Burnout to Brilliance
#92 - 3 Secrets to Sustainable New Years Resolutions

Burnout to Brilliance

Don't be an asshole When you're setting your new years resolution, don't be an asshole to yourself. If you never went to the gym in 2023, don't set a resolution of 2 hours at the gym every day in 2024. If you're just starting your business, don't set the resolution of $10k months or bust. New years is a powerful time to reflect and set intentions but what resolution would you suggest to your best friend. If she wanted to get in shape maybe you'd recommend going on hiking a few times a month or signing up for a weekly hip hop dance class with the teacher she loves. Or if you're starting a business your resolution could be to learn how to love yourself when you get rejected (because if you didn't already know rejection is a big part of sales and marketing!) My loving resolutions are: Love myself even if I make a mistake Have my own back even if I lose money, hurt someone's feelings or get rejected And trust that the universe loves me and has my back too These resolutions are going to lead to financial growth in my business because the more I do these things for myself, the more I'll be able to put myself out there and unabashedly help my ppl. But they're going to lead to the kind of financial growth I want. If my goal was just $10k months, I could get there by hustling and grinding and hating myself. I'd prefer to love myself towards more cash 2) Heal With every goal, you can hustle your way there or you can heal your way there. So for me, growing my business is my main practical goal or resolution. And I can do that by working harder, getting up earlier, doing a million cold calls and cold DMs.  Or I can do it by noticing that my anxious attachment from childhood gets triggered if a client wants to quit midway through their program. And then I can work on healing that inner child. Validating her rage about her parent who wasn't there when she needed them. Sit with her in her fear. Comfort her. Love her. And then come back to the client situation from a more grounded centred adult place that can see the situation as it is. That the client is making a choice and she's allowed to and to address it from there. When it's so exhausting if a client mentions quitting, unconsciously I don't want too many clients because then I have that cognitive load of what if they quit and I panic. The more I heal the panic, the more I'm willing to attract more clients. 3) Intuition All new years resolutions requires problem solving. If your goal is to go hiking a few times a month but when Sunday morning comes your bed feels extra warm and cozy and you don't actually go, you gotta pivot. So tune into your intuition and ask. I studied my own intuition intensely when I lived at Yasodhara Ashram which is in the Sivananda lineage. What I learned there is to tune into your intuition it can be helpful to take a few deep breaths, meditate or recite a mantra to centre yourself. And then ask your intuition what baby step you could take towards getting in better shape. Maybe the answer is that Sunday mornings are sacred cozy time and so instead you could go for a 20 minute walk in your neighborhood a few evening weeknights every week. Or maybe the response is to ask your best friend to join you on the hike because that'll make it more fun and motivating. How can the teachings of yoga help us to live a life filled with courage? Swami Lalitananda had been appointed as president of Yasodhara Ashram, a yoga retreat and study centre, mere weeks before the community’s most beloved building, the Temple of Light, was destroyed in a fire. In this episode she talks about how the teachings helped the community move through this event and how these teachings can help us bring courage into the workplace, into our relationships and into our everyday life
