    Computerized Advice; Follow Your Passion?

Another TV show where the experts do more harm than good for a 20-something who doesn't know what he is passionate about. In this episode, I talk about: Computers and Experts are wrong Sane advice if you don't know your passion What it feels like when you do Transcript: Hello everyone. Welcome to The Path to 1 million. This is episode 213. So yeah, there's a lot of ice this last weekend. A lot of snow, the the back roads of where we live, we're ridiculously treacherous. And if you add to that, the fact that my coughing and my sickness actually got a lot worse. And then on top of that I was trying to take care of Sherry making her the priority for over the weekend. So I apologize for not getting any episodes out over the last four or five days, but I want to get back on track this week from doing it cause I really do love these things. Anyways. the reason why I'm sharing the story that I want to share with you guys today is I was watching on the TV last week and I can't remember which shell, but it was just another one of these shows where there was like a young person that was on there and he was trying to figure out what, you know, what he wanted to do with his life or you know, what he wanted to, you know, get his degree in or maybe a business, you should start something along those lines. And of course all these experts on there were asking him what he was passionate about and he kept saying, I don't know. I don't know. And they're at that point in time when he said, I don't know, like any advice that they had for him completely fell apart. Cause then all of a sudden they were saying, well, if you knew what you were passionate about, then you could do this. Or they knew could do this. And they were trying to ask him questions to reveal like stuff that he was passionate about. And the thing is, he didn't know what he was passionate about enough anyways to like say, you know what, I'm passionate about frogs, so maybe I should get a degree in biology. You know? And he didn't know if he wanted to make that six year commitment or six year or eight year commitment, 10 year commitment to get his veterinary license if he wanted to go that far. And they kept pushing him. But all their advice was predicated on one simple concept. And that was, you have to know what you're passionate about. And it got me thinking of when I was back in high school, and I want to say this was in ninth grade, we took this thing that was called a MOIS test, a MOIS I believe it was what it was called, Michigan Occupational (Information System). Anyways, a computer that was supposed to be infinitely smarter than us would ask a series of questions. We would fill out those little bubbles on a sheet and we would turn it into the computer and the computer would come back and tell us, you know, these are professions, these are jobs that you would be good for. And so I remember when I filled mine out and it came back and I think it came back with like three professions came back with pilot, which I thought was really cool. Came back with aerospace engineer, which is kind of sort of what I was looking for and mortician which I didn't expect that, I didn't think I looked like lurch or anything else like that. So I couldn't understand why I would think that I had an interest in burying dead people, but I had no interest in, in following that business or that line of work. So that one kinda fell on the ground, but I know there was some kids in the class that they must had like 25 or 30 different careers to choose from. I had those three. That's what I remember. And I know that really at the end of the day, as much as I, I enjoy doing engineering as much as I enjoyed working at the different companies that I worked at and making the impact on the people that I did. You know, I would have to say that I don't really have any idea as to, you know, that being my true passion in life. Like something I get up in the morning and think about...

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 25, 2019 9:51

I had one simple goal: make it across the US.  What struck me is that even the simplest goals can be muddied down by other goals.  Like driving as fast as humanly possible.  This is the story of two people with similar goals ... and how one made it while the other did not. In this episode, I talk about: Driving in the desert The lead foot from nowhere Achieving (or not achieving) your goals. Transcript: Hey Everyone! Did you miss me? This is a path to 1 million episode, 183. I made it to Michigan and I think I slept probably collectively about 20 hours. What a drive! You know, it's interesting. I'm, I'm was just leaving the LA area out in California and when you get out there and you're on the 10 and you're headed East, there is literally nothing for miles. Literally nothing for miles. There's no billboards. There's no power cables. There's no, there's nothere's no cell towers. There's nothing, there's no exits, there's no McDonald's. There's nothing like literally like it is the, and I know it sounds ironic when you talk about in terms of describing the desert, but it literally is glacial. Once you get out there, there's like nothing and it's great to absolutely clear your mind. There's nothing going on out there. It's just, it's just, it's just expansive and it's almost like a, like a reprieve almost for your mind. And I was sitting there and I was driving down the, I was driving on the freeway. And typically when I'm driving, I'm very aware of the