It's time to talk about the black sheep of the HALLOWEEN franchise: SEASON OF THE WITCH. This 1982 paranoid sci-fi thriller infamously did not center around Michael Myers but instead on Silver Shamrock, a company whose trendy Halloween masks become the subject of scrutiny after an elderly shop owner is murdered by a mysterious assailant in the hospital. The old man had arrived the night before clutching one of the masks, whispering to Dr. Daniel Challis (Tom Atkins) that "they're gonna kill us all." Challis and the man's daughter Ellie (Stacey Nelkin) retrace the shop owner's steps to Santa Mira, California, a sleepy small town and the home of Silver Shamrock. And as they feel the town's collective eyes fix on them, garnering the attention of Silver Shamrock owner Conal Cochran (Dan O'Herlihy), they learn of what dark, ancient secrets lurk behind the factory doors. If you're a fan of movies like INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS and DEAD AND BURIED, this stylish, bonkers thriller, rightfully distrustful of corporate America and its voracious gaping maw, is a must-watch. It's equal parts prescient and entertaining.---Support the show financially by leaving a few dollars in the tip jar: (The current goal is to earn a year's worth of AMC membership. 4 movies a week for $26/month is a killer deal!)Rate and review The Movies wherever you listen to podcasts!Follow The Movies on Instagram, Bluesky & Letterboxd
While Michael Myers makes a cameo appearance in this movie as an actor (they play the original movie in the background!), the Shape as a force to be reckoned with is nowhere to be found in the third installment of the franchise.Instead, we get the tale of an Irish witch sacrificing millions of children to the season of Winter by using trick-of-treating masks empowered by dust from Stonehenge via hidden microchips. Get all that? Welcome to Halloween 3: Season of the Witch (1982)!
Holy bait and switch, Batman! (Like invoking the name of the caped crusader in an episode description that has nothing to do with that) Russ and Jared are back in the Cage zone for Season of the Witch (2011), starring Nicolas Cage, Ron Perlman, Stephen Campbell Moore, Stephen Graham, Ulrich Thomsen, Claire Foy, Robert Sheehan, and Christopher Lee. Stay tuned for an all-new Trailer Trash next week!

In the finale of this year's Halloween Series, Anna and Derek chat about the irresistible allure of Dr. Challis, the ethical implications of chiseling Stonehenge, and much more during their discussion of the cult classic horror flick Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982). Connect with '80s Movie Montage on Facebook, Bluesky or Instagram! It's the same handle for all three... @80smontagepod.Anna Keizer and Derek Dehanke are the co-hosts of ‘80s Movie Montage. The idea for the podcast came when they realized just how much they talk – a lot – when watching films from their favorite cinematic era. Their wedding theme was “a light nod to the ‘80s,” so there's that, too. Both hail from the Midwest but have called Los Angeles home for several years now. Anna is a writer who received her B.A. in Film/Video from Columbia College Chicago and M.A. in Film Studies from Chapman University. Her dark comedy short She Had It Coming was an Official Selection of 25 film festivals with several awards won for it among them. Derek is an attorney who also likes movies. It is a point of pride that most of their podcast episodes are longer than the movies they cover. We'd love to hear from you! Send us a text message.

