Our good friend, Ryan Hawk, joins the podcast. He runs the "Hawkey Talk With Ryan Hawk" podcast. We discuss mental health in sports, which leads to personal anecdotes. The new divisional realignment in the NHL is discussed at length, and we wonder why the Edmonton Oilers can't seem to win a cup with both McDavid and Draisaitl on their roster.
Today we are joined by another one of our best friends, Gord Parsons. He talks about his past life as a McDonalds employee, fast food portion sizes, and various sports talk. Don't miss this one!
Today we are joined by one of our best friends, Matt Dudley. Stories will be had and old beef shall be unearthed. Peace and love.
We'd like to welcome back Mark Sargent to the show. Mark is the star of the Netflix series, "Behind The Curve." Self-explanatory on that one. He goes on a few rants, but maybe you'll hear something interesting. Various JFK theories are discussed: magic bullet, driver-shooter, grassy knolls, Lee Harvey Oswald & the Umbrella Man. The rabbit hole has deepened.
We're joined by Austen Alexander! A large Tik Tok, Instagram & YouTube star. Austen discusses his comedic viewpoint, a new TV show that he's pitching, his DAD clothing company & underrepresented birds. This can include various birds such as the Blue Heron. Loons are a tad too represented in today's Canadian culture, and Austen is aiming to change that. Change your perspective, change your life. Blue Herons over Loons.
Mike cooks up some pancetta, pasta & heats up some alfredo sauce. The result is magnificent.
Colin Mulvey joins us today on the Side Of Ranch Podcast. Colin is a former professional hockey player who played in the ECHL. He tells us some stories about "riding the pine," and how he escaped from a professional hockey team in Germany. It's a riveting story you won't want to miss. Colin is also the owner of VORA Fashion House. He is an exciting individual with an entrepreneur-type mindset. We really enjoyed this one.
On today's episode of the Side of Ranch Podcast, we are pleased to have on a very special and ULTRA talented guest, Ultra Marathon runner Courtney Dauwalter. First episode in quite some time ... ENJOY!
Today we are joined by Tommy Boylan of the Just Talk Podcast. We chat about a multitude of topics that you just might find interesting. Enjoy the Nicolas Cage tidbits in this one!
On today's episode Mike and I discuss our admiration for fast food and how the Popeye's Original Chicken Sandwich is the best-tasting fast food chicken sandwich ever. We chat about our mutual love for our hero Nicholas Cage and how now in the twilight of his career everything he touches is absolute "hot garbage." We end our conversation discussing the epic collapse of the Vegas Golden Knights and chat a bit about the Vancouver Canucks' bright future! More guests incoming!
Today we are joined by Russell Kennedy! Russell is a longtime friend of ours, and we've been itching to have him on the show. Russell talks about his past experiences in Texas as a former college baseball player. Trust us, you won't want to miss his stories (his coach, namely). He also talks about his time as a baseball coach in British Columbia, Canada. Russell is a breath of fresh air - and very genuine. This isn't one you want to miss. Enjoy!
Today we are joined by Mitch Robinson, draft pick of the New York Yankees. Mike and Ben chat with Mitch and inquire into his start into baseball, the importance of family in his development (on and off the diamond) and what an average day looks like for a professional baseball player. Mitch enlightens us with his early start in sports knowing he was better than the average Yogi Berra (Ben apologizes for the terrible dad joke), discusses playing and performing at a high level, and what his future holds! Will our WYR stump Mitch? Find out!
The second episode in the Pathfinder series. Odin & Silas embark on new adventures...
Today we have another guest on the Podcast, Carl Scheele, who is the individual famously known for discovering bleach. Carl discusses how he came across this compound in his early years of laboratory work in Austin, Texas and wowed scientific minds across the globe. Carl explains his beginnings, how he became a scientist and what a humbling experience it is to work with the brilliant minds of the future. Carl was born without thumbs in 1923 and we were fortunate enough that he was able to speak as he's quite senile. It's extraordinary for someone so senile to invent something so septic. Carl currently works in Fiji and diagnoses patients remotely with trenchfoot. We end the episode with a WYR that causes freezerburn on his toes.
Today we dive into the world of Bond. We are greeted by a Voice Message from The Hockey Minute that spurs a lengthy discussion about who are our top 2 picks to play the suave, seductive and strong James Bond. We jump into the Bond movies as a whole and provide our takes on future villains as well. Chatting about Bond piques our interests into the world of Hollywood and how Ben believes there's no such things as an original script anymore. Mike disagrees.....and also gets hungry in the middle of the epi.