fact that there are police officers out there who would love to give you a ticket for speeding, which I'm not one of those people. I set my cruise control usually within five miles an hour of the speed limit. No more. So you know, I'm, I'm going on a freeway. The speed limit was, you know, let's say 70 miles an hour. My cruise control is set at 73, and as I'm going down the, the right lane on the, on this on this freeway, I'd come across this semi and this semi is going like maybe 65 or something. So anyways, I put them, I look at my rear view mirror. There's nobody behind me. I put on my left blinker, merge over into that lane as and as I'm in that lane and I'm getting up beside of him, now all of a sudden it occurs to me that, you know, something's different. Something has changed and I glance up in my rear view mirror and all I see are two headlights and the grill of this giant four by four truck, right. Guy came out of nowhere, did not see him and he just barreled right up behind me. I mean he was literally like maybe within one or two feet from my bumper. And if I had to hit the brakes for any reason or another, this guy would've been sitting in my back seat. And I was like really annoyed, really irritated about it. But you know, there's nothing I can do. Obviously he feels the need to speed. So at some point I make it past the truck and as I get past the truck, I moved merge back over and into the right hand lane and this four by four truck just blast right on by, you know, you could hear his engine screaming and stuff. And as he goes by, one of the things that I noticed was something that just caught my eye was like the circular yellow sticker that was on the back of his cap. And you know, and I was thinking, I was driving down the road and I was thinking of different topics, just letting my mind wander and it started getting me thinking about the, about goals and about objectives that you set for yourself. And a lot of times it's super easy to set a goal for yourself and then you start that goal with like kind of like what I will call side objectives. So for instance, my goal was to just make it across the U S as safely as possible, right? This other guy, his goal obviously was to get wherever he was going and do it as fast as possible. Right? It was just put his foot through the floor. So it's almost like you've got two competing goals there. One is actually to make it to your destination. The other one is to do it as quickly as possible...

How does my secret love affair tie in with my weight?  Good question.  For the longest time, I had no idea what I was missing.  Until I experienced it.  And how it would impact my life.  Here's my story. In this episode, I talk about: My first time How this impacts my weight What happens when I leave my love behind Transcript: Hello everyone! Welcome to the path to 1 million. This is going to be episode 173. I want to share a little bit of a story with you for this particular Friday. So I remember way back in the day, it was probably, well it wasn't probably, it was the first time that I flew to Europe. I went to Paris, I'd always been wanting to go, always wanted to see Paris. I, you know, had read books on it. I had maps of Paris. I was like all excited about it. So I make it to Paris. And one of the things that I was completely unprepared for was the fact that the food was going to taste so good. All my life I had grown up thinking that fuel, that food was just nothing more than a fuel source, just something that you just eat when you got hungry. But I was actually really surprised when I got over there and just, it just tasted so good. And I remember more than once during a meal that it actually felt like I was having a foodgaism in my mouth. And I just was like, Oh my God, this is like totally awesome. And I remember on my first trip to Europe, I was actually gone for three weeks. So I really got a chance to sample a bunch of different foods, different kinds of cuisines. I actually absolutely fell in love with sauces because growing up my only sauce that I ever had was gravy. But I absolutely fell in love with the different sauces that was offered. And so I remember when I came back to the States thinking to myself, I want to eat like this every day. That's what I thought. Cause there was a lot of people in France that could actually cook just as well as what you can get inside of restaurants. And so what this did is it actually put me on this path. I, and I didn't understand it or really know it at the time, but it put me on a path to the point where I was buying all my ingredients fresh. I wasn't buying anything boxed anymore. Like a staple of my diet through my twenties was shaken bank. You know, and that to me was like a different meal cause I could go to the aisle and I would see all the 'Shake 'N Bake' that were up there. And they had like at that time they had like five or six different flavors or something and I would buy one of each pack because that was one for every day of the week. And that's how I cook because you know, it's just fuel. Well when I didn't, I get until later on when this whole thing about processed foods became really popular was the fact that by default, by switching over and only cooking with ingredients that I could actually pronounce and say and, and actually cook with things that I know and keeping my, my cooking simple and focusing on, you know, whole ingredients versus processed and everything else. I managed to skip a lot of the foods out there that can actually make