Podcast by Silver Screamers
Conor joins forces with friend and co-host Brian to take one last ditch attempt at overcoming the Final Frontier that is Paul's apathy towards Star Trek - can they succeed? Stay tuned - Qapla'!!
After some time away (partially because of technical issues, partially because Paul couldn't bring himself to do another Star Trek podcast!), we are back and delving into the movie which was the send off for the best Star Trek crew of all time. Unfortunately, this send off doesn't leave us with tears in our eyes, but rather unanswered questions and puzzled faces. Enjoyable, but forgettable - enjoy our chat about Star Trek Nemesis!
We are the podcast, lower your expectations and surrender your ears - we will add your listenership and distinctiveness to our own - your comments will adapt to service us - resistance is futile.....
Space - the final frontier - these are the screams of the star ship Silverprise - its continuing mission to explore movies, to seek out new genres and decades - to boldly go where no podcast has gone before! It's Star Trek season and in the first of this awesome series that everyone has been waiting for we are joined by friend of the podcast Ger to help us delve into the Wrath Of Khan! Enjoy!
Forget the Oscars - you've got the Screamies! An old friend of Silver Screamers, Ashwin, reprises his role to help us look back at some of the best and worst movies of 2020! With some very special guest appearances, sit back, relax, get some popcorn and enjoy the first annual Screamie Awards night! x
OMG!!! We're doing X-Men!!!.....what's that Paul? Some New X-Men Mutants!! That's guna be awesome right??...oh....oh no....wait...they're not part of the X-Men? They're a bunch of kids stuck in a hospital who don't use their powers and have incredibly uninspired, uninteresting chit chat while not using their powers......ugh.....ok.....well enjoy! :D
Na na na na na na na na BATMAN!!!!!! In this 1992 classic burton gothic interpretation of the Dark Knight we are in awe of Danny DeVito's horrifying and gruesome Penguin and Michelle Pfeiffer's slinky, sexy and deadly Catwoman....while this is one of our favourite portrayals of the caped crusader we also look at the character and DC universe as a whole - this is a good un! :D
This episode is called Iron Man but be warned we got a little silver screamered away and we cover a load of the MCU and various parts of the filmography - we knew we'd get a little carried away this season and can you blame us!! This blockbuster ushered in a new era of comic book movie magic and a new renaissance for Marvel thanks to the leadership of Kevin Feige - and of course some amazeballs acting from Robert Downey Jr and co - fun, cheeky, emotional, action packed movie gold! Enjoy! :D
We blast off into Super Hero season with some Glamazonian power from Gal Gadot and Chris Pine. This exceptionally well made Super Hero Smash deals with some challenging topics but remains fun, light hearted and entertaining. Respectful of the comic books, it becomes its own interpretation of how strong women and femininity are not two concepts at odds with each other. This movie has made us very excited for what's to come this Silver Screaming Season! Also we read out some of the millions of messages and comments we've had from our throngs of adoring fans. Enjoy! X
A coven of dancing witches enjoy different colour light bulbs in all the rooms of their dance school while killing their students for no apparent reason....this classic unsettling horror had myself and Paul arguing over the point of life...no not life....Suspiria! In the words of Bag O' Chips the 2018 version is Much Betta' !! Enjoy! :D
Here is a festive film for Christmas 2020 :D This clunker was a nice change from all the great cinema we've watched over the last number of weeks. Sometimes a change is good, other times you have to watch Halloween 3! Our guest co-host Fearghal from the Feckin-Checkin joined us to help dissect this unpolished turd - Merry Christmas ya'll and here's to a better 2021 X
After a brief spell away (lark), we're back with our second Season of The Witch episode - 2020's The Witches. We do a bit of "compare and contrasting" with the book and the 1990 classic; Anjelica vs Anne/Octavia vs Mai, long for a Witches expanded universe (just what exactly are the witches long term plans?) and briefly cover the #NotAWitch controversy. NOOO GOORRRLICC!!!!
In perfect time for Halloween in this weird 2020 world we live in, we try and lift your spirits with this fabulously camp and hilariously magical magnificent triumph - Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy and Sarah Jessica Parker are living their best undead lives in this Disney classic. **Musical interlude - Witchcraft by Jynkx Monsoon**
He's a tramp but we love him! This howl of a time is a Disney classic with an endearing romance and some slightly...ahem...problematic portrayals of certain cultures - this episode is full of debate, laughs, a wonky synopsis (apparently caused by Conor) and some pro tips on responsible dog ownership :P Enjoy!
Our third episode of Disney Season sees us travel to the Scottish Highlands of Brave. We didn't go solo though, we were joined by one old friend-Dairíona, and one very very new friend-Fódhla, who at 6 weeks old must be one of the youngest podcasters ever, right? Feminist masterpiece or trope filled cliché? We couldn't quite settle on that point, but one thing we did agree on is that Merida is a stellar protagonist.
