Let's be real—summer can be one of the hardest seasons to stay alcohol-free. Between the barbecues, beach days, boozy vacations, girls' weekends, and pool parties, it can feel like every single event is soaked in rosé, White Claws, and mimosas. After a short hiatus, Daniel and Adam return to the podcast with a hilariously chaotic catch-up session. They open with some behind-the-scenes fumbling, recapping missed recording attempts and technical hiccups. Daniel shares updates on his running schedule, including an upcoming 10K and half-marathon training plans, while also revealing his highly specific obsession with watermelon-lime White Claw. Meanwhile, Adam recounts his recent trip to a podcasting convention in Las Vegas, highlighting the organizational messes and awkward social encounters—including one memorable ticketing blunder and a tearful podcaster meet-and-greet.The pair transition into a tech-flavored discussion, diving into frustrations with Google Home's latest Gemini integration and power consumption myths surrounding AI. Lamont's question sparks a Technology segment, where Daniel offers a mix of insight and exasperation about smart home ecosystems, while Adam laments the uneven Echo upgrade rollout. This leads into a classic "Contact" segment, featuring voicemails from fans weighing in on the death of Pope Francis (spoiler alert: not actually dead), celebrity death guesses, and a question about whether Adam feeds his movers. They close with Dennis's charming inquiry about how the two met, which prompts a retrospective on their early podcasting days and the birth of Pride 48. With laughs, listener love, and a sprinkle of AI soapboxing, the episode is a perfect example of The Gay Mix's irreverent charm and warm rapport.Email: Contact@MixMinusPodcast.comVoice or SMS: 707-613-3284
Hosts Jim Shannon and Todd Ritter, connecting remotely from Colorado and Kentucky respectively, discuss recent happenings in the bourbon world and taste a couple of whiskies. Jim is in Colorado Springs for a Derby party, having flown out of Louisville on Derby Day. He mentions winning an exacta on the Derby race. He is sipping on Woodford Reserve Distiller's Select 90.4 proof, the annual Derby bottle, describing it as a traditional Woodford. He notes that at the Derby party, they were making mint juleps with Evan Williams Bottled-in-Bond, and while not his favorite drink, he partook. He even helped make the simple syrup. Todd is drinking Penelope Architect, the third in their series. It's a straight bourbon whiskey sourced from MGP, finished in French oak staves, bottled at 104 proof, and retails around $65. Todd finds it nice, noting the MGP cherry character and a "funky oak" from the French staves. They discuss Lost Lantern's new monthly subscription service, which recently launched after they had previously speculated about something similar. The service costs $90 a month plus shipping for a different bottle each month, special sign-up bottles, behind-the-scenes stories, exclusive events, virtual tastings, and early access to new releases. News from Buffalo Trace includes an announcement that they are adding an EH Taylor bottled-in-bond to the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection (BTAC). They speculate it will be a well-aged version and note that some EH Taylor bottles already fetch prices similar to BTAC on the secondary market. They express hope that these will be findable, perhaps requiring waiting in line as in past years. Other news includes the release of the new Wild Turkey 8-year 101, which is starting to hit shelves at an MSRP of $49. They note that 8 years is the minimum age, and it could contain older stock. They are looking forward to reviewing it and comparing it to the 70th-anniversary release. Whiskey Thief has released their 2025 Mayday Rye, a 7-year-old, 146 proof (hazmat) rye. It's available at their distillery in Frankfort and their new tasting room in Louisville, and they are now shipping to some states. The hosts praise Whiskey Thief's ryes. Jim mentions an upcoming interview and tour at Law's Whiskey House in Denver during his Colorado trip. He notes Law's has established itself as a pioneer in Colorado whiskey, particularly with their bottled-in-bond and American single malts. Jim's second pour is the 291 Colorado Rye Whiskey finished in Aspen wood staves and maple syrup barrels, the "M" release, at 122 proof. He finds it has a great maple sweetness and notes that 291 whiskies are