Hoppers (2026) is an animated science-fiction comedy from Pixar Animation Studios and Walt Disney Pictures. Directed by Daniel Chong and written by Jesse Andrews, the film features voice performances from Piper Curda, Bobby Moynihan, Jon Hamm, Kathy Najimy, and Dave Franco. The story centers on Mabel Tanaka, an animal lover whose mind is transferred into a lifelike robotic beaver so she can communicate with wildlife and stop the destruction of their habitat—accidentally sparking an animal uprising in the process. Chong began developing the project at Pixar in late 2020, with the film officially announced in August 2024 after six years of development. The score was composed by Mark Mothersbaugh, and SZA wrote and performed the end-credits song “Save the Day.” Hoppers premiered at the El Capitan Theatre on February 23, 2026, screened at the New York International Children's Film Festival on February 28, and opened in U.S. theaters on March 6. PIXAR is back! Hoppers is the latest original animated effort from the studio and is looking to be (fingers crossed) their first original hit in quite a while. Now, to be fair, Elemental did have great legs and went on to make over half a billion dollars... but even that had a really slow start opening weekend. It continued on and made money becuase it was well received, and I think a similar effect will work on Hoppers even though it's already opening bigger. I have loved Pixar since I was a kid; like so many Gen-Z'ers, so many of their movies mean so much to me and I'm always ready for Pixar to shatter my soul & piece it back together all in a 100-minute family film. Based upon a popular off-Broadway stage play performed in the early '90s, this sweet-natured but raunchy romantic comedy was one of the first of its kind when it came out in the mid '90's: it focused on a budding romance between two gay men including the titular protagonist Jeffrey played by Steven Weber who then was best known as the star of the popular network sitcom, "Wings."  We follow Jeffrey on a journey of self-discovery amid his struggle to be comfortable building a new connection during the Age of AIDS....and yet most of this played for laughs thanks to an unending stream of comic vignettes written by Paul Rudnick, adapting his own stage show for the screen.  Michael T.
