Crossroads Baptist Church has been pursuing God’s greater and we’ve grown from a handful, to a houseful, to now impacting thousands of lives in our city and around the world. We’ve seen God do greater than we could ever do on our own. Join us each week as we dig deeper into God’s word.
We are all worshippers by nature. We are always worshipping something or someone. We worship that which we have identified that is greater than us, that fills us with admiration and is where we will deposit the best of us from our time, resources, our life, and devotion. What or who are we worshipping?
We cannot run away or hide from God. Once we give up our desires, dreams, will and let ourselves be found by that wonderful God, we discover that His intention is not to harm us but to bless us. He formed us even in our mother's womb for His purpose and ordained all our days before we saw the light of day.
Whether you are facing some circumstance or problem, in the midst of a storm, or are experiencing His mercies every day, we must learn to have a thankful heart for God, be filled with joy for His goodness and tell others about God.
Sometimes it doesn't seem worth doing the right thing! When the bad prosper and the good suffer, you may be tempted to doubt God, especially if you are trying to do the right thing! If we are not careful to have the right perspective, we may be tempted to stop doing what is right and try to do what is wrong. When the wicked seem to win, let us submit to God, be content in Him and do what is right, trusting that the Lord will judge righteously.
None of us are really safe until we take refuge in God. Need help? Then Psalm 121 is for you, it is a good psalm to remember and keep in mind and heart as we go through life's journey. It is our prayer that this psalm will help us to put our trust in God's providence and care for our lives.
Psalm 40 is a song about those pits of life. Because David waited intensely on the Lord to rescue him and learned how to wait on the Lord to get him out of the pits of his life. So it is a psalm about what to do when you are in the pit of problems, situations and circumstances.
Where do you go when life hits you with a crisis? Where do you turn when things get tough? How do you pray during a crisis? Many people are not prepared to pray in a crisis. Their prayers are filled with fear and panic, very different from the attitude in prayer that David shows us here in this Psalm 27. What we find is a prayer of absolute confidence in the midst of trial, we can learn from David about how to pray and the attitude we should have in the face of a crisis.
There is something called repentance. Repentance is much more than simply acknowledging wrongdoing; it is a change in thinking and heart that brings a new perspective on God, oneself and the world; it involves turning away from sin and turning to God for forgiveness.
In the midst of difficulties, circumstances and you feel that there is no answer to your prayer, do not stop praying, do not stop worshiping, do not stop looking for the only God who always listens, who is always in control of all things, who always has a hope and who always loves you and has something better.
Psalm 45 is a unique psalm. Most versions express this psalm as a love song. Some versions say that Psalm 45 is a wedding song, according to the title. The marriage described in Psalm 45 is a glorious and grand union. It is full of romance, beauty, majesty, but it is a marriage that will never end. It is destined for eternal glory! Psalm 45 shows us a beautiful picture of Christ and His church.
Listen in as Pastor Daiquan continues the “Summer in the Psalms” series. Ascribe to the Lord, you heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. - Psalm 29:1
In Psalm 1 we have a contrast, a division of direction, a plea for a deeper, more solid and more productive walk with God. The person who has a close walk with God is called Blessed. So how can we make the most of our walk with God? To make the most of our walk with God, we will need to look carefully at which direction we are going.
The only way we can be the people and the kind of church God wants us to be, and the only way we can stand firm, is to have a posture of kneeling in prayer. So, let us pray at all times, let us pray for one another. Let us pray as we bear one another's burdens.
When we put on the spiritual armor of God we are protected for the conflict against evil and the evil one. God has given us a divine armor. It only remains for the believer to put it on, to make proper use of what God has provided. When we do so, we will overcome the attack of the enemy and victory will be certain.
Satan opposes believers in many ways, some of them direct and obvious methods and others are indirect and subtle. The promise in God's Word is that in Christ we can become overcomers rather than victims. Through Christ we can stand against Satan, stand firm and resist him successfully. Through the use of the whole armor of God and the practice of the spiritual disciplines, we find not only protection but victory in this spiritual conflict.
