Tired of yoga marketing that feels pushy and inauthentic? In this episode, Nyk Danu returns to share her feminine approach to marketing that prioritizes relationships over hustle. If you're a yoga teacher struggling with traditional business tactics that feel "gross" or slimy, this conversation is for you. Nyk reframes common marketing terms from "crushing it" to "overcoming objections" into heart-centered practices that align with your values. In this episode, you'll learn: How to apply feminine energy principles to yoga marketing without sacrificing results Why "overcoming objections" is like unwanted advances (and what to do instead) The seasonal approach to business that replaces constant hustle with sustainable growth How to reframe aggressive marketing "bro" language The circular economy mindset that transforms how yoga teachers think about money When to use masculine energy in your marketing (and when to lean into the feminine) If you're a yoga teacher who wants to grow your business using an anti-hustle marketing approach that feels sustainable and genuine, this episode is for you. Meet Nyk Danu: Nyk Danu is a certified Yoga Therapist, Yin Yoga Teacher Trainer, Yoga business mentor, and host of A Yin Yoga podcast. Nyk lives in the magical city of Victoria on the enchanted Vancouver Island off the west coast of Canada she teaches Therapeutic Yoga to MisFits. Gen Xers (and sometimes Y) who don't feel at home in mainstream Yoga circles: the rebels, underdogs, introverts, neurodiverse, geeks, and bookworms. Nyk has been practicing Yoga since 1998 and teaching since 2004. She has well over 2000 hours of Yoga Teacher Training, including 500 hours with Paul Grilley and an 800-hour Yoga Therapy certification. Her passion for Yin Yoga sparked a deep resonance and curiosity for Traditional Chinese Medicine. This then drew her to study 2300 hours of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Pacific Rim College. Nyk has since combined her Yoga Therapy Training, Yin Yoga Training, and Traditional Chinese Medicine knowledge to create a unique Therapeutic Yin Yoga teacher training program that has gotten rave reviews. Nyk has been helping Yoga teachers flourish in their Yoga Businesses since 2014 both through her one-on-one business mentorship sessions and through her signature group Program: Marketing with Heart Episode Links: Want to support my work?
We have exciting book news! Jo's upcoming book "Eight Limbs of Aerial Yoga" is now available for preorder! As Jo explains with palpable excitement, this book is "a compilation of my life's work in aerial yoga." Her book is structured around Patanjali's Eight Limbs, drawing from interviews with experts, evidence based research and lived experience in a way that honours both tradition and innovation. She candidly shares how "I'd really like my book to kind of help to address some of that lack of in-person community" within the aerial yoga world. For those planning ahead, Jo's Bali retreat is also on the horizon, promising another opportunity to experience her teaching in that magical setting. In this episode we reach out to our podcast community and have some insightful questions from past guests including Jivana Heyman, Cyrille Caille, Dr Esme Dark, Chloe Prendergast, Nada Todorovich, Claire Holloway and Sasha Sigel. One of the most touching aspects of this episode is how Jo reflects on her podcast journey and its unexpected connection to her book writing process. "I do feel like the podcast has really paid me back with the book," she shares, highlighting how the relationships and conversations from the show have enriched her writing in ways she never anticipated. The generosity of their podcast community shines through as they discuss how past guests have become genuine supporters, creating what they describe as "that network of sharing." Many past podcast guests feature in the book, including Jivana Heyman who wrote an beautiful foreword. The conversation takes on a more reflective tone when they explore the delicate balance between teaching and learning in yoga practice. Jo's honest admission that "if I've done a training and I don't teach the things that I've learned in the training, they do not stay in my brain" speaks to a truth many yoga teachers will recognise. This vulnerability around the learning process, combined with their discussion about maintaining humility while teaching, creates space for a really meaningful exploration of what it means to be both student and teacher simultaneously. Their approach feels refreshingly honest in a field that can sometimes feel pressured toward perfectionism. Perhaps the most powerful moment in the episode comes when they tackle the challenging question of how to maintain inner peace while responding to global crises. Rather than offering simple platitudes, they dive into the complexity of staying grounded while remaining engaged with the world's pain. As they put it, "having the tools to find your own inner peace... can help you have the time and space to respond in a way that's thoughtful and kind." This perspective offers a practical framework for anyone struggling to balance personal practice with social responsibility, suggesting that inner work and outer action can actually support each other rather than compete. The episode wraps up with a delightful exploration of their unique work-life setup, running a yoga studio connected to their home. Their discussion about creative freedom - "if it's your own space, you can do more things just for fun that don't necessarily need to be profitable" - reveals the joy they find in their unconventional arrangement. Throughout this entire Q&A, what emerges most clearly is not just their expertise or accomplishments, but their genuine care for their community and their commitment to showing up authentically, even when that means admitting they don't have all the answers.
