Watch or listen to Kim Phuc, known around the world as the girl in the 'Napalm Girl' photograph taken during the Vietnam War, being interviewed by veteran journalist Lorna Dueck. In this episode, Kim talks about the impact of being photographed after being caught in a Napalm bomb attack at the age of nine that left her terribly burned. After traversing a long and traumatic road to recovery, Kim discovered Scripture and found hope and healing. She is the founder of The KIM Foundation International, a nonprofit dedicated to providing funds to support the work of international organizations that provide free medical assistance to children who are victims of war, violence, and deprivation.Read the transcript: biblesociety.ca/transcript-scripture-untangled-s10-ep4---Learn more about the Canadian Bible Society: biblesociety.caHelp people hear God speak: biblesociety.ca/donateConnect with us on Instagram: @canadianbiblesocietyThe Bible Course offers a superb overview of the world's best-selling book. Watch the first session and learn more at biblecourse.ca. ---Kim Phuc Phan Thi is known around the world as “The Girl in the Picture.” In 1972, at the age of 9, she was immortalized in a Pulitzer Prize-winning photograph that shows her screaming and running naked down a road in Trang Bang, Vietnam, after having her clothing burned off by napalm. A living symbol of the atrocity of war, she is the founder of The KIM Foundation International, a nonprofit dedicated to providing funds to support the work of international organizations that provide free medical assistance to children who are victims of war, violence, and deprivation. Mrs. Phan Thi has suffered many hardships since that day in 1972 including several years of painful burn therapy, but her spirit has always remained strong. Inspired by the physicians who helped her survive, she decided to become a doctor; but her pre medical studies in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) were interrupted in 1982 when the Vietnamese government removed her from school to act as a “national symbol of the war.” Four years later the government permitted her to continue her studies in Cuba, but health issues put an end to her plans to become a doctor. It was in Cuba that Mrs. Phan Thi met her husband, Toan. They married on September 11, 1992. While on the way back to Havana after their honeymoon in Moscow, the couple defected to Canada during a one-hour layover in Newfoundland, Canada. They now live near Toronto, and Mrs. Phan Thi travels the world as a UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) Goodwill Ambassador for the Culture of Peace. Kim Phuc Phan Thi has received seven honorary doctorate degrees from universities in Canada, Australia, the United States, and Mexico for her efforts to help children and end world conflict. She is an Honorary Member of Kingston Rotary, an Honorary Member of St. Albert Rotary, a Member of the Advisory Board for the Wheelchair Foundation, an Honorary Member of the Canadian Commission for UNESCO, a Member of the Advisory Board of Free Children's Foundation in Canada, and the World Children's Center in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Mrs. Phan Thi is also a recipient of the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal, the 2004 "Order of Ontario,” as well as the International Peace Prize presented in Dresden Germany, February 2019. Kim is the author of Fire Road, her personal memoir, which has been translated into ten languages.

The UL Hospitals Group and HSE Midwest are urging parents to avail of the free nasal spray flu vaccine for children. Children are twice as weekly to catch cases of pneumonia, bronchitis, and brain inflammation than adults from flu, while in the last decade 5,000 minors have been hospitalised as a result. The nasal spray vaccine is free at participating GPs and pharmacies for all children aged 2-12 years and children aged 13-17 who are deemed to be at high risk. Pediatric Respiratory Consultant at the Children's Ark in University Hospital Limerick Dr Daryl Butler says many illnesses can be entirely avoided through the administration of the nasal flu vaccine.

Did you know that not only is it okay to read to your NICU baby, but that it is strongly recommended? In our 25th Podcast episode, I review all of the benefits of reading to your baby while they are in the NICU as well as tips for success! In the first few months of an infant's life, their language and speech areas grow exponentially in their brain. But, for our babies in the NICU, many of them not only miss out on months of intrauterine language exposure that promotes normal development, but they also spend those formative months amongst the stressful NICU environment. So how can we expose our NICU infants to oral language that positively promotes neurodevelopmental outcomes? We need to read to them out loud on a daily basis! NICU infants who have been read to out loud to on a daily basis have shown enhanced language and literacy outcomes at 2 years of age. Plus, for us mothers, our babies know our voice the very best, and research has shown that babies become more alert and exhibit a positive response when they hear their mother talking, singing, or reading out loud. Not only does reading benefit the baby, but it also improves parent-child bonding, promotes parental empowerment, and decreases parental stress. Please tune in to learn all of the benefits of reading out loud to your infant, as well as tips on how to be successful, plus learn about an opportunity to win a FREE set of children's books! Ali continues our LIVEFREE series by exploring the importance of understanding, and fully realising our identity as children of God.
Janet discusses children's crucial need for boundaries and how our authentic responses can free kids up to create and explore. She shares a success story from a parent who says that her son began constantly demanding she draw pictures for him after she "made a rookie mistake” by drawing for him one time. From that moment on, her son became obsessed: “Inside, he’d bring me crayons and paper, and outside, he’d bring me sidewalk chalk and demand drawings.” She quickly realized that she didn’t want to be drawing for him all the time and understood that this was a boundaries issue. Janet describes the common feelings that get in the way of our creating and maintaining boundaries with our children, how to overcome them and why everyone benefits. Idolatry is at the heart of a life that looks to the law instead of the gospel. The law, or any sort of law, attaches us to rules that have a deeper meaning in that laws are designed to arrange our hearts for affection, worship and love. To add laws is to add false worship to the Christian life. These rules are managing for other outcomes than that which God would choose for us.

