Some houses don't reveal their secrets right away. They wait. They listen. They decide when to make themselves known. At first, it was only the usual sounds of an old home—creaks, thumps, and whispers in the walls. But as nights passed, the house began to change. Footsteps echoed in the hallway when everyone was asleep. The attic hatch swayed with no wind. And then came the moment that shattered all sense of safety — a deafening bang from above, followed by weeks of paranormal activity that grew darker by the day. A mother, her children, and something unseen shared that house. The entity didn't just haunt the attic — it followed them long after they moved out. It watched. It whispered names. It left bruises where no hands should have been. This haunted house story from Hazel Park isn't about flickering lights or cold drafts — it's about a spirit that waited patiently to make its presence known. What did it want? Why did it follow them? And what happens when a haunting refuses to stay behind? #trueghoststory #hauntedhouse #paranormalactivity #realhaunting #ghostencounters #scarystory #hauntedattic #poltergeist #supernatural #realghoststoriesonline Love real ghost stories? Is "rotted" cooler slang than "rotten"? How "monotone" can Beat Happening's lead vocalist actually be? How does Christina rate the relative cuteness of Aleka's Attic, River Phoenix's band? Has the time come for a Toy Soldiers remake? Is it acceptable to call Winona Ryder "Noni"? These are but a few of the questions we answer in the June 1991 Pop Culture episode. We also have a few about Alek Keshishian, but he...probably shouldn't listen. You, however? You definitely should. QUICK LINKS

Is it time for you to deal with your stuff? Those negative feelings, emotions and memories that you suppressed, stuffed in a box and put in the attic! It may have felt like life became easier when you did that because you didn't have to face that stuff everyday. But those boxes of stuff in the attic of your mind may be the very things stand between you and the life you want to be living. It's time to clean out your attic!

In this Friday Thinking Talmudist episode on Talmud Bava Metzia 84b, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe explores the extraordinary life and legacy of Rebbe Elazar ben Rebbe Shimon, a sage whose body remained undecayed in his attic for 18–22 years after death due to his unparalleled righteousness—his vessel solely for Torah and mitzvot, not worldly indulgence. The Talmud recounts how his absence as community marshal prevented women from receiving halachic rulings on purity, halting procreation, echoing stories like Rav Moshe Feinstein's eight-year childless period without a mikvah. Rebbe Elazar's wife observed blood when hairs fell and a worm from his ear, which he explained in a dream as minor punishment for once failing to protest slander against Torah scholars, teaching the grave obligation to defend the righteous and halt lashon hara—worse for the listener who enables its spread than the speaker. The narrative highlights Rebbe Elazar's posthumous miracles: a heavenly voice from the attic resolved disputes, interpreted as divine inspiration guiding just settlements; his unburied body protected the city from wild animals; and a serpent guarded his father's cave until burial. Parallels include the Gaon of Vilna's perfectly preserved body and the Chafetz Chaim's gravesite preventing miscarriages, underscoring burial's sanctity over cremation, which denies body-soul reunion at resurrection. Rabbi Wolbe passionately advocates for tahara (purification rites) by the Chevra Kadisha as a profound mitzvah, preparing the deceased for heavenly judgment, and recommends Rabbi Doron Kornbluth's book Cremation or Burial? for spiritual and environmental insights.Ultimately, the Gemara contrasts Rebbe Elazar's humility and self-imposed suffering to spare Jewish pain with Rebbe Shimon ben Gamaliel's self-description as a "lion son of a fox," proving true anavah (humility) among greats like the Bnei Beteira and Yonatan ben Shaul. Rabbi Wolbe ties this to defending Torah scholars amid Israel's yeshiva draft debates—spiritual pillars merit protection like Pharaoh exempted learners—urging pride in Judaism as Rosh Hashanah approaches, crowning Hashem as eternal King with majesty far surpassing earthly royalty._____________The Thinking Talmudist Podcast shares select teachings of Talmud in a fresh, insightful and meaningful way. It is a pleasure to welcome country music singer Adam Warner to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. Country music's breakout artist has learned not to take himself too seriously, and his music gives his audience permission to do the same. With standout releases like “4 Square Miles,” which reached #1 on The Country Network's Video Countdown, and “Semper Fi” featuring Trace Adkins, a tribute to active and former military that was named Independent Country Music Song of the Year, Warner has carved out a place of honor in the genre. His