Christianity today has become too comfortable. Christians don't recognize that we are in a spiritual war. A Christian who decides to just be comfortable, have a fun social life, etc. is of no use in the army of God. Not only will he or she suffer the losses of the battle, but also his or her family and the church where they congregate.
Jesus showed the women who sought Him at the tomb that He could give them something more, something better than what they were looking for. Don't let the rocks in life be obstacles to meeting the risen Jesus, our schedules, busyness, activities or demands. Jesus is willing to move the stone for you if you are willing to meet Him.
Whatever our workplace, we all have a boss over us or a worker under us. So whether you are a boss or a worker, a student or a teacher, a leader or someone who serves voluntarily, whatever your position, these verses apply to you and me. And as a Christian, Christian boss or Christian worker, we have a calling from God.
Christ did not die just for us to become great parents or great children. Christ died for us because each one of us, children and parents, have the greatest need, the salvation of our souls. Once He becomes our Lord, we must give control to the Holy Spirit, only then we will become better parents and develop better children.
Marriage is an image of Christ and his church. Jesus and the church are the ultimate reality. Again, as important as marriage is in itself, it points to something greater than itself. Marriage is an image of God and His relationship with His church, so we must follow God's design for marriage.
Paul exhorts us to imitate Christ. Wherever you go be like Christ, whether outside or inside the church, home, work or school, imitate Christ. Be like Christ to such an extent that those around you mistake you for Christ.
God calls us to renounce and put off our old selves. The point is that within us we have already become new creatures in Christ, we have a new identity, but in the flesh and its desires we still struggle with our old way of living. The Christian life is one that is marked by a constant search for the new life in Christ and the continual putting off of our former selves.
How we serve and function according to our design is how we grow in Christ. Our service affects others. When each member is functioning properly within the church, many will see the wonderful image that is called grace, kindness, love, joy, peace and above all they will see Jesus.
If we wish to reach those outside the church, we must be willing to set aside some of our own preferences. We must develop the attitudes Paul speaks of in order to reach the unity that is Christ, and live our lives worthy of the calling God has given us.
It is not just about believing something in an abstract way but becoming that which you believe and God says He has done for you and desires for you, it means that you experience a change in every area of your life. Being a Christian is more than just believing in a set of teachings. It is more than attending church or being a moral person.
God's revealed mystery was that once He put an end to sin by Christ's death on the cross, He would establish a new chosen people, a royal priesthood, a new living temple and a spiritual body called THE CHURCH. Through which He would bestow the responsibility of carrying His message of salvation to the ends of the earth. This new creation is composed of believers from every tongue, tribe and nation.
Our lives are not meant to be isolated. What does it mean to go from being an outsider to being part of God's family. Where do we go from being strangers to God's kingdom to having rights and status as citizens. God's work of giving us a NEW life not only makes us a new person, but also makes us part of a new family.
God's grace has been extended to us through only one means: the cross. Jesus is God's only means of forgiveness and redemption. People want to approach God on his terms, but that will never happen. The cross is God's cure for the cancer of sin and Christ is the only means to have a relationship with God.
Paul's prayer for the Ephesians was that they would truly know and believe these things: that the eyes of their hearts would be enlightened, that they would truly know the hope they have in Christ, the riches and glory of their inheritance, and the power that is theirs in Christ: power over death, over every enemy in heaven and on earth, this power being manifest in the church of Christ even now.
God has already given us everything we needed, need and will ever need, in spiritual and physical life. It all began in heaven, and it all depends and is in Christ. Before the world was created, God had already chosen you and me. God in His love and divine grace chose us to be rescued and to bless us with these spiritual blessings.

This new year begins with putting aside everything that you know is holding you back spiritually, so that you can lead the Christian life the way God wants you to. Otherwise you will end up in December 2022 the same way or worse than you are today. Don't let the things of this world drag you down. Don't look at other people, don't get discouraged, just keep your eyes fixed on Jesus and RUN the race He has set before you until the day you meet Him.
