Remember that one time in 2019 when presidential candidate Andrew Yang promised a thousand dollars a month for a whole year to ten U.S. families if they donated to his campaign? Yang would like to address this. Pulling from his latest book titled Hey Yang, Where's My Thousand Bucks?, Yang shares stories from his remarkable life so far, including this viral moment during a live presidential debate. Beyond championing universal basic income, Yang would like to bring a little humor into the world. In his candid and playful accounts, Yang examines where the U.S. sits today through the lens of his unexpected journey from entrepreneur to presidential candidate. Part political memoir, part comedy, and part interior monologue, his stories attempt to make complex ideas accessible and entertaining. It's this entertainment that he sees as a unifying potential. Yang believes in the power of laughter, even in — and maybe especially in — trying times. For anyone frustrated with traditional political narratives, curious about the human behind the headlines, or simply looking for a light-hearted exploration of trying to improve life in the U.S., Yang wants to enlighten, entertain, and inspire. It's through this optimism, Yang hopes, that we can create real positive change. Andrew Yang is an entrepreneur and the cofounder of the Forward Party, a new independent political movement dedicated to restoring the promise of American democracy. He was a Democratic presidential candidate in 2020 whose campaign outlasted over a dozen mainstream political officeholders and attracted support from hundreds of thousands of everyday Americans, dubbed "the Yang Gang." His best-selling books The War on Normal People and Forward: Notes on the Future of Our Democracy helped introduce the idea of universal basic income and ranked choice voting into the mainstream. His most recent work was the novel The Last Election, co-written with Stephen Marche. Named by President Obama as a Presidential Ambassador of Global Entrepreneurship, Yang is the founder of Humanity Forward and Venture for America, and founder and CEO of Noble Mobile. He lives with his family in New York. Jonathan Ng Sposato is a serial entrepreneur, media executive, and impact investor who has helped shape the national tech and media landscape. He is the only entrepreneur to sell two startups to Google (Phatbits and Picnik) and a third, PicMonkey, to Shutterstock. He is chairman and co-founder of GeekWire, one of the country's most trusted technology news platforms. A former senior leader at Microsoft, Jonathan played a key role in the early development of Xbox, MSN applications, and major consumer initiatives. In 2016, he made national headlines by committing to invest exclusively in female-founded companies and has since been honored by organizations including American Women in Science, Vital Voices, and the University of Washington. He is the founder of JoySauce.tv, an American-Asian focused media channel recognized by the Center for Asian American Media and GLAAD, and hosts JoySauce Late Night. He also owns and publishes Seattle Magazine and Seattle Business Magazine, restoring the legacy titles to local ownership. His civic leadership has earned him the Seattle Mayor's Impact Award, and in 2024 he was inducted into the Asian Hall of Fame as a media trailblazer.
China's consumer market is gaining fresh momentum from an explosion of new business formats and consumption scenarios as well as a robust policy push, and the dynamism is prompting global companies to position themselves for a stake in what they see as one of the world's most significant sources of future growth, analysts and executives said. Their remarks came ahead of the six-day China International Consumer Products Expo — one of Beijing's initiatives to shore up consumer spending — that opens on Monday in Hainan province, as policymakers place boosting consumption at the top of China's economic agenda for this year and beyond.这些言论发表之际,为期六天的中国国际消费品博览会即将于4月13日在海南省开幕。该博览会是我国提振消费支出的举措之一。当前,扩大消费已被列为我国今年及未来几年经济工作的重中之重。According to the outline of China's 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30), the country aims to "achieve a notable increase in household consumption as a share of gross domestic product, making domestic demand a more prominent economic driver" over the next five years.根据“十五五”规划纲要,未来五年,我国将“着力使居民消费占国内生产总值比重显著上升,使内需成为拉动经济增长的主动力和稳定锚”。"China's growth has moderated from its historic highs, but the economy — especially the consumer market — has proven remarkably adaptive," said Daniel Zipser, senior partner at global management consultancy McKinsey &Company.全球管理咨询公司麦肯锡资深董事合伙人泽沛达表示:“中国经济增速虽较高点有所放缓,但经济本身——尤其是消费市场——展现出了非凡的韧性。”