Our exit today has us following in the footsteps of the Backwards Man. This week, we are talking about Freddy Got Fingered, written by Tom Green and Derek Harvie and directed by Tom Green.Along the way, we drop many more fancy words than you would expect given the movie: transgressive cinema, Dadaism, surrealism. Does that mean we like the movie? No. But it does give us a chance to talk John Waters, Drew Barrymore, Julie Hagerty, Razzie awards, MTV films, the Marx Brothers, Rip Torn's 1990s, and Tripp's high school car!Theme music by Jonworthymusic.Powered by RiversideFM.CFF Films with Ross and friends.Movies We've Covered on the Show on Letterboxd.Movies Recommended on the Show on Letterboxd.

The worst thing that happened in 2001. Special guest Mark Beach.
On a special bonus episode of Movie Review Rewind this month, Brandon and Stoney relive 2001's surreal comedy, Freddy Got Fingered, while taking a nostalgic look back at the phenomenon that was Tom Green in the early 2000s.
This week on End Credits, we're going out to the farm. Everyone yearns at some point for a more simple life on the land, and it looks like one of them is Tom Green... so he made a film about it. On this episode we're reviewing This is The Tom Green Documentary, and we will also take the unusual step of critiquing the critics and the rare times they've got it wrong. This Wednesday, March 19, at 3 pm, Adam A. Donaldson and Tim Phillips will discuss: Wrong Turns. The subject of this week's film is Tom Green, who once made Freddy Got Fingered, which was declared by one critic as "quite simply the worst movie ever released by a major studio in Hollywood history". Hyperbolic? Probably, which reminds us that sometimes critics are wrong, or at the very least over-the-top in their negative assessment of a movie, so to begin this week, we will talk about some critical misses. REVIEW: This is The Tom Green Documentary (2025). At the turn of the century a simple man made a splash on Ottawa cable access TV with his out-there sense of comedy. Tom Green took his eponymous show to Hollywood and then they started putting him movies. The world was his oyster, but then he got cancer and his career never fully recovered. In his new documentary about himself, Green looks at his wild ride and his latest turn as a proud farmer in Eastern Ontario, but is the life of Tom worth celebrating on film? End Credits is on CFRU 93.3 fm and cfru.ca Wednesday at 3 pm.

In episode 389 of Friends Talking Nerdy, Professor Aubrey and Tim the Nerd dive into the fascinating world of movies that the late, great film critic Roger Ebert despised but they personally adored. From cult classics like Fast Times at Ridgemont High and The Usual Suspects to offbeat gems like Freddy Got Fingered and Spice World, they explore why these films resonate with them despite Ebert's critiques. They also reflect on the value of developing a critical eye when choosing which movie critics to trust. Tim the Nerd then shifts gears to discuss a major shakeup in the media landscape: Universal Comcast's decision to sell off the majority of its cable networks, including USA Network and MSNBC. What does this mean for the future of television? Tim shares his insights and speculations. Finally, he examines the controversy surrounding Joe Scarborough's meeting with Donald Trump, despite Scarborough's long history of vocal criticism against the former president. Don't miss this thought-provoking and entertaining discussion! As always, we wish to thank Christopher Lazarek for his wonderful theme song. Tom Green's cultural impact peaked (and ended) with FREDDY GOT FINGERED, but did the movie really deserve its infamous reputation? We throw on our backwards suits and hunt for precious jewels in this anarchic comedy.
From classics to cultural to pop cultural, this Recommend or Refute rounds the bases to deliver discussions from the Australian outback's Mad Max 2 (1981), Osmane Sembène's snapshot of a post-colonial Senegal with Mandabi (1968), and the Canadian insanity invading the United States in Tom Greene's Freddy Got Fingered (2001). There's definitely something here for everyone, and if there isn't perhaps you should send us a rec or ref on our discord. See https://theafterpod.transistor.fm/ for more details

UW-Madison PHD Candidate Lance St. Laurent joins us to discuss THAT UNCERTAIN FEELING, as well as some comedic theory. We discuss our mutual admiration for elements of this relatively minor divorce-and-remarriage-style comedy, Lubitsch's attempts to tackle psychoanalysis and modern art, and the film's production origins. Additionally, we go deep on comic theory: relief, superiority, and incongruity all have their day, and we discuss the ways in which comedy involves collaboration between an artist and their audience. Lastly, we apply all this to the Tom Green masterpiece FREDDY GOT FINGERED, because that's germane. We have a Discord! For April's theme of AWKWARD LAUGHTER 2: THE FLOP we examine the cult status of some movies that weren't quite commercial successes in their day and while today's discussion wasn't considered an initial success, it did manage to get past the finish line in both financial success and long term it may have defied initial critical reactions. Panned almost entirely across the critical realms upon release (with some notable exception) the only directed feature film by Canadian comedian Tom Green has often worn the albatross of a “worst movie ever” ranking by many, but Tom Green doesn't mind the albatross. He might just hump it, masturbate it and wear it around. You know damn well we're talking about “FREDDY GOT FINGERED” from 2001. A now legendary film starring Tom Green, Rip Fucking Torn, Marisa Coughlan and more. Decades have passed and upon reflection, many have cited this movie as a true underrated classic. The contrast between its modern examination and initial reaction upon release seems more and more apart. Is it really one of the “worst movies” or is it a display of surreal and absurd genius the likes of which so rarely manifest in such a pure form? Movies like this are what this month is all about. A critical debacle of legendary proportions, Tom Green's Directorial Debut "Freddy Got Fingered" earned its controversial star a series of Razzie Awards and a rare Zero Star review from Roger Ebert. The consensus appeared to be that Green's notorious gross-out humor and manchild persona made for one of the worst comedies ever produced. After Tom Green softened his image by appearing in more broad comedies like Chasing Harvard, curious viewers have started to reevaluate that bizarre comedy as potentially being an avant-garde send-up of the comedy landscape of the time. Was Tom Green falsely accused of a heinous crime, not unlike Rip Torn's character? Or should Anthony Michael Hall have forced him to keep his day job?