generally easy to identify due to their unique profile. He mentions his son recently volunteered bottling and labeling at 291, noting things are going well for the distillery. Todd's second pour is Pikesville Straight Rye from Heaven Hill, 110 proof and 6 years old, retailing around $50. He considers it a classic and a great value rye. He recalls being introduced to it during an interview with Bernie Lubbers at the Evan Williams Experience. They briefly discuss the Heaven Hill rye mashbill used for Rittenhouse and Elijah Craig Ryes, noting different proofs and ages. They talk about recent trends, including the rise of ready-to-drink (RTD) cocktails, which are exploding in popularity, especially with younger consumers. They mention that the largest distillery in the US is now producing White Claw. While neither host is personally a big fan of seltzers or most RTDs, they acknowledge the market demand and hope bourbon is well-represented in this category. They also discuss the growing trend of THC-infused beverages, noting that hemp-derived THC under 0.3% by weight is federally legal. They express confusion about the health claims and draw parallels to the initial marketing of vaping as a safe alternative to cigarettes. They mention a recent barrel pick they did at James E. Pepper Distillery in Lexington for Bourbon on the Banks. They tasted three barrels and selected a bourbon, choosing one they felt would appeal more broadly, although they personally favored another with a great nose (vanilla icing, cake batter). They highlight the historical tour at James E. Pepper, discussing the distillery's long history and the role of James E. Pepper's wife. They note they also tried an excellent rye there aged 7-8 years. They discuss the recent move of RD1 Spirits to a new location and Macaulay Minton's Dark Arts moving into the old RD1 space, noting Macaulay's unique tastes and the interesting decor. They mention Sarah Algrim joining Macaulay. Beau Cumberland's Frankfurt Bourbon documentary is highlighted, with an upcoming screening on Friday, June 13th at The Foundry in Frankfurt, kicking off Bourbon Week. The screening is donation-based, with proceeds going to Frankfurt flood victims. Todd is the narrator for the documentary and receives praise from Jim for his narration skills. They hope to make the documentary more widely available in the future. Jim mentions researching a historical Shannon distillery in Shelbyville from the early 1800s. They recommend Beau Cumberland's YouTube page for short interviews and mini-docs on American spirits. Jim concludes by noting the pleasant "chest hug" from the 291 rye and acknowledging the late hour for Todd. Todd mentions a busy day with his son's soccer game. They wrap up the episode, encouraging listeners to find The Bourbon Road on social media and subscribe to the podcast. I had to take the call. When a PR firm reached out to Wine Talks to ask if Gisela Kreplinger would be an appropriate guest...I jumped all over the opportunity. We all have questions about wine as it is discussed in the Bible. Is it hypocratic? DId Noah become drunk? How is wine to be viewed in today's culture? You will be impressed and inspired by the answers from Dr. Gisela Kreplinger. Gisela Kreglinger might just convince you that wine is much more than a mere beverage; it's a divine conversation starter. Imagine taking a sip and feeling not just the intricate flavors but also a brush of the sacred, a whisper from God, as she puts it. In this episode of Wine Talks, Gisela unravels the profound tapestry of wine's role in theology and spirituality. You'll explore how this ancient drink transcends being a symbol to become a tangible blessing, richly woven into the fabric of biblical narratives—from Noah's resilient grape planting to Jesus' miracle at Cana. Gisela takes us on a fascinating journey through history, explaining how wine's spiritual dimension has been celebrated across civilizations yet diminished in modern consumerism. You'll discover the wisdom imbued in the Lord's Supper and how wine functions as a social connector, a medium of storytelling and confession around the table. This episode challenges us to revive an organic kinship with wine, grounded in its ability to evoke memory and emotion—what Gisela calls "holy tipsiness." Join us for this enlightening dialogue, and you're bound to come away seeing that each glass of wine offers a deeper, divine connection waiting to be savored and cherished.
