40 years ago the late great Douglas Adams released the classic Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Richard this week was giving a talk at the fabled CloudCamp in London and it featured heavily so we talk about that, our personal take on Mothers Day and mothers in general and why becoming a mum is viewed so obviously differently by a mother and her husband/partner. Can we ever agree on anything ? Find out.
In this episode, fuelled you could argue by mojitos and a large gin and tonic we aim to put the world to rights and have some fun on the way. We are also hosting now on Podbean. Point your podcast client to http://notquitetheafterglow.podbean.com/feed/
This weeks show talks about the pitfalls of the perfect Valentine, looks back through the mists of time at past Valentines in the 1980s and 1990s and our perspective on what it takes to make a Valentine's Day. We also ask each other searching questions from a pack of "Couple's Love Cards" (a little bit of sick just came out) but who knows ? Maybe we learnt something about each other we didn't already know.
Marriage is a constant challenge to all married folk and anyone who tells you otherwise is either happily celibate or in a very small minorty. Give and take is it a concept ? Does your other half pull their weight ? What's the secret to your marriage ? ~ Listen to the show and let us know your thoughts...
We often don't take time out to realise and appreciate friendships. Friendships that are foundations of our daily lives or have shaped who we are. We also touch on the topic of mental health and how important it is to reach out and listen.
This week sees Episode 19 where we continue to explore the drivers of why podcasting is taking off. We offer a complete setup to record professional grade episodes, we talk cheese, married life and much more besides.
This week Chloe hit her 36th birthday, aging disgracefully but we take time out to talk age gaps and our different outlooks to things including the topic of the Grim Reaper catching up with all of us eventually. We talk about married life peeves, sharing a bathroom with your husband ? Do you all tolerate your husband's bathroom habits or are you worse ?
The episode where the New Year is definitely a distant memory a week in, we discuss changing priorities, flatulence, pregnancy, did we keep any resolutions seven days on. Feeling your age or not, letting things slide, we look forward to a fun few weeks and generally talk married stuff. Like you do. Or maybe you don't... Let us know
First episode of 2018 recorded 2nd January, the first day Chloe sounded human for five days, we talk about surviving Christmas and New Year and actual New Years Resolutions that have been stated now publically on the cast - so listen in and lets see where it takes us.
So this year just like last year we travelled to New York with our family and the kids and we saw an opportunity to record a special show just for you guys. Recorded LIVE in Time Square and talking to special guests put on the spot with a microphone, talking to other couples about what Christmas means to them in North America. We had a blast recording this live and the quality is pretty good too. Have a great Christmas, thanks for listening to this and our other shows and come back throughout 2018 for more great content. Happy Christmas !!
We discuss how Christmas has changed since our childhoods and also look at the differences in our growing up at polar opposites of class and country a generation apart. Come back for a festive special podcast next week from a surprise location and who knows ? We may even have a special guest.
Middle age invades every marriage at some point and this is not the place for a confessional however it will do. Grooming habits and whisky cocktails combine to set the festive route to Christmas as Chloe confesses how she keeps warm at night. Tune in next week for Episode 14, with a special Episode 15 that will be very very different.
In Episode 12 it's the last week in November 2017 and we confront the idiots who stockpile food for Christmas a year ahead or panic buy in the shops and we examine why if there is a zombie attack it's everyone round Richard and Chloes for tea and cakes. Come back next week for episode 13
Episode 11 coming to you slightly later than planned because of manflu and the dreaded lurghi. We talk about why we podcast and what the influences are for that podcasting, talk This American Life, Tell Em Steve Dave and much more. Christmas is ever present so we dicuss this and the English fascination with misunderstanding the relevance of Thanksgiving, Black Friday and the idiocy of people buying crap online. Come back next week for the next episode
Apologies for this show being later than usual - we always try and go live on a Sunday. However, illness got in the way and now we aren't so nasally and full of phlegm we are able to get behind microphones and record this weeks show, episode 10. We talk about living for today, our trademark hotel penis makes a re-appearance (yes you read that correctly and if you haven't tuned in before all will be revealed). Come back next week for episode 11.
Episode 9 continues the rich vein of confessional conversation that now 70,000 people tune into every week, we talk about our penchant as dog owners, recorded on bonfire night November 5th you'll have to put up with feint firework noise in the background to the show. Chloe does her best to seduce two twenty something muscular gardeners but admits she missed the opportunity. Tune in next week for Episode 10 next week - 12th November !
This is the latest release of the podcast. We talk five years of marriage, Richard tries his best to keep up with his erudite wife. Donwload / stream now
This week in the UK Chris Packham TV's amazing ornotholigist and animal expert was on BBC TV in a commissioned programme talking about having Aspergers Syndrome following on from his amazing book Fingers in the Sparkle Jar which we recommend to everyone. Chloe for a decade has lived and loved Richard, happily married, two kids - despite Richard having Aspergers. Thanks to the BBC and Chris for being so honest, open and transparent and giving us a voice and a platform as folk in the wider world. Hear how we've coped, embraced differences and learnt how to deal with daily issues while not letting it change life more than it needs to. A slightly longer episode than usual but its a complex topic not many people understand.
This week we look at what it takes to feel like you're actually an adult. When are you ready ? What is the point you feel "fuck yes I did it !!", what are the steps you've personally taken to adulthood or are you still fighting it. We talk regret, angst, pride, projectile vomit and good cheese. Chloe takes Richard to task, Richard just about struggles to feel like he has a hold on reality and looks back with anger. If you've not already visited the Facebook page for Not Quite The Afterglow go do it now !
Chloe is a Millenial, Richard is just plain old. We talk Generation X and Y, internet dating and the challenges folk face with the perils of internet dating, we talk Foo Fighters, bridging the age gap with music, we look back in time without getting maudlin and too depressed. Count our blessings that we aren't in our twenties again, come back soon for Episode 6 and do visit the Facebook Page "Not Quite The Afterglow" and give us some feedback !
This is episode 4 where Chloe continues to demonstrate why she wears the trousers. Richard laments modern fashion, both recover from a very mild excess of home made cocktails and generally put the world to rights as only they can. Chloe talks Doritos, dodgy teenage fashion and Richard generally just feels hard done by. If you haven't already visited the Facebook Group "Not Quite The Afterglow" then you're missing out and full technicolor details of some parts of this podcast will be less enjoyable (go look !!). Come back next week where Chloe will no doubt put Richard in a headlock or tie him to a moving car and wave him goodbye lovingly. More than 11,000 people listened last week which is terrifying ....
Episode three sees us lamenting on why it takes men more time to do stuff than it reasonably should, talk patent leather head turning boots and why men buy crap presents for their wives and family. Basically it's Chloe kicking Richard about and putting him in his place. We talk phallic behaviour in hotel rooms and it's not what you're thinking, in fact nowhere close. Make sure you comment using Twitter using our moniker @AfterglowCast or comment on the Facebook group searching on Not Quite The Afterglow.
The second episode in Season One of Not Quite The Afterglow continues where the first ended with Chloe essentially berating Richard over his "secret single behaviour". Confessions galore will fill your headphones / earbuds as both combatants stand up for their rights to maintain "secret single behaviour" well into a marriage. Naked dating rears it's head and more.