Listen in to hear Pastor Josh Steckel's message on Psalm 33.
Listen in to hear the final message in “The Gift” series.
In the third installment of his message series entitled “The Gift”, Pastor Marcus teaches on the gift of light. That light being the gift that was born on Christmas day, the gift of Jesus Christ, light unto the world. Listen in to this powerful message to hear how to let your light shine.
Jesus didn't come just to make bad people good; He came to give life to those of us who were dead. Our problem is not only the bad things we do, the fundamental problem in our lives is our spiritual death. We don't just need renewal, we need a resurrection. We don't just need Jesus to move us from bad things to good things, we need Jesus to give us new life.
God gives us the gift of hope. The hope He gives us is not simply a wish, or a dream to achieve, or a maybe, but is a state of peace and assurance that what He has promised He will fulfill.
Discouragement is found everywhere, especially when our hope is not in Christ Jesus. Therefore, we must at all times fix our eyes on Him who is Almighty. So that when the storm hits we may find refuge in our Savior.
Depression does not go away automatically. Without Christ in your life you have no power to change your situation or yourself. Christ wants to be a vital part of your life and, if you give Him control, He will help you. Once Christ is a part of your life, ask Him to give you a new purpose and a new meaning to life.
God does not promise us a life without problems, but he does offer us a life without worries, that we experience hope once again. God gives all the grace and mercy we need to have hope every day. We all have daily problems, but as children of God, we also have daily mercies.
God is the father in this story, the one who gave everything to bring you back home. Who ran to you. Who gave up everything for you and who offers to clothe you with power and grace. None of us is beyond the reach of God's grace. No sin is too wicked; no place too far; no misdeed too severe; no shame too great; no corruption too advanced and no sin too foul. He is able to save every last one who comes to Him through Jesus.
Changes do not happen by thinking that you can just change scenery, nor do changes happen by just trying to change with our own strength, and much less do changes happen when we only have a superficial relationship with God. Jesus is the one who has opened the door to the Father's house. He is the one who invites those who have been far away and those who have thought they were close, to have a genuine relationship with the Father.
How can we grow in spiritual maturity and better relationships with others? God caused us to be born again through His Word; however, He never intended for us to remain spiritual children. Therefore, to grow spiritually and in our relationships, starting with God, we must be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.
Bitterness holds your soul in bondage and prevents God's blessings from flowing to you and through you. Forgiveness frees you to experience God's abundant grace and to become a channel of that grace even to those who hurt you.
It's not God's will for marriage to end in divorce. While God allows divorce in limited circumstances, it's not what He wants for any marriage. We must not separate what God has joined together, your marriage was designed by God to be a permanent lifelong commitment.
Most of the trouble we get into in marriage is due to our neglect to read and obey God's instructions. God designed marriage as an illustration to show Himself to us as the Provider, the Sustainer, and the Lord in our relationship with Him.
Pastor Josh finishes the “Leverage” series with his message this week. In this final sermon he calls us into action, to apply all that we've learned in this series and use it to further God's kingdom. Let's get in the game!
Continuing the “Leverage” series, Pastor Marcus teaches on prayer. No matter how long the wait, we trust fully that the Lord will answer our prayers in due time.
If love is the mark of a believer, people who know us should recognize that we are disciples of Christ. Because people who say they love God have love for people. There is no doubt that imitating Jesus includes loving others and loving leads us to serve others. This leads us to show the gospel, because the love we really know is the love we really show.
Pastor Josh teaches on discipleship in this week's sermon in the “Leverage” series.
What kind of worship are we giving? And what kind of worship does God want from you and me? We worship a Living God, and the kind of worship we offer to God says a lot about the idea we have of God. It also says a lot about us. Every follower of Jesus should offer their whole life in worship and service to God, and allow their minds to be transformed to know and live by God's will.
