Proposed Amendment L protects the South Dakota Constitution and South Dakota citizens by requiring a 60% vote to change the Constitution. All other measures remain unchanged. Amendment L was placed on the ballot by the South Dakota Legislature during the 2025 session as House Joint Resolution 5003. Republican megadonor Timothy Mellon is withholding donations from Senate Republicans after the chamber failed to pass the SAVE America Act, according to The New York Times. Mellon, 84, reportedly responded to a fundraising solicitation letter by saying his pockets were closed. The billionaire previously gave $30 million to the Senate Leadership Fund, the super PAC that backs Republican Senate candidates, in 2020. Allies of Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) have tried since last year to arrange a meeting between the two men, but it never happened, according to the report. Reporters from CNN, MS NOW, and Politico on Saturday said they were denied access to White House grounds after President Trump announced a ban on the three media outlets. Trump said in a Truth Social post on Friday he was banning these outlets from the White House, citing negative coverage of his administration and saying media outlets shouldn't be able to constantly report "FICTION and LIES" when they cover the president of the United States.
