Claudia Karvan joined the show and had us all starstruck—especially Tim, who went full fanboy. She opened up about her wild Splendour in the Grass memories (yes, she was in the Nirvana mosh pit), being hoisted into the sky by a hot air balloon (kind of), and the deep family revelations she uncovered on Who Do You Think You Are?. From orphans to balloonists and suffragettes, her ancestors seriously delivered. Oh, and she absolutely crushed Quick Draw… even if she called us out for being demons.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

We will have a guest pastor. Reverend Scott Hoezee, the director for the Center for Excellence in Preaching at Calvin Seminary will lead us. He will preach on John 8:48-59 and his sermon title is "Who Do You Think You Are?"
“What is truth?” Pontius Pilate scoffed at Jesus (Jn 18:38), and that's how we think about matters today in our culture—subjectively: my truth, your truth, etc. To make the argument that there is a knowable Truth (with a capital T) that is written in the world and in our bones, theologians Deborah Savage and Robert Fastiggi examine a selection of autobiographical accounts of ‘lived experience.' They take a number of personal essays written by those who have erred from the path of Catholic social teaching and sexual morality—in the dark forest of the world, to borrow from Dante—and their subsequent disappointments and suffering. They examine these narratives through the anthropology of John Paul II and the authority of the physical and social sciences, including medical doctors. So, there is Good News for all of us: if we find ourselves lost and unhappy in our errant meanderings, the Church can bring us home. We can always choose, as God reminded Cain gently (Gen 4:7), “sin is couching at the door; its desire is for you, but you may overcome it.” Here is the book on the En Route Books website (which includes video links)here is the book on Amazon.com. When Emily Nussbaum introduced Alan Cumming at the New Yorker Festival, she said, “Plenty of actors light up a room, but Alan Cumming is more of a disco ball—reflecting every possible angle of show business.” Cumming appears in mainstream dramas such as “The Good Wife,” and also more indie projects like his one-man version of “Macbeth”; his performances in musicals such as “Cabaret” are legendary. He also owns a nightclub; his memoir “Not My Father's Son” was a bestseller, and so on. And Cumming plays the host on the Emmy-winning reality show “The Traitors.” He combines “a dandy Scottish laird—sort of James Bond villain, sort of eccentric, old-fashioned nut who has this big castle.” Spoiler alert: “It's supposed to be my castle. It's not.” Nussbaum asks about his perspective on reality TV before he started on “Traitors.” “Zero, really,” Cumming confesses. “I was a bit judgy. … The thing I don't like about a lot of those shows is that they laud and therefore encourage bad behavior and lack of kindness.” Before “The Traitors,” Cumming's first brush with reality television was on “Who Do You Think You Are?,” a BBC genealogy program that confronted him with shocking secrets about his own family. “It made a good memoir, I suppose,” he jokes. “Just how awful that was. It was awful. But no, I don't regret it.”