We are no longer under the custody of the law but we are children of God heirs according to the promise of scripture.
Why has God given us rules? And what is the purpose of the law? How can they help and how can they hurt?
We do not grow in our faith by obeying laws, but by believing the gospel.

Hello there! I'm yoshiislander and you're listening to Vorthos Audio Files, the podcast where I read to you Magic the Gathering stories for your relaxation, while flavoring your knowledge of the multiverse. You've made it to the final installment of the Children of the Nameless series. A huge thank you for listening to this 7-part series. That is no small feat. [CLAPS] Thank you very much. And if you've enjoyed listening this far, you'd probably enjoy playing Magic with yours truly, live on Twitch, Sunday evenings, Pacific Standard Time, @yoshiislander. The last chapter was an unexpected twist! We meet Tacenda's twin sister Willia for the official first time, and turns out she's the one controlling all the Whisperers [DUN DUN DUN]. Looks like Willia is OP too. We lose Crunchgnar, Davriel saves Miss Highwater, and Tacenda, hopefully, saves Davriel. [AFTER ENDING]So we've reached the end of the novel. We made it! Thank you again for listening. What did you think? Loved the ending? Hated it? Wish we have a follow up about Tacenda? Cuz I do. It would be a pleasure to hear your thoughts on the story. And if you like me, you can play Magic the Gathering with me live on Twitch, Sunday evenings, Pacific Standard Time,@yoshiislander.So where are we? We left off with Tacenda getting caught in the man of the manor's room, after an attempt to assassinate him after he killed everyone in Tacenda's village. I think her reaction is fair. But who is the man of the manor, really? Where did he come from? Who is Miss Highwater? What will happen to Tacenda? Heya, I'm yoshiislander and you're listening to Vorthos Audio Files, the podcast where I read to you Magic the Gathering stories for your relaxation, while flavoring your knowledge of the multiverse. You're listening to episode 3 of the Children of the Nameless series. Thanks for being here! If you dig this podcast, you'll probably dig playing Magic the Gathering with me live on Twitch, Sunday evenings, Pacific Standard Time, @yoshiislander. Last episode we left off with Tacenda threatening the man of the manor with inconvenience-- that is, she promised that he would never get another nap again, whether she was dead or alive, she would haunt his life by sending heroes in his direction. Annoying the rest of his existence until she got what she wanted. Reminds me of Dr. Strange and Dormamu. Clash of the multiverses. I'd watch that crossover. I appreciate you being here. If you enjoy this podcast, you'd probably enjoy playing Magic the Gathering with me live on Twitch, Sunday evenings, Pactific Standard Time, @yoshiislander. Last chapter Tacenda, Davriel, and company were attacked by the priory in the Verlasen church. In the skirmish we found out a bit more about how Davriel got his powers via sucking them out of people, and we got to know more about each demon. We also found out Miss Highwater's true demon name, "Voluptara," and she seemed disturbed about it. Why? Moreover, we're learning just how human Davriel truly is-- it seems he really cares about his demons. Interesting. Let's find out what where this leads. Anyway, after borrowing the prioress's ability to sense and anchor spirits, now Davriel is on his way to save his villagers, but for self-motivated intentions. Davriel will be Davriel. Hi, I'm yoshiislander. Thank you so much for giving this podcast a chance and a listen. Where else would you be able to hear a consistently bad British-Austrailian accent attempted by an American and published shamelessly? Anyway, that's actually my point-- I wanted to bring the "reading to your like your parents might have" experience back into your adult life while you were on your commute, or in the comfort of your home, while you build a deck, or get ready for bed. And if you parents never read to you, then I'll be happy to be the one that does. If you like this first installment please feel free to listen to the rest of the story written by the prolific and fantastic fantasy author, Brandon Sanderson, already finished and published under my series titled "Children of the Nameless," and you could find it in the same place you found Vorthos Audio Files. In this episode I interview singer, actor, and author Craig Pomranz. This is a first for the podcast! Until now none of my interviewees has been male. I started this podcast really wanting to give more women a voice. Then Craig approached me and when I read his book I was both charmed and sure that his was also a voice to amplify.Craig has written a wonderful children’s book that tackles our stereotypes around gender roles. In a world where we see evidence of toxic masculinity every day paying attention to how we are engaging with our boys is critical to gender equality, ending the cycle of violence against women, and raising boys who grow up to truly respect women and themselves.Too often the conversation about this happens only among women but that's not going to get it done. To change the dynamic we need men and women on board. If you have children, if you know children, this subject matters.

I talk a good game about respectful parenting and child-directed learning but deep down, I'm a typical Guyanese mother. What does that mean? My friend Nyoka Acevedo and I break it down in this episode. She's a committed educator and passionate Restorative Justice advocate. And, Nyoka is a Puerto Rican mother trying to sift through a lot of historical bullshit that weighs us down. This episode is full of questions. Not a lot of answers. And, a great tip at the end about how to teach your toddler not to scream in your face when they want your attention. Nyoka told me about a great resource for Restorative Justice work here in Oakland! http://rjoyoakland.org/ Another shout out to friend in my head, Akilah Richards, who's raising Free Children and discussing it on her podcast Website me: www.htgawp.com Email me: htgawppodcast@gmail.com Tweet me: @htgawp Rate and review me: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/how-to-get-away-with-parenting/id1084576130
