The seasons have changed, and fall is coming to an end, which means the holidays are here! While Nate may not be the biggest fan of Thanksgiving food, he and Chelsea take some time to reflect on life and money lessons they are thankful to have learned, often around a dinner table. Nate Reineke and Chelsea Jones break down some of the valuable lessons they learned when they were young, like “don't spend money you don't have yet,” and Chelsea's favorite, “pay yourself first.” We also discuss your colleagues' questions. A Neurosurgeon in New York just got a bonus payment and has a large lump sum to invest. Should they do a one-time deposit to their taxable account or dollar cost average? A Cardiologist in Oregon says, “We earn $700k/year and we watch what we spend to some extent, yet at the end of the month, we are out of money. What do you think the problem is?” The wife of a retired General Surgeon in Oregon asks, “My husband is on Medicare, but I am not, and my insurance covers our youngest son. Should I have an HSA?” A Dermatologist in Texas says, ”My in-laws are selling their home and we are thinking about buying it and turning it into a rental property. What do you think?” However you celebrate the upcoming holiday season, we at Physician Family Financial Advisors are thankful for you! Are you ready to turn worries about taxes and investing into all the money you need for college and retirement? It's time to make a plan and get on track. Mentor Sessions Ep. 040: Bitcoin Privacy Under Attack – Neurosurgeon Exposes Government Conspiracy, Transhumanist Agenda & Economic Reset | Dr. Jack KruseNeurosurgeon Dr. Jack Kruse drops bombshells: Bitcoin privacy under siege from government conspiracy and transhumanist agendas, with the economic reset already underway via CBDCs and MK Ultra mind control tactics. He warns 50% of Bitcoiners have been fooled by cozying up to politicians like Trump (a "false flag"), Michael Saylor's propaganda, and David Bailey's missteps—pushing Bitcoin toward sloppy centralization. From Meyer Lansky's 1969 fiat debasement playbook to Epstein-funded cypherpunks controlling thoughts via Google algorithms, Kruse connects decades of history showing Zionists, Fabians, and bankers reclaiming power. But decentralized health is the key weapon: Blue light, EMFs, and Big Pharma destroy your time (the true asset) on purpose—stealing sovereignty without touching your stack. Learn why toxic maxi Bitcoiners are waking up, how to build citadels in oases like El Salvador, and simple fixes like sunrise exposure to reclaim freedom. This isn't hype—it's the privacy war Bitcoiners must win before extinction events hit Canada, the US, and more. The fascinating intersections of circadian biology, quantum health, and women's wellness really come alive as I sit down with Neurosurgeon-turned-Quantum-Biologist Dr. Jack Kruse. You'll hear how simple things, like the light you see first thing in the morning, quietly shape your hormones, energy, and even how you age. Dr. Jack's decades of surgical and biophysical knowledge make these concepts surprisingly practical for everyday health. By the end, you may find yourself rethinking your daily routines in the best way. Together, we get into why AM sunlight can make such a big difference for women going through hormonal changes, especially around menopause. Dr. Jack breaks down big ideas like heteroplasmy in simple, eye-opening terms and shows how it plays into skin health, longevity, and mitochondrial function. You'll also hear why red light deserves a place in your wellness routine, and how blue light and non-native EMFs might be draining more than just your battery. If you've ever struggled with weight changes, low energy, or hormonal shifts, you'll appreciate Dr. Jack's explanation of the leptin-melanocortin pathway and what it means for women at every age. His own 150-pound weight-loss story adds real heart to the science and shows how much can change when your environment starts working for you instead of against you. This episode delivers a mix of empowering insights and simple shifts you can start today for better vitality. Neurosurgeon Jeffrey Hatef, Jr. discusses his article "Guilty until proven innocent? My experience with a state medical board." In this episode, Jeffrey shares the shocking story of how his medical license was summarily suspended without a hearing and how incomplete records, flawed expert testimony, and questionable legal tactics created a process stacked against him. He recounts how independent reviews from spine surgeons and letters of support from nearly sixty physicians affirmed his standard of care, yet the board pursued the case with relentless determination. Jeffrey emphasizes the dangers of a system that prioritizes winning over fairness, the impact on patient autonomy, and the need for transparency and accountability in medical board proceedings. Listeners gain an inside look into the high stakes of licensure defense and the importance of due process for physicians. Our presenting sponsor is Microsoft Dragon Copilot. Back pain is one of the most common health issues worldwide yet it's still surrounded by confusion, fear, and myths. In this episode, I sit down with Anthony Ghosh, Consultant Spinal Neurosurgeon, educator and founder of Spine MDT Clinic to separate fact from fiction and give you a practical toolkit for a healthier spine. What I love about Anthony's approach is that he created SpineMDT, a modern, multidisciplinary spine care service, that works alongside physiotherapists, osteopaths and chiropractitioners to deliver holistic care to his patients, many of whom he believes would NOT benefit from spinal surgery. We cover:
Although it may seem like science is completely separate from faith, they both play a very important role in our understanding. They are not opposed and can exist together as both strive to find the truth. It's just a matter of looking at the topic from different angles, according to our guest today, Dr. Gary Simonds, a retired neurosurgeon who's treated tens of thousands of patients. Today he talks about burnout in the healthcare system, especially during and after Covid. He stresses the importance of keeping a positive attitude and focusing on resilience. Dr. Simonds suggests practicing gratitude and asks us to think of 3 things we are grateful for throughout the day. He explains how our brains actually have a different chemical reaction when looking for the positive. He suggests considering uplifting material or realizing something as simple as a smile. Sometimes we need to force ourselves to look for the positive. As a neurosurgeon, doctors typically look for the worst-case scenario, so they can plan in advance if something goes wrong. He talks about consciously directing thoughts toward possibilities and solutions. Dr. Simonds, as an expert neurosurgeon, also discusses how to deliver difficult news, while managing expectations. He's had to do it so many times, with many patients and families. He explains how it's all about trust -- a delicate walk between honesty and compassion with empathy. An expert on burnout and trauma, Dr. Simonds is the Founding Chief of Neurosurgery at the Carilion Clinic, Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (retired) and the author of three non-fiction books. “Death's Pale Flag” is his first novel and his latest book. This is Part 1 of the interview. Info: GaryRSimonds.com.
Spine surgery sits at the crossroads of need, nuance, and noise—and few people explain that terrain better than Dr. Rod Oskouian, a high-volume neurosurgeon who has led a complex spine program and also navigated care as a patient. Dr. Oskouian and Healthcare Bridge host, Nate Kaufman pull back the curtain on how consolidation, denials, and a flood of administrative demands reshape daily practice, why “low value” labels miss the mark, and what truly predicts safer outcomes when your back—or your future mobility—is on the line. The conversation starts with the evolution of neurosurgery from community coverage to regional referral, as smaller practices disappear and tertiary centers take on the hardest cases across multiple states. From the OR to the boardroom, Dr. Oskouian unpacks how EMRs, siloed decision-making, and repeated reorganizations increase friction (SEE NATE'S ARTICLE Nathan Kaufman: How silos undermine U.S. healthcare | HFMA). He makes a bold case for a mindset shift: treat physicians as the primary customers of health systems so they have the tools, staffing, and data to deliver better patient care. That shift informs smarter choices about enterprise tech, integrated AI, documentation, imaging, and revenue workflows that either free clinicians to practice medicine—or bury them in clicks and appeals.Kaufman and Dr. Oskouian into the data debate around spine surgery and “low value care,” exploring how Medicare billing data, coding incentives, and risk profiles can warp conclusions. He argues for outcomes that blend patient-reported measures with wearable-driven biometrics—steps, mobility, vitals, adherence—paired with honest risk adjustment for complex cases. For patients trying to choose a surgeon, they offer a pragmatic playbook: prioritize volume, fellowship-trained teams, multidisciplinary pathways, and centers that live and breathe your specific procedure. And they get personal as Dr. Oskouian recounts a severe ski accident, the authorization gauntlet he faced despite insider knowledge, and the hard lesson that navigating networks can matter as much as medical expertise. If you care about healthcare strategy, spine outcomes, physician leadership, or how to advocate for yourself when it counts, this conversation delivers grounded insight you can use. Subscribe, share with a friend who's weighing surgery, and leave a review with your biggest question about choosing the right surgeon—we'll dig into it on a future show.Support the showEngage the conversation on Substack at The Common Bridge!