Note: The Season of the Witch Replays will only be available until Nov. 1st.Today on the final day of Season of the Witch we did our group liberation ritual where we cross the threshold of belonging together. We gathered (over 200 of us!) in a virtual forested sanctuary to bring everything from this week full circle. And spoiler: it got emotional. Even our Capricorn moon team members teared up.Here's what went down:We cast our circle by welcoming all four seasons - the darkness and faith of winter, the relief and new beginnings of spring, the long hot days of summer, and the beauty in endings that autumn brings. Sara shared reflection prompts for journaling or card pulling for:Threshold of Seeing: Threshold of Trusting: Threshold of Timing: Threshold of Presence: Threshold of Belonging: Anna pulled group cards using the Sasuraito Tarot (gorgeous deck alert), and they were SO on point: The wisdom that emerged:Just by being here - whether live or on replay - you make it easier for someone else to feel like they belong. That's medicine for the witch wound we all need. Then we closed with: "I am not becoming powerful. I am remembering the power that was always mine. My season isn't waiting, it's here."Team TSE got vulnerable too: Pati shared about her move to Mexico (crying all the way from LA to San Diego) and choosing to trust herself over waiting for the "right time." Naomi pulled the Six of Pentacles and got slapped in the face with the reminder that it's okay to receive, not just give. Anna keeps pulling the same shadow work themes but in different octaves - proof that when you do the work, it evolves with you.The truth: Even when life is objectively good (roof over head, food on table, leisure time for rituals), we still get that "life eczema" feeling. That doesn't require fixing. That requires witnessing. That requires remembering we belong even when something feels itchy.Looking at shadow isn't a call to fix it - it's recognizing the ecosystem. Like the damp, shaded forest floor where mushrooms grow and worms thrive. We need that decay for the whole forest to function. Your shadow is part of your ecosystem too.Ready for more of this energy?Join us in Enchanted Journey - our rolling membership where we practice together at new/full moons, host seasonal events (Halloween class-a-thon starts Monday!), gather for coffee chats, and hold space for each other's magic. We've got THREE enrollment options now to make it accessible. Plus our physical lunar planner ships in November for annual members. Check it our here.Bonus: Current members get FREE access to our Salem, Massachusetts in-person event on April 15, 2026. (Tax day, get those done early!)Thank you for being here. You crossed five thresholds with us this week. Your season isn't waiting—it's here.Stay magic. ✨
It's 1982, what do you want, a medal? Get out of here! It's the forgotten classic of the Halloween franchise, unless you didn't forget about it! You nerd!
Note: The Season of the Witch replay episodes will only be available until Nov. 1st. Today on Day 4 of Season of the Witch, where we're talking about the separation between you and your magic - and spoiler alert: it's just a lack of presence.Remember that scene in Hook where Robin Williams finally sees the food during the food fight? That "there you are" moment when he remembers he's Peter Pan? That's what we're going for this week. You don't need to buy a bunch of stuff or get it perfectly right. Your magic is already here. Here's what we covered:We crossed four thresholds this week:Seeing (Monday) - witnessing where your energy leaksTrusting (Tuesday) - becoming your own true love's kissTiming (Wednesday) - finding your natural rhythmPresence (today) - discovering magic in your everyday lifeThrough today's visualization, you will explore your actual home - the kitchen counter that glows, the plant that sparkles, the throw blanket emanating warmth you never noticed before, the kitchen table that's magnetic with memory and love.Magic isn't something you do - it's your ability to create energy.Your practice today:Create a grimoire page for one household item (engage all five senses - even if you're not licking your kitchen table)Choose one simple daily practice: intentional morning coffee, grateful evening reflection, mindful walking, sacred cooking, or present moment breathingThe ancestors we connect with during this season of the witch? They got no special treatment for deprioritizing themselves. We're not about that. We're looking for the magic that's already here. You only need your own permission to create your magical practice.Join us Sunday for the final Group Liberation Ritual! We'll cross the threshold of belonging and remind ourselves we don't need to fit in to belong. You need to be registered for Season of the Witch to get the Zoom link delivered to your inbox. Register here. Plus - our Enchanted Journey annual enrollment is open through Sunday! Join our buffet-style membership with clubs (tarot, astrology, crafting, book club), co-witching at new/full moons, coffee chats, seasonal events, and our physical lunar planner. We've got an in-person event in Salem, Massachusetts on April 15th too. And we're creating a threshold rituals book together next year that you can hold in your hands with YOUR name in it. Join here.Go make some magic in your daily life. We promise it's better when you do.Stay magic. ✨
