In this episode of The 20/20 Podcast, Dr. Harbir Sian sits down with MaryAnn Klassen, a long-time leader in the eye care industry whose career has closely mirrored — and influenced — some of optometry's most significant clinical shifts over the past four decades.MaryAnn takes listeners through her journey from the early days of contact lenses, when extended-wear lenses first disrupted traditional practice models, to the evolution of AMD management, and ultimately to today's rapidly expanding understanding of dry eye disease. Having worked with major industry players such as CIBA Vision, Novartis Ophthalmics, and Bausch + Lomb, she offers a rare, behind-the-scenes perspective on how optometrists adapt to change — and what it takes for new ideas to gain traction in a profession that values evidence and patient safety above all else. The conversation then turns to MaryAnn's entrepreneurial leap: the creation of the Meivertor, a patented medical device designed to make upper eyelid eversion easier, safer, and more efficient. Sparked by a real clinical frustration she experienced firsthand, MaryAnn shares how the idea moved from a simple observation to a globally patented product now used in practices around the world. She walks through the realities of device development, including prototyping, patenting, workflow challenges, and the often-overlooked importance of technician confidence and training.Beyond the device itself, this episode explores bigger themes — innovation in optometry, behavior change in clinics, empowerment of staff, and the mindset required to build something meaningful while still working full-time. It's a candid, insightful conversation that blends clinical relevance with business wisdom and personal reflection.Key TakeawaysOptometry evolves when evidence supports change — history proves it repeatedlyThe upper eyelid contains critical diagnostic information that is often overlookedSmall workflow improvements can create outsized clinical and efficiency gainsEmpowering technicians improves diagnostics, confidence, and job satisfactionSuccessful innovation requires persistence, clarity, and hard work — not luckMemorable Quotes“Optometry continually has to evolve — and it does when the evidence supports the shift.”“There has to be a single-handed solution to this problem.”“The upper lids matter.”“If you give optometrists a legitimate reason and support it clinically, they will adopt it.”“I don't believe in luck. Nvidia (NVDA), Tesla (TSLA), and Netflix (NFLX) were among other top buys. Joe does note a theme of "selling into strength" for January with top sells including AMD Inc. The Six Five Pod is back with Episode 291. Daniel Newman and Patrick Moorhead are fresh off trips to Davos and Abu Dhabi, where they've explored the full AI stack up close (models, infrastructure, healthcare/genomics). This episode dives into what really matters right now in the markets and tech. From Microsoft's Maia 200 inference push, to NVIDIA's $2B CoreWeave bet, OpenAI's Codex closing the coding gap, the "SaaSpocalypse" panic, Cisco's AI Summit, and a no-BS debate on whether AI agents are actually enterprise-ready. The handpicked topics for this week are: Inside Abu Dhabi's Full-Stack AI Play: From universities to healthcare to hyperscale infrastructure — Pat shares a firsthand perspective on how the UAE is quietly building an end-to-end AI ecosystem. Optics, Cooling, and the Hidden AI Infrastructure Layer: Why companies like Coherent matter as much as GPUs — and how photonics, co-packaged optics, and rack-level cooling are becoming critical to scaling AI factories. Inference Takes Center Stage: Microsoft's Maia 200 shows real progress — and why hyperscalers are building custom silicon to boost capacity, economics, and control. NVIDIA's $2B CoreWeave Bet Circular finance or strategic genius? We unpack what NVIDIA's latest investment signals about AI factories, cloud capacity, and long-term infrastructure buildout. Codex vs. Claude: The Coding Wars Heat Up: OpenAI closes the gap fast — and developers start hopping between tools as AI coding becomes a moving target. The "SaaSpocalypse" Narrative: Is software really dead? We separate market panic from reality — and explain why SaaS won't disappear, but will never be valued the same again. Cisco's AI Summit Reality Check: From hype to execution: what stood out from Cisco's AI Summit and why networking, security, and enterprise integration matter more than demos. Are AI Agents Enterprise-Ready? The Flip Debates: real-world workflows vs. reliability, governance, and security — where agents work today, and where they still fall short. Big Tech Earnings Whiplash: AWS, Google, Microsoft, Meta, NVIDIA, AMD, Palantir, and Coherent — massive CapEx, cloud acceleration, and what Wall Street is getting wrong about AI ROI.   Be sure to subscribe to The Six Five Pod so you never miss an episode.