Zipser said that the growth in the apparel, beauty, and food and beverage segments, the continued expansion of services and experiences, and inflation as a signal of demand strength, all point to "a market that is rebalancing".泽沛达指出,服装、美妆、食品饮料等领域的增长,服务和体验消费的持续扩张,以及作为需求强劲信号的通货膨胀,都表明“市场正在再平衡”。Earlier this month, China allocated a second tranche of 62.5 billion yuan ($9.1 billion) to support its consumer goods trade-in program, and unveiled guidelines to boost service consumption in both established sectors such as elderly and child care, and emerging growth areas including inbound consumption and live performance.本月早些时候,我国提前下达了第二批625亿元人民币消费品以旧换新资金,并发布了促进服务消费的指导意见,涵盖养老托育等成熟领域,以及入境消费、演艺消费等新兴增长点。"New types of consumption, green consumption and services consumption are projected to become long-term engines of growth," said Jeff Wu, vice-chairman of KPMG China.毕马威中国副主席吴旭初表示:“新型消费、绿色消费和服务消费预计将成为长期增长引擎。”Wang Xuekun, head of the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation, said that events like the China International Consumer Products Expo are not just trade fairs; they are designed to help global businesses better resonate with Chinese buyers and translate the country's growing appetite for high-quality goods and services into tangible opportunities. The sixth edition of the Hainan expo will bring together more than 3,400 brands from over 60 countries and regions, with international exhibits accounting for 65 percent of the total. ## There is no AAA to call in the Iowa Caucuses Chris took a trip down memory lane when he shared a story about one particular caucus season which involved Andrew Yang's campaign team, a muddy Iowa road, and a rented Chrysler PT Cruiser. And the sense of camaraderie which resonates with many conservative leaning voters is alive and well in the anecdote. Regardless of political affiliations, be it a staunch Trumper or a Yang Gang supporter, the story showcases the unity and spirit of rural Iowa, where a lending hand is never far away. Through detailed discussions and analysis, they offer compelling insights into current political happenings. Recent episodes have touched on prevalent issues such as an event involving Vivek Ramaswamy, an upcoming potential presidential candidate. They analyze incidents from a unique perspective, dissecting even the little details. For instance, they appreciated Vivek for his patient and empathetic approach toward addressing the concerns raised by a climate change activist. Discussions center around presidential approval ratings in Iowa, the statistical data revealing a higher approval rating for Donald Trump compared to Joe Biden. A hypothetical showdown was contemplated between Trump and Biden, revealing that if an election were conducted today, Trump takes the lead with a favorable nine point difference. Interestingly, discussing an alternative Republican candidate against Biden, the gap broadened to more than 15 points. Their analysis indicates that at this point, another Republican nominee may find stronger support in Iowa A fascinating element was the introduction of a new hypothetical matchup – Donald Trump versus Democrat Gavin Newsom. Shockingly, Newsom fared even worse than Biden in this scenario. Furthermore, the podcasters highlighted that a shift toward independent voters is observable, who currently lean more towards Trump over Newsom. From national politics, their attention drifted towards local government matters. A standout point from this conversation was the widespread misconception among Iowans regarding who's responsible for property tax bills. They pointed out how a whopping 25% of Iowans wrongly held the state government responsible. Puzzlingly, this misunderstanding is more prevalent among Democrats. This has sparked a need for awareness which needs to be carried out, since it's the local government, not the state, that impacts local property taxes. This touches upon another worrying trend: the lack of engagement with local government among Iowans. Considering how little participation there is in city council and county board supervisor meetings, this complacency could be detrimental. Chris and John emphasized the importance of fostering an authentic dialogue through their podcasts. They urged listeners to dive deep into the questions posed and the responses elicited in their discussions. They're not interested in asking leading questions or influencing listener's responses. The podcast highlighted that key concerns among Iowans seem to be the economy, immigration, and property taxes. While there is substantial applause for income tax reform, Iowans echo a deep worry about property taxes. This concern appears rooted in local government expenditure, reinforcing the urgency for being aware and engaged.