Ok, one more shitty movie then its on to CHRISTMAS MOVIES!!!"Freddy Got Fingered" is a 2001 comedy film directed by and starring Tom Green. The movie follows the absurd and often nonsensical misadventures of Gord Brody (played by Tom Green), an aspiring cartoonist who moves to Los Angeles to pursue his dreams. However, his eccentric behavior and unconventional methods lead to numerous bizarre situations, including accusations of child molestation against his father (played by Rip Torn). The film is known for its outrageous and controversial humor, with Tom Green's character engaging in shockingly inappropriate and over-the-top antics. The title itself, "Freddy Got Fingered," is a play on words that adds to the movie's provocative and boundary-pushing nature.Check out the merch: http://shop.backinthedaypodcast.comFriends of the Show1 Man Mafia (twitch.tv/1man_mafia)Jayke The Gamer God (twitch.tv/JaykeTheGamerGod)IB Best Gaming (https://www.tiktok.com/@ibbestgaming)Intro for the shopSupport the show'Beavis and Butt-head' Cover art created by Joe Crawford

Get access to this entire episode as well as all of our premium episodes and bonus content by becoming a Hit Factory Patron for just $5/month.We're solo for the first time in a while to talk about the romantic comedy '10 Things I Hate About You', a take on William Shakespeare's 'The Taming of the Shrew' updated for the 1990s and set at a Pacific Northwest high school that looks an awful lot like a castle. We discuss the film's impecccable cast, featuring a host of 90s up-and-comers including Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Larisa Oleynik, David Krumholtz, Julia Styles, and the soon-to-be superstar Heath Ledger, who was taken far too soon. Then, we discuss the movie's place within the lineage of late-90s films, how it adheres to the rebellious sensibilities of the era, and (notably) the ways it disregards them. Finally, we talk about a recent article in The Washington Post which, coincidentally, references the film in its examination of the current proliferation of celebrity veneers, unattainable standards of beauty, and how these trends desecrate the authenticity and natural beauty that once defined the genuine sexual energy in media from decades past. Read 'Have you noticed that everyone's teeth are a little too perfect?' by Jessica M. Goldstein at The Washington Post.....Our theme song is "Mirror" by Chris Fish.

THIS WEEK: Daisies (1966) and Freddy Got Fingered (2001)When it comes to films that are dialed in on extreme provocation and destruction, it's hard to beat Věra Chytilová's landmark Czech New Wave classic, Daises or Tom Green's unfairly maligned 2001 magnum opus, Freddy Got Fingered. One is a complex takedown of patriarchal norms and authoritarianism. The other has Rip Torn getting covered in elephant cum. Tune in to figure out which one is which!Support Optimism Vaccine on Patreon
Always full of surprises, this week Dave has beer'd us Freddy Got Fingered. Yes, the Tom Green written/directed/starred: FREDDY. GOT. FINGERED. This movie is simultaneously WAY better than you think it is and somehow so much worse. Tune in, daddy! #PROUD *Freddy Got Fingered © 2001 Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation.
Jamie Kennedy stars in Son of the Mask, a film that is only redeemed by the 45 seconds of screen time that Steven Wright and Ben Stein had. When two of the most lethargic sounding men in the world are what carries a film, then maybe we need to talk about Jamie Kennedy- a man who once produced a documentary about how unfunny he was called Heckler... a film in which real comedians take on the subject of heckling while Jamie Kennedy basically apologizes for his career. According to Jamie Kennedy, this film fell short because there was a longer, more robust and superior version that was shelved due to studio interference. But we honestly think the movie fell short because of Jamie Kennedy. We barely made it 90 minutes, what the fuck makes you think we want to unearth the director's cut? Nearly nicking your newborn with a knife-like nightlight! Insulting ill fated infants! Pressure washer power pissing on padre! Family feet film finish! Kink-worthy kickers? Mucinex style booger sperm! Poorly planned baby wagers! Muhammed Ali Fart Follies! Domestic violence! Back-ordered buffoonery! Bob, the maestro of mischief! A case for Freddy Got Fingered! Schoolgirl cookie salespersons, and much, much more on this week's episode of The Worst Movie Ever Made! www.theworstmovieevermade.com