We deep dive into golden age Disney this week with our third guest star Dave! We explore the 1940s in depth with a little bit of sorcery finishing with our main event - Fantasia. This unusual combination of imagination, animation and symphony brings a new twist to the Silver Screamer experience :D
Come be part of our world this week as we are schooled on the Little Mermaid - from start to fin, this filled us with nostalgic warmth and had us singing along to some of the best music Disney has every produced. Don't be a poor unfortunate sole - treat yourself! :D
A sharp and on point classic comedy caper showing the best of Jamie Lee Curtis and John Cleese - this finale of our Heist series was a great send off to this genre - Paul finds his thesis statement a difficult one to stomach this week and we find out what our next genre is going to be! Enjoy
This week our good friend Ashwin dropped by for some sneaky podcasting. This crazy caper saw some of the top names in old Hollywood unite to bring us an intriguing, mysterious and sometimes comedic heist - with some dodgy bits thrown in - enjoy!
Suave, cool and a handsome bunch of lads - it could do with a femme fatale or two! This early 2000s exciting caper ticks a lot of boxes for us, but misses the mark in a few areas leaving it at a luke warm place on our list!
Three widows inherit a debt thanks to their dead gangster husbands and decide to take on the heist of a lifetime! This classic remake of an old TV show has a star studded cast and was underrated at the time (in our not so humble opinion!)
After a particularly odd week of pandemic plus US revolution, we take some time to discuss modern day politics, leadership, equality.....oh yeah and a slash-tastic movie with some interesting head blendering twists! Enjoy - #BLM
Ode to a slasher movie! This meta take on the slasher genre gave us nostalgia for our teenage years. A "who done it" with more bodies than your local morgue, Scream fits nicely into our list - We'll Be Right Back!!
Freddy Got Fingered? Sorry wrong flick. While most horrors have you staying awake so the boogeyman or Dracula doesn't get you when you're asleep, this had us staying awake so we wouldn't get slashed in our dreams! Another coffee? Yes please!
Strip back expensive lighting, costumes, make up and what are you left with...only The Shape...intro-ed with that iconic music, this suspenseful stalking nightmare led to many sleepless nights - the original slasher stands the test of time and paved the way for generations of this genre to come! oooooooh hallloweeeeeeen :P
FREEESH!! Drag up your life while watching Marylin Monroe sparkle on the silver screen opposite two titans of acting! This campy classic Hollywood farce was a progressive period piece when it was made, while staying true to its time - laughs, winks and gets ya to think.... PS I wanna be loved by you - nobody else but you!
A charming, light made-for-tv movie with some stars enjoying an easy breezy acting gig. This Roald Dahl classic brought to life by Ireland's Dearbhla Walsh didn't wow us but left us with a warm fuzzy feeling of hope inside - despite some dubious attempts at courting by Dustin Hoffman! :D
This enjoyable piece of fluff had tears, laughs and some groans too. A story of self discovery and friendship overcoming some average and reasonable odds :P
We're beautiful!! This Ozzie RomCom had us laughing, crying and so much more - not quite topping our list, it's still worth a watch!
TRADITION!!!!! This musical had us fighting over top place in our musical reviews but our wonderful guest podcaster Yvonne was there to help us out! L’Chaim!
Stylish, heartbreaking, endearing, traumatizing, hopeful and a banging score – what more do you want!?
This star studded adaptation tries to amuse us with singing, dancing, drama and comedy – unfortunately the efforts of these world class actors fails to hit the mark due to a meandering, nonsensical script following a misogynistic film director who, by the end, you don’t really care about. *Silver Screamer Rant #1*
We consider ourselves one lucky podcast to have included this movie in our Musicals genre. Excellent acting, great music, lots of laughs and tears. Oom pah pah, Oom pah pah give it a go!
From the dark mind of John Carpenter comes this classic action/adventure movie. In a dystopian future all criminals are put on the island of Manhattan – escape is only by death – when Air Force One gets shot down and lands on Manhattan, one man (an ex military turned convict guy with a serious ‘tude) must go in and save him – Snake Plisken. This classic 80s action movie had us disagreeing lots!
Five mad scientist medical students looking for fame, fortune and answers, dare to kill themselves with the hope of being saved by their peers and bringing back knowledge of the beyond – but it seems that the other side has other ideas and flips the spotlight on to the ghosts of their pasts! ooooooooh scary – an enjoyable film with some issues
This episode will give you a brief introduction about the stars of this show - our likes, dislikes and our fave movies! Don't judge us....or at least me...Conor - your favourite silver screamer :P
A cult classic fave from the early naughties - it's weird but wonderful and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did! Also...Jake Gyllenhaal - yaaaaaaaas!
A heartwarming tale of the ultimate cougar and her love interest who's looking for something more from life. This had us in tears at a few points and is very modern despite it being over 40 years old! Looooove it!