In today's episode I talk to Eleanor Rutman about:

In this episode, I sat down with international educator Kali Basman to explore the profound terrain of inner coherence. Kali seamlessly bridges Yin Yoga, Buddhist psychology, and Internal Family Systems (IFS), teaching us how to meet our inner 'parts' on the mat. I Really Underestimated Myself This is a podcast with two important messages: 1 – I bet like me you are comparing yourself to someone where the comparisons is complete unfair. And while you are stuck in compare and despair, you are under-valuing and under-estimating the skills, knowledge and experience you do have. 2 – We all should have some form of digital products, some form of scalable, semi-scalable offer, where we can help more people, stop trading all our time for money and experience the joy of making money in your sleep – whoop! After talking to a group of around 50 female entrepreneurs a few weeks ago I realised that I know my stuff when it comes to creating and selling online, digital products. I know how to create a mixed model business, where we get to have human interactions, in-persons offers and have scalable digital products. I know how to create multiple streams of income from your gifts! But if I am honest I never considered myself digital course creator, and sure I've helped many 1:1 and mastermind clients create income this way, in truth I've shied away from it because I'm not one of the big million-dollar course creator players! But I do make online course sales every month – why I am not talking about this more? Because of compare and despair! No more my friend, I am loud and proud saying I absolutely know how to help you make money from a digital offer. Eyes peeled for my October masterclass! The Power Of A Low Cost Offer It's offer season, and like me, lots of service-based businesses and business coaches are tapping into the back-to-school post-summer vibes. Of course, we want to make it clear why people need us and our offer, but I've seen some claims that don't add up, and that certainly don't give the whole picture. I'm sure you've seen it: “I make £40K a month from a $27 offer” – great, that may be true, but they never share ad spend, audience size and conversion rates. “Why sell a £97 course when you can make £3k with one corporate client?”. True, this is a lot easier than selling 31 £97 courses, but nurturing relationships so corporate and 1:1 clients are ready to make higher value long-term commitments happens to no one overnight. The conversation missing is how a low-cost product/offer could work for you and your business. You can build an offer suite that gives people an opportunity to dip their toe in the water with a lower-cost paid offer. I have two £97 courses, I love running, I love the impact they have, and they are the main way I meet my future 1:1 and mastermind clients. There is power in a mini course. Yes, most of us won't be making 5 figures a month from lower-cost courses, but for many, including myself, they make a brilliant foundational offer. A mix model business is a strong business, built out that offer suite your way. Go high, go low and go everywhere in between. Profit Versus Turnover You can tell by the length of today's episode that this is a topic I am passionate about! Yes, I can now claim I am a six-figure business owner, across my two businesses I have passed that magic, dare I say made-up, marker of success. I am proud of the growth in my business. But let me reassure there is a huge difference between turnover and profit and too often these figures are used to mis-sell to people. Promises of formulas to £5K and £10K months, six-figure or multi-six figures business and five figure launches, are not what I am here for. Are the people making these promises talking about how long they've been growing their audiences, how much they have invested in paid ads and how big their team is? Alongside turnover are they discussing profit, tax and VAT? Maybe. But in many instances people are sold a false promise, that may not be realistic for them based on where they are in their business. Not to mention where they are in terms of a financial energetic set point. I know to earn more, I'll also need to work on my ability to receive more money; action alone is not enough. I have to believe it possible. What's the point of scaling to an arbitrary goal that isn't mine if it means I don't run my business how I want to, if I don't live my truth. The real truth here is – you get to decide. More money in your hands is a good