*Note: The Season of the Witch Replay episodes will only be available until Nov. 1st. Today on Day 3 of Season of the Witch, we're talking about rhythm - and how to find yours when life refuses to give you any. Here's the truth: we're all swimming upstream against our own energy. Doing things just to be busy. Doing things because we've always done them. Saying yes when our whole body screams no. And then wondering why we feel like square pegs in round holes all the time. Here's what we covered:We explored the lunar phases (that waxing/waning cycle) and the wheel of the year (those eight Sabbaths marking the seasons). Both follow the same pattern: growing energy → release moment → reflection energy → back to the beginning. New moon to full moon. Winter solstice to summer solstice. But here's the kicker: none of us can actually live fully aligned with these rhythms. You can't just hibernate from Samhain through Yule like nature intended. You've got graduations, weddings, holidays, 12-hour nursing shifts, kids' taekwondo, grandparents' appointments - life keeps happening regardless of what the moon or sun is doing. So what do we do?We create our own energetic rhythm wheel. Through the threshold of timing visualization, you explored:When you feel most energized (that "throw it at me, I'm good" energy)When you lose track of time because you're so engrossedWhen your energy naturally wants to plant seeds versus releaseWhen you're just done for the dayThen you mapped it on your own circle. To be a witch is to create energy, not respond to it.When you align with your natural rhythm instead of fighting it, you stop:Feeling like a failure for not keeping upShutting down your voice again and againDoing emotional labor for everyone else's scheduleLosing yourself in daily monotonyThis is how you reclaim your season. You become a season keeper for yourself.Your turn: Map your own energetic rhythm wheel. Notice where your energy naturally flows. See what your rhythm is actually creating for you right now.Join the conversation! Share your rhythm discoveries in our YouTube Community space and connect with fellow Enchanted Sisters navigating their own cycles.Want the full Season of the Witch experience? Plus - our annual Enchanted Journey membership is open this week only, and we've got an in-person event in Salem, Massachusetts happening in April! Keith and Chad take a deep dive into the Horror movie that answers the age ol' question..."Which season is it?!" That's right! It's not JUST Halloween season, Oh no no no...It's also. "The Season of the Witch"!!! Widely considered to be the BEST of the HALLOWEEN movies... Okay, that's clearly B.S. BUT, this Podcast will be Widely considered to be the BEST podcast about this HALLOWEEN movie!!! So sit back, sip your pumpkin spice latte, and try not to crap yourself in FEAR!!!
*Note: The Season of the Witch Replay episodes will only be available until Nov. 1st.Today on Day 2 of Season of the Witch, we talked about the witch wound and becoming your own true love's kiss. Here's the thing about the witch wound: we're all perpetuating it without even realizing it. That energetic battle where women fight each other for scraps of worthiness? It's alive and well. We've got community members here from 28 to 82, all in different seasons of life, all dealing with the same impossible standards: look good, be good, act good, speak well, do all the things. And it's never enough. The witch wound shows up when you tell yourself:"Be quiet" (your voice doesn't matter)"I don't want to bother them" (your needs are inconvenient)"Just stay safe" (different is dangerous)"I have to earn my belonging" (you're only worthy if you prove it)The counter spell? You become your own true love's kiss.Through today's threshold of trusting visualization, you will step into a playground where you can safely explore your identity and ask: What do I know that I'm pretending not to know? Then we got creative with three embodiment options - art journaling, elemental grids, or tarot spreads - because your energy is the foundation of your witchery practice. No amount of crystals will help if you're still running on curse stories.New stories to practice: My voice matters. My needs are valid. My difference is my gift. I belong because I exist.Perfect timing with the new moon moving into Scorpio - that burning down and rising up energy.Join the conversation! Share which embodiment practice you chose in our YouTube Community space and connect with your fellow Enchanted Sisters.Want the full experience? Register for Season of the Witch to get all replays, your workbook, the potion quest, and the special meditation. Plus - our annual Enchanted Journey membership registration is open this week only. Tomorrow: finding your rhythm (because sometimes life just be lifein').
