Guest speaker Pastor Jared Lee returns to BCC to explore David's cry for help in Psalm 40:1–12, reminding us that spiritual growth rarely happens in a straight line. When we find ourselves stuck in the messy, overwhelming middle of life, true growth begins when we stop striving in our own strength and start waiting on God to rescue us. Even when the journey feels unsteady, we can trust that Jesus walks the line with us, exposing our need for His mercy and transforming our hunger for Him.STAY CONNECTED

Psalm 40: Trusting God in The Waiting

Michael Easley Sermons

Summary Waiting is one of the hardest spiritual disciplines, especially when life feels urgent or painful. In this sermon on Psalm 40, Michael Easley walks through David's journey of remembering God's past faithfulness while wrestling with present desperation. David begins by looking back—God heard his cry, lifted him out of the pit, and set him on solid ground. That rescue becomes a testimony, not just for him, but for others who will learn to trust God through it. But the tone shifts. David is back in trouble—surrounded by enemies and overwhelmed by his own sin. Instead of hiding, he acknowledges both. He doesn't minimize evil or excuse his sin; he brings both honestly before God. In the tension, he clings to God's character—trusting that God is compassionate, attentive, and faithful to act. The psalm closes with a paradox: “I waited patiently”… and “Do not delay.” That tension captures the reality of faith. Waiting exposes our dependence and strips away self-reliance until we realize only God can deliver. Dr. Easley challenges believers to remember God's countless past mercies while trusting Him in present uncertainty. Waiting isn't wasted—it's where faith is refined, dependence deepens, and God proves once again that He is worth trusting. Takeaways Waiting reveals our true dependence on God more than any other circumstance. Remembering past deliverance strengthens trust in present trials. God desires a surrendered heart more than religious sacrifice. Honest confession means owning both external struggles and personal sin. A life transformed by God cannot stay silent about His faithfulness. God's character guarantees His compassion, even when His timing feels delayed. To read the Psalms, click here. April 12th, 2026 Pastor Chad McDonald In January 2003, a young man named Terry Drier was in the water twenty hours after his boat had capsized. He gave a valiant effort at survival, although he later confessed he felt certain that he was going to die. After a long while, a helicopter located him and sent word to a ship on its way to the Persian Gulf. The name of the ship was the USS Comforter. This vessel was on its way to do battle and paused to deliver one man. They went out of their way to save one man, and there was a doctor on board who nursed him back to health. Some of you may feel as though you are treading water, and you are not sure how much longer you can hang in there. This weekend, as we turn our attention to Psalm 40, we are reminded of our Deliverer who is always hovering nearby. The God of all comfort will make sure that the comfort we need comes our way. Deuteronomy loosely translated means “second law,” because it's in this book that Moses reviews the Law and the promises of God for a new generation before he, himself, passes away. The former generation has all died because of their iniquity, just as the Lord had sworn, which means that the next generation needs a recap of what has happened so far. In his final words to the nation of Israel, you'll hear Moses give Israel's history of wandering in the same way a pastor might speak to his congregation, pleading with them to trust in the Lord and reminding them of God's faithfulness. We are beginning the book of Leviticus; which basically means, “pertaining to the Levites,” as this book dives deeper into the responsibilities of priests and the divine-human relationship codified on Mount Sinai. The Lord gives Moses instructions for offering different kinds of sacrifices to be made before the Lord, allowing an impure people to be made holy by obedience to a perfect God. We'll look at four kinds of offering today. The burnt offering is given with prayer or praise to seek God's face and favor. The grain offering is generally offered alongside another offering. The fellowship offering emphasizes fellowship with the Lord by having a communion meal. Finally, the sin offering is given to atone for sin that has been committed. Leviticus 1 - 1:00 .  Leviticus 2 - 3:50 .  Leviticus 3 - 7:36 .  Leviticus 4 - 10:23 .  Psalm 40 - 17:04 .  :::Christian Standard Bible translation. All music written and produced by John Burgess Ross.Co-produced by the Christian Standard Bible.facebook.com/commuterbibleinstagram.com/commuter_bibletwitter.com/CommuterPodpatreon.com/commuterbibleadmin@commuterbible.org

The treasures of thy love surmount the pow'r of numbers, speech, and thought. 6 I've learnt, that thou hast not desired off'rings and sacrifice alone; Nor blood of guiltless beasts required for man's transgression to atone. 7 I therefore come--come to fulfil the oracles thy books impart: 8 'Tis my delight to do thy will; thy law 'tis written in my heart. If you find this ministry edifying, please consider making a one-time donation or becoming a regular contributor here: https://trinityconnersville.com/give/To read along, visit: https://ie.dailyoffice1662.com/To sing along with the Brady and Tate Metrical Psalter, visit: https://www.friendsofsabbath.org/cgmusic.com/workshop/newver_frame.htmTo own a Bible, visit: https://www.thomasnelsonbibles.com/product/kjv-center-column-reference-bible-with-apocrypha/To own a hymnal, visit: https://anglicanhousepublishers.org/shop/the-book-of-common-praise-of-the-reformed-episcopal-church/