you gain weight. And what was interesting is that I was thinking back yesterday about all the times in my life where I had actually gained a lot of weight. And when I talk about a lot of weight, it's like maybe 25 pounds or something like that. And I know people have gained a lot more weight. But for me it got a little bit freaky when I gained 25 pounds because number one I had been 180 pounds for as long as I can remember. But number two, getting up there to like to two Oh five approaching almost to 10 that's when the doctor was telling me that my cholesterol numbers were through the roof and I needed to go on medication and all these other problems were popping up and something happened with my liver and everything else like that. So I had to go through all these tests and, and everything else. But the amazing thing is, is when I finally shed those, you know, 20 or 25 pounds,

I hated dodgeball.  I quit before I even showed up.  Why would I allow myself to quit?  I don't get it.  Here's my story. In this episode, I talk about Dodgeball Days My Quitting Strategy What I learned from it Resources: Miles Taylor from Spartan Spirit: https://youtu.be/yWGwussetCs Transcript: Good morning everyone. This is the Path to 1 Million. This is going to be episode 172 if we take a trip back in the, in the way back machine going back to my high school days and junior high days the days that I hated the most well let's take, let's let me clarify something here. I really wasn't into sports so much as a kid. I did love to play softball when I was little, but I really wasn't much into sports. I didn't have any coordination, didn't have any strength. I wasn't interested in doing it. I actually spent most of my time writing. But sports and activities are much of, you know, any kids life, especially in school. And during one of those years, I want to say it was my freshman year. I think gym class was mandatory, so we had to take, I believe it was a semester of gym. It might've been an entire year, but at least it was a semester of gym. And the days that I hated the most in gym class was when the coach would walk in and he would look at us and he would say, all right, today we're going to play Dodge ball. And half the guys in the class would go bonkers. Right. There were crazy. They were stoked. They were just like, Oh my God, this is so awesome. This is so cool. And I hated it. I couldn't stand it. Every day the coach would come in and say that I would just drop my head and be like, Aw crap. Here we go again. Now at gym for Dodge ball, you know, the coach would always pick, you know, the two athletes start rocking guys and be like, okay, you guys are going to be team captains. So they would go back and forth and they would pick the kids in the class. And of course I was always one of the last ones to be picked, if not the last one picked because I just simply, you know, everybody knew that it wasn't, and he got a Dodge ball, you know, so I was always one of the last ones that were picked and we would go through this and of course then the coach would always turn and be like, no matter what team I was on, he would point to my team and be like, you guys are skins. So that means that we would all have to take our shirts off. So if it wasn't bad enough that I sucked, I now had to expose my skin and bone body to the entire world. So we would get up there and we would start playing Dodge ball. And we had those those red rubber balls, like almost like a burgundy color. And they had like these little stubbles on them or whatever it was. So when the ball actually hit your skin, it felt like it was tearing the flash off. I mean, it just, it stung. And at the end of the at the end of the Dodge ball session, you, you had red welts all over your body. It was just, it just hurt. It was painful. And I didn't like to do it cause I wasn't any good at throwing the balls. I wasn't, and you got to catching the balls. I wasn't good at anything. And so what would happen is, is that we would play one of these games and of course all the good people would, would be out within the first few minutes of it. Right? Cause they're engaged, they're on the front line, they're throwing the balls, they're like, you know, 10 feet away. And I was always in the back hiding. I was flat against the wall that I can potentially be. Balls are flying back far back and forth. And then finally it would wind up where you would have 10 people left on each team and you know, a lot of them were just like me. You know, they really didn't want to be there and they didn't want to play. They didn't want to do it. But you know, you still gotta play, you gotta play until somebody wins. And of course everybody on the line is cheering you on or like come on, come on, come on. If I did manage to get, get my hands on a ball,