high-energy anthem “Welcome to the South,” even became a game-day staple at Tennessee Titans home games in Nissan Stadium. In 2022, Adam Warner released the acclaimed album What We're Known For, earning rave reviews from the industry. The 12-track project featured fan favorites such as “Catchin' Hell,” “Reason to Redneck,” “One Drunk,” “Split A Beer,” “Lost In A Country Song,” a powerful remake of the classic “Long Haired Country Boy,” and the title track “What We're Known For.” 2023 brought even more momentum, highlighted by the heartfelt re-release of “First Face”, a tribute to Warner's wife, Megan, and their first child, Rivers Paige. In 2024, Warner continued to deliver hits with a steady stream of new singles and milestone performances, including his debut appearances at both CMA Fest and the iconic Country Thunder festival in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin.2025 is already shaping up to be a milestone year for the Nashville authentic country music sensation, marked by the release of his most dynamic project yet. His 12-song album Where I'm Coming From, released in May, features streaming favorites like “The People”, a patriotic salute to everyday Americans, along with “The Farmer,” “Back When,” “Outlaws Baby,” and “Do Country” featuring Nate Kenyon. The project also highlights “Most of This Town” and three distinct versions of “Bridge I'd Love To Burn” – including the original, a club mix, and a mandolin mix featuring rising bluegrass phenom Wyatt Ellis. Having just lit up the stage at Summerfest, up next, fans can expect to see the Marine-turned-country sensation's music philosophy brought to life at The Hoofbeat Festival, the legendary Eddie's Attic in Decatur, GA, and at various clubs, venues, and festivals throughout the United States. On this edition of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Adam Warner spoke about the lessons he learned from sharing the stage with Lee Brice, Rhonda Vincent, and Trace Atkins, performing at the Grand Ole Opry, and sharing the stories behind his most-streamed Spotify songs.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/jake-s-take-with-jacob-elyachar--4112003/support.

A bedroom shouldn't feel unsafe. But for one listener, the converted attic of her childhood home became the stage for a true story that reads like a gothic nightmare. We bring you three encounters — a pale boy in a red shirt standing at the foot of the bed, an invisible weight settling down beside a teenager in the dark, and a midnight visitation that arrived exactly at 2 AM before a beloved nanny passed on. These incidents are told with raw detail and an eerie calm that makes you question what's a dream and what's real. Then the tale turns to animals: ghost cats that return with the weight of memory, and an unforgettable encounter in an English village where a grieving woman kneels over a 19th-century grave — and an Irish wolfhound sits behind her, then vanishes. Local legend whispers of a loyal dog that protected women and died a brutal death; now, some say, it patrols the old cemetery still. Is this residual energy, a protective spirit, or a malevolent attachment? This is real haunting territory: haunted house vibes, pet ghosts, prophetic visitations, and spine-tingling moments that feel like they should be caught on camera but exist only in whispered memory. #TrueStory #RealHaunting #HauntedHouse #GhostBoy #GhostDog #Paranormal #CemeteryGhost #PetGhost #GhostEncounter #SpiritualAttachment #GhostStories #HauntedEngland Love real ghost stories? I'm not sure about you but the heaviness of the world right now has me needing more time for calm and reflection and planning… and in that process of really prioritizing this… I realized the importance of a personal fortress. A space where you can retreat and be alone and do whatever you need to do to reset your mind, revisit your priorities and how you spend your time and mental energy… all of it. I wanted to do a podcast episode on this topic because I think changing our environment changes our headspace and in this way it can be so fulfilling. Today we are diving into planning more peace and calm and clarity in our lives through slowing everything down and spending time in a place that is special to you. Ideas of what this could look like! Home gym Bathtub Desk or writing nook Couch by a window Large closet or wardrobe corner Backyard garden Front porch or balcony Comfy chair with a blanket Yoga mat corner Bed with soft lighting Garage gym or workshop Attic or loft space Basement reading nook Hammock Fireplace area In this episode, we'll explore inspiring ideas and perspectives from thought leaders on how to build your own personal sanctuary and use it to find calm, focus on priorities and recenter. We cover… Why having a personal “fortress” matters in a noisy, stressful world How stepping away creates peace, clarity, and calm The holistic benefits of slowing down: mental, emotional, physical, and relational Avoiding burnout through daily