We are joined today by Vancouver's most recognizable sports radio voice: Jeff Paterson (aka. JPat). Jeff talks about his start in broadcasting and how he eventually ended up in Kamloops due to a last minute phone call. His passion for sports and his drive for success is evident in his speech. He talks the talk and walks the walk. Jeff is a consummate professional and is positive in his ambitions. Jeff discusses the Vancouver Canucks and what they need to do to beat the St. Louis Blues. Ben ends off this one with a Would You Rather that goes surprisingly well.
This is a new mini-series that we are premiering here on the Side of Ranch Podcast. We will be playing Pathfinder while our good friend Nick Bridle guides and narrates our journey as the DM. Join us as we create our characters, learn about the origins of Pathfinder and jump into the fantasy that is table top board games.
Jay Onrait stops by the Podcast (before broadcasting sports to Canada!) to chat about how he got his start in broadcasting, paying it forward in the industry and his experiences in the Canadian sports market. Mike and Ben ask Jay about his early start in broadcasting and how a friend with his video camera prepared and molded his on-screen chemistry with Dan O'Toole that you see today. We chat about his incredible experiences at TSN and how he views those he works with as a family, his thoughts on COVID-19 and the NHL, and he and Dan's stint in American Sports Broadcasting. Jay is incredibly humble, genuine, and honest. It's evident in this interview. We end off with a "Would You Rather" that he finds a tad too easy to answer. We tried.
We chat about new and exciting guests that are upcoming on the show. We're now booking guests into September 2020 (which is a first for us). The Vancouver Canucks are discussed at length about how they continue to struggle against the NHL's most mediocre team: The Minnesota Wild. Even though hockey is back, Game 1 was a point of frustration. We were also guests on the "Up and Adam Show" recently. We touch on Adam's genuineness and honesty as a podcast host. It was a good experience for us as it was the first time we have ever been podcast guests.
Don't worry everyone, we're still doing "Ben & Mike" episodes. We reflect on our last few guests, rip each other a bit more & chat about future projects. Stay tuned for more. We love you all.

We chat about how the NHL has been impacted by COVID-19. We also discuss the Vancouver Canucks, their promising prospect pool & what the future might hold for the team. Rick talks about his positive experiences at TSN & how he views it as a family. He finishes off the interview with multiple unsolicited chirps at one of his closest friends: Bob "The Moj" Marjanovich. "If you are passionate about something, it will shine through in your work." - Rick Dhaliwal
We are joined today by the super-talented & incredibly funny, Nick Smeriglio. Nick is known on the internet as a comedic impersonator. To steal directly from his Cameo bio (just to name a few), he is able to impersonate: Sebastian Maniscalco, Christopher Walken, Tony Soprano, Jack Nicholson, Ray Romano, Nacho Libre, Jon Lovitz, THOR, JFK, Arthur Shelby, Jimmy Stewart, NICKMERCS, Bill Clinton, & more! In addition to his expansive vocal talents, Nick is also a budding stand-up comedian with a passion for making people laugh. He is well known in Chicago as a mainstay at the "Second City Theatre." In a revealing anecdote, Nick attributes his many successes from his start in the spotlight. As is tradition, we end this episode with a "Would You Rather?" His response was as genuine as he was. There is a surprise visit from Tony Soprano, Littlefinger, & Lord Varys that you won't want to miss!
Today we are joined by a fellow Canadian (Triathlon Taren) with a passion for health, fitness & wellness. He owns a popular YouTube channel where he provides an unlimited amount of information and introspection in regards to triathlon training. We discuss various topics such as: triathlons, heart rate training, nutrition & supplementation. Taren then delves into the psychological aspects of training and how endurance is largely a mental battle within ourselves. Taren reminds us that triathlon training is something that everyone can improve on despite your skill/fitness level. As tradition goes, we end the episode with a triathlon-inspired "Would You Rather."
We are joined today by one of Tik Tok's biggest sensations, Trevor Abney. We discuss where he draws his inspiration from and how he "grinds" the social media game. Trevor has approximately 850,000 followers on Tik Tok, and has found a niche on the platform that has garnered him worldwide notoriety. He gives us some insight on how he invests his time into creating content, while still making time for things that are most important to him (volunteering, friends, family, etc). We dabble a bit in sports as Trevor is a major baseball fan and has played at the collegiate level in the USA. We pose a "Would You Rather" to Trevor that definitely does not stump him at all. The interview concludes with some words of encouragement and a wonderful synchronization of three magnificent voices...