This is one of the most memorable conversations I have had on the podcast. With a heavy heart today, I am re-releasing his episode in honor of Dr. James Doty on neuroscience, manifestation, and the power of focusing your mind and heart on what you know is possible in your life.Dr. Doty passed away on July 16, 2025, from medical complications following surgery. This episode was recorded before his death and remains one of our most beloved conversations. He was truly an incredible human being who believed deeply in the power of the human spirit, mind, and soul.Dr. Doty was a highly sought-after speaker and podcast guest, and he didn't have to say yes to coming on the Cracking Open podcast. But he told me that among the 300 emails he received the day he got my request, he felt it was a "yes" to crack open—and I will forever be grateful.Dr. James Doty was a:World-renowned Stanford neurosurgeon and neuroscientist, philanthropist, and leading researcher in the science of compassionFormer CEO of Accuray (NASDAQ: ARAY), where he helped develop CyberKnife technology, saving countless lives worldwideFounder of the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE) at Stanford University School of Medicine, where His Holiness the Dalai Lama is the founding benefactorNew York Times and international bestselling author of Into the Magic Shop and his most recent book, Mind Magic: The Neuroscience of Manifestation, which became a top-selling book on Amazon in multiple categoriesIn this episode, Dr. Doty shares his journey from growing up in a tumultuous home to discovering the power of self-agency and the science of manifestation. He opens up about his successes and failures, his struggles with choosing to live life from his ego or his heart, and how much he appreciates being called out on his shortcomings. Ultimately, he discovered that "possessions, position, and power have nothing to do with wisdom, insight, or self-awareness."Dr. Doty and I dive into the science of manifestation and explore actionable steps you can take to manifest the life of your dreams. We explore how therapy can yield incredible results when the client is willing to confront life's challenges and the shadow side of their personality. When we can illuminate the darker, often hidden parts of ourselves, we can become more integrated and whole as individuals.Whether you have heard this episode before or it's your first time, I invite you to listen to Dr. Doty with an open heart and carry his wisdom forward. To honor Dr. Doty's legacy and life, you can visit his memorial page here: https://everloved.com/life-of/james-doty/

You've been told addiction is a disease or a moral failing. That emotional pain is separate from your brain wiring. And that quantum physics is just science fiction jargon. This week on Win Today, Dr. Lee Warren—a neurosurgeon, Iraq War vet, and author—pushes back on all of that. He exposes how unraveling addiction requires more than therapy—it demands restructuring your neural pathways. He digs into how neurodivergent brains function, why most spiritual advice fails, and how quantum physics reveals that your brain isn't a victim—it's a participant. Lee will show you why normal isn't enough, why passive hope is setting you up for failure, and why self‑brain‑surgery—rewiring your neural patterns—is the ultimate resistance. If you're wrestling with addictive patterns, feeling trapped in mental loops, or want hard science fused with spiritual hope, this conversation will light a fire under you. This isn't motivation—it's neuroscience applied. It's the answer buried inside your skull. Episode Links Show Notes Buy my NEW BOOK "Healing What You Can't Erase" here! Neurosurgeon Drops Bombshell in Karen Read Trial On What Really Killed John O'Keefe In one of the most critical testimonies yet in the Karen Read trial, world-renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Isaac Wolf took the stand and offered a detailed medical analysis of the head injuries suffered by Boston police officer John O'Keefe. With decades of experience treating traumatic brain injuries and conducting neurosurgery at institutions like Yale, NYU, and the Miami Neuroscience Center, Dr. Wolf brought serious weight to the question: What actually caused John O'Keefe's death? According to Dr. Wolf, the injuries found on O'Keefe—including a non-depressed skull fracture, orbital roof fractures, and brain contusions—were consistent with a classic “coup-contrecoup” injury, a term used to describe brain damage caused by a sudden blow followed by a forceful shift in brain position. He argued that this injury pattern is commonly seen in falls—particularly onto hard surfaces like ice—and specifically ruled out any need for a weapon like a bat or hammer. Dr. Wolf also pointed to signs like "raccoon eyes" and deep internal hemorrhaging that indicated O'Keefe was not killed instantly but likely became unconscious and declined over time—casting doubt on claims that he was beaten and left for dead. He further stated that the skull injuries were not typical of a direct weapon strike, which would have caused a depressed skull fracture. For the prosecution, this testimony supports the theory that O'Keefe was struck by a car and fell backwards onto hard ground—while the defense faces a harder road trying to argue intentional blunt force trauma by another means. Watch this in-depth breakdown to understand exactly what Dr. Wolf said—and why it may change the trajectory of the case entirely. #KarenRead #JohnOKeefe #BrainInjury #NeurosurgeonTestimony #CoupContrecoup #TrueCrime #ForensicEvidence #TrialCoverage #HeadTrauma #JusticeForOKeefe Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Karen Read Trial Bombshell Neurosurgeon Says O'Keefe Fell, Wasn't Beaten Today, we break down the gripping testimony of Dr. Aizik Wolf, the neurosurgeon whose words may have shifted the trajectory of the Karen Read trial. Called unexpectedly to the stand, Dr. Wolf told jurors that John O'Keefe's head injury was not from a weapon—but a fall. And not just any fall—one so severe it caused what he called a “classic blunt trauma laceration” at the base of the skull, fracturing it and triggering a fatal cascade inside the brain. He testified that the “raccoon eyes” bruising around O'Keefe's eyes developed 1 to 3 hours after the injury, suggesting a delayed death and possibly upending timelines. When challenged by the defense, Wolf fired back with one of the day's most talked-about lines: “I'm not a forensic pathologist. I'm a brain surgeon.” We dive into what this testimony could mean for the prosecution's narrative, whether the science matches the state's theory that Karen Read hit O'Keefe with her SUV, and how the jury might interpret this emotionally and medically charged explanation. Is this testimony a game-changer—or just one more complex layer in a case already steeped in forensic ambiguity and public polarization?