renewal (“sharpening the saw”) Why everyone needs to recharge, introverts and extroverts alike Creative ideas for personal sanctuaries (bath, desk, couch, garden, home gym, and more) How to design your space: calming atmosphere, personalization, clutter-free environment Ways to recharge in your fortress: stillness, journaling, prayer, meditation, yoga, breathwork The importance of unplugging completely Guarding this time fiercely and saying no without guilt How your fortress becomes a secret superpower, helping you return to life refreshed and energized Over time, this refuge becomes your secret superpower. It allows you to meet life's challenges with a calmer mind and a fuller heart, because you know you have a safe place to restore yourself. So design your spaces, embrace the quiet, and enjoy the process of recharging. By making this a habit, you'll not only find more peace and clarity, but also bring your most awesome, energized self to everything you do and everyone you care about. A listener sent some security footage this week of something seriously scary in his house. We also discuss the sale of the Conjuring house and a Bigfoot Calling contest that's coming up in Arkansas. Then we'll dig a little deeper into a discussion that started on one of our Instagram posts, about ghostly figures kids have been seeing in their homes. How Ireland is making homes warmer, cheaper to run, and lower-carbon—at real scale—and what you should actually do first. Ireland's Retrofit Race Ireland set out to decarbonise its housing by upgrading existing homes—insulation first, fossil heating out, heat pumps and other renewables in. Dr. Ciarán Byrne from the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland explains what “retrofit” really means, where the numbers stand, what's working, and how to start your own upgrade without getting overwhelmed. Ireland's Retrofit Race with Dr. Ciarán Byrne “Anything you do in this space is no-regrets work.” Dr. Ciarán Byrne C Dir Why listen to Ireland's Retrofit Race Plain-English retrofit 101: What counts, what doesn't, and why external wall insulation can make a whole street look brand new. Real progress, real targets: Thousands of upgrades each year, with a growing share of homes reaching a strong BER rating. Money + logistics, demystified: Grants that can be netted off your bill, low-cost green loans, and why using registered contractors matters. Old buildings, smart fixes: How “breathable” materials and traditional-home know-how avoid moisture traps in heritage fabric. Myths busted: You usually don't need to move out for a deep retrofit; confusion often comes from bundling retrofits with kitchen or bathroom refits. Ireland's Retrofit Race Pilot Projects Under 1 Minute Snippet Chapters (00:00:00) - What is retrofitting? A home-energy upgrade: insulate the fabric (walls, roof, doors, windows), then swap fossil heat for renewable systems like heat pumps.(00:03:00) - Targets & the clock: Carbon budgets arrive in five-year blocks; scaling now matters because the decade is “back-end loaded.”(00:04:30) - Scorecard: Applications and completions climbing, more homes hitting BER B2, and solid momentum behind insulation-first pathways.(00:09:30) - Scorecard: Applications and completions climbing, more homes hitting BER B2, and solid momentum behind insulation-first pathways.(00:16:00) - The homeowner journey: Make action easy; reduce clicks and complexity; balance demand with trained, inspected, registered contractors.(00:20:00) - Grants that actually move: Faster approvals, one-stop shops that can net off aid, and quality assurance through inspections.(00:30:00) - “Isn't this only for the wealthy?” Attic insulation is often the cheapest, best first step; green finance covers the rest.(00:33:00) - Deep retrofit myths: Staying put vs. moving out—and why people conflate retrofits with other renovations.(00:34:00) - Heritage & physics: Permeable vs. impermeable materials and a growing evidence base for doing old buildings right(00:37:00) - What's next: Optimised construction, off-site panels, digital twins—promising, but still at early stage locally.(00:40:00) - SEAI's role: “The meat in the sandwich”—bridging policy and delivery while simplifying, standardising, consolidating.(00:41:00) - 2026 success looks like… Bigger numbers, smoother customer journeys, and a confident supply chain.(00:42:00) - Final advice: Check your BER and advisory report, explore grants/finance, pick registered contractors, and start now.
Today's True Weird Stuff - Our Lady Of The Attic Blanche Monnier’s story is one of the most chilling true tales from 19th-century France. Once a vibrant young woman from a respected family, Blanche mysteriously vanished—only to be discovered 25 years later, imprisoned in a dark, filthy room by her own mother. Malnourished, covered in filth, and hidden away from the world, Blanche’s shocking ordeal became headline news across Europe, exposing the horrifying secret that had been kept behind closed doors for decades.
