It's beginning to sound a lot like Christmas. And when, exactly, is it okay to start listening to Tiny Tim's playlist of Tinsel Tunes? Robbie and Jay tackle the tough issue of timing: can you listen to Jingle Bells prior to Thanksgiving? Or will Grandma get run over by a reindeer if you get ahead of the game? Then, once it is allowable to listen, what style is preferred? Jay promotes his subscription music service and Robbie runs through the seemingly endless list of Christmas music channels on SiriusXM. Art was out enjoying a potluck (did he get the better end of the deal?), but the remaining Guys had Geeks of the Week, of course. Jay is grateful he got his personalized Funko Pop figure before the company goes out of business, and will probably have to rely on eBay to complete his collections. R obbie takes listeners through the trials and troubles of the Walking Dead lawsuits (can zombies sue?), and shares news of yet another potential streaming service takeover that could shake up the whole game. Listen and sing along: this one is Holly Jolly.
Send us a textHow Christmasy are you feeling? It's December now and I know for some people this is a really exciting time of year.Today's podcast has been the best fun to record and is about a book which I absolutely adored. In fact, the only thing I didn't like about today's book is the fact that I didn't read it for the first time in December because it is a proper warm hug of a cheesy Christmas romantic comedy. That's not to say that it is without depth, but it really is just about the most perfect book to snuggle up in front of the fire with a hot chocolate and escape into and it was a huge treat to get to talk to Hayley Dunlop, the author, about it today.
In this episode of We Booked It, Rose and Nichols discuss their personal interpretation of the prompt they gave themselves for the episode. We're less than a week away from Christmas Day and we don't know about you but we're definitely in the festive mood. While this episode won't see us going into full eggnog and sleigh-bell sound effects mode, we're certainly offering a nod in the Christmas direction. Our book choice is one that we always rely on for the season – it's How To Drink At Christmas from Victoria Moore. As for our product choices, we'd be incredibly happy to unwrap either of these bottles: Bellamie Cherry Liqueur Aperitif, and Aultmore Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky Cask Finish Collection. Our bar choice is a modern classic at any time of the year but particularly comes into it own for a cosy winter drink or two, it's Satan's Whiskers in East London. Finally, our guest shares her profound knowledge of all things agave, gives some excellent gifting suggestions and tells us the tequila she'd like to find in her stocking this year – it's the wonderful Gaby Moncada. For more from The Cocktail Lovers, visit thecocktaillovers.comFor the products featured in this episode, see websites below:What we're mixing:Wild Turkey Festive Cheer40ml Wild Turkey 10110ml ginger liqueur5ml maple syrup4 dashes Angostura BittersMethod:Combine all ingredients in a mixing jar, add ice, and stir until well chilled. In what has become a time honored tradition, my wife and I spend the first Saturday morning in December wrestling with a Christmas tree. And for the twentieth year in a row we hope to accomplish our goal – to move our artificial bundle of joy from our attic's crawl space to the centerpiece of our living room.Serving as the soundtrack for our sloppily choreographed annual rite of passage this year will be a new Christmas album just out from Anthony Evans.Titled “The Greatest Gift”, this nine-track recording features new arrangements of holiday classics and original songs Evans wrote and produced for major network features.Evans reminisces, “Some of my most favorite memories include the holidays and the music associated with them. I hope that this album brings joy to whoever is listening as well as reminds them that through the birth of our Savior, we truly have been given The Greatest Gift."Evans joins us to talk about his favorite memories as well as why he wanted to make an album that blended classic carols with new original Christmas music. Listen as he breaks down several of the new songs and explains their meaning.