Many times, life has presented me with 2 paths.  One path, I already know.  It is well worn.  But what about the other path?  Here's my story. In this episode, I talk about: Understanding why I always chose the same path Why I started choosing a new path What makes me happy Transcript: Good morning everyone. Welcome to the Path to 1 million. This is going to be episode 171. Yesterday I am clicking around on YouTube because I could barely lift my arms from doing all these burpees all the time. I'm clicking around on YouTube and there's a video on the Tim Ferris channel. And if you don't know who Tim Ferriss is, he's got the number one rated podcast on iTunes and he interviews like the best world class performers thought leaders in in the world. So I'm watching this seven minute segment where he's interviewing Dr. Maté and they're talking about, they're talking about being able to heal yourself. And Dr. Maté said something that I thought was really interesting in the interview. He said, "We don't react to what has happened. We react to our perception of what happened." And that really spoke volumes to me because there's been so many times in the life where, you know, I have been faced with the decision or a choice, like do I go down Path A or do I go down Path B? And a lot of the times the my habits, my perceptions will often dictate which path that I will walk down. And there's no such thing as a, you know, the right path or the wrong path or anything else like that because, you know, I'm just not wired to, you know, do something that's like illegal or something. But whenever it's come to a choice in life that I've had to make going down pathway or path B, I've been noticing these patterns and I want to talk to you a little bit about some of these things that I've noticed. So, you know, one of the big, one of the big things that I've realized is that the, my ability to travel and for the longest time when I was in my twenties I had this vision in my head that, you know, I would love to go to Europe. I would love to go to Paris. I've always wanted to see Paris, but I was always waiting for that special someone to be there and go with me. Right? So, you know, as I'm waiting for the special someone to show up and I'm like, you know, I date somebody for like maybe a month or six weeks or something and it would just fall apart. And it just kept going, kept going, kept going. There was one day where once again I'm faced with this decision, right? It comes up in front of me again and I have this decision and path a is I, you know, I continued to wait for somebody special or path B is that I just go, you know, throw caution to the wind and go by myself. I mean people, people travel all the time by themselves. I actually met people who prefer to travel by themselves rather than travel with someone. And so I remember I made it to that point where I was like, you know what? I know that I've already done path a and I've done path a quite a number of times. I didn't get exactly where I wanted to go, so now I'm just going to go try path B. So, you know, I bought a plane ticket, I packed my bags and I went and I traveled there by myself. Now what's interesting is that, you know, the, the more than I travel, the more that I experienced, the more that I love it. But when I do think back of all the times that I've traveled and all the adventures that I've had, I, it seems to me that all the adventures that I really love and the adventures that I've written about and I've shared about on Facebook and I've made it into my travel log and that continued to really stick with me are the ones where I actually had somebody with me on that journey. So it's nice to know that I'm no longer restrained in the fact that, you know, if I want to travel somewhere by myself, I certainly can and I will have a fantastic time, no doubt about that. But the better adventures always take place when there is, you know,

People have been asking about my dad.  This last weekend, a family situation came up that forced me to make a tough decision.  Which turned out to be the right decision.  Here's the story. In this episode, I discuss The Power of Why Update on my dad The family reunion Transcript: Good morning everyone. Welcome to the path to 1 million. This is going to be episode 170. I've gotten a couple of notes, a couple emails from people every now and then. People will ask me when we're trending on the phone, what the situation with my dad is. So I just wanted to just wanted to talk about that. And of course, when you know there's a onset of dementia or onset of Alzheimer's it's just a gradual decline, downhill. He's still doing fine as long as he's home and he's in his environment. He's actually quite happy. The good news is, is that my dad's kids are up from Georgia and they've been helping out with dad and mom around the house making like little repairs or you know, his daughter has been doing a lot of cooking, which has helped mom out a lot around there. So at least I know that they're eating more than rice for dinner, which is always a good thing. But that was just something that you know, as we go by and I'm always asking how dad is doing and stuff and, you know, mom is you know, mom's keeping a stiff upper lip about the whole thing and stuff, which is good. She's kind of like become the de facto leader of the family. Of course, I can't imagine my, I can't imagine my mom not being the leader of the family, but, you know, she's the one that's making all the decisions. And speaking of decisions something came up this last weekend that I wanted to chat about. Obviously, as I said before, my mom is like super excited that I'm moving back to Michigan. Every time I talked to her on the phone, she is just absolutely astatic. She's like, Oh, it's going to be so nice that you're here and I'm going to feel so much better and stuff. And I'm like, you know, it's, it's great. And I'm glad that they're excited. And she made a comment to me this last weekend that she was like all excited that they would, that, you know, we could spend Thanksgiving together. And when she made that comment to me, it didn't register right away, but I started thinking about it over the weekend. And yesterday I made a decision and what