Daily Morning Prayer (3/2/26) from Trinity Anglican Church (Connersville, IN): Psalms 9-11; Deuteronomy 17; Luke 13; Metrical Psalm 40:1-4, and a brief reading from the Books of Homilies1 I waited meekly for the Lord, till he vouchsafed a kind reply; Who did his gracious ear afford, and heard from heav'n my humble cry. 2 He took me from the dismal pit, when foundered deep in miry clay; On solid ground he placed my feet, and suffered not my steps to stray. 3 The wonders he for me has wrought shall fill my mouth with songs of praise; And others, to his worship brought, to hopes of like deliverance raise, 4 For blessings shall that man reward, who on th' Almighty Lord relies; Who treats the proud with disregard, and hates the hypocrite's disguise.

Today's post is a little different.I had something else planned, but I felt led to share from my personal Bible study this morning.I was reading Psalm 40, and it hit me in a fresh way — because in one Psalm, you see David move through multiple “modes” that many of us recognize:despairbreakthroughworshipboldnessand then… trouble againSo here's what we're going to do:I'm going to read Psalm 40 (NLT)Then I'll walk through the key sections and pull out the lessonsWe'll end with a prayerIf you want to grab your Bible and read alongside me, you can.Psalm 40 (NLT)“I waited patiently for the Lord to help me, and He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground and steadied me as I walked along. He has given me a new song to sing, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what He has done and be amazed. They will put their trust in the Lord…” (Psalm 40:1–3)“Oh, the joys of those who trust the Lord, who have no confidence in the proud or in those who worship idols. O Lord my God, You have performed many wonders for us. Your plans for us are too numerous to list. You have no equal…” (Psalm 40:4–5)“You take no delight in sacrifices or offerings. Now that You have made me listen, I finally understand— You don't require burnt offerings or sin offerings. Then I said, ‘Look, I have come. As is written about me in the Scriptures: I take joy in doing Your will, my God, for Your instructions are written on my heart.'” (Psalm 40:6–8)“I've told all Your people about Your justice. I have not been afraid to speak out, as You, O Lord, well know… I have talked about Your faithfulness and saving power… I have told everyone in the great assembly of Your unfailing love and faithfulness.” (Psalm 40:9–10)“Lord, don't hold back Your tender mercies from me. Let Your unfailing love and faithfulness always protect me. For trouble surrounds me—too many to count… They outnumber the hairs of my head. I have lost all courage.” (Psalm 40:11–12)“Please, Lord, rescue me! Come quickly, Lord, and help me…” (Psalm 40:13)“But may all who search for You be filled with joy and gladness in You. May those who love Your salvation repeatedly shout, ‘The Lord is great!'” (Psalm 40:16)“As for me, since I am poor and needy, let the Lord keep me in His thoughts. You are my Helper and my Savior. O my God, do not delay.” (Psalm 40:17)What Psalm 40 Shows UsPsalm 40 gives us a picture of David experiencing multiple seasons in one Psalm. And honestly… that's what life feels like. There are moments we're strong.Moments we're grateful. Moments we're worshiping. And moments we're pleading again.Let's break it down.Read the rest at: https://open.substack.com/pub/litwithprayer/p/my-help-and-my-deliverer

In this Bible study, Rev. David Buchs leads us through Psalm 40 and into the opening chapters of 1 Samuel, showing how honest confession gives way to joyful proclamation. We see that the Christian witness does not begin with tactics or pressure, but with knowing what God has done for us—and letting that good news overflow naturally to others. This study also traces the sobering collapse of Eli's house and the rise of Samuel, teaching us why sin cannot be managed or reformed, but must be put to death so that God may build something new. The result is both a warning and a comfort: despair closes the door to mercy, but repentance never comes too late.Sunday Bible Study, February 8, 2026– Grace Lutheran Church, Little Rock, ArkansasTaught by Rev. David BuchsKey themes include: • Confessing sin honestly as the doorway to forgiveness • Why sharing the Gospel flows from gratitude, not obligation • Faithful leadership, repentance, and the danger of despair • God tearing down corrupt “houses” to build something new in Christ#BibleStudy #ChristianPodcast #ScriptureStudy #Psalm40 #1Samuel#LawAndGospel #RepentanceAndFaith #LutheranTeaching#GraceLutheranChurch #GraceLutheranLittleRock #LittleRockChurch#ArkansasFaith #MidweekBibleStudy #DavidBuchs
