A coaching cue, is a reminder to an athlete to execute a movement that they have done more times than they can count without even thinking. The 1,000 Ways to Say the Same Thing Podcast, is just that. A list of helpful cues from those willing to help others accomplish that for themselves. Hosted by m…
It has been the minutiest, minute my friends. But there's no better time than now to pick up what was once most precious to me. It is time to discuss where I have been, and where we are all going! We are back baby! Lightweight baby! I have missed all of you. Sincerely, since November of 2019, right after Thanksgiving. Times have been challenging. New job, new responsibilities, tacked onto the old ones. But like Charlie's mom said, in Charlie in the Chocolate factory, "Nothing goes better with cabbage, than cabbage." Take that analogy whichever way you want. But I am back, and instead of sitting around and playing COD WARZONE all day. I decided to be productive, and do some stuff. So be on the lookout for all the new stuff! Check out those lifting videos on my instagram Any questions? Want to talk? Interested in Coaching? HAPPY THANKSGIVING Y'ALL. I can't stress enough how thankful I am for the opportunity to better myself and at the same time have others learn from it. Today, on this not so special Thanksgiving Special, I go in depth on what Thanksgiving means to me, and I talk about some charitable acts that I have partaken in over the year that have made Thanksgiving all the more special. From everyone here at the 1,000 Ways Studio, we wish you a Happy Thanksgiving, and Happy Holidays. If you spent it with family, spent it alone, or spent it with us, we hope you were filled with the love and affection you deserve. Thank you. None of this would be possible without you. Today, I am joined by two of the best. The $uicidecowboy Santi, and the love of my life, the Ice Queen Bailee. Her name is explained so it doesn't sound so harsh. Today, we talk about being UNCOMMON, and having ACCOUNTABILITY. Look, I know. I know I have been missing for about a month, I appreciate you all for sticking by the show regardless. Now that things are going back to normal, there will be more and more! HAPPY? Accountability is incredibly important when it comes down to your core values, and how you tackle your day to day tasks. You have to sit back and think about what you are doing when no one is looking. Don't be a show pony, be a hard working pony. ONE DAY YOU MAY. Any questions? Want to talk? Interested in Coaching? Hello! The 1,000 Ways Podcast is back after taking about a month off! Today, I speak with my good friend, my brother, one of my mentors Abdul. The man who taught me the Compound Method. The man who got me into podcasting. The man with a plan. Abdul was the very first person that I met when I first went to Coach B's gym, and unbeknownst to me he would soon become one of my very best friends. He has helped teach me the power of GRATITUDE, and CORE VALUES. It has been a very stressful, and eventful month. With competition, training, the daily grind. But we perservere, and come back better! Thank you for sticking around, and for any new listeners: WELCOME! Throughout the rest of 2019, things will get BIG. Things will get EXCITING. Things will get more ________. FILL IT IN. Today, I am joined by a cheerleader, and a coach. A cheerleading coach who is supremely focused on the mental aspect of the sports she is involved in. Many athletes, new athletes especially have a hard time distinguishing the difference between what is wrong, and why things are going wrong. We try to tackle that on todays episode. You may remember her from episode 4, I am joined by Megan once again. It has been a whole 6 months since we last sat one on one, and she has been through a lot of change. She is coaching competitive cheer once again, and she is somehow balancing two different types of training as well, along with work. She definitely talks alot more than I do this episode, she is intensely passionate on the inner game, and she is right to do so, because your responsibilities as a coach aren't limited to what happens physically, but mentally as well. I would also like to thank everyone who has helped me on my journey, and I want to make you all proud. That being said, I would like to repay the favor, and if you guys want technique analysis. Send it to me! I would love to have you help me help you! You guys make me better! Any questions? Want to talk? Most times, when people start to see the results they want, they become complacent. In reality it should be like that Queen song. The song about biting dust. You should be asking yourself what is the next result I want? What is the next result to bite the dust? What is next? Let me ask you some powerful questions, sing songs, and tell stories. I'd like to take a minute and personally thank each and every person who has listened to the show, in some form or another. It means the world to me to know that you all believe in me, or at the same time