It's Thanksgiving, and the plan is for everyone to gather at Grams's house -- even Pacey, since his family eats later, presumably because everyone hopes his dad gets drunk enough to sleep through it? Gale is living in the Leery guest room while she, and somehow not Mitch, looks for an apartment; Dawson is suspicious of how pleasantly they're getting along. Joey is missing her poor dead mom today more than usual. Andie's plan is to make dinner for Jack and her dad, but then Joseph gets stuck in Chicago so they have to come to Grams's too so that Andie can be weird around Pacey. Only Jen is really having a great day and looking forward to fooling around with Pacey later, per their new FWB arrangement...so it's too bad for her when she opens her bedroom door and sees her mother Helen (Mel Harris!) standing there. What does Dawson do with his secret knowledge of Helen's past? How much does Joey bum everyone out with her orphan-osity? Do Jen and Pacey ever manage to bone??? We hope YOU will be our guest for our episode on "Guess Who's Coming To Dinner"! JOIN THE AWT CLUB

EPISODE 66 - “WHEN CLASSIC FILM'S SUPPORTING ACTORS STEAL THE SHOW” - 12/16/2024 There is nothing quite like watching a film when suddenly a supporting character comes in and walks away with the film. (Think THELMA RITTER, S.Z. SAKALL, or GALE SONDERGAARD in almost every one of their films!) This week we are focusing on some of our favorite supporting charters who come in and snatch that scene right about from under the big stars. From JOANNA BARNES' Gloria Upson declaring, “It was just ghastly!” in “Auntie Mame” to the impassioned monologue about love that BEAH RICHARDS delivers to SPENCER TRACY in “Guess Who's Coming To Dinner,” we take a fun look at these powerful performances that we're still talking about today. SHOW NOTES: Sources: The Life and Death of Peter Sellers (1997) by Roger Lewis; But Darling, I'm Your Auntie Mame!: The Amazing History of the World's Favorite Madcap Aunt (1998), by Richard Tyler Jordan; Tennessee Williams & Company: His Essential Screen Actors (2010), by John DiLeo; “Judy Holiday, Winner of Oscar, Does of Cancer,” June 8, 1965, Los Angeles Times; “Mildred Natwick, 89, Actress Who Excelled at Eccentricity,” October 26, 1994, by Peter B. Shows notes provided by Joe Peluso Thanksgiving is the time of year when we open our doors and our hearts, and invite family and friends to join us in a day ofreflection and fun. Familiar faces gather around a formal setting to dine on a sumptuous feast. But what would happen if the distraction of the day wasn't Cowboys/Lions, but instead, fully realized versions of our favorite pop culture characters? Who would you proffer an invitation? Would it be a Super-Hero, a member of Star Fleet, a denizen of Tolkien's magical realm, or someone from a galaxy far, far away? Join your hosts, James, Chris , and Joe for the fourth (Yes,fourth!) annual Mint Thanksgiving Episode, and learn who these whackos would invite to their holiday tables to break bread with. The crazy"uncle" is staying home this year, but his replacement could be a riotous raconteur, a quick-tempered short guy (who brings his own cutlery), or a mystic master. But know this, friends, the entire roster of The Justice LeagueUnlimited could show up and there would still be room for TheMint Condition faithful. It's simple. We love you, and we want to share our blessings with you.

FBC Liberty City | Dr. Tim Fuller The Bible Recap
Garrett Palm returns to talk Season 7 Episode 7, "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner"!
David and Tamler hop into their Scooby Van and drive into Tobe Hooper's mad and macabre horror classic The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. How does this endlessly imitated movie still have the power to scare the shit out of people fifty years after its release? We talk about the sounds, smells, heat, and sweat (but not so much the blood) that pour out of the screen. And we dare to ask the question: are the Sawyers – a family of craftsmen and artists, committed to sustainability and fine dining – actually the victims here? Plus we take and fail a test to see if we can identify fake Republicans and Democrats. Hart, M., & Nazarian, N. (2024) Season's mis-greetings: why timing matters in global academia. Nature. Both Democrats and Republicans can pass the Ideological Turing Test [experimental-history.com] The Ideological Turing Test [ituringtest.com] The Texas Chain Saw Massacre [wikipedia.org]