I wanted to talk about here was making these tough decisions. The thing is, is that, you know, like I said before, my dad's kids are up visiting from Georgia. They're helping him and taking care of mom and dad. And my dad also has a daughter who lives in the Chicago area. And before in the past they would periodically take trips over to Chicago and spend time with the sister who lives in Chicago. So, you know, one of the things that I thought about was the fact that, well, if it's Thanksgiving and if my dad's kids are here, then they should go to Chicago. And of course this means that if I tell mom that, then we won't be spending Thanksgiving together. So, you know, one of the things I had to think about was, you know, how am I gonna approach this? You know, how am I gonna think about this? Because, you know, the thing is, is that when it comes to making these kinds of decisions, whether it's, you know, a tough decision or actually any kind of decision whatsoever, sometimes I have to revert back to my why and the why is the big thing. You know, and my, my thing that I've said, whenever I've done these Facebook lives or I've done any of my writing or postings on Facebook or on LinkedIn has always been, you know, being able to define that why and why. And while I may not be able to articulate it using words, I do always have it in the back of my head. And my goal has always been to, to inspire people, you know, and live through example and to, you know, have them go beyond, you know, what it is that they think they can do or to inspire them to be better in their mind, body, business,

Answers elude you?  Can't figure out how to solve a problem?  For me, sometimes I find the answers in the least, most unlikely places.  By doing something completely different and unrelated. In this episode, I talk about: Watching Documentaries Taking small side trips Finding Answers in Unlikely Places Transcript: Good morning everyone. This is the path to 1 million. This is going to be episode 169 yesterday after I did my Sunday fun day talking about that particular topic there Sherry and I had a conversation and I said, you know, what we should do is when I get back to Michigan is that we should make it a point to watch a documentary every week. And she said something that I thought was really cool and she said, well, what we could do is make sure that every week, you know, each one of us can pick a different documentary to watch. So that way I can get exposed to, you know, new ideas or watched documentaries that I would never watch before. And I thought that was actually a very intriguing concept because it reminded me of the fact that human beings as human beings, it seems that we're built on patterns. And in my life I've noticed that I seem to get into these patterns where I kind of watched the same kind of things all the time. I'll go and watch the same YouTube videos all the time. I'll read the same kind of books all the time. So even like the other day I was talking about throughout several of the episodes from a, from previously before, like one 64 and one 65 I talked about this climbing K2 documentary. And I mentioned before that I absolutely love watching these documentaries about these guys who climb these, the climbing these mountains and the challenges that they have to endure both mentally and physically to be able to climb these mountains. And you know, what happened is sure enough, when I got done watching that documentary about climbing mountains, I started watching another documentary about climbing mountains. So this one wasn't quite as good as the other ones though. But anyways, I watched this video on this documentary and it occurred to me that, you know, I'm stuck in this pattern of watching the same kind of things all the time rather than randomly picking something new. And it's always occurred to me that whenever I do that, whenever I go and do something different or you know, consume a different piece of content or pick up a book that I normally would not read or go to an art gallery or go to some kind of a store that I would never go to before. It's always opened up my mind to new possibilities. But the only way that my mind is open to those new possibilities is if I break that old pattern. So for instance, an example, this would be yesterday my, my plan for yesterday was to sit around the house and, you know, we continue working on packing and all this other stuff and the truth be told, I am so burned out on packing. It's not even funny. And so it's like when you get burned out on somethings like, man, I don't want to do it. And, you know, just keep doing, following the same pattern over and over and over again. And so yesterday I made a trip to some store in LA to actually go out and to buy some things for Sherry's daughter. It's a store that's owned by this rapper. His name is Tyler. He has an alternate ego named Igor. I have no clue who this guy is. I've never listened to any of his music. I don't know anything about this guy, but I went up there just so like it gave me a chance to get out of the house, go someplace new and actually do something that was a little bit different. And just from doing that alone and just like being in the store, I mean there was like a, there's like this bodyguard or this doorman out front. And he would only let a certain number of people into the store. And if you, you know, if there was too many people in the store, they would actually kick people out. They would actually say, sorry. Too many people in the store.

