#SOUR. It's the album I didn't know I needed. My inner angsty teen screams to it, my current 27-year-old self cries to it. Ahhhhh it's therapy. But cast your mind back even 10 years. Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez, and Ariana Grande, were all still bow-in-the-hair picture-perfect Disney stars. Miley especially, worked hard to break the mold - meaning she was sexualized and highly criticized in the media for just being a typical teen. Fast-forward to today, Disney star and the world's biggest and newest pop-star, Olivia Rodrigo, it's a different story. Oliva's debut is the perfect teen album. Hurt real feelings, insecurities, and real-life shit. She swears, she yells, and she goes through all the motions. LIKE EVERY TEEN DOES! A new-age star, she's perfectly executed the differentiating properties between Disney star and real-life teen - AND WE'RE HERE FOR IT! We discuss this and much for in the first part of this chat - I even (attempt) to sing/scream along. I mean, good 4 u, is just next level and an emotion I've struggled to express until this song. This week's therapy session is going to be much more communicative - i just need to read the lyrics! Part two of this solo episode I talk about the struggles of making friends as an adult. IT'S FUCKING HARD and noone is talking about it! I'd love to hear your thoughts on this too. Make sure you follow our socials too so we can keep this conversation alive. What do Madonna, Miley Cyrus, Meghan Markle, Vanessa Hudgens, Kristen Bell, Halle Berry, Sarah Jessica Parker, Halsey, and Demi Lovato all have in common, they're some of the many women who have been seen wearing Awe Inspired jewelry. Awe Inspired was founded back in 2017 by mother-son duo, Jill and Max Johnson. Jill, a three-time cancer survivor was on a pursuit to create a brand that made meaningful and exceptional quality gifts for anyone looking to honor a survivor in their life. Ughhhh breakups and heartbreak. Regardless of what time and what stage of your life you're at, they're inevitable. We all experience loss, we all experience pain, and most importantly, we all get over these heartaches at our own pace and at our own time. I was so excited to be able to chat with Daniella Coradini from Dating Millennial this week. After taking the leap and ending a longterm relationship that was no longer serving her last year, Daniella jumped into online dating. AHHHH FEARLESS (TAYLOR'S VERSION) IS OUT! As a massive Swifite, I've been patiently waiting for the moment, and Ms Taylor Alison Swift sure didn't disappoint. But the bottom line is, even if you aren't a Swiftie, you have to respect her work ethic, her business savvy mind, and her strength to reclaim her intellectual property from a bunch of rude and misogynistic white men. And that's where I'm pissed off. While we really break down and take a deep dive into some of the small lyric and sonic changes between the original and new versions, I also cover some of the negative reviews - that honestly just miss the damn point of the purpose of the release! Like, they're actually laughable and no research has been done! This brings me to the media loving to hate on successful women, unnecessarily. Another who continues to face criticism, Meghan Markle. In this week's news, we learnt the sad passing of Prince Phillip. While Prince Harry has flown back home to the UK to attend the funeral, his wife, WHO IS IN HER THIRD TRIMESTER AND HAS BEEN ADVISED BY HER DOCTORS NOT TO FLY ACROSS THE ATLANTIC DURING A PANDEMIC, is not in attendance. But the media - clickbait media - "Harry will be attending, Meghan will not." I also saw articles insinuating Meghan was to BLAME for the death of Prince Phillip, 99. Yet, did not even mention his son, Prince Andrew....UGHGHHHHH. I JUST CAN'T. Anyway, no need for me to continue my rant on here, you can go listen to that! 77% of the world have some sort of anxiety when it comes to public speaking! I couldn't believe that was the number one fear - ahead of spiders, snakes, etc. when I read that. Before I had the chance to interview Brenden, I was speaking with some of my most confident friends and so many told me about their anxieties when it comes to presenting and speaking in front of an audience. While still young, Brenden has spent the past few years not only mastering public speaking but teaching others how to master it too. Providing professional training to top clients such as IBM and McGill University, Brenden also ensures all his content is accessible for all on his YouTube channel. Harry and Meghan sat down for an interview with Oprah this evening. Nothing was off the table, and boy, as a collective society, we should be ashamed of ourselves. For a majority of Meghan's solo sit-down with Oprah, the hurtful and lying tabloids were discussed. I myself, worked at one of the prominent publications for many years, only finding the courage to leave six-months-ago. While I myself have always believed Meghan and not the tabloids and online trolls, the extent to which this poor woman has been bullied is devastating. Meghan is and has always been an advocate for women, yet she was silenced by the firm. Even when she found the courage to speak up and admit to having had suicidal thoughts and ask for help, she was denied. Can you even imagine being denied help when you're in such a mental state? She TRUSTED them to protect her but was rather thrown out to the dogs. A major takeaway from this interview was about trust. You CAN'T trust anyone to protect or stand up for you. YOU have to do that yourself. This is my first solo chat for the season and it was something that I just felt as though I needed to discuss. It's raw, it's honest, there are tears, and it's purely me just speaking from the heart. *Note: This chat does discuss mental health issues and suicide. Research has now suggested micro-influencers are more valuable than influencers with millions of followers, due to the trust their community holds and their sincere passion for brands and products. The forced and unexpected termination meant she was thrown into the freelance writing world and she had to figure it all out for herself. Wow. What a time it's been for our world over the past few weeks. Coronavirus has really put life into perspective