want to see me fail. Regardless, I love the vibes. By the time you hear this episode, we will have crossed a milestone in the podcast, and I couldn't have done it without you all! I would also like to thank everyone who has helped me on my weightlifting journey, and I intend to make you all proud! That being said, if you guys want technique analysis. Send it to me! The word on the street is, the two weary cousin cowboys have become the $uicidecowboy$. On their way westward, the two took a little detour to the land of Alaska, where they ran into a very emotional Iceberg, who wants to be a comedian. The word of the day is discipline. Not everyone has what it takes to make it out west. Not everyone can embrace their own manifest destiny. We think you can. Join us two $uicidecowboy$ as we ride our Irish Iceberg out west. The difference between BELIEVING and KNOWING, comes from the end result. When you believe, your end game, your goal, your result has the ability to surprise you by going either way. When you know, it won't go the other way. You get the result you came looking for. I yell a couple times in this episode, out of passion. So I would listen to this at 3/4 volume for the first 10 minutes! Thank you for understanding! Any questions? Want to talk? The continuation of our date with the Italian Stallion. We are half-way through discussing the film, and in this episode we will get to the really important moments in the film. We break down the most pivotal moments, like the training montage, the days leading up to the fight, Mickey and Rocky's relationship, and Going the Distance. Once again, I would like to thank everyone that has been so patiently waiting for these episodes. This is just the first movie, and we have 6 more to go. Go the distance, stay hard, and be easy. Here we go! It is the episode that has been promised time and time again. We talk about the man, the myth, the legend. Rocky Balboa. Now, obviously if you haven't seen any Rocky Movies, you definitely should. Me, alongside my guests the other weary cowboy, my cousin who has been on the show before. My pops, the gaucho who has made a small appearance here and there, and the Damsel Megan, who was one of my very first guests. We went so in depth that we had to split this episode into 2 parts. Humility is one of those traits as an athlete, that I tend to forget about the most. Sometimes it is all about me. However, as you grow as a human being, as you take steps forward in life, you recognize the importance to making sure that your pie, is not breaking down. Making sure that your pie is structurally sound. As you build yourself up off the ground. Don't build mountains, out of mounds. Any questions? Want to talk? The Dunning Kruger Effect is a Cognitive Bias that has an effect on novice, moderate, and expert learners. It disrupts a persons ability to give themselves a genuine evaluation of their skills, and ultimately makes it hard to gauge how good you are at something. Here I am talking to you about a cognitive bias about how good people think they are, and I have only been alive for 22 years. Any questions? Want to talk? Anyone with a coughing fetish, you'll love this episode with my dry throat Over the course of the last 2 and a half months, I've gotten a year older, I went to nationals, got some medals. Got ranked in the top ten in the US. I tried getting my life back on track, failed, and I am on the comeback of a lifetime once again. Until, I inevitably crash and burn again. I am getting back into the swing of things. I'm back in the saddle again. Any questions? Want to talk? All of these experiences are my own, and they have molded me, like your life has have molded you. This is my life, and I am trying my damndest to be the hero I needed around when things were at their worst. I can't go back in time, correct anyones mistakes, I can only move forward, and become that hero for myself, and show that if I can do it for myself. You can do it for yourself. Every now and then you find a reason to give up. It could be failure, or circumstance. Depression or anxiety, fear or any other reasons in the slew of reasons life can give you. But we all know that hero, that one person, who no matter how easy it is to just quit. Doesn't. In the end, you need to be that hero for yourself. Now forgive me, in this episode, I just talk about myself. My life, and my experiences with the things that have made me want to quit at one point or another. The things that still weigh heavy on my mind even today. This episode honestly doesn't really come to a cathartic close. I say the word hero a whole bunch. But I do not want anyones pity. My life hasn't ended, and I have more to do now than ever. I am grateful for that. But only from the bad, can we finally be mindful and recognize the good. I have always been a better writer than a speaker. For whoever wants to skip this episode, by all means. I will be back with another one next week. For those who don't skip it, and listen to it: It does get better. I