This week's episode is all about my continued love affair with Stardew Valley, with a little bit of Forza Horizon 6 on the side.

Hercules and Love Affair is an electronic music project created in 2004 by DJ, producer and songwriter Andy Butler. Originally formed in New York City, the act became known for blending classic disco, Chicago house, techno and synth-pop into emotionally charged dance music with an art-pop sensibility. Rather than functioning as a traditional band, Hercules and Love Affair operates as a rotating collective of vocalists, musicians and collaborators, with Butler remaining the project's central creative force.  The project remains at the forefront of queer dance music culture in the UK and beyond and in our own opinion, remains pivotal for the fact that there has been no bowing or amenity towards fads or trends.  They returned at the tail end of 2025, now as we approach summer a new remix package has been announced which includes contributions from the likes of Ciel, Luke Solomon and Mystery Affair. However, as mentioned above, their connection to the underground and origins of the sound has afforded them the rare privilege of a remix from none other than Larry Heard under the Mr Fingers alias.  In celebration of this, here is a rare mix from Hercules and Love Affair, a homage to house music and the direction of travel as we proceed.

Felicity Volk served as the Australian Ambassador to Nepal from 2021 to 2024 and is now involved with the Australian Himalayan Foundation (AHF), an organisation dedicated to charitable work in the Himalayas. Today a new segment of Countermelody Conversations that has been months in the offing! One of the ineffable delights of hosting Countermelody over the years is the connection it has brought me with my listeners, fans, and subjects, including some extraordinary (and sometimes famous) musicians and people. One of the podcast's most devoted fans is a man that I have held in adulation for years: pianist and educator Steven Blier, co-founder of the New York Festival of Song, now concluding its 38th season. Powered by Blier's vision, musical insight, and an intrepid sense of stretching boundaries, NYFOS has revolutionized the genre of the song recital. Last November, Steven's extraordinary memoir, From Ear to Ear: A Pianist's Love Affair with Song, was published to great acclaim by W.W. Norton. A few years ago I, as the host of Countermelody, received a fan letter from this man whom I have admired for decades. Since then, I pay him a visit whenever I return to New York and have also taken in every NYFOS concert I possibly can. Brendan Banfield is accused of conspiring with his 'au pair love affair' Juliana Peres Magalhaes to get rid of his wife, Christine Banfield. Prosecutors say the calculated murder plot led to an unsuspecting victim, Joseph Ryan, entering the Banfield home in February 2023 with a knife. He thought he was about to have a consensual experience with Christine, pre-planned through a BDSM website. In reality, he'd been chatting with Brendan and Juliana, who were waiting to burst into the home and take out the "intruder". Brendan Banfield is accused of stabbing his wife, Christine, to death after shooting Joseph Ryan. Juliana Peres Magalhaes has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with Ryan's death, and will testify at Banfield's upcoming murder trial as apart of her deal.
