Most self-help advice makes me cringe. Vision boards, “manifesting,” and the whole daily affirmation thing? Yeah, I've always put that in the woo-woo category. But lately, I've been stuck in my head, wrestling with self-doubt, perfectionism, and the classic case of overthinking everything. So I decided to try something that made me deeply uncomfortable: staring at myself in the mirror and saying things like “I am enough.” And no, I didn't spontaneously combust from secondhand embarrassment. In this episode, I test daily affirmations for a week, even the corny ones, and rope my wife into writing a few that are, well, questionable at best. For more go to: www.scottmlynch.comLevel up your life by joining my Patreon where you'll get exclusive content every week and more badass offerings (rips t-shirt in half, Hulk Hogan style, and runs around the room). Episode Summary: In this engaging episode of Life After Kids, Dr. Brooke and Dr. Lynne dive into the topic of building confidence at any stage of life. They begin by reflecting on how personal experiences and shared interactions with their audience shape the themes they explore. This episode centers around understanding confidence, distinguishing it from self-worth, and discovering practical strategies for fostering both. As Dr. Lynne puts it, "Confidence is a doing; it comes from action," emphasizing that building confidence involves more than just a mindset. The doctors delve into two primary ways to cultivate confidence: keeping promises to oneself and stepping out of one's comfort zone. By staying true to commitments, whether big or small, individuals can validate their capabilities and prioritize self-development. Moreover, the discussion turns toward the significance of taking risks and welcoming failure as an opportunity for growth. Dr. Brooke shares her personal journey of joining a challenging business group that enhanced her confidence, highlighting the importance of putting oneself in a stretch zone. Key Takeaways: Confidence Building: Confidence stems from keeping promises to oneself and consistently stepping out of comfort zones. Defining Confidence vs. Self-Worth: Confidence is action-oriented, while self-worth is about inherent value; both are essential in personal growth. Role of Faith: Finding self-worth through faith can be a powerful avenue for personal validation and confidence. Growth Through Failure: Embracing failure as part of the success journey contributes significantly to confidence building. Practical Application: Encourage your older children to find confidence by allowing them to navigate challenges independently, thereby gaining valuable life skills. https://enlighteninglife.com/may-2025-energy-report/As I have said in the past, May is a month whose name poses a statement or a question – I Ma ! or May I? – in which we can either ask for permission or make a bold and direct intention. Consider the difference in how you approach a choice you have to make. Do you state your intention boldly and clearly or ask those around you whether they think it's a good idea? In May we have bold energy that can inspire action that is aligned with our deepest intention if we have the courage to make clear statements of direction instead of waiting for the right moment. This is going to be a powerful and interesting month and traditionally May is known as the month in which the flowers bloom and that is what is happening in my garden. After 7 years of work, my garden is finally settling in and blooming beautifully. Gardening is an exercise in patience, work, trial and error, and negotiation. If you put plants in the wrong place, they won't thrive. If things change in the garden – like my neighbor's two trees that fell into my yard 3 years ago during a strong storm, knocking down 2 of my trees and completely changing the light landscape, you have to rework your garden layout. Some plants just don't grow;, others, like day lilies, cannas, and irises, grow so much that you have to thin them out every few years or they will take over your garden completely, choking out and stifling everything else.If you don't like where certain plants are, you have to dig them out and place them somewhere else. This is what May is going to be like. We have been on the ascension path for decades and now that we are coming to the fork in the road, a pivot point, it is time for us to take an inventory of our energetic resources and make sure that they are placed where we can grow and thrive.Read the rest of the article on the blog at enlighteninglife.com Created, narrated, and produced by Jennifer Hoffman.Artwork by Jennifer Hoffman.Copyright (C) 2004-2025 by Jennifer Hoffman, all US and international rights reserved.Visit enlighteninglife.com for more information. Please note our policies regarding copyright infringement, content misuse, and theft of intellectual property. What would you do if you had to start over in a new country, far from everything familiar? Amy Dott Harmer has spent a decade answering that question—not for herself, but for thousands of refugees in Utah. As Executive Director of Utah Refugee Connection, Amy shares what it's like to truly show up for people who have lost everything, and how dancing awkwardly in a circle of refugee women taught her one of her most important lessons about empathy, connection, and courage. In this episode of Uncomfy, host Julie Rose joins Amy Dott as she reflects on the joy and heartbreak of her work, the persistent misunderstandings around refugee, immigrant, and asylum status, and how, more and more, her efforts to serve and advocate have started to feel political in ways they didn't before.