My journey is mind, body, business, relationships ... and the recently added spiritual.  I challenge my body, which in turn challenges my mind.  But what about my spirit?  Here's my story. My spiritual 30 day challenge How I train myself to do this challenge What's the Payoff? Transcript: Hello everyone. Welcome to Sunday fun day. The Path to 1 Million, this is going to be episode 168. So I want to talk a little bit about a side challenge that well it's really not a side challenge that I'm doing. I was going to call it a side challenge but it's not cause any, anytime that I challenged myself to do something over a certain period of time is a challenge. So the other day, as many of you are aware, I started my 3000 burpee challenge. I posted a video about that. And I got it up there and thank you for all the likes, comments on that video. I really do appreciate it. But another challenge that I started this month is cause remember when I'm doing these challenges and I'm on this journey, this 1% journey, it's always about mind, body, business relationships, and a good friend of mine, Ulrich posted on here that it's mind, body, business, relationships and spiritual. And I realized that I should be also taken on challenges that that forced me to explore these other areas of my life. Meaning, you know, one of them being the spiritual side. And because I sit down and watch church once a week, I don't know if that's really challenging on my spiritual side or not. Maybe it is for some people not me, but I do get a lot of benefit out of it. So anyways my spiritual challenge that I'm taking on for the month of November, first time ever is this every single day I write down three things that I am grateful for. It's something that's an exercise that I do at night before I go to bed. And ironically, that's why I picked the color green because when I put green on my pillow, I could actually see it and remember to do it. If not, I'll usually just crawl into bed and I remember I have to write something or there's some kind of YouTube video that I want to watch. But anyway, so I started this challenge, actually I started it about a week ago, but the whole goal is to write down three things every single day that I am grateful for. Now, the conditions of this, when I started this challenge when I started this exercise was that I, I could not be generic when I wrote down what it is that I am grateful for. I had to put it like very specifically, like for instance, I could not say that, you know, I'm grateful for my health, right? Cause that's way too generic. I have to actually list down and say what specifically about my health am I grateful for? So, for instance, if I'm thinking about my health in terms of running, well, what did I accomplish that day in terms of running that I am grateful for? So, for instance, you know, last week when I ran, you know, rather than write down, I'm, you know, grateful for my health or I'm grateful that I can run, I actually specifically put, I am grateful that I completed a 5k in, under 30 minutes. Right? So I'm very specific about what it is and I'm acknowledging to, I'm acknowledging to God, I'm acknowledging the universe that that, you know, number one, every single day is a gift. I really do believe that. But number two, I accomplished something that day that I am grateful for. And I'm acknowledging, you know, the higher power, the higher being that Hey, this is something that's very special to me. Thank you for allowing me to, to experience it. You know, cause running that 5k and under 30 minutes put me on cloud nine for literally like days cause I just didn't think I could do it. So I always give thanks for those, for those things, you know, and thinking myself. You know, other things that I put in here is you know, I am grateful for root beer floats because a, it reminds me of as a kid and being happy cause that was like my favorite ice cream treat of all times.

Watching a great documentary on Hulu called "Climbing K2: Beyond the Comfort Zone".  I love watching mountain climbing journeys because of the adventure just getting there. In this episode, I talk about Climbing K2 Adventures in Traveling The Journey is almost better than the destination Resources: Hulu - Climbing K2: Beyond the Comfort Zone Transcript: Good morning everyone. Welcome to this episode of the Path to 1 Million. This is going to be episode 167. I apologize for the late addition going out today. Apparently if you do 100 burpees, it actually really wears you out. I did my a hundred burpees yesterday. Actually. I felt fine. Had a lot of energy throughout the day, which is good cause I needed it. And when I went down last night, Holy sweet Moses, smell the roses. Did I go down? My alarm went off at about 3:30 AM Pacific goes time this morning. And I went right back to sleep, woke up then about four o'clock. I called and talked to Sherry for a little bit and then I put the note on Facebook broadcast and this morning and boom, I was, as soon as I posted it, I was gone. Like literally gone. Like literally like I won't go like 20 minutes ago. And I'm like, Oh crap, I gotta get shower. I got to do Facebook live. So I wanted to talk a little bit about I wanted to talk a little bit about something. So last night I was watching this documentary on Hulu and it's called K2 and out of your comfort zone, and it's this group of, there's Swiss climbers, there's German climbers. I, there's some guy from Finland that's on the team and their ultimate goal is to go and climb K2 and K2 is in the middle of Pakistan. If you know anything about a mountain climbing, I love watching these mountain climbing documentaries, love, love, love them. It's actually my bucket list item. I want to go to like the base camp of Mount Everest. I think that would be just a totally cool journey. Anyways, so these guys want to go and at the very beginning of the documentary, the leader of this expedition