We talk about the state of the left in the global north amidst the Gaza genocide and its inability to effectively do something about it, we talk about broader global shifts taking place at the moment, how the rest of this century is shaping up to look like, the role of spirituality or humanism in our left politics, combatting fear, cynicism, and individualism, the case for hope, and a whole bunch more. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their retirements from Test cricket during the IPL season. Yet, none of them were accorded a farewell.Overseas stars such as David Warner and James Anderson were able to choose their stage and script emotional farewell matches. Why can't Indian greats enjoy the same privilege? Is this down to the BCCI's inability to communicate better with its senior players? Pujara's retirement also raises a crucial question: Is there still space for Test specialists in modern-day cricket? In the latest episode of the Sledging Room podcast, Akshay Ramesh, Kingshuk Kusari and Saurabh Kumar debate whether India's modern-day greats have been short-changed in retirements. It's another Ari Aster movie discussion -- something we didn't think we would do after our "Beau Is Afraid" experience.BUT -- "Eddington" is something different for Aster, even though it does (justifiably for some, not for others) devolve into something of a "Beau Is Afraid"-style paranoid nightmare. It's his brand of absurdly cruel personal neurosis funneled through the cruelly absurd America of the 2020s, giving this film's hellish descent into meaninglessness (more for some, less for others) potency than his other films.Listen to the full, spoiler-filled episode to hear Amartya, Cris, Dhruv, and the Cinematic Liberties Podcast Guys -- Arjun & Ashwin -- discuss the merits and demerits of Aster's latest! You can (and should!) follow -CINEMATIC LIBERTIES PODCASTDo hit 'Follow' on Spotify if you haven't already to help the podcast reach more people!Follow our Instagram page: https://instagram.com/queenisdead.filmpodcast.TIME CODES Introduction ("War 2 Trauma") : [00:00 - 02:39]"Eddington" (Spoiler-Free): [02:39 - 39:25]"Eddington" (Spoiler-Filled): [39:25 - 1:13:25]"Eddington" & The Western Genre: [1:13:25 - 1:49:50]Outro ("Hindsight is 2020"): [1:49:50 - 02:01:51]REVIEWS REFERENCED1. Hello, Hello, HelloIn the latest episode of QID, Dhruv invites the creator, Arjun Sivakumar, and regular guest-cum-host of the "Cinematic Liberties Podcast", Ashwin Dev, to discuss one of the great filmic oddities of this year -- Danny Boyle's "28 Years Later" (now available to rent/buy on digital platforms). Before talking about the film, the three of them talk about the "whack" legacy of the franchise itself -- first discussing, at length, the historical significance of "28 Days Later," then, briefly, discussing the somewhat unfairly maligned status of its sequel, "28 Weeks Later" (Boyle and Garland only returned as executive producers for that). Finally, the discussion about "28 Years Later" itself prompts all sorts of responses from us -- confusion, amazement, contemplation, you name it. Which -- regardless of the film's narrative flaws and tonal inconsistencies -- is what we cherish most about it.Listen to the full episode to hear all this in a spoiler-filled discussion on the entirety of the "28 [insert timeline] Later..." franchise. You can (and should!) follow -CINEMATIC LIBERTIES PODCASTDo hit 'Follow' on Spotify if you haven't already to help the podcast reach more people!Follow our Instagram page: https://instagram.com/queenisdead.filmpodcast.TIME CODES Introduction (inc. Drawing from his experience at Uber, where he played a key role in accelerating EV adoption, Ashwin offers thoughtful insights into the real-world challenges faced by rideshare drivers and the broader EV community. Together with co-founder and CFO JJ Raynor, the Presto team is focused on creating practical, scalable solutions to make EV charging more accessible and efficient.Presto was born out of the realization that the fragmented charging infrastructure posed a significant barrier to EV adoption, particularly for drivers who often live in apartments or rental properties without access to home charging. The company aims to simplify the charging experience by aggregating various charging networks into a single, user-friendly platform. This platform allows users, especially those renting EVs from major companies like Hertz and Avis, to easily locate charging stations, check availability, and manage payments—all through the Presto app.The technology behind Presto includes a recommendation engine that utilizes machine learning to guide users to the most suitable charging stations based on availability, pricing, and reliability. Additionally, Presto offers white-label solutions and APIs for businesses looking to integrate charging capabilities into their own platforms, making it easier for fleets and logistics companies to manage their EV charging needs. As Presto continues to expand its reach across the U.S. and into Canada, the company is committed to enhancing the EV charging experience, ultimately aiming to eliminate the anxiety associated with charging for both new and seasoned EV users. Ashwin emphasizes the importance of collaboration and community in this journey, encouraging others passionate about the EV space to get involved. This episode not only highlights the innovative solutions Presto is bringing to the market but also sheds light on the broader implications for the future of transportation and sustainable energy. Importance of Prompt Engineering (32:57): Ashwin stresses the significance of prompt engineering as a general-purpose technology that can drive productivity across various business functions, not just within technical roles. Key Quotes:"There is always a big backlog in most organizations, which you cannot get done just because you do not have enough capacity. You cannot prioritize them. You cannot execute fast enough. And so, what prompt engineering and GenAI broadly does is take away the low-value tasks that you could just use AI and machine learning to do for you." - Ashwin Sinha"Prompt engineering—even though it has 'engineering' in it— I see that as a general-purpose technology. It's a bit like we've just got access to a super powerful search with a lot more analytical and reasoning capability. That's how I think of the usage of any of the foundational or large language models for, you know, the general population who are not in engineering or technical roles. Whether they're in business roles, sales and distribution, finance, marketing, or any of those functions, the use of prompt engineering just enables the next level of productivity for them. - Ashwin SinhaMentionsPrompt Engineering in the Age of AIAI Agent GovernanceThoughtSpot Spotter: Your AI AnalystScuba Diving and the History of the Liberty Shipwreck in BaliThe Importance of Child Education in IndiaGuest Bio Ashwin Sinha is the Chief Data Officer and Executive Director at Macquarie Bank, where he oversees the strategy and execution of Data and AI. DJ and Ashwin talk the #IndvNZ match from this year's #CT25 as 3 rain affected results led to a disappointing week, especially for hosts Pakistan.
Trauma is a universal experience, and our approach as health care providers to trauma should be universal as well. That's my main take-home point after learning from our three guests today when talking about trauma-informed care, an approach that highlights key principles including safety, trustworthiness, peer support, collaboration, empowerment, and cultural sensitivity. With that said, there is so much more that I learned from our guests for this trauma-informed care podcast. Our guests include Mariah Robertson, Kate Duchowny, and Ashwin Kotwal. Mariah discussed her JAGS paper on applying a trauma-informed approach to home visits. Kate and Ashwin talked about their research on the prevalence of lifetime trauma and its association with physical and psychosocial health among adults at the end of life. We also explored several questions with them, including how to define trauma, its prevalence in older adults, the impact of past traumatic experiences, the potential triggers of trauma screening, and the application of trauma-informed principles in clinical practice.
