx.org/ad-choices
Democrats effectively lost the 2024 presidential race a year earlier by rallying behind a deeply unpopular incumbent, New York Times politics reporter Astead Herndon argues in a frank discussion with host Brian Stelter about Joe Biden's legacy. Herndon, who also hosts “The Run-Up” podcast, talks about how Democrats (and some in the media) missed major warning signs about how Biden's age and accomplishments were perceived outside the D.C. bubble—and where the party goes next.
On this episode of “Sara Gonzales Unfiltered,” Sara showcases her excitement regarding RFK Jr.'s appointment as secretary of Health and Human Services. She passionately discusses the positives changes he would implement on behalf of the American people and their children. Naturally, the Left and mainstream media are convinced he's the worst pick, but Sara believes they're scared because the medical industrial complex is pulling the media's strings as his nomination alone sent pharmaceutical company stocks into a tailspin yesterday. The panel joins Sara to talk through the Democrats' and public health community's reaction to RFK Jr.'s nomination. Democrat talking heads Stephen Colbert, Jake Tapper, and Brian Stelter all show great ridicule and concern. Sara and the panel pivot to newly elected Senate Majority Leader John Thune and examine how Trump's nominations of RFK Jr., Matt Gaetz, Tulsi Gabbard, and Pete Hegseth will immediately put Thune's negotiating skills to the test. Will he be able to gather the votes to push them all through their Senate confirmations, and will he be able to do it in a timely fashion? The episode concludes with Sara and the panel relishing in the return of Infowars to Alex Jones. Sara is joined by actor, musician, and host Ian Crossland and BlazeTV contributor Matthew Marsden. MSNBC is still on the McDonald's thing. They still can't get over how bizarre and strange it was that President Trump did that. Brian Stelter was on CNN defending Barack Obama for spying on journalists because: Trump is bad. And, in the immigration domination world, they are still saying this: “We're not doing what you say we're doing, even though we're bragging about winning by doing what you say we're doing.” …Got it.Episode Links: MSNBC says working at McDonald's is bizarre and strange. As the people who've worked to destroy America yuk it up in New York City, Americans see - in one room - how the High School Musical of government works. Listen to the best takeaways from the Al Smith charity dinner as Democrats nervously watch Kamala's star fade. A new battleground survey underscores their worst nightmare as we watch a political shift in America to the right. We end with a little Brian Stelter so you feel smarter.
Kamala Harris is making the media rounds in the final weeks of the 2024 face, talking to everyone from Howard Stern to Fox News, “Call Her Daddy” to “The Breakfast Club.” On this episode, Brian Stelter catches up with senior spokesman Ian Sams about the campaign's campaign strategy and the creative ways they're trying to reach, and persuade, the small sliver of undecided voters who may tip the election. Plus, Stelter talks with Hive editor Michael Calderone about Donald Trump's attempt to nail down the bro vote by stopping by podcasts geared toward young, male audiences.
James Carville is not known for mincing words. Back in 2021, the legendary Democratic strategist ruffled quite a few feathers when he blamed “wokeness” for the party's electoral defeats. He still hasn't backed down from that belief—but he's also willing to accept that Kamala Harris has a lot more to worry about than safe spaces and language policing when it comes to trouncing Donald Trump. One challenge in particular, he tells Brian Stelter on the latest episode of Inside the Hive, is presenting herself a bold persona with a bright new vision in a period of Trump-era malaise. "I think the best construct for her is ‘fresh versus stale,'" Carville says of Harris. "I've said the most thunderous sound in all of politics is the sound of a turning page."
With less than six weeks until Election Day, host Brian Stelter discusses the historically close race between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump with Nate Silver, the renowned polling expert, statistician, and author of the “Silver Bulletin” Substack newsletter. Silver breaks down the latest numbers in swing states, warns against rapidly shifting media narratives, expresses frustration with his former site, and details the community of risk-takers at the center of his new book, "On the Edge."Share your thoughts on Inside the Hive. The Political Scene brings you a recent episode of Vanity Fair's “Inside the Hive,” hosted by the special correspondent Brian Stelter. The Atlantic staff writer Helen Lewis and the Bloomberg reporter Ashley Carman join Stelter to discuss the Trump campaign's strategy of courting so-called podcast bros, including the comedian Theo Von and the Twitch streamer Adin Ross. Both have provided Trump with some of the most viral moments of the 2024 campaign, and helped him reach a young, male audience whose support he may need in order to win in November. The strategy carries risks, however, as we've seen in the case of Trump's running mate, J. D. Vance, whose past media appearances have come back to haunt him. “They do kind of lure people into this . . . confessional, chatty mode,” Lewis says of the bro podcasts. “And I think that's why maybe they could become quite dangerous. . . . Politicians might not realize how that might look in the cold light of day to other people.”This episode originally aired on September 12th.To discover more from “Inside the Hive” and other Vanity Fair podcasts, visit vanityfair.com/podcasts.