says, you know, we could get on a flame plane and you know, we could leave out of Geneva and just fly to Pakistan and they go climb the mountain. He goes, but what fun is there in that? So him and these other guys, they have these, all these Mercedes, these alternating vehicles kind of like, they almost look like Humvees, like high end Humvees or something. And they pack them full of gear pack and full equipment. And they just, they drive, they track and they've, they left Switzerland and they went up through the Ukraine and they'd go up to Latvia and they were in Russia, which just seems like every police officer in Russia is crooked, but they come down and then they start going through you know, all these like different countries on the map. And finally they're in Pakistan, but they're showing their journey along the way and all the obstacles that they have to, you know, they have to overcome. They haven't even made it to K2 yet. And we're about 45, 50 minutes into the documentary and it's just showing all the challenges that they got in it. There's like some areas where like, especially in Pakistan, they don't even have like really good quality roads. So a lot of the time these these Mercedes all-terrain vehicles, they get stuck, they get stuck in the sand. They get stuck in the rocks. There was one point where there was like a flood through the area and the road completely disintegrated. And you know, all the local people that are there, they're, you know, they're not out, you know, protesting and say, Oh, the government needs to take care of us and all this other stuff. They actually created a little business and they, they got these little boats where they can ferry cars across the Lake. And so these guys with these big monster, huge Mercedes, somehow or another get their Mercedes onto these little tiny boats. And you know, they get 'em across there and they were all commenting like, yeah,

Path to 1 Million Ep. 166: Being Bad in order to Be Great

When it comes to my body, I'm bad.  Physical health is a challenge for me.  But I do it anyways.  Because it drives home an important life lesson.  You have to be bad in order to be good. In this episode, I talk about: Retrospective on doing the 25x5k challenge What physical challenge is next for me How my body impacts the other areas of my life Transcript: Good Morning, everyone. Welcome to the Path to 1 Million. This is going to be episode 166. So today is November 1st. I completed my 25 by 5k challenge. And I know I've talked about that a lot lately. What I've been thinking about over the past few days is what I'm going to do for my next body challenge. The reason why I spent so much time and effort thinking about these body challenges is because really overall in my life being on this 1% journey is about focusing on all the areas because I really do believe that all the areas of your life are interconnected. Mind, body, business, relationships. I recently added spiritual to that list as well. So what can I do on a daily basis that's going to help me to improve on these main areas of my life? So when taking a look at the next challenge that I want to do. Yesterday one of my good friend of mine, Ryan posted a note and asked me if I was going to do this GRIT challenge. Now I belong to this monthly group of marketing, entrepreneurs these misfits that we don't really fit anywhere else together, but we fit really good together. And they started doing this thing called a GRIT challenge where every single day the physical trainer in our group, CJ releases a new set of exercises for our people to be able to go out there and complete these every single day. It's something different. Sometimes the exercises are something that you can do in your home. Sometimes you have to go to a park. Sometimes you have to find like, one of the challenges was to run uphill and do some kind of burpees, challenges or things like that. I really thought about signing up for that cause I thought it'd be really cool. 28 day challenge to do. And my only problem is is that during the month of November, there's going to be a four or five day stretch where I'm moving, I, I'm thinking of, you know, here I am, I'm in the middle of Texas or I'm in Oklahoma or Missouri or whatever state that I'm in while I'm in the process of moving, trying to find a rest area or a park or someplace else like that that matches the criteria of the challenge. And the thing is, is you have to do the challenges every single day. You can't skip a day. If you, if you skip a day, if you don't post, if you don't put your stats up there, they kick you out. Right. That's, that's one of the rules of being in this 28 day challenge. It's, it's a pretty high bar to meet and I would absolutely love to push myself to meet that challenge, but I just don't think I can do it because moving across the country is going to be stressful enough. I'm going to have enough on my mind as I'm moving without having to worry about trying to find a park or a rest area or someplace that I can go to actually, you know, meet these criteria. So the thing is is like what can I do over the next 30 days? Cause I still want to do a challenge, right? These, these challenges have become very important to me for the reason that it drives home a very key lesson that I learned in life. And actually I'm reading a book right now that's called Copywriting Secrets because I do want to get better at writing copy at being able to write better messaging that is going to take clients that is going to take clients of clients and get them to take some kind of an action. Whether that's to sign up for something or to schedule an appointment or, or buy a service or whatever that is. But I want to get a lot better at copy writing. And I had some experience at that earlier this year. I fell in love with it, so I want to get better. But what's interesting is that with that whole speech right there inside of ...