for many and has brought us closer as nation emotionally - not physically! It's also crazy to think how much the virus has changed in purely the past week. Last week at this time I was in Australia and was laughing over the lack of toilet paper. Now, I'm sitting at home locked down in isolation. I want to make it clear (as I'll go over in the chat multiple times), I and my guest, Baillie, are in no way making fun of the situation, however, we didn't take it as seriously as we do now because it wasn't as serious as it is now when we recorded the chat. Money and mental health - two taboo topics. However, I read an article this week that said millennials are destigmatizing speaking about money and mental health and I was 100% on board. I can honestly say first hand that there have been times I need to take a day off work due to a mental health struggle, yet never once have I said that. It's always been the standard food poisoning or general 'sick'. Why? because mental health is still a stigma and we're worried of what people may or may not say regarding our health. Mental health is just as important, if not more, than physical health. And as for money, well, I didn't grow up talking about money. It was a sweep under the rug topic. So it was interesting when my guest Fiona Zaring had a different upbringing. We speak about these issues and more in this chat. I hope you enjoy and keep the conversation alive on our socials! Unemployment rates are high and you may begin to wonder why you even wasted all this time and money furthering your education. Here Fiona Zaring and I share the reality of hustling after college and why in retrospect that year - year-and-a-half of complete misery was actually all worth it with more growth than we realised at the time. We also share our first day on the job in full-time employment...and it's no better than unemployment! How's boiling eggs for a start? If this is you, hang in there! It'll all be worth it! - MORE ON FULL EP: 1 - This week's guest, Fiona Zaring, and myself, both graduated university/college with degrees in journalism. However, we both had very different experiences and ways of being taught. One thing that was consistent was that we were both taught that you're never done learning. On this episode segment, we discuss the unusual ways we continue to perfect our skills (including reading shampoo bottles) and what it's really like in the industry. We also speak about our experiences with trolls bringing you down. Listen to the full episode for more. Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE, RATE & REVIEW! - MORE ON FULL EP: 1 - Like many jobs, especially those in some form of entertainment/media, things are changing so rapidly because of the digital era. I find it hard to really describe and explain to people what my job as an entertainment journalist is so thought it would be interesting to see my guest Fiona Zaring's take on it, being one herself. The struggle and the grind is real. If you're someone looking to work in the media or just interested in what goes on behind the scenes, then this episode is for you. In my first episode, I talk to good friend and fellow host/journalist, Fiona Zaring, on her path from confused college kid to working digital host. We speak about everything from her childhood hanging out with the likes of Zac Efron on an average day to going to college at Chapman and getting a degree in broadcast media. Fiona also shares what happened on the first day of her full time job....where she was simply asked to go boil some eggs. She also shares working at Clevver TV for a short time before the company closed down abruptly, and how her consistant networking landed her a job today at Shared Media. - MORE ON FULL EPISODE: 0 - It's safe to say I've always been a workaholic - even at this moment, I'm sick on bedrest, but can't stop. This segment from EPISODE: 0 details my experiences from my first job at 10-years-old trying to find customers for my $60/hr dog walking service service - (I later reduced my rates drastically to $2)...to complete burnout by 23. Mono/glandular fever is something many have unfortunately experienced. I got it from an already bad date and it led to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). Today I try to put my health first - it's definitely a work in progress. Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE, RATE & REVIEW! - MORE ON FULL EPISODE: 0 - I travelled around the US for nearly 7 months back in 2013. While I had a working visa and travel visa...things didn't go to plan and I ended up finding out I had been traveling illegally around the country for months. Especially since the tragic 9/11, the US don't mess around - something which I appreciate and am happy to abide by any protocols. With that, it meant I was sent to jail (yes, with handcuffs, real prison, OITNB style outfits) and then deported. Since then, I've been lucky enough to have gotten a green card and moved to the States. I still have to go to airport jail every time I come in, but know how lucky I am to live here. - MORE ON FULL EPISODE: 0 - Not knowing what I want to do in life is still something I struggle to work out. However, I did hit a turning point after being jailed where I knew my path in health/fitness - in particular physiotherapy and speech pathology wasn't right for me. This segment, from the FULL EPISODE 0, details how an injury of a frozen shoulder and experience with a horrid physio left me second guessing and why even after that I still studied health. Today, I work as a journalist and while I don't know what the future holds, I know I made the right career decision. Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE, RATE & REVIEW! WELCOME TO THE MILLENNIALS TALK PODCAST - EP:0 AHHHH I'M SO EXCITED AND RELIEVED IT'S FINALLY LIVE! (Excuse the overuse of upcoming exclamation marks!) For this first/bonus podcast, I thought it'd be best to introduce myself and tell you a few stories and life changing experiences that have brought me to where I am today and topics that I will touch on throughout my chats with guests. Most of the top three things happened in the past few years and there's a few aspects I'm still dealing with today e.g. chronic fatigue syndrome or CFS as my fellow suffers call it.