We are joined in this episode by one of our closest friends, Mark Fleming. Mark owns the Instagram handle @YOC.CREATIONS where he posts his unique and introspective experiences. Such things include: drawings, creations, cooking, wellness, and various other pieces of inspiring information. He talks about his experiences at various Burning Man festivals, in addition to his psychedelic (hehe) experiences. We end the episode with a riveting cover of "Take Me Home Country Roads" by John Denver.
Many Lord Of The Rings voice impressions are unfortunately articulated. Ben brings up Tom Hardy once again while Mike weeps in the corner. Multiple fantasy TV shows were discussed. We tackle our thoughts and opinions from our interview with Mark Sargent. Mike ends the episode with a touching, yet, melodic tribute to Ben's dismay.
We are joined today by a world renowned conspiracy theorist and Flat Earth proponent, Mark Sargent. He is the star of the 2018 Netflix documentary, "Behind The Curve," where he articulates his perspectives on Flat Earth. We have an interesting and lengthy conversation about his various beliefs. We always appreciate hearing different ideas, whether we agree or not. We end this interview with a "Would You Rather" that he didn't see coming. His answer may surprise you.
We serenade you with our vocal spectrum. Ben does multiple voice impressions and Mike ruins it with a "Saturday Night Live" skit. Seriously, it was terrible. Ben had a one-on-one conversation with Mike about this afterwards. It did not go well. Things are patchy and sketchy now. It is uncomfortable to be in the same room as one another. Is this the end? We finalize this episode with some of our biggest pet peeves and social etiquette frustrations. Mike gets triggered on more than one occasion while Ben pours gasoline on the flames.
Mike seduces the audience with his mystical introduction. The complexities of acting are discussed at length. We talk about our most recently watched movies and shows. We attempt to start a "brand war" where we pit Maynards against Sleemans: Will Swedish Fish defeat the Honey Lager? Ben has a man crush on Mads Mikkelsen and goes off on a tangent about Quantum of Solace.
We've done it. We've reached "double digies." This couldn't have been possible without the help of you chicken tendies and pizza crusts. Thanks again for dipping into a little side of ranch. Mike is excited about his newest butt-cleaning technique. Ben becomes jealous and begins budgeting for a bidet as well. We discuss how we're going to approach the stinkiest fish in the world, in addition to the world's hottest gummy bear. Stay tuned for future guest appearances from various legends around the world.
It's been awhile since our last episode, but we're happy to get our feet wet once again. Synonyms for "friend" are discussed in an incredibly frustrating way (eg. bud, buddy, etc). We get into road rage experiences and exclamation mark usages. To finalize our discussion, we formulate a cure for COVID-19. Do we take the painful route, or the putrid, vomit-worthy road? What would you do?
Ben and Mike discuss what it's like to move into a new home for the first time. We take a few moments to thank all of you pizza crusts and chicken tendies for all of your support. We also announce a new podcast hosting location!
We start off this podcast with a voicemail from Xavier Rodriguez (creator of the "Brain Vomit" podcast). This spurs a lengthy discussion of healthy relationships, personal growth & the importance of genuineness. Ben fires back at Mike for his recent character assassination of Tom Hardy. Ben says that the Beatles are dull and simplistic. Mike gives Ben an unwanted music history lesson. We delve into Tik Tok, and Ben attempts an impression of his favorite content creator. We end this episode with our newest segment: "Would You Rather?"
We are joined by our guest, Erin, who just so happens to be Ben's wife. We used the "gift of gab" to chat about castles, a poisonous garden, and the beautiful country of Ireland. Ben gives us some insight into the greatest breakfast sandwich of all time, and Erin delves into her famous "Guinness pour" story.
We're getting better each and every day. Mike hated this episode.
To our Germanic listener (or bot). This is for you. This is for literally nobody else. Why are you still here? Stop reading this description. Seriously, please don't leave us.
We learn more about our brethren who is located in a small village in Germany. We talk a bit about mobile gaming and the greatest actor of our generation (according to Ben), Leonardo DiCaprio.
COVID-19 is discussed at length (unfortunately). We delve into our newfound Tik Tok addictions and our mutual admiration for Al Pacino.
Our very first "podcast." We slosh through words. We try to find our way. Is this episode hot garbage? Absolutely.