Sometimes episodes just naturally find that perfect opposite pairing of subject matter and personality...and this episode of the Happy Hour is NO EXCEPTION. Perpetually unengaged Michael joins newly engaged Anna to discuss a few serious things (like Sweden's new pathway to joining Nato) and a few not so serious things (the World Map depicted in the upcoming movie Barbie). And to be clear, the Barbie movie is super, SUPER serious--just not the geopolitical implications of the crayon map supposedly supporting the controversial One China Policy.

Humanity Forward SHOW NOTES: My guest today is Andrew Yang, the 2020 Democratic presidential candidate and a 2021 candidate for mayor of New York City. Named by President Obama as a Presidential Ambassador of Global Entrepreneurship, he is the founder of Humanity Forward, Venture for America, and the Forward Party. Yang's New York Times bestselling book The War on Normal People helped introduce the idea of universal basic income into the political mainstream. Andrew shares how through practice, he learned to embody particular rules of power to make effective changes in the world. In this episode, you will learn about: The non-profits he started to improve the operation of America's electoral system A brief overview of his career and entrepreneurial background Why he was an accidental presidential candidate What the Forward Party stands for How his background as an Asian American inhibited him from embracing specific rules of power The importance of building a personal brand with a strong social media presence Learning new behaviors to promote himself, which in turn benefits his causes Why apologizing is not always the right thing to do How he re-framed networking to become something enjoyable and rewarding The idea of acting and speaking with power The romantic motivation he had to put himself into the public sphere The athleticism of public speaking Coaching and practice to become stronger, better, and more comfortable Taking the world as it is and maximizing your ability to do good things within it GUEST BIO: Andrew Yang is an entrepreneur, author, philanthropist, non-profit leader, and former 2020 presidential candidate. After working as a lawyer and executive at several early-stage technology companies, Andrew eventually became CEO of an education company that became #1 in the country. He then started a national entrepreneurship non-profit, Venture for America, which worked to empower thousands of young entrepreneurs to bring their dynamism to communities across the country, from New Orleans and Baltimore to Denver and Detroit. Andrew was named a Presidential Ambassador of Entrepreneurship by the White House under the Obama administration and a Champion of Change for his work with Venture for America. Initially dubbed a "longer than long shot" candidate by the New York Times in 2018, Andrew became a top-tier contender for the presidency, raising nearly $40 million in grassroots funding. With a vision to rewrite the rules of the United States economy through a “Freedom Dividend” of $1,000 a month for every American adult, Andrew became one of the most exciting stories in the 2020 race. Andrew's nationwide support, known as the “Yang Gang,” propelled him to seven Democratic primary debates, outlasting six senators, four governors, three members of Congress, two mayors, and one secretary. Following this unexpected run for president, Andrew formed the non-profit Humanity Forward, successfully lobbying Congress for direct cash relief for struggling American families during the pandemic while simultaneously distributing over $8 million directly to struggling families. From his presidential and New York mayoral runs, Andrew has seen first-hand what's preventing our country from getting things done, and he is now directing his energies towards fixing the machinery of our stagnant democracy. With Forward - Notes on the Future of Our Democracy, Andrew lays out the case for a variety of democracy reform measures that can unclog the pipes of our system and realign the incentives of legislators with the wellbeing of the American people. Andrew Yang is the Founder of the Forward Party, 2020 Presidential Candidate, businessman, attorney, lobbyist, and entrepreneur. Yang is best known for being a candidate in the 2020 Democratic Party presidential primaries and the 2021 New York City Democratic mayoral primary. On October 4, 2021, Andrew Yang announced that he was leaving the Democratic Party to become an independent, faulting what he characterized as a system stuck in increasing polarization and saying that he is "more comfortable trying to fix the system than being a part of it". On October 5, Yang founded the Forward Party, a political action committee that seeks to form a political party that will alleviate political polarization and reform the U.S. political and economic systems.|AndrewYang| • Twitter → https://twitter.com/AndrewYang• Website → https://www.andrewyang.com/|CONNECT WITH JAKE|• Instagram → https://www.instagram.com/jakegallen/• Twitter → https://twitter.com/jakegallen_• Facebook → https://www.facebook.com/JakeNGallen• Linkedin → https://www.linkedin.com/in/jake-gall...|FOLLOW AND SUBSCRIBE THE PODCAST|• Website → https://www.jakegallen.com/• Youtube → Subscribe to this page• Apple Podcasts → https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast...• Spotify → https://open.spotify.com/show/7hQdRAz...• Google Podcasts → https://podcasts.google.com/?feed=aHR...• RSS Feed → https://feeds.buzzsprout.com/1005154.rss• Website → https://solo.to/theguestlistpod• Media Host → https://theguestlistpod.buzzsprout.com/#AndrewYang #ForwardParty #PresidentialCandidate

The War On Normal People Is Terrifying and They Should Do Something about it by supporting Universal Basic Income To The People That Need The Support The Most. This Podcast is for our freedom. 1st Priority comes number 1 for all solutions....