The Dutch KillsTake a walk with me down Fascination Street, as I get to know the Brooklyn based indie rock band The Dutch Kills. In this episode, we chat about how the band got together, and how involved NYU was in the process. The Dutch Kills consists of: Julia (vocals / guitar), Maxine (bass), Alec (guitar), and Heather (drums). We also discuss NYC as a whole, improv, the N train, to Astoria, and some community rehearsal spaces for NYC bands. The members are from all over the US, so we talk about why they left their towns of Fayetteville, Minneapolis, and Wilmington. We do mention Dawson's Creek (Joey & Pacey Forever!), before moving into their actual music. Their debut EP, called The Rot, was released last year, and their new single Cheap Love was released last month. Look for new singles to drop in a month or two but keep tuned to their channels for more updates and tour info. Also, if you have a time machine, go back to last week and check out their several unofficial shows at SXSW in Austin. The band does let me play their newest single Cheap Love, and it's a BANGER!

AENIMA, the 1996 album from progressive metal shamans TOOL, is a progressive, heavy, and atmospheric album loaded with layers and layers of sonic texture that should be enjoyed with headphones to ensure the ideal experience. In short, if Tool is the metal community's Pink Floyd, then AENIMA is most definitely their Dark Side Of The Moon. And as with any prog album of such incredible quality, you must listen to it “front to back”, in its entirety because it's truly a “start to finish” experience. You may recall that we did an album dive of this many, many moons ago, right around the time of the COVID pandemic, during the “B.R.” period. It was a Metal Nerdery two-some, it was done over a Zoom call, it was definitely weird, and it was the only time we ever “did it” with only “two thirds the nerds” (it's episode 38, released April 2, 2020, btw. You've been warned). Always remember to reach “Finger…knuckle…elbow…and shoulder deep inside the borderline” in order to properly clean out and prepare for your upcoming “analectomy”. Prepare to enjoy “The BALLS of satan” (“Und keine eier”), enjoy some reflections regarding ample “shoulder tits” that were shown “at a bar”, and a bunch of assorted “piss hockey snot” associated with “where rich people live (and eat) in Atlanta”. Be advised that “white people rapping is kinda like girls talking about football” and remember that a hilariously, weird threesome is always better than an unfunny, awkward twosome. Happy Turkels to all, enjoy some “Harry Manbackshadowing” reflections, revel in the infinite comedy genius of Bill Hicks and JOIN US as we strive for redemption with a full power threesome and dive “colon deep inside the borderline” with TOOL's AENIMA. Got our first measurable snow yesterday! I thought it would be just some flurries until I woke up this morning & had to brush my truck off before leaving for work. We kicked things off this morning with the Thursday song, and some news about Trump's administration picks, an update on the Laken Riley case, and Jaguar going "woke". In sports, the Bucks got a nice win over the Bulls last night, Week 12 in the NFL kicks off tonight, and Geno Aueriema set the NCAA record for most wins! Played Bob's F'ING song this morning and we also talked to Office Cora about what's happening in the 715 this weekend. Nice story about a 97 year-old cheerleader who got to turn back the clock for a bit, and a guy who got a kidney donation from his mother just celebrated a unique anniversary. Former Logger Chris Sale just became a Cy Young award winner, and ESPN is planning on ending "Around The Horn" in 2025. In other TV news, there's a "Girls Gone Wild" docuseries coming out soon. Bunch of food-related stuff as we get closer to Thanksgiving & Christmas. ICYMI, McDonald's announced the return of the McRib and also introduced a new product! Fireball has a special "slap the bag" stocking for sale, Hidden Valley Ranch has some very special holiday cards for sale this year, and Kraft Mac-N-Cheese has a new flavor just in time for the holidays! We ran down a list of responses to the question: "At a restaurant, what's something that's an automatic, 'I am NOT eating here, we need to leave'?" Interesting story about Adam Schefter and the strangest place he's ever broken a sports story. And during today's "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about someone putting up profane traffic signs in Colorado, an overturned truck in Arizona that spilled thousands of White Claws onto the highway, a lunatic in Virginia who set her friend on fire, and some #FloridaParents who lead by example. We celebrate the final episode of The Spiel with Scott Wampler as co-host with this rowdy chat with our dear friend, podcaster, and advisor to the stars Wynter Mitchell about a top tier Spielberg entry: Catch Me If You Can. This is a special episode in that it is the very first thing we recorded for the show. This was our test run to see if a podcast about Spielberg's movies would work and two hours later we knew we had something cool on our hands. With Scott's passing it's only fitting that every single thing he recorded gets its time in the sun, especially when the chat is as alternately chaotic and insightful as this one turned out to be. Enjoy the chat and tip a can of White Claw for Pop-Pop. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