Here we go! Here we go! This year marks 30 years since the Spice Girls were formed and as a podcast literally named after a Spice Girls album track, we simply could not let this milestone slip away without some kind of celebration! Joel and David are breaking tradition and going all the way back to 1996 to revisit the legendary debut album "Spice". Geri, Mel B, Emma, Melanie C and Victoria completely changed the pop landscape when they crashed into the charts with 'Wannabe' that summer - quickly becoming one of the most recognisable songs in the world! This multi-million-selling album was a global success, spawning further chart-topping hits like 'Say You'll Be There', '2 Become 1', 'Mama' and 'Who Do You Think You Are?'. We track their trajectory from a couple of 'raw Spices' to global pop stars in this short span of one album. Join us as we reminisce on all the singles, the music videos, photo shoots, album tracks, b-sides, 'lost tracks' (Justice for 'Do You Think About Me?') and unforgettable live performances of this whirlwind 12 months! There's obviously so much more we could cover with this era and anything to do with the Spice Girls... so if that's what you want, what you really really want... let us know in the comments! Do you believe that angels surround you? Do you think you are guided or are you filled with self-doubt? Lisa continues the conversation today with best-selling author Keith Leon S. who absolutely knows his angels are always with him. He asked for assistance as a child and heard the voice of his Guardian Angel. They have been with him ever since and Keith believes we can all ask them for their guidance and wisdom. He talks about reincarnation and what he has learned. He also discusses the non-linear nature of reality and how we can direct things in this reality. The choices we make now dictate our future. We can make them in alignment with the outcome we want. Keith talks about a specific “knowing” and how he manifests. He discusses the power of belief and how it's possible to cancel out our own prayers with our wavering. If we take in the mainstream media and listen to negative news, for example, we can be deeply affected. He reminds us that we can choose to only receive things in alignment with how we want to be. We can look at role models and the choices they make. He talks about his involvement with Agape Spiritual Center and his relationship with Reverend Michael Beckwith. He became a practitioner there, as well as a soloist in their music program, including performing on stage with Stevie Wonder and Ben Vereen. Keith shares a personal story in which Ben Vereen was singing and afterward talked about his admiration for him. Since that moment, he realized that he was no longer nervous to sing and perform for an audience. Keith also discusses Ernest Holmes and the teachings of the Church of Religious Science, as well as other great spiritual teachers. He explains how they are all saying the same thing, only using different words. He further shares messages from his Angels and their words for humanity's future. He talks about how everything is for the “highest good,” even if it doesn't seem that way. We must turn off the noise and rely on our inner knowing. He suggests going into a place of stillness and asking a single question. The quality of our questions determines our answers. Keep asking that question over and over, until you receive the answer. He also suggests writing positive affirmations and repeating mantras 100 times a day for 33 days to reprogram our subconscious minds. That way, we can become aligned and find an energetic match to what we desire. Keith is a multiple best-selling author, international speaker, and owner of a successful book publishing company. His books include, “Walking with My Angels,” “Who Do You Think You Are? Discover the Purpose of Your Life,” and “The Seven Steps to Successful Relationships,” co-authored with his wife, Maura. He also talks about his most recent book and film, “The Inside Effects: How the Body Heals Itself,” which is available to watch for Free. This is Part 2 of the interview. Have you forgotten that you are guided? Do you believe that angels surround you and can help? Or are you in a state of self-doubt? Our guest today is best-selling author Keith Leon S. who knows his angels are always with him. Keith didn't always believe he was being guided though. He had a tough upbringing and when he asked for assistance as a child, he heard the voice of his Guardian Angel. When he first heard the voice as a child, and knew it was a voice outside of himself. It was not “all in his head,” so he knew it wasn't an imaginary friend. He then met an angel in the flesh when he was in a troubled spot in his twenties. Keith believes we all have earthbound angels. He's had experiences where he's met with his various angels and spirit guides during an out-of-body episode. Keith talks about how we can all access our personal Guardian Angels. He says we can look for signs, as well as meditating and asking questions. He suggests that we ask just one single question, then sit in silence. Ask the same question over and over, and you will hear the answer. It may be through the guidance of a song lyric or a symbol you see. You cannot ask “Why” questions, he explained. He suggested asking “How can I?” and “Who do I need to be?” instead. You can also ask “What” questions, such as “What is my next step?” He used this technique and shared a personal story about meeting with best-selling author John Gray and how John then wrote the foreword to one of his books about relationships. It also involves taking action. He talks about the difference between intuition and following guidance. It doesn't matter how you receive the answer; it matters if you follow it. Stay in one question until you receive the answer. Keith discusses how we all come from Source and how we are directly connected. We can ask questions and hear answers at any point. It is