Who Is Andrew Yang? Andrew Yang is a businessman, lawyer and philanthropist whose entrepreneurial endeavors led him to found the nonprofit Ventures for America (VFA), which connects young professionals to innovative companies in economically challenged cities. In late 2017, Yang announced his run for the presidency under the slogan "Make America Think Harder" (MATH) along with his defining policy proposal of Universal Basic Income (UBI), which is a supplemental income offered to American adults to prepare them for the economic challenges incurred by artificial intelligence and automation. Prior to suspending his presidential campaign in February 2020, Yang built a strong digital coalition and attracted a base of loyal supporters called the Yang Gang. Andrew would implement the Freedom Dividend, a universal basic income of $1,000/month, $12,000 a year, for every American adult over the age of 18. This is independent of one's work status or any other factor. This would enable all Americans to pay their bills, educate themselves, start businesses, be more creative, stay healthy, relocate for work, spend time with their children, take care of loved ones, and have a real stake in the future.
On this episode of Toppling the Duopoly, host Shawn Griffiths is joined by the leader of the Yang Gang himself, Andrew Yang. Yang is a US business leader, a former Democratic presidential candidate, a former Democratic mayoral candidate in New York City, author of the book "Forward,"and has been featured as a commentator on national media outlets. Now, Yang has founded the Forward Party with a focus on bringing systemic democracy reform to the US political process that will give control back to voters. Griffiths and Yang discuss his decision to leave the Democratic Party, register independent, and form his own political party. They also discuss the short- and long-term goals of the Forward Party, and why he supports reforms like ranked choice voting, open primaries, independent redistricting commissions, and term limits. It's a candid conversation on what's wrong with the way the US conducts its elections, why the duopoly must be toppled, and where the country needs to go to move Forward. Note from the host: Apologies for the occasional choppiness in the audio. There were some brief but sporadic connection issues during the interview. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/toppling-the-duopoly/support
Greg and Kevin share their take on COP26, their visit to The Water Environment Federation's national conference (WEFTEC), Andrew Yang's book tour #YangGang, and discuss topics surrounding stormwater policies. The world of water is a changing place for the better and AquiPor is excited to join the movement!

Andrew Yang failed in his campaigns for president of the United States and mayor of New York City, but that has not stopped him from trying to disrupt the political status quo with a new party, which he has named “Forward.” This time, the candidate known for evangelizing universal basic income, or U.B.I., is championing ideas like open primaries and rank-choice voting (which, incidentally, was the voting system used in the mayoral race he lost). But critics are skeptical that he needs to work outside the two-party system to accomplish these goals. In this conversation, Kara Swisher asks Yang whether the new party is a gimmick to sell books or a real solution to political polarization. She presses him for some self-reflection on his mayoral campaign, and they unpack whether lack of government experience is an asset or a liability. Also, we get an update on the Yang Gang. You can find transcripts (posted midday) and more information for all episodes at nytimes.com/sway, and you can find Kara on Twitter @karaswisher.