thing, over time you will expand to receive more, but the amount you desire will always be unique to you. I'm here to meet you where you are and expand from here. Work with me further. In this encore episode, we explore the mental health benefits of yoga with guest Addie deHilster. Addie, a mindfulness meditation teacher and certified yoga therapist, discusses her work integrating movement modalities like Yin yoga to enhance mindfulness and meditation practices. We discuss how Yin yoga, described as embodied meditation, provides mental health benefits, including stress resilience and improved nervous system regulation. MEET Addie DeHilsterAddie deHilster is a Mindfulness Meditation Teacher and C-IAYT Yoga Therapist. Her passion is teaching movement practices that "unlock" mindfulness skills, and helping students gain traction in their meditation practice so they can be more present in their lives. Yin Yoga is one of the main modalities she practices and teaches, as it is an excellent doorway into embodied meditative stillness. Now based in Vancouver, Washington (USA), she previously owned and operated a community yoga studio in Los Angeles, California, for over five years. A dedicated practitioner of Buddhist Insight Meditation, she has accumulated over four months of silent retreat practice over the years. She is a graduate of the Mindfulness Mentor Training with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach, the InsightLA Mindfulness Facilitator Training, and the 2014-15 Mindfulness Yoga & Meditation Training Program at Spirit Rock Meditation Center, which is a program dedicated to weaving together the wisdom traditions of Hatha Yoga and Buddhist meditation. She has studied Yin Yoga with Bernie Clark, Paul Grilley, and Sarah Powers. Addie is the founder of the Moved to Meditate Class Library, the host of the Moved To Meditate Podcast, and she offers online Yin Yoga Teacher Trainings with a mindful, therapeutic emphasis.Find out more at Move To MeditateUnderstanding Yin YogaMental health benefits of Yin YogaConnect With Me The Yoga Therapy CollectiveYoga Basics: The Therapist's Guide to Integrating Trauma-Informed Yoga into SessionsInstagram: @chris_mcdonald58Facebook: Yoga In The Therapy PodcastJoin the private Facebook Group: Bringing Yoga Into the Therapy RoomTikTok: @YogaChris58Rate, review, and subscribe to this podcast on Apple Podcasts, TuneIn, and SpotifyHow To Build Competence and Confidence in Integrating Yoga Into the Therapy Room
#361 In this episode, Guy introduced Aaron Schultz, to discuss the importance of breaking cycles and stepping into one's true purpose. The conversation covered Aaron's personal journey of awakening, including traumatic childhood experiences and transformative moments such as a Kundalini awakening. Aaron emphasized the role of emotional literacy and self-awareness in healing, particularly for men, and described the impactful work he is doing in Australia to support men's mental health. They also delved into the significance of practices like Yin Yoga, meditation, and Kundalini Yoga in addressing trauma and improving overall well-being. Aaron highlighted his ongoing efforts through the Outback Mind Foundation, including men's meditation circles, retreats, and educational initiatives aimed at reducing domestic violence and promoting mental health. The discussion underscores the potential for individual healing to create a ripple effect, leading to positive change in society. About Aaron: Aaron Schultz is a strong advocate for a preventative approach to men's health. Having overcome his own period of huge self-doubt, crippling anxiety and poor lifestyle behaviours caused by overwork and burnout, Aaron managed to turn his weakness into his strength, becoming a teacher of meditation, yoga and anxiety management education. Aaron now has over 7,000 practical teaching hours, and is the driving force behind establishing The Outback Mind Foundation in regional Queensland, and now it's expansion throughout regional Australia. In this episode of the podcast, I'm talking with Francine Ang about the joys and challenges of teaching yoga and mindful movement during tumultuous times. Francine shares what it's been like leading classes in her community since they were impacted by the recent LA Fires, and we reflect on what it means to find ground through practice. You'll hear about Francine's background growing up in a Chinese Buddhist family in California, and how she ended up spending a year at a monastery in Tibet. We talk about her path to becoming