up to us to take the necessary steps forward. Yet, have we all been assigned a Guardian Angel? What are the signs? They are always with us and are here to get us to our “pre-determined expiration date,” according to Keith. Maybe you've taken a different road, only to find out there was a terrible accident on the route you normally take. This could be an example of your angels protecting you. Keith further describes a relationship he had with a personal Guardian Angel who intervened at various points in his life. He explained that before you come to this Earth, you know how long you will be here. Anything can happen, so your Guardian Angel can help intervene. If you look at your path, you can make different choices, and enter a new destiny. Keith chose a new path after his Guardian Angel warned him that if he continued drinking excessively and doing drugs, he would have less than 2 weeks to live. Everything that his angel told him previously had come true, so he decided to dramatically shift gears and improve his life, as well as the lives of countless others. This is Part 1 of the interview. ORIGINAL AIR DATE June 12 2023 on our Patreon page release now for FREE in memory of Pete. Here's one for those of you out there hungering for more Southern stuff. Our buddy Dr. Peter Carmichael came to the studio to talk about Confederate reactions to the Battle of Gettysburg. Peter S. Carmichael received his Ph.D. in History from Penn State University in 1996. His academic interests include 19th-century US history, Civil War and Reconstruction, southern history, public history and cultural history. The culmination of nearly ten years' work, this cultural history of soldiering in Civil War armies explores how soldiers endured the brutal and unpredictable existence of army life during the war years, drawing heavily on close examination of the letters and records left behind by individual soldiers from both the North and the South. His previous books include The Last Generation: Young Virginians in Peace, War, and Reunion (UNC, 2005) and Lee's Young Artillerist: William R. J. Pegram (Virginia, 1995). In addition to his books, he has also published a number of articles for both scholarly and popular journals, and he speaks frequently to general and scholarly audiences. Lee documentary for the American Experience series and on the popular TV show “Who Do You Think You Are.” View Professor Carmichael's talks on C-SPAN.After completing his doctorate at Penn State University under Dr. Gary W. In addition to overseeing multiple interpretive workshops for National Park Service staff, he directed a 2010 seminar at Gettysburg NMP to discuss new interpretive approaches to the Civil War sesquicentennial and co-directed (with Jill Ogline Titus) the joint GC/GNMP conference, The Future of Civil War History: Looking Beyond the 150th in 2013.

WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE? | Mindset Mastery w/ AZ Araujo Manifesting something much greater within yourself should be at the forefront of how you approach the game of life, especially when you're committed to constant growth. Growth comes with challenges, and through these challenges, you will face moments of being broken. This is a fundamental part of the process, and it's important to keep this in mind as you navigate life's obstacles. When you're in the thick of these challenges, you might feel frustrated, as if the world is conspiring against you. It's crucial to understand that the path to growth won't always align with your plans. Life rarely goes exactly as we imagine it will, and accepting this reality is part of the journey. Growth demands a lot from you. It requires taking on great responsibility, overcoming numerous challenges, and maintaining relentless effort. The grind can often feel defeating, draining your motivation and inspiration, making it seem like a constant burden. Yet, everyone goes through this. It's easy to forget that these struggles are integral to the process. Without self-reflection and thoughtful analysis of your thoughts, frustration can grow, leading you to believe you deserve all the positives without any of the downsides, trapping you in a negative mindset. But ask yourself: Who do you think you are? Who do you think you are to sit there and complain about the very life you once dreamed of? Who do you think you are to loathe the process, forgetting that there was a time when living the life you have now was merely a fantasy? Who do you think you are to act like a victim, expecting everything to work out in your favor? Growth involves accepting both the good and the challenging aspects that push you to the next level. It's almost comical to believe you shouldn't face any challenges. Such entitlement ignores the reality that growth is a constant battle and fight. Stop complaining and ask yourself again: Who do you think you are? By having this honest and raw conversation with yourself, you will begin to see the humor in expecting dream results without the accompanying responsibilities. Embrace these responsibilities and meet your challenges with a positive attitude. Be grateful and thankful for the opportunity to push your boundaries. Every problem you face is aligning you with your ultimate goals. QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER: How do you remind yourself that being broken and challenged is part of the growth process? What strategies do you use to maintain motivation during tough times? How do you practice self-reflection to avoid falling into a negative mindset? In what ways can you change your perspective on challenges to see them as opportunities for growth? NOTABLE QUOTES: "Manifesting something much greater within yourself should be at the forefront of how you approach the game of life, especially when you're committed to constant growth." "Growth demands a lot from you. It requires taking on great responsibility, overcoming numerous challenges, and maintaining relentless effort."
