Today we are so excited to have Dr. Nicola Sykes revisit the podcast! She's here to encourage women with a missing period to get the care they need by clearing up some all-too common misunderstandings. Dr. Sykes also shares insights from her article Where AI Gets it Wrong: https://www.noperiodnowwhat.com/post/where-ai-gets-it-wrongHA Studies referenced in the podcast:Amenorrhea-Related Cardiovascular Health (ARCH) study: http://noperiod.info/ARCH - intake questionnairehttps://www.mayo.edu/research/clinical-trials/cls-20538611This study aims to evaluate heart health in young women with missed menstrual periods. It is a non-interventional, observational study that hopes to further understand how young women with Hypothalamic Amenorrhea may be at a greater risk for developing cardiovascular disease through a non-invasive test that assesses blood vessel health. In addition to exploring heart health, the study also aims to measure the patterns of psychosocial stress (patient reported questionnaires), physical activity (Fitbit Versa 4 watch), and caloric nutrition (3-day food diary) that contribute to the development of the condition. Participation involves two in-person visits in a three-month period to Mayo Clinic Florida with a study-provided travel stipend. Registry of Very Early Estrogen Loss and AnovuLation (REVEAL): http://noperiod.info/REVEAL - intake questionnairehttps://www.mayo.edu/research/clinical-trials/cls-20570285This study involves completely remote participation, where we hope to build a registry of women with Hypothalamic Amenorrhea to understand the prevalence, racial and ethnic diversity, underlying causes, risk factors, prognosis, and recurrence of this condition. With a goal of 100,000 women with HA, we hope that the registry reflects the widespread distribution of the condition, and its subsequent need for attention from the medical community. In summary, participation involves a series of online questionnaires and 3-day food diary submissions at Baseline, Month 3, Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, and Year 4. To confirm eligibility, we ask participants to submit bloodwork for review by our expert panel to determine if their hormone levels fall within the range associated with hypothalamic hypoestrogenism. If participants do not have recent bloodwork, we will provide a study-funded at-home fingerstick blood test kit for screening purposes.Apply for coaching w/Cynthia: https://0u8h3wddwmr.typeform.com/StrategyCallDiscover the truth about HA: click the link to download Cynthia's fact sheet that debunks common myths and misinformation! Welcome to the Convo By Design Icon Registry episode for the month of July, 2025. This month's inductee is someone you certainly know, a West Coast design staple and someone with whom I have had a number of conversations. Jeff Andrews first appearance on the show was in 2019 and then again in 2020. Just before the world shut down. Jeff and I spoke form his Legends of LaCienega showroom window in May, 2019. He later appeared on a panel conversation at WestEdge in 2019. The last iteration of the show until 2022. The Convo By Design Icon Registry is presented by Pacific Sales Kitchen and Home, a Best Buy company. Pacific Sales is comprised of long time professionals who love design and architecture as much as you do. Which is why it is so fitting that they present this recognition of some of the worlds greatest design talent every month here on Convo By Design. On the show today, you are going to hear from Jeff again. These were his appearances on the show from 2019. First, you will hear the individual conversation with Jeff from Legends and then, you will hear the conversation form WestEdge. I hope you enjoy hearing these again as much as I enjoy sharing them with you. Jeff, thank you for all you do for the industry and providing such joy through your work. Designer Resources Pacific Sales Kitchen and Home. Where excellence meets expertise. Design Hardware - A stunning and vast collection of jewelry for the home! - Where service meets excellence TimberTech - Real wood beauty without the upkeep This wraps up another episode of the Convo By Design Icon Registry. A celebration and recognition of a true master in the art of design and the mastery of all that encompasses in the pursuit of making better the lives of those he serves. And, giving back along the way. Thank you, Jeff and congratulations. Some of the things I truly enjoyed were the retelling of inspiration that led to his window design at Legends and the Doorbell story. It's the little things, right? Thanks for listening to Convo By Design. Thank you to my partner sponsors, Pacific Sales Kitchen and Home for presenting the Convo By Design Icon Registry and Convo By Design partner sponsors, TimberTech and Design Hardware. And thank you for taking the time to listen. I couldn't do this without you, wouldn't want to. I hope this show helps you stay motivated, inspired and focused so you can rise above the chaos. -CXD
Send us a textCancer has overtaken cardiovascular disease as the leading cause of death in Ireland, yet our mortality rates are falling faster than anywhere else in Europe. What's driving this paradox? Professor Deirdre Murray, Director of the National Cancer Registry of Ireland, pulls back the curtain on how cancer data is transforming healthcare in this country.Every year, the Registry captures data on approximately 24,000 new invasive cancer cases, plus 11,000 skin cancers. While this might sound alarming, Murray explains how this comprehensive collection method actually provides Ireland with more accurate statistics compared to countries that only sample portions of their population. The registry tracks three vital metrics: incidence rates, mortality figures, and survival statistics – all essential for effective cancer control. The conversation takes fascinating turns through Ireland's screening programmes, where cervical screening has already begun reducing cancer incidence, and the revolutionary impact of the HPV vaccine, which is projected to make cervical cancer a rare disease by 2040. Murray dismantles common misconceptions about cancer, explaining why most patients are over 60 despite media portrayals focusing on younger patients, and why early diagnosis remains so crucial: "The earlier you go to get things checked out, the earlier the stage you are diagnosed, the less treatment you're going to need."Perhaps most striking is Murray's revelation about Ireland's technological challenges. Despite being a tech-literate nation, Ireland ranks last among 22 developed countries for health digital policy and data linkages. With over 800 different systems operating across our public health sector alone, the fragmentation prevents the seamless information flow that could transform cancer care. As Murray puts it, "My local Tesco knows more about me than my local hospital does."Whether you're concerned about cancer risk factors, curious about screening programmes, or interested in how data shapes healthcare policy, this episode offers invaluable insights into the present and future of cancer control in Ireland. Listen now to understand the remarkable progress we've made and the challenges that still lie ahead. Thanks for listening! You can watch the full episode on YouTube here.

