Fighting Blindness Canada leads the fight against blindness by advancing retinal disease research, education and public awareness.
In addition to being one of the few dedicated low vison optometrists in Canada, Dr. Ana Juricic is an internationally renowned speaker in the field of low vision rehabilitation. Dr. Juricic, also know as Dr. Low Vision, joined us at Vision Quest in Toronto on May 29, 2019 to speak about the ways in which assistive technology can help to maximize a persons remaining vision.
FBC-funded scientist Dr. Mike Sapieha is an associate professor at the University of Montreal. This year, he was the recipient of ARVO’s prestigious Cogan Award, which recognizes an outstanding researcher under the age of 45 who has made significant contributions to vision science. His groundbreaking research investigates the role that gut bacteria plays in the development of wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD). This is an account of his presentation at Fighting Blindness Canada’s Vision Quest Conference in Vancouver on April 27, 2019.
Dr. David Gamm receives funding from Fighting Blindness Canada (FBC) to support his stem cell research that aims to develop a sight-restorative therapy. Dr. Gamm is funded through FBC’s Restore Vision 20/20 Initiative. He is an Associate Professor, Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Dr. Gamm spoke about his work on stem cells at the 2019 Vision Quest in Vancouver.
Dr. Deepa Yoganathan is as Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Vision Sciences at the University of Toronto and is the co-founder of the Toronto Ophthalmological Society. She has a passion for excellence in clinical care that includes education and patient advocacy. Dr. Yoganathan joined us at Vision Quest in Toronto on May 29, 2019, to speak about cutting edge treatments for age-related eye diseases, including age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
