Consensus on the new Paul McCartney album has, to say the least, been mixed. Classical Bi-Monthly writes, “Where the f are the Liverpool Oratorio outtakes”? Dance Tuesdays proclaimed, “No Fireman? No interest”. And MAGA Monthly pouts with vitriol, “Why won't woke Macca record with current, hit-makin' patriots like Vanilla Ice, Lee Greenwood, or Chachi?” But here at the UBP, we all adore “The Boys of Dungeon Lane”. Side 1 is perhaps Macca's finest slab of wax. But what about Side 2? Is this where the patented Macca Fillers creep in? Or is Side 2 on par with the UNIFORMLY BELOVED (#TakeItTony) “Flowers In The Dirt”? And How Many People appreciate this reference? The guys continue to break-down this historic release - now available in its 700th vinyl iteration - and also ask:

Macca and Kenny are in the hosting seats this week. John Wintle is on panel. Agnes was this week’s production assistant and James is doing the podcast. Macca and Kenny’s first guest this week is a legend of Australian 70s and 80s Rock Music and a monumental figure in environmentalism, Indigenous Rights and anti-Nuclear activism. Midnight Oil front-man, and former ALP environment minister, Peter Garrett lead an independent inquiry into the Aukus defence pact, launched by a group of Labor veterans and public figures concerned proper scrutiny has never been applied to the $368bn defence plan. Garrett,  will be the lead commissioner on the five-month community-based investigation, being launched on the 9th of June of this year, it will hold public hearings and take written submissions before delivering a final report by 30 October. ‘Labor agreed to support the deal for Australia to acquire nuclear submarines in collaboration with the US and the UK, negotiated under the Morrison government and announced in 2021. As part of the agreement, Australia is funding upgrades to the US defence industrial base and will start receiving second-hand nuclear submarines in 2032'. Garrett said the new inquiry – supported by trade unions and non-profit organisations – would consider if the subs can be delivered on time and on budget, how nuclear waste will be managed and if Australia's defence and strategic interests are well served by the deal. He has previously lashed Aukus,  saying the plan “stinks” and represents “the most costly and risky action ever taken by any Australian government”. “This inquiry is doing the job that a proper parliamentary inquiry should be doing,” Garrett told Guardian Australia'. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/mar/17/peter-garrett-says-nuclear-submarine-deal-most-costly-and-risky-action-ever-taken-by-an-australian-government Photograph: Adam Ferguson/The Guardian The post Sat, 20th June, 2026: Peter Garrett, frmr Environment Minister and Midnight Oil front-man, Independent AUKUS Review. appeared first on Saturday Magazine.

Fields og The Honeymoon). Nevena, Macca and Paul are joined live on air by Josh Cox, an Olive Albino Python and a Barking Owl. Josh's philosophy is simple. ‘As a a society we are disconnected from nature. The advent of technology has changed the way we live, it has changed the way we interact, and it has jammed a wedge between us and nature'. ‘Children, from the time they are born, are now inundated with technology. It has gone well beyond the 30 minutes of watching Playschool that was the norm a generation ago. As we've become increasingly disconnected from our world and nature, the state of the planet has declined at quite a rapid rate. The threat of climate change is at our door. We are on the precipice of a mass extinction. If as a society we are disconnected from nature, we are not going to have the impetus to want to protect the planet'. Josh goes on to say, ‘I started Reptile Encounters because I want to give students the chance to connect with nature. I believe that people need to have that ‘inspire' moment to be able to make the connection for themselves. By meeting animals in the flesh we engender a respect for our environment and equip students to make a difference!' Open to the public by appointment ONLY! Reptile Encounters was founded in 2007 and is now in its 17th year of operation. Founder Josh Cox has had a lifelong love of Australian wildlife and was keen to have his own business and share his passion with the public. Initially, Reptile Encounters began with Josh as the sole presenter of reptile shows and a small collection of animals. He operated from home, and the majority of his business was weekend birthday parties. However it wasn't long before schools began enquiring and the focus of the business has gradually shifted. Josh quit his pharmaceutical sales job in 2009 to run Reptile Encounters full time and is now offering reptile parties for kids, corporate events & team building activities. For over 50 years, Saturday Night Live has been one of the most Important shows for rock music in the history of the nascent television medium. While, arguably, the most famous moment in the show's history (and Tony's favorite?) is RHCP's multi-key 1992 version of “Under The Bridge”, there have been others. (Musical Guest The Ting Tings ripping up a photo of Colonel Sanders comes to mind.) Fortunately, just in time for NBC's never more relevant, May sweeps season finale of SNL, they pulled in the big guns: RHCP! Oh s**t, Frusciante and Kiedis (LLC) are busy? Maybe (checks notes) Chad Smith is free? Might as well bring in noted Chad Smith lookalike Will Ferrel (“Elf”, Capitol One) to teach Chad how to host the show! Everyone knows Chad Smith's best friend is Paul McCartney. So Chad called Sir Paul to see if he'd learn the bass part for the AI generated RHCP songs “Funky California Space Cadet” and “Santa Monica Ding-Dong”, as onetime Macca drummer Chris Whitten beat Flea's ass in Hamburg. Where you ask? Why, under the bridge. When asked for comment, Flea replied, I don't ever wanna feel, like when Chris Whitten kicked my ass.” Later that week, as longtime Macca drummer Abe Laboriel JR was (Alonzo) mourning young mister Christopher's legal predicament and unable to travel, Chad Smith had an idea. He could play in Paul's band! On SNL! The very talented singer songwriter Ingrid Michaelson can even sing back-up, and perhaps even “Cook Of The House”! And Paul could completely ignore any lame Beatles music during the live, 90 minute broadcast, because nobody wants to hear that junk! (#Motorcars #Handlebars) Are you still with us? Da f is wrong with you? You already know Tony & T.J. will talk Macca's historic SNL performance and also hit you up with such mind benders as:

Greetings, excited Macca fans! Andy and Tom have just returned from an unforgettable trip to Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, where they attended the grand opening of the brand-new WINGS exhibit, beautifully curated by Andy Leach. It was fantastic catching up with members of our amazing 2Legs Family and exploring everything this incredible exhibit has to offer. Be sure to check out Andy's video for highlights from the weekend! Andy extended his stay and was lucky enough to attend a special presentation and intimate mini-concert featuring Laurence Juber and Steve Holley on Saturday. Despite their relatively short time in WINGS, both remain incredibly loyal and passionate supporters of Paul McCartney and his music. Andy, Heidi, and Joan even had the chance to meet them following the event! After an action-packed day, we rushed back to our hotels just in time to catch Paul's appearance on Saturday Night Live! While we expected “Days,” we were genuinely surprised that no Beatles songs made the broadcast setlist. We absolutely loved the performance. Were there a few rough edges? Maybe. But honestly… it's PAUL McCARTNEY. Watching a living legend still out there performing is always something special. Paul deserves to be celebrated. What about you? Are you planning a trip to the Hall this summer? What did you think of the SNL performance? Let us know in the comments below! Our Patreon Andy's HOF Reel

Visuals: https://getbehindthebillboard.com/episode-108-james-millers Episode #108 features James Millers, newly appointed ECD at McCann London. We've been wanting to get James on the show for ages now and were pleased to catch him before starting his new role. James has won every major award going … 23 Cannes Lions, 9 D&AD pencils, 26 One Show and more. And many of these awards are for OOH. We started with Lucozade and a campaign showing how the drink gives you the edge in a 50/51 challenge. We thought Spurs could do with a few bottles of this ;-) Next BHF and the ‘When you least expect it' campaign - a long copy, campaign talking to punters in high dwell time moments. A lovely tone of voice here, describing how a heart attack can happen anytime, anyplace. We went onto the beach with Surfers Against Sewage and heard how James had to dig a deep hole in the sand to make the work happen. And then the main course, McDonald's. It's incredible the sheer quantity and quality of work James (and ex long term partner Andrew Long) wrote and presided over during their eight years together at Leo's, leading to McDonald's being named "Brand of the Year" by Campaign magazine. In 2023/24 alone, McDonalds won over 100 awards. We could have featured any number of brilliant Macca's campaigns, but James narrowed it down to three: McDelivery, Iconic stacks and the Emoji's campaigns. All three belters with great backs stories. We closed on another banger, Kellogg's The OG, which won awards galore and put Kellogg's back on the creative map. Thanks James so much for coming on the show. We loved it. Good luck in your new role. Thanks also to Jon for the edit, Adrian and all the gang at Soho Radio and of course huge gratitude to all our sponsors, who make the show possible: Bauer Media Outdoor View2Fill Super Optimal GAS Music

Sheffield punches well above its weight when it comes to tunes. From #1 synth-pop hits to underground techno classics, clattering industrial funk to accidental Britpop icons, the Steel City might have produced more brilliant music per capita than any other world metropolis. And yet, no one has published the definitive book on the subject – until now! Daniel Dylan Wray is one of the UK's best music writers, and his new book Groovy, Laidback and Nasty: The History of Independent Music in Sheffield chronicles the maverick artists, chart invaders, parties, labels, venues and even Christian cults that shaped the city's musical history. We talked to Dan about why Sheffield wasn't swept away by punk rock but instead loved Kraftwerk and Wendy Carlos, how Peter Stringfellow became a crucial early mover in Sheffield's club scene, and why there are no murals of Jarvis Cocker in the city centre. We also heard about the unlikely chain of events that birthed Warp Records, and one of the most important yet undersung ‘80s club nights, Jive Turkey. We also unveil a major expansion of our Rockufiction canon of ‘music films that bend reality', including Frank Zappa, Daft Punk, Macca and S Club 7. That'll probably be the final update on Rockufiction, but if you have any burning additions then get them in quick…As ever, if you like what we do on No Tags, please do consider signing up to our paid tier for a mere £5 per month!