still struggle, I still fail, I still want to sit and be a sad sack. But I have to at one point or another, whip my own butt back into shape. We all have the ability to be the hero. I love all of my parents. My Grandparents. My family. My friends. My team. Most importantly you guys taking the time to be your own heroes. Any questions? Want to talk? Depression and Anxiety run rampant in every day life, they affect everyone. From the people you look up to, to the person looking back at you in the mirror. In this episode I speak to my little brother Santi, him and I have known each other for the better parts of our whole lives. We work together, we are close in age, but we are at the core two different people. But the one common thing that we encounter in our lives, on our journey west, are the snakes on the ground that throw you off of your horse... anxiety, depression, reality, and monotony. Our destinations are different, so are our qualms, as are yours. Us two cowboys, on our journey out west, have found that talking to each other, or someone you love, getting it out in the open, cracking a few jokes, sharing ideas, has had a profound effect on us, this is one of those conversations. If you are struggling with any sort of mental illness, please don't be afraid to get help. Don't let the snakes on the ground throw you from your horse. Thank you for your patience. Things take time, we all know this. But sometimes, you have to purposely slow things down in order to excel at them. The term "Slow is Smooth, Smooth is Fast" is a term that was not only coined by the U.S. Military to teach soldiers how to shoot accurately. But it was a term coined by Coach Burgener to teach weightlifters how to move deliberately. Come find out how to slow things down, here with me, your host, and accountability coach. Any questions? Every now and then, whatever circumstances you may be experiencing will become overwhelming. Whatever way you choose to respond to that, is your choice, but there are only two. Crumble in the face of adversity, or ask for more. Which one are you? Which one was the Greek titan Atlas? Back in the day, the Titans roamed the golden age of the universe, freely, and looking damn cool while they did it. Until one whiny little boy named Zeus, and his brothers decided that enough was enough and decided to end the golden age. Lightning boy decided that because he was boss hoss, that he could give jobs to the retired Titans, and gave old man Atlas the responsibility of holding up the heavens and the earth. Well little lightning bug must have irked Atlas more than normal one day, and he decided to chirp back. That's what we talk about today. Any questions? Want to talk? Life happens, and it definitely happened to me over the last month. I took the time to figure it out and come back hard, or at least as hard as I possibly could in the midst of training, work, and life. Welcome back to the show! I am glad that you're still here with me, and I hope you're just as excited as I am for the rest of the foreseeable future! Back when I first started the show, my goal was 2 long episodes a week. Now it is more. So I hope you enjoy me talking! Today we tackle you, and the question of what you have to do, to become the real you. Love you Any questions? Want to talk? Injuries are going to happen, there is no question about that. Whether the injury is almost snapping your wrist in half, or the psychological injury you get when you fail, there is a certain level of fear-mongering that resides in your mind, heart and soul. Here is my experience on trying to outwit that fear, and finding the "Eye of the Tiger" once again. If what you are passionate about doesn't scare you, you have to ask yourself if what you are doing is the right thing for you. Over the course for the last 6 months, I questioned myself and whether or not I was doing the right thing with my life. I didn't want it anymore, and that's the truth. I was going through the motions and lost my fire, lost my edge, lost my love for the sport. But, there was one thing keeping that hope alive and that was the thought that maybe, one day it would come back. A movie about a boxer. Thank you to everyone who is still listening! I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did living it! Adrian Confronts Rocky: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mn26NOoV_lQ Any questions? Want to talk? Experience is the byproduct of life. If this is the case, the longer the life, the more experience at hand. Not everyone has a reliable stream of experience at their current state in life, but if one thing is for sure, there is almost always someone who does. This is a very special episode for me, it is not every day that you get to sit down across the table from one of the people who almost single handedly cultivated your character. My guest today is my own grandfather, Felix Aguirre, one of the strongest, most commited, loving men. With an almost bull like sense of determination. The man who taught me that hard