This week, Jim welcomes Isabelle Sakai–the Global Chief Marketing Officer of Vancouver-based Mark Anthony Brands–to The CMO Podcast. The company was founded in 1972 by Anthony von Mandl. Mr. von Mandl's is a classic entrepreneurial story; at 22, he began selling imported wines out of his car, and now the company–which is still private–is estimated at about $4 billion in revenue. Mark Anthony Brands is best known for its top selling consumer brands, White Claw and Mike's Hard Lemonade, but they have a much larger portfolio, including a variety of higher-end British Columbia wine labels. Isabelle has worked at Mark Anthony for about 16 months in her second CMO role. She was previously the CMO at the Bata Group, a multinational footwear, fashion and accessories company, based in Switzerland. Isabelle and Jim have a shared experience; she spent nearly 18 years at P&G in Europe, whereas Jim spent five of his P&G years in Europe. Open a crisp White Claw, find a seat in the sun, and enjoy a conversation with a professional who loves to move fast.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Emma and Clay have been dating for a little over a year after first meeting each other through friends. Emma tells us that for the most part things have been great, but this past weekend she just got back from a work trip and noticed that Clay had leftover cans of White Claw in his fridge even though he doesn't drink hard seltzer and at the same time it looked like Clay cleaned their bedding even though he has never done it before. Emma is starting to worry that Clay might have tried to cover up that somebody visited him over the weekend and asks for our help to figure out what's going on. We call Clay pretending to send him a free bouquet of flowers and when we ask who Clay wants to send them to, Clay asks if we can send them to his “special friend” Cassie who he has been seeing for the past month. Find out what's really going on in this week's War Of The Roses!

Upon its much hyped debut in 2019, Recess was dubbed by the press as “the Lacroix of CBD.” Founder and CEO Ben Witte has always preferred a different tagline: “the Red Bull of relaxation.” CBD was the fuel for Recess' hot start, but when the beverage industry cooled on the cannabinoid — the result of a challenging regulatory environment — the company turned to another trendy ingredient: magnesium. In 2021, Recess introduced Recess Mood, a new line of sparkling waters infused with magnesium and adaptogens and marketed as modern relaxation beverages. Leading with the tagline of “calm, cool, collected,” the products have become the primary driver of sales of the brand and represent the vision that founder and CEO Ben Witte says he always had for Recess: a platform of beverages intended to help people relax. The company later added Mood powders to the mix, and in 2022 launched a line of zero-proof mocktails that Ben describes as a natural extension of the brand. Recess has emerged from the pivot as a prime-time player that is sold in over 18,000 stores nationally and is one of the best-selling beverage brands on Amazon. It is mentioned and merchandised alongside the likes of high-profile drinks like Olipop, Poppi and Liquid Death. In this episode, Ben talks about how he navigated a shift toward a product mix that realizes his vision of a relaxation beverage platform, how Recess built a thriving online business, how the company utilizes consumer feedback to support its sales and marketing efforts and why it is preparing for a major expansion in brick-and-mortar retail. Show notes: 0:35: Ben Witte, Founder & CEO, Recess – Taste Radio editor Ray Latif recalls his first interview with Ben and the hype around Recess' launch in 2019, before the entrepreneur talks about his reasoning for developing a brand focused on relaxation and how the timing of Recess' launch benefited the brand. He also discusses the strategy of building a digitally native omni channel brand, how a quote from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos helped him realize the importance of patience, and how he identified magnesium as an anchor ingredient for Recess. Ben also explains how the rise of non-alcoholic beer has helped the development of Recess' zero-proof cocktails, how consumers' interactions with consumers has evolved and the brand's communication has changed and how brick-and-mortar success is tied to online advertising. Brands in this episode: Recess, Olipop, Poppi, Liquid Death, White Claw, Athletic Brewing, High Noon, Cutwater, Topo Chico, Kin, Ghia

