One would think that the church would be a safe place - a body of people claiming to follow Jesus, who, himself, was an emotionally safe and accepting kind of Savior! Challenging at times (yes), but He was always filled with grace and compassion and a love so contagious that people could not help but be drawn to Him. What happens when we experience just the opposite? Church trauma is real and hopefully you have not experienced the shame and manipulation that both Taylor and Devin reveal in their very honest stories. But don't be dismayed friends; hope awaits.
"Hey, Jesus, could you please pass the A.1. sauce?" Imagine having this type of confidence during a conversation at a steak dinner that Jesus invited you to IN FRONT of your enemies. When I say "pull up a seat, there's no reservation needed" every week... I mean it. And so does He.
It's Easter morning 2000 years ago and Jesus is nowhere to be found! What if what he said was true, that on the 3rd day he would wake from death? Shouldn't there be a great celebration? Well, take off your Easter bonnet and put that basket full of eggs down - the only thing happening that first Easter morning was confusion, chaos and disbelief. But then a familiar voice whispers a name, and everything changes! And that same voice, friends, calls to you and I today. Jesus is alive and HE is the GOOD NEWS!
As this episode falls on Palm Sunday, we wanted to take a look at Jesus' journey as He prepares for His ultimate fate that lie ahead. (?) (grammar is hard). Jesus could have done alot with his limited amount of time left, but He decides what was most important was to go to spend time with His people. We see Jesus visiting Lazarus and we can only imagine it was for one simple reason.. to be able to find comfort in the the words, "Me too."
On today's menu, Jesus is offering a big ol' slice of humble pie! Why? Because it's not in our nature to put others ahead of ourselves. As Jesus-followers in our toxic 'me-oriented' culture, we are called to live differently and remember his words: "All those who lift themselves up will be made humble. And those who make themselves humble will be lifted up.” When it comes to this kind of pie...why not have seconds!
In this piece of scripture we find a woman who is desperate for healing and Midol.. Aren't we all, ladies? Tune in to see how it was her faith and courage that ended up being her prescription.
February of 2023 will long be remembered for the revival that could not be stopped in Wilmore, Kentucky! In this episode, Julie interviews her son-in-law, Jacob Wilson, as he provides insight into what he experienced during that amazing time of worship!

As we approach the season of Lent, we want to take a deep dive into Jesus' time spent in the wilderness. We look at what it means to either be tested or tempted, and we admire how Jesus had to repeatedly choose the type of savior He was going to be- one full of selfless love.... even when "hangry". Eugene Peterson's translation of John 1:14 says "The Word became flesh and blood and moved into the neighborhood." I (Julie) have a confession: I often judge people before I get to know them. I know, I know...it's a bad habit! In fact, before Devin and I became friends, I formed some quick assumptions about her! We can laugh about it today, but I recognize it's a terrible habit born out of my own insecurities. I've done the same thing with God; we all have. Today's episode will challenge you to drop your misconceptions and embrace the truth of God's love for you. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
It was an encounter that never should have happened. Jesus meets a Samaritan woman with an ugly past and makes her an offer she cannot refuse. “The line at Starbucks is short today! #coffee #BLESSED.” Sound familiar? The “blessed” sentiment is found everywhere from Hobby Lobby to Instagram. Whether used as self-promotion or a sincere expression of gratitude, it feels like the overuse of the term has stripped it of the meaning Jesus intended. What if being blessed is just as much about ‘bad' fortune than good? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
