Season 2, Episode 1: "Baby Teeth"

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 2, 2022 74:49

Hey babes! We are here for SEASON 2! This season we are starting with another horror novel (typical) and a lot of shit talking about the one main guy character (also typical). "Baby Teeth" by Zoje Stage is about a 7 year old named Hanna determined to off her mother and keep her father all to herself. While the plot sounds pretty simplistic the author does a dope ass job of discussing: mother-daughter relationships, the complexities of motherhood and chronic illnesses. This is a novel we've both read more than once; it's short, it's sweet, and is it fucked up. Thank you for joining us on our book reading journey! Next pod will be coming out the last Sunday of August and we will be discussing Jennette McCurdy's autobiography "I'm Glad My Mom Died".

Episode 12: "Nightmare Alley"

What's up, Book Bitchettes! In this episode, we dish about the Eyebrow Disaster of 2016, add Toni Collette to our list of stone cold foxes, and try to figure out why Marissa hates British people. Eventually we do get around to discussing Nightmare Alley by William Lindsey Gresham, our chosen novel for this episode and take a deep dive into spiritualism, carnivals, and, strangely enough, Arthur Conan Doyle. We strongly recommend that you image search "Cottingley Fairies" before you start the episode. Obligatory spoiler alert as we do discuss this novel in its entirety as well as an obligatory content warning for animal abuse and alcoholism.

Hello friends and (potential) foes! We are here talking about why this guy Remy fuckin' sucks in this fantastic debut novel, "A Touch of Jen" by Beth Morgan. Please join us for a round of psychedelic horror and what a "bushel" really is. Please note that we discuss the plot pretty thoroughly and therefore there are a number of spoilers but frankly, this novel is so damn wacky that we had to do it. Thank you for the constant support and for listening to our podcast and tune in next time as we discuss "Nightmare Alley" also a movie with the hottie Bradley Cooper aka Brad Coops.

In this episode we're dishing about "The Very Nice Box" (by Laura Blackett and Eve Gleichman), a funny and serious book about romance soured by male entitlement. Along with this novel, we talk about Drew Barrymore, Elizabeth Holmes' Hair, and Denice's Lack of Friends--- which are, in our humble opinion, equally heavy hitting topics. Dedicated to our women and non-men out there, we made sure to rake men over the coals as much as possible so make sure to grab your AirPods and listen to your heart's content. In this episode we are stepping into V.C. Andrews' notorious novel "Flowers in the Attic" and its sequel "Petals on the Wind". It's an equally sexy and skeevy episode in which we discuss the Gothic tradition, the incest scale, and the puberty sweats. With that said, this is an official content note (CN) that we discuss rape and incest in this episode so tread lightly if these are sensitive subjects for you. We recommend, if possible, that you listen to this episode with your sibling. After an unexpected hiatus that was completely unnecessary, we are back and sexier than ever. Take a deep dive with us into Stephen Graham Jones (potential sex symbol), 80's slasher films, and Heather Graham (definite sex symbol). In episode 6, we are talking about biases against Native Americans and comparing two of Jones' most recent novels, "My Heart is a Chainsaw" and "The Only Good Indians". We recommend that this episode be played alongside 80's synth-pop in order to invoke the truest slasher spirit. Resources: @lilnativeboy on IG

All this to say that we are talking about hot priests, demon possession, and that time our friend Aaron watched The Exorcist. Episode 5 talks about a range of sensitive subjects including religion and the mental health system in the 70's so consider this a trigger warning.
