Bec and Tanya unpick the MedBikini movement and the paper that sparked it all off
No it's not a black eye, just mascara, although Tanya's poking and prodding of the twitterati could certainly cause that!

Bec and Tanya are joined by Neurosurgeon, PhD candidate, Nobel Laureate, sister to Dr Sheona Mitchell and friend of the team, Dr Ruth Mitchell to talk about complications related to prone positioning during surgery. For Dr Sheona Mitchell's description of her magnificent Halloween costume see our Halloween episode, episode 35 Pube Slippers and the scariest Halloween costume where Bec and Tanya are joined by Canadian OBGYN Sheona Mitchell. Bec and Tanya talk about power outages in the operating theatre. What are the challenges now where electronic records, anaesthesia delivery and communications are all affected? Episode dedicated to @maffygirl and team who thankfully work in a fabulous environment & advanced hospital. Power went out but at no point did she lose power to her anaesthetic equipment & the overhead surgical lights remained on. Not everyone is as lucky to worked in such an advanced environment with back ups if power is lost. Do you know what you would do if your hospital lost power?
Tanya and Bec discuss the effects of the Australian bushfires
Ep 39 New Year from London and Thailand by @MedEdStuffNN
More serious nonsense stuff and more elf on the shelf and joy. Plus GongGasGirl still believes in Santa because like her eldest said "some people don't believe in Santa but that's just because they haven't met him." AND GongGasGirl has actually met Santa IRL in Lapland so you know he's real!!
Bring us joy or bring us nothing. The first of two festive episodes sort of about nonsense and sort of pretty serious because we just can't take the serious stuff anymore. Twitter please give us joy in baby Yoda, pew pew and MaccaDoc or just don't bother. Merry Christmas, Happy Channukah, Happy Festivus and joy to all.

Tanya has just read @amateuradam Adam Kay's new book "T'was the night before christmas" just in time for christmas which is only 8 weeks away ...... but who's counting! US!! On we go rambling and spewing forth MedEd Stuff n Nonsense including Bec's similar experience to Adam of working many Christmases thanks to also having the holy trinity of being jewish, single and childless. We also cover Tanya hiding from Halloween and on it went. Guess that's what happens when you've been off air a month! Sorry chicken.
Tanya outlines this weeks JAMA Surgery article and commentary on No Good Reason about long sleeved sterile gowns for everyone in the operating theatre. The study showed no benefit but significant waste and cost. Interesting intersection with the good reason why hospitals and health corporations need to start to look at their own corporate social responsibility and impact.
Well after a month hiatus we're back. Tanya survived her multiple flights with 3 children to Europe and back. Managed to get her coffee situation sorted plus find some pastries and sunshine. She also managed to squeeze in a trip to London sans children for an emergency bridal wardrobe issue a la the hangover goes to Europe pre-Brexit
Tanya watched the Women's Grand Round presented by pain team CNC Sarah Grant and anaesthetist Dr Nam Le on intrathecal morphine from 1000km away and comments on her observations plus management of itch.
Before GongGasGirl flies away to Croatia solo parenting for 30 odd hours on a plane with 3 children she thought she'd check in. Tanya is spinning out of control having left all the packing to the last minute but in true #medtwitter fashion has googled a check list .... that involves a drone and in #medfoodtwitter classiness has prioritised food, coffee and a frother.... who cares about clothes for the soon to be free range wog children

@GongGasGirl phones in from Australia in bed in her pyjamas joining powerhouse millennial @MedEdUnicorn Rachel Lewin and @inquisitiveGyn in Vienna at #AMEE2019. They discuss the zombie, ostrich head in the sand view that Dr Google, social media, online information isn't as rigorous as textbooks and previous ways we accessed information. With special reference to Hippocrates and if you're not in the conversation you don't know what's happening.
Some absolute utter nonsense for the weekend. @GongGasGirl Tanyasplaining live tweeting to @inquisitiveGyn before she goes to Vienna for #amee2019 Plus fangirling of @Dr_Polarbird, we're bloody cold IRL & even colder thinking about her on gorgeous Macca.
We break our 280sec each rule for an extra looooooong double episode for a pretty important stuff serious topic that is being spoken about by the healthcare and general communities worldwide 7 years later! Tanya tells the Harvard Business Review to 'shut their cake hole'. 1 week after the #BarbieChallenge and coinciding with the 6 month anniversary of The Lancet issue on #WomenInMedicine issue. When can we move on to a systems wide approach to gender and unconscious bias and away from telling women to just be more confident?
Dr Laura Duggan joins Bec and Tanya from Vancouver, Canada where it's the night before! Tanya's only ever time in Vancouver was for a wedding. So of course the three end up chatting about planning a wedding as a doctor with 48hrs notice when you're oncall the night before your own wedding and that time Bec met Brad Pitt. Truly this really is MedEd stuff ‘n' nonsense!
Dr Laura Duggan joins Bec and Tanya from Vancouver, Canada where it's the night before! @drlauraduggan anaesthesia airway researcher, previous paediatric emergency doctor, current member Anaesthesia editorial board, Emcrit contributor, outdoor and # MedEd enthusiast and Canadian Royal College examiner. Talking about why, despite some negatives, social media is now an essential tool for all clinicians and maybe even a moral imperative. Unsurprising having formed #teamlaura at SMACC that the MedEdStuffNN team wholeheartedly agree and also get to have a serious chat with our Canadian mate on the other side of the world.
Minh joins Bec and Tanya from Far North Queensland to talk about the world of Med-Food-Twitter. What's the deal with the Churros Minh? ...and why are you forcing junior doctors to become experts in the medium of fried chicken, Tanya?
Here's our follow up to an intense few weeks on gender matters and how to reflect and say you're wrong. Within less than one business day RACGP show us how it's done. Comprehensive statement including an apology, protection of the wellbeing of the speakers and that they listened to the feedback and have said "we know we can do better." Be reassured we are giving RACGP a cheering ovation a l a Meryl Streep at the Oscars. An example of leadership to other institutions and colleges of how to actually do better and the power of engagement and social media for all. You otter be proud of yourself RACGP. Take a bow.

The conversation and dangerous ideas continue over on #medtwitter #NurseTwitter #AcademicTwitter and in the coffee breaks! Come join us in the Danger Zone (credit Kenny Loggins 1986). Enjoy.
What happens when the 'chicks go to the flicks'? ...we get a sequel to Pam's Swayze deficiency...

GongGasGirl and inquisitiveGyn discuss the opinion piece by Nikki Gemmell in The Australian 15 June 2019 Not a job for a Man and the responses over the past week. A double long feature episode away from our usual 4 - 9 minute format to cover a breadth of some serious MedEd stuff. Thoughts on why we do what we do including why inquisitiveGyn chose O&G training when she never thought she would. A discussion on why gender should just not come into it at and and perhaps the real issue of how we can all do better together. Let's work together.