On this episode, we're zooming out, tracing how nearly four decades of federalism, landmark statutes like the 1984 Sentencing Reform Act, and a public appetite for tougher penalties have pushed federal and state sentencing systems down increasingly different paths. Those contrasts aren't just academic; they reveal the collective choices we've made, sometimes consciously, sometimes in...

Hey Diabuddy thank you for listening to show, send me some positive vibes with your favorite part of this episode. In today's episode, I sit down with Ali Dugger. Ali is a T1D who was diagnosed at 18. She came from a family that had to learn about Diabetes earlier, as her brother is also Type 1. The cool thing about Ali's story is that her mom knew that no one would educate them, so she took it upon herself to go back to school, get her master's, and become a Diabetes Educator. But that didn't entirely help Ali as she rebelled against Diabetes at the early stages of her journey. So later on in life, she experienced Diabetes complications. This story is powerful because, despite her complications, she now lives a great life and has a positive outlook for the rest of her life. You might not be able to say this about many others who have experienced complications like she did. How's your weeK? If its anything like every week of 2025 so far, you are probably exhausted from all of the chaos in the world and the industry. But for the next hour or so, take a break and listen to someone who I am absolutely sure will calm you and help get you focused for what's next. This is the Convo By Design Icon Registry for May 2025 featuring a remarkable creative who has appeared on the show not once, but twice. During her first appearance in February 2019, here is what I had to say about this months inductee, Joan Behnke… “Joan Behnke founded her namesake design studio in 1999. Since then, she has been trailblazing a path studded with interior design gems from LA to DC. Joan views interior design as a fine art and an exercise in self-expression. It's both intimate and created for the world to see based on the unique personality of its inhabitant. Designer Resources Pacific Sales Kitchen and Home. Where excellence meets expertise. Design Hardware - A stunning and vast collection of jewelry for the home! - Where service meets excellence TimberTech - Real wood beauty without the upkeep I met Joan at her studio and we sat for quite a while. She is in a really good place. The firm has enjoyed international recognition and while that is important, she has built her firm on her own ideas of what makes the work, good and worthy. I enjoyed my time with Joan, she is soft spoken but her words have tremendous impact and she is fierce in her ideas about design and the personal nature by which she connects it to her clients. We talked about exquisite craftsmanship and lasting beauty, both of which are key elements to her design philosophy. This is Joan Behnke.” I vividly remember sitting with Joan in the conference room of her studio. Joan is soft spoken, disarming and intentional. I read a quote from her years prior in an article from Forbes that resonated with me then and has stayed with me some six years after our first meeting. The quote was, “ I don't want my clients to just own a personalized piece for their home; I want them to experience it.” This could mean a chandelier, work of art, furnishings but it stems form a broader philosophy that the home itself is to be experienced as a part of their lives and not simply a box one lives in regardless of how expensive or lavish that box might be. That quote in Forbes was from 2013, a full 7 years before the pandemic and an instant rush to find experiential fulfillment in spaces. And it's not meant for just the uber-wealthy. Joan's philosophical approach to design can be applied to any budget, any style and any locale. I think to explore her thoughts and ideas puts those in the industry in an interesting place, one that can lead to exploration of client needs and desires, removing the hype and finding the true essence of what the client needs. Then a talent like Joan can ignore the tariffs, the supply chain and use her exceptional skills to work with what she has available to her. I would love to see what Joan could create with nothing more that flea market finds, big box close-outs and garage sale treasures. I might have to put something like that together, but that is for another day. Today, we are celebrating Joan Behnke, our latest addition to the Convo By Design Icon Registry. And were doing it by looking back to my first conversation with Joan from 2019. Right after this from the presenting sponsor of the Convo By Design Icon Registry, Pacific Sales Kitchen and Home. Congratulations Joan on your enshrinement into the Convo By Design Icon Registry and thank you for your calm reassurance and impeccable application of skill. Thank you for taking the time to speak with me and sharing your story. Thank you to my incredible partner sponsors; TimberTech, Design Hardware and to the Convo By Design Icon Registry presenting partner, Pacific Sales for your dedication to making our industry better, faster, stronger!

Lauren welcomes Mary Charlton to the podcast to discuss the Iowa Cancer Registry's "99 Counties" project. The "Cancer in Iowa 99 Counties" project aims to educate Iowans about the high cancer rates in the state, the types of cancer driving these rates, and risk factors that can be addressed through policy and community action Iowa has the second-highest cancer incidence rate in the U.S., with the most common cancers being breast, prostate, lung, colorectal, and melanoma The project involves creating detailed reports on cancer trends and risk factors for each of Iowa's 99 counties, which are presented to local public health officials and community members to spur action Key findings include geographic patterns in different cancer types (e.g. higher lung cancer in southern Iowa, higher melanoma in northern Iowa), highlighting the complex, multifactorial nature of cancer The goal is to empower Iowans to advocate for evidence-based policies (e.g. tobacco tax increases) and community initiatives to reduce the cancer burden in the state.