Get ready for one of the most audacious and controversial horror films ever made: HALLOWEEN III: SEASON OF THE WITCH (1982) Special Guest Carmelita Valdez McKoy returns to discuss the movie that attempted to leave Michael Myers behind and make John Carpenter's Halloween an anthology franchise. Today on Day 1 of Season of the Witch, we broke out of that eight of swords cage and reclaimed our rhythm. This liminal space we're in right now - between summer and winter, between what was and what's coming - is the perfect time to finally see your energy. Not just feel the results of it everywhere in your life, but actually witness where it's going and where it's leaking away without your permission. We're talking about the sacral curse: that pattern where you downplay your desires, minimize your needs, and push aside what brings you pleasure because you want to be a "good person." And the good girl algorithm: automatically saying yes without checking in with your body first, tying your worth to how much you can do for others, and basically running on autopilot. Here's the truth the trees are teaching us right now: there are no bonus points for holding on to dead leaves. Your grandmother, your great-aunt, all the women who came before you? They didn't get extra life points for running themselves ragged. And neither will you.Through a guided visualization, you'll cross the threshold of seeing - discovering where your energy goes throughout your day, what happens when you say yes but mean no, and how your energy responds to disappointing someone. Then we get creative (because breaking the sacral curse requires creation, not just consumption) and make the first page of your Season of the Witch grimoire. You can reprogram your energetic algorithm at any point in time. This is where we start.Join the conversation! Head to our YouTube Community space to join in the conversation and connect with your fellow Enchanted Sisters.Want all the goods? Register for Season of the Witch to get pre-event extras, daily replays, your workbook, and the potion quest activity delivered straight to your inbox. Plus - our annual Enchanted Journey membership registration is open this week only with special savings and a free planner. See you on the other side of this threshold. Stay magic. ✨
Episode Summary: Welcome to the Advancing Women Podcast! In this Halloween-themed episode, we reclaim the witch archetype as a symbol of female power, independence, and solidarity. Building on last year's Season of the Witch, we explore how the witch reflects the experiences of ambitious women across history and today…from the backlash faced by independent women to the double standards confronting women leaders. Through media, history, and lived experience, we uncover how witches (and women!) have been feared, misunderstood, and sometimes punished for asserting autonomy. But there's a bright side: the witch is being reclaimed in fiction, in culture, and in women's networks, offering a model for persistence, solidarity, and strategic power. Join us as we dive into: The historical and modern symbolism of the witch How autonomy, economic independence, and ambition have provoked backlash across centuries The parallels between historical witch hunts and modern workplace double standards The power of covens—real and metaphorical—and what I call persisterhood Strategies for building networks of support, mentorship, and collective resilience This episode is a call to embrace your coven, celebrate your independence, and wear your power proudly. Because we are the persisterhood, and our solidarity, creativity, and courage are our most potent magic. “We are the granddaughters of the witches you weren't able to burn. Let's wear that badge proudly.” #covenofpersisterhood #seasonofthewitch #persisterhood #genderbias #leadershipbias #leadership #advancingwomenpodcast #genderequity Resources & References: Mona Chollet, In Defense of Witches Joan Williams, research on the tightrope bias and workplace double standards Media examples: Wicked, Practical Magic, Marvel's Agatha Harkness Historical context: Matilda Joslyn Gage on persecution of witches (Woman, Church and State, 1893) Connect & Engage: Subscribe, rate, and share the podcast! With just fourteen more days 'til Halloween, you know it's the right time to slap that Silver Shamrock mask on and win a big prize!! That's right, we're talking road beers, laser mouths, and 1982's HALLOWEEN III: SEASON OF THE WITCH!! No Michael Myers, no problem!! We're digging into the details of how this film zagged on the Halloween formula, cemented Tom Atkin's “f-boy” status, lost and gained entire creative teams, and rose from the box office ashes to claim cult classic status!! All this, plus dipsticking automotons, Stonehenge importation, improbable costuming, femobot swaps, Cheese-wiz cascades, disappointed ex-wives, white patent leather shoe enthusiasts, and the most Oogy-Boogy-filled edition of Choose Your Own Deathventure to date!! The Halloweenies keep their favorite October tradition going! Last year, Michael Roffman and Dan Caffrey ventured to the Haddonfield Public Library to read Dennis Etchison/Jack Martin's 1981 novelization for Halloween II. Now, they pick up where Etchison/Martin left off with 1982's novelization for Halloween III: Season of the Witch. Together, they discuss the dreamy digressions, the timeless political themes wedged into the pages, the depiction of Challis, and more. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. In this episode of More Than a Muse, Sadie and Stauney take a deep dive into the spellbinding world of witches - from the dark myths that shaped them to the feminist icons they've become. They trace the roots of witchcraft through history, folklore, and literature, unraveling how stories of broomsticks, cauldrons, and curses often reflected fear of powerful, independent women. Then, they explore how modern witches from Sabrina to The VVitch reclaim that narrative, transforming symbols of persecution into emblems of autonomy and empowerment. Tune in for an enchanting discussion on what witches reveal about society's relationship with women, power, and the magic of self-determination. Learn more about your ad choices. As summer wanes and the nights grow long, we turn to tales of witches, curses, and the old ways that never truly died. For centuries, harvest time has carried its own magic: charms for fields, blessings for homes, and darker stories of those who bent nature to their will.In January 1962, uncontrollable laughter seized a girls' boarding school in Kashasha, Tanganyika, then leapt from classroom to village to village. Over 18 months, waves of giggling fits, tears, fainting, and fatigue shut down 14 schools and afflicted about 1,000 people across a 100-mile region. The BOOKBY US A COFFEEJoin Sarah's new FACEBOOK GROUPSubscribe to our PATREONEMAIL us your storiesFollow us on YOUTUBEJoin us on INSTAGRAMJoin us on TWITTERJoin us on FACEBOOKVisit our WEBSITEResearch:https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/oct/09/un-moves-malawi-staff-vampire-scarehttps://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/oct/19/malawi-mobs-kill-two-more-people-accused-of-being-vampireshttps://africanarguments.org/2017/11/a-symbolic-representation-of-life-behind-malawis-blood-sucking-beliefs/https://www.equaltimes.org/when-rumours-of-blood-suckers-andhttps://www.voanews.com/a/malawi-president-crack-down-vampires-witchcraft-after-lynchings/4069571.htmlhttps://www.vice.com/en/article/how-colonialism-fueled-deadly-anti-vampire-hysteria-in-malawiThanks so much for listening, and we'll catch up with you again tomorrow!Sarah and Tobie xx"Spacial Winds" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/SURVEY Hosted on Acast. For centuries, harvest time has carried its own magic: charms for fields, blessings for homes, and darker stories of those who bent nature to their will.A rumour of “anamapopa” (blood-suckers) swept southern Malawi in 2017, spiralling into night patrols, roadblocks, and lethal mob justice. We trace how fear, witchcraft beliefs, poverty, and politics fed the hysteria, why aid workers fled, how authorities responded, and why the panic keeps returning. For centuries, harvest time has carried its own magic: charms for fields, blessings for homes, and darker stories of those who bent nature to their will.On the brooding slopes of Pendle Hill, the 1612 witch trials cast a shadow that hasn't lifted: matriarchs Old Demdike and Chattox, ten hangings at Lancaster, and a land still whispered to be guarded by familiars and phantoms. From a bricked-in “witches' cat” cottage to spectral hounds, disembodied voices, and dancing orbs, modern vigil nights keep colliding with the hill's grim past—some say the witches still answer when called. The BOOKBY US A COFFEEJoin Sarah's new FACEBOOK GROUPSubscribe to our PATREONEMAIL us your storiesFollow us on YOUTUBEJoin us on INSTAGRAMJoin us on TWITTERJoin us on FACEBOOKVisit our WEBSITEResearch:https://www.heritagedaily.com/2021/10/some-of-the-most-haunted-places-in-england/141752https://www.hauntedrooms.co.uk/pendle-hill-witcheshttps://www.spiritshack.co.uk/blog/haunted-places/pendle-hill/https://deadlive.co.uk/pendle-hill-lancashire-ghost-stories/https://lellalee.com/the-ghosts-of-pendle-hill-a-paranormal-investigation/http://marysharratt.blogspot.com/2009/10/most-haunteds-pendle-witch-hunt.htmlThanks so much for listening, and we'll catch up with you again on Monday!Sarah and Tobie xx"Spacial Winds" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/SURVEY Hosted on Acast. For centuries, harvest time has carried its own magic: charms for fields, blessings for homes, and darker stories of those who bent nature to their will.In 1647, Alse (Alice) Young of Windsor, Connecticut was hanged on Hartford's Meeting House Square—the first recorded witchcraft execution in colonial America. Sparse records and a deadly local epidemic frame her case, which foreshadowed Connecticut's quieter, decades-long witch persecutions long before Salem. Centuries later, Windsor (2017) and the State of Connecticut (2023) formally exonerated those condemned—finally restoring Alse Young's name. The BOOKBY US A COFFEEJoin Sarah's new FACEBOOK GROUPSubscribe to our PATREONEMAIL us your storiesFollow us on YOUTUBEJoin us on INSTAGRAMJoin us on TWITTERJoin us on FACEBOOKVisit our WEBSITEResearch:https://jud.ct.gov/lawlib/Notebooks/Witchcraft/witches.htmhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alse_Younghttps://connecticuthistory.org/alse-young-executed-for-witchcraft-today-in-history/https://www.newenglandhistoricalsociety.com/cover-connecticut-witch-hysteria-1647-63/https://www.legendsofamerica.com/alse-young/https://www.windsorhistoricalsociety.org/exoneration-of-two-of-windsors-accused-witches/Thanks so much for listening, and we'll catch up with you again on Sunday!Sarah and Tobie xx"Spacial Winds" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 Licensehttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/SURVEY Hosted on Acast.