a yoga teacher and how she's now integrating Qigong alongside Yin Yoga and Restorative Yoga. Since many yoga, movement, and meditation teachers these days are grappling with how to hold space in the midst of the current political intensity, divisiveness, exhaustion, and constant uncertainty, we thought it would be useful to discuss our experiences of teaching through other times of change and chaos. We share some guidance and stories, including: The importance of meeting people where they are and giving them space to step back from the noise Acknowledging loss and uncertainty, but also staying open to goodness and beauty How Francine found being in class together following the Eaton Fire was a way to bring back some normalcy Examples like Addie's story of how the Spiral Path Yoga community handled the sudden passing of a teacher/co-owner right after we opened the studio. We also talked about going on retreat, and why we both value the opportunity for more dedicated practice times. Francine makes a useful distinction between retreat as an escape vs. retreat as an experience of arriving, and she shares how being in silent presence with others can be incredibly grounding. This is a conversation with lots of heart, and plenty of laughs! We hope you'll find some steadiness, inspiration, and connection by hanging out with us in this episode. ------------ For more links and resources mentioned in this episode, find the show notes at movedtomeditate.yoga/podcast. DAY SIXTEEN April Mindful Minutes challenge:ORACLE MEDITATIONToday's episode includes an intuitive reading using the Work Your Light oracle deck. Amelia pulls a card, reads the message then sets you up for your 5 minutes of silent meditation. Listen, meditate, or journal. Enjoy! The video version if this episode is on Spotify.BREATHING TIPS FOR THIS MEDITATIONUjjayi pranayama involves breathing through the nose, slightly constricting the back of the throat (the glottis) to create a soft, hissing sound, similar to the sound of the ocean. With the mouth closed inhale through the nostrils then slowly release and exhale through the nostrils. Expand and Release: create space as you expand the belly, lungs and ribcages when you inhale and a release & emptying out when you exhale.CHECK-IN: Before and after each practice I will invite you to check in and rate your stress level from 0 - 5.0 = zero worries/stress5 = feeling like you're going to lose it.Follow along daily for 30 days to create a meditation habit. Start anytime! To experience the cumulative benefits, practice daily, ideally at the same time every day. As each meditation gets longer, you can choose to follow the daily meditation or repeat a previous meditation. Choose what helps you best stick to a daily practice. If a one minute mindfulness practice feels like all you can do right now, then repeat the day one meditation for 30 days in a row. In this week's episode, I'm talking to mi hermana Dominicana, Tiffany Leonardo, a healthcare educator who pivoted from teaching healthcare to teaching self-care. Tiffany tells us all about her career in healthcare, what it was like growing up as a first-gen daughter who was a little different than everyone else, and how she found that her family was living a life of dis-ease after three family members were diagnosed with cancer. Tune into this episode as we laugh, vibe, and unpack everything from sound healing, medical astrology, and of course, being a first-gen Latina navigating it all on her own. Tiffany's extensive time in the operating room has fueled her passion for teaching and deepened her understanding of stress and its detrimental impact on the body. Believing that blossoming as a teacher requires being a devoted student of life, Tiffany has completed various training modalities. Her studies include Katonah Yoga with Mary Dana Abbott, Art of Assisting from Baron Baptiste Yoga, and Anatomy & Asana immersion with Emilie Perz. She has also undergone Breathwork training with Marlize Joubert, intensive Yin Yoga training with Yoga Loft, Qigong with Mark Tanaka, Sound Healing with Susy Markoe Schieffelin, and an apprenticeship in Acupressure and Yoga integration with Hydra Yoga. In essence, Tiffany's dream is to inspire individuals to explore and discover their fullest selves through a deeper connection with their mind and body, no matter the environment. Keep up with Tiffany on their website and Instagram. For all Hella Latin@ updates, follow @hellalatinopodcast on Instagram and connect on LinkedIn. More at odalysjasmine.com.