Islands has a new record out called "What Occurs" and Islands lead singer Nick Thorburn couldn't be more stoked to release it Friday June 21st. Lead singer Nick Thorburn leans against the jet black wall of LA's "Club Zebulon" and languidly sips his White Claw spritzer. "I love the new record. It's called "What Occurs"" he offers, blue eyes piercing through the hazy dimness of the hipster mecca. "But the thing is, I spent dozens of hours on this album, I put my friends on it, we collabed on it, it was a beautiful experience putting it together, but here's the thing - A.I. might do a better job than bands." Nick pours himself into a booth at the back of the bar and slides all the way back, like a greased up newborn, to the booth jukebox, where he shuffles through potential selections with his nimble fingers. "The Doors, Bon Jovi, John Cale, Paula Abdul. All the new music sucks" he sputters as he snaps his fingers for a waiter. "Garcon! I'm about to spill!" The server makes their way over as Nick, like a petulant little puck, pours his White Claw spritzer all over the table. "Want a tip, lady? Don't buy no Brooklyn Bridges!" Nick stands and starts "flossing". "My s$$%t blows all that s%^&t out of the water!" All of Club Zebulon is now looking at Nick. "But me and Jon went on a roadtrip and man... AI might just be better than bandssssss!" Nick gyrates like Weiland at a sock-hop. "... I don't care what Jon says, and how good AI writes songs about the 2 Jons Podcast in many genres, it may be better, but can it do THISSSSSS???? Nick smacks the jukebox with his light blue loafer. "Johnny Be Good" comes to life and Nick starts Twisting! And then all of Zeb starts Twisting! "This is just like Back To The Future! With Doc Brown, Marty and the Mom? Weeeeeeeeeeee!" Nick pulls out copies of What Occurs and starts tossing them out like a frisbee golfer on PCP. "One hundred Twenty One Giga-What-Occurs Martyyyyy!" Islands' What Occurs' 11/10 Perfect Record

[03:12] Thoughts from Paul: Paul shares with us that nothing is static, and everything is constantly changing. The roles we play in life are no exception. You are always changing. There was a time when your identity was an infant, then a child. Paul shares the many identities that he has had over the years and that he no longer identifies as a drinker. Identities of some of the largest beer brands in the history of the world are changing seemingly overnight and they are changing their identities for one reason only. That is because you are changing your identity. White Claw now has an AF option, only because enough customers have changed their identities and are beginning to ask for it and that's the only reason why White Claw has this option. As your identity changes in regard to alcohol, start asking for what your identity craves. Next time you are at a restaurant, ask if they have an AF drink menu or what their options are. It is 100% okay to change your identity to a non-drinker in a seemingly drunk world. Athletic Greens [09:19] Paul introduces Destiny: Destiny is 29 years old; she is married, and they have a three-year-old son and a German Shorthaired Pointer. For work, Destiny is a nurse where she sees a lot of the damage that alcohol can cause. Destiny began drinking in her teens and it progressed from there. She worked in the restaurant industry for almost 10 years while attending nursing school. After graduating and starting to work in the ICU, she spent a lot of her time off drinking. She had her son in May of 2020 and suffered with some postpartum issues. Added to the already stressful ICU, the pandemic was happening, and she got married. Destiny says there was always an excuse to drink, and she often found herself the drunkest person in the room and frequently had blackouts. Destiny would be able to quit for small stretches of time and would attempt forms of moderation. Her husband would mention that she was drinking too much, and she would deflect and shift some blame on the situations around her that she felt called for drinking. A rock-bottom moment for Destiny was when she realized that her marriage was beginning to suffer along with all of her goals in life. She says she would have plans that she wanted to but felt like there was a wall that she kept running into. She pictures the wall as alcohol and everything else was on the other side. Destiny has not gone to AA but says she enjoys reading books, listening to podcasts, and surrounding herself with supportive people who themselves do not drink. She has been spending a lot of time at the gym, she and her husband have started counseling, and she has be going to therapy. When the cravings hit, she plays the tape forward and recalls how things will end if she does decide to drink. Destiny's best sober moment: playing fetch with her dog and her young son. Destiny's parting piece of guidance: if you're thinking about it, you should probably do it. Café RE – promo code OPPORTUNITY waives set up fee.