work, starts with a hard mindset. My Grandfather came over from Mexico early in his life, to ultimately pave the road for a handful of children, and two handfuls of grand children. If there is anything that I learned, it is that: After 70 years of life, he is nothing but happy. I try to find out why. This episode was recorded and filmed outside, so I apologize if there are any annoying barks, or birds! My grandpa also wanted to thank you for your patience with his english! I think it is pretty good! Thank you for your patience, and your listening! Any questions? Want to talk? Comfort is a thing that many people take advantage of. Whether it is comfort in the activities, people, or surroundings you immerse yourself in, or the monotony of every day; it is just as easy to get lost in the sauce of mediocrity, as it is to drown in it. My guest today is another one of my good friends, Corey Goodlett. Our Podcast took place right after episode 6, so please excuse my lack of variety in my outfit. A dedicated, loyal, and courageous man; Corey has spent the last 6 years demonstrating his leadership skills, on the football field, in the weightroom, in his church, and is hoping to demonstrate those skills for his country. However, there was a time that he felt the every day routine he was in was detrimental to his development, so he decided to pick it all up and leave just to figure out what he was made of. In a competition setting, the only person you are truly competing against, is yourself. While it is possible to be your worst critic, and your biggest fan, there's one question you must ask yourself: Are you beating the best version of yourself? Or just an okay version? My guest today is one of my good friends, Austin Richardson. A strong bull-headed man, who helped me start on my journey, before weightlifting. Austin himself, has a very strong athletic track record with a background in Division 1 High School Soccer as Keeper. Once a nationally ranked, all CIF, promising young athlete, Austin decided to hang up his cleats in pursuit of his true passion. Firefighting, a valiant public service that has been his dream since he was a boy. However, it has not been an easy journey for the young man. Thank you for listening! Any questions? Want to talk? Throughout life you are going to deal with difficult people. People who don't believe in you, people who want to see you fail, or simply people who do not care for you. Ask yourself what you can do Today, that those people are not doing, so Tomorrow you can do what those people can't. Bullying is an unfortunate part of life, that at one point or another everyone will go through. Whether it comes from peers, teachers, or parents. It is a crucial event that shows us who we are, who we affiliate ourselves with, and who to trust. But most importantly it shows us that we must be able to trust ourselves in whatever we choose to do. Shoutout to all the Leaders out there. The leaders who are wise enough to dictate what pain is essential and what pain isn't. Mad Respect to all the GOOD teachers out there, the GOOD counselors, the GOOD parents, to the people who say that "that's not true." I don't want pity, I have never wanted it. I just want to show everyone that it's possible as long as you do what other's won't. I love you all. Thank you for listening to this episode. Catch you on Sunday. Any questions? Want to talk? The light at the end of the tunnel is harder to see, especially when your eyes become adjusted to the dark. The name of the game is patience, and trusting yourself regardless of circumstance. In this new segment called "In Between Cues" we take a look at what others are bringing to their own tables, and what cues have stuck with them have along the way. Our guest today, is Megan Ballard, Olympic Weightlifter, Professional Nanny, and once upon a time a Summit World Silver Medallist for Cheer. She is a wonderfully dedicated person, and is incredibly versed in the art of Patience. There were some technical difficulties in the editing process, but they clear up after the first 2 minutes! Competition is an important aspect of every day life. Whether it is competing on a platform, for a job, or for a dream; being a competitor is an essential cue that everyone must endure at one point in their life. However, as easy as it is to win, it is much easier to lose. The difference between winning and losing can be decided in the preparation, the mindset and the will beforehand. But more importantly, in the response to the sting of failure, and disappointment. Do not be a bum. There is no time to be a bum. Any questions? Want to talk? The Compound Theory when applied to every day life is definitely a powerful way of thinking. It helps build consistency, discipline, and accountability, while also opening the door to some real change. Change does not happen automatically overnight, but over the course of time, one small degree of change whether it is positive or negative can lead to new outcomes in life previously unthought of.