Defining Duke: An Xbox Podcast

Xbox's marketing beat for 2025 was "The Year Of Obsidian Entertainment." Frankly, it made sense. No matter how you feel about the quality of these games, the fact that this team shipped Avowed, Outer Worlds 2, and Grounded 2 all within a calendar year (while many other teams within the first party fold continue to stumble around) was worthy of all the praise. Well, Obsidian has some thoughts on that marketing tagline. Indeed of it being a rallying cry, Obsidian's own Josh Sawyer defined as a "sign that something went wrong." Both Avowed and Outer Worlds 2 were in development for over six years and the result is that both these games failed to meet financial expectations. What lessons can they learn after shipping so many games? What can they do to cut development costs? What games should they make to meet Xbox's new profit margins? Part of the solution to the team at Obsidian is Avowed 2, but it's anyone's guess what lies beyond that. Thanks to a transparent conversation with Obsidian, the Dukes now dig into the company with this new perspective. In this Breaking Analysis we squint through the statements made by company managements on this week's earnings calls, including what we see as some assumptions that conflict with our scenario for how the AI buildout will evolve. In particular, while operators are understandably focused on Nvidia's gross margins, we believe observers are underestimating the cost advantages that Nvidia will have relative to GPU alternatives, including those from AMD, Intel and hyperscalers.

Markets are deep in risk-off mode as crypto winter tightens its grip. The ECB and Bank of England both held rates, with the BoE signaling it may be nearing the end of its easing cycle. UK political turmoil hit the pound, while tech stocks continued to unravel — AMD plunged 17%, Qualcomm disappointed, and Alphabet slid after announcing a massive increase in AI spending. Precious metals saw extreme volatility again, with silver crashing 15%, gold slipping, and oil falling after the U.S. and Iran agreed to hold talks. In macro data, German factory orders surged, but Eurozone retail sales fell, raising concerns about consumer demand. In crypto, Bitcoin dropped to $69,000, pushing the market back into Extreme Fear. Bhutan appears to be selling BTC it has mined since 2019, ETH hovered near $2,000, and scrutiny intensified around Trump-linked World Liberty Financial. CME also hinted it may explore issuing its own token.

Markets have been chaotic over the past few sessions, so we pivot to a mostly-news episode to unpack what’s really driving the volatility. We start with “SaaSmageddon” — the sharp selloff across software stocks following rapid advances in AI, including Claude’s new capabilities. We discuss why investors are suddenly questioning data-driven moats, seat-based subscription models, and whether traditional SaaS businesses can defend their margins in a world where AI agents can replace large portions of knowledge work. From there, we connect the dots to private credit and private equity. With software making up a major portion of many private portfolios, we explore the growing risks around payment-in-kind lending, potential default cycles, and why business development companies (BDCs) could be the next pressure point if AI disruption accelerates. We also cover the historic gold and silver flush — a classic leveraged shakeout driven by forced liquidations, stop-loss cascades, and thin liquidity — and why ETF volumes exploded during the move. Finally, we touch on broader market weakness, AMD’s earnings reaction, and how Bitcoin continues to trade like a high-beta risk asset. Tickers of Stocks Discussed: TRI.TO, ADBE, CRM, SHOP.TO, SPGI, MCO, ARCC, OWL, OBDC, BXSL, MAIN, FSK, SLV, GLD, SPY, AMD Watch the full video on Our New Youtube Channel! Dylan Patel (SemiAnalysis) joins Matt Turck for a deep dive into the AI chip wars — why NVIDIA is shifting from a “one chip can do it all” worldview to a portfolio strategy, how inference is getting specialized, and what that means for CUDA, AMD, and the next wave of specialized silicon startups. Then we take the fun tangents: why China is effectively “semiconductor pilled,” how provinces push domestic chips, what Huawei means as a long-term threat vector, and why so much “AI is killing the grid / AI is drinking all the water” discourse misses the point. We also tackle the big macro question: capex bubble or inevitable buildout? Dylan's view is that the entire answer hinges on one variable—continued model progress—and we unpack the second-order effects across data centers, power, and the circular-looking financings (CoreWeave/Oracle/backstops).Dylan PatelLinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/dylanpatelsa/X/Twitter - https://x.com/dylan522pSemiAnalysisWebsite - https://semianalysis.comX/Twitter - https://x.com/SemiAnalysis_Matt Turck (Managing Director)Blog - https://mattturck.comLinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/turck/X/Twitter - https://twitter.com/mattturckFirstMarkWebsite - https://firstmark.comX/Twitter - https://twitter.com/FirstMarkCap(00:00) - Intro(01:16) - Nvidia acquires Groq: A pivot to specialization(07:09) - Why AI models might need "wide" compute, not just fast(10:06) - Is the CUDA moat dead?
