If this pod was live, it would definitely be sold out as we have a blast dipping into the Cameo well and visiting our friends the C*ck Destroyers, Christine discusses Everton's triumphant win and their avoidance of relegation, and we touch on seltzers, Pilates, horrific injuries, Michelle Pfeiffer, and uhh...acidic ejaculate. Plus, we learn there aren't a ton of people eating money online, Markelle Fultz gets himself into trouble for following a suspect account, and Stefan shows us one of the worst things AI has come up with so far. If you want to follow a suspect account, you can donate to the show at patreon.com/blockedparty, where $5/month gets you access to THREE bonus episodes every single month! This week, Zach Cherry makes his return to the show on our brand-new interview series "Heck/Cullen". Welcome to “Not Couple Goals” where co-hosts Allie Nelson and Tyler McCarthy do a deep dive into a different ridiculous romantic thriller from the vantage point of their long-term relationship. Allie, a TV writer/producer and actress, has an affinity for romantic thrillers, the more salacious the better. Tyler, an entertainment reporter and critic, often finds himself drawn in despite his better judgment. Join them as they explore all the ways it's possible to love too hard… like WAY too hard. In this episode, Allie and Tyler are joined by Pop Break Music Editor Kat Manos for a deep dive (get it?) into the 2000 movie “What Lies Beneath,” starring Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer, directed by Robert Zemeckis and written by Clark Gregg (yes, THAT Clark Gregg). Listen along as they explain the many ways this movie was spoiled for literally everyone, marvel at Ford's puzzlingly fit dad bod and and wade through the many obvious twists bubbling under the surface. Watching a movie where there's some sort of secret meaning you're supposed to interpret can be a risk — but if you didn't get Mother! (2017), don't worry, you're not alone. Writer-director Darren Aronofsky had to practically go on a press tour explaining all of the nuance that went over audience members' heads, but here at Spooky Tuesday, we're actually the leading authority on what may or may not be the story of a certain author who famously wrote about a raven. On our latest episode, we're unpacking all facets of the Jennifer Lawrence-led psychological thriller with a special friend as we debate Javier Bardem's appeal, Kristen Wiig's casting, and Michelle Pfeiffer's real housewife potential. My guest today is Jason Feifer. Jason is the opposite of a one trick pony. He's a multi-hyphenate: Editor-in-Chief of Entrepreneur magazine, podcast host, book author, keynote speaker, startup advisor, and my personal favourite: non-stop optimism machine. In this episode, we are going to learn about Jason's journey to, I know this is going to sound cliché and click-bait-y… embracing change. Because as much as we all know it's important to understand and accept change, not a lot of us like it, let alone thrive in change. Fret not, Jason is here to show us how. We cover a LOT during this conversation, such as:- Jason's career pre-Entrepreneur Media. In fact, we talk about his study choices during college and whether it was obvious to him from an early age that he was meant to be a journalist.  - How Jason pitched dozens of magazines and how one landed at Washington Post- Jason's time at small and large media houses: Men's Health, Fast Company, Maxim Magazine etc. and whether there's one position that massively influenced how he shows up in the world today - Of course, we talk about about Entrepreneur magazine. What was the company like back in 2015? How did Jason get hired there and what helped him get from Executive Editor to Editor in Chief in a very short time (one year)?- I geek out with Jason on a couple of chapters of his book to simplify the takeaways for you, whether you want to grow your career or company, or both. - Jason has met with and interviewed so many famous people Jason: Ryan Reynolds, Gary Vaynerchuk, Michelle Pfeiffer, Jimmy Fallon, etc. Which interview went surprisingly different from what he expected and what did he learn from the experience? - Jason's advice for someone who's in a career transition and how to best make the most of the situation, while being practical and aware of the day to day needs.Subscribe to Jason's newsletter: http://onethingbetter.email/Get Jason's book: https://www.jasonfeifer.com/book/ Follow Jason on Social Media:Jason on LinkedInJason on Instagram----------------------------------------------Liked this episode? MOVIE DISCUSSION: Melanie joins Melvin in discussing one of her all time favorite flicks, and the two also get into what makes The Prince of Egypt far more palatable than most Bible or Christian-marketed media.  Topics:(PATREON EXCLUSIVE) 42-minutes discussing a list of movies Christian's say are commonly known by other Christians such as Nacho Libre, The Book of Eli, and many others, and why we think they may be popular in the Christian community (PATREON EXCLUSIVE)What familiarity do Melanie and Melvin have with the Book of Exodus?John 1:1 makes it clear by stating that God's word is God Himself, as Christ also is God and therefore also God's word. So, when we create adaptions, we add degrees and opportunities for loss in translation when God's word is already authentic and reliable. This is a deeply important reality necessary for engaging in Biblical or Christian-marketed media: it is degrees away from God's literal word.Moses' character, strangely, is sort of depicted as a combination between Jacob and Moses. Other historical figures such as Aaron and Miriam, Moses' brother and sister are also depicted differently from Scripture.Getting into what's likely most memorable for people: the music!Melanie riffs on the closing song "When You Believe" and how it's full of platitudes. The Prince of Egypt stands apart from other Biblical or Christian-marketed materials, and the two discuss why that may be.The Prince of Egypt is already a mature PG family flick, but Melvin feels it would have been benefitted by being a little nastier.Recommendations:The Case for Christ (2017) (Movie)Beetlejuice (1988) (Movie)Support the showSupport on Patreon for Unique Perks! MOVIE DISCUSSION: Melanie, Daniel, and Melvin talk Ladyhawke, Richard Donner's fantasy family film featuring Rutger Hauer, Michelle Pfieffer, and Matthew Broderick. Topics:(PATREON EXCLUSIVE) 35-minutes talking about two Disney animated science-fiction box-office failures, Lightyear and Strange World, their absurdly confusing marketing campaigns, and how their lack of success isn't a surprise for keen-eyed film fans (PATREON EXCLUSIVE)Melanie specifically wanted to hear what Melvin and Dan thought of Ladyhawke. Melvin, for some reason, initially thought Ladyhawke was a wrestling movie.Melvin shares his strange fixation on Matthew Broderick.Melanie has been thinking about “remakes” a lot, and apart from the nostalgic joy she has with Ladyhawke, she's been thinking about what would make for a good remake of this charismatic fantasy flick. For Melvin, a remake, reboot, or sequel doesn't necessarily need to be tied down to anything, it merely needs to be in conversation with its predecessor in some fashion. He also proposes practical, fun ideas for a theoretical remake of LadyHawke. For Daniel, remakes are only interesting if they adopt ideas or messages and re-adopt them with new information. In other words, how does a political thriller change when the world changes? Some movies, even as you watch them, feel like they need a remake. Melvin proposes a couple.Remakes, ironically, are also very final. It declares that the old canon is over and that a new canon is being established.Recommendations:The Little Shop of Horrors (1960) (Movie)Poltergeist (1982) (Movie)Knowing God by J.I. Book Vs. Movie: HairsprayThe 1988 John Waters Movie Vs. the 2007 Adaptation“Musicals in March”The Margos continue their look at “Musicals in March” with the John Waters classic Hairspray, which started with the 1988 movie starring Rikki Lake, Divine, and Debby Harry. Based on his experiences of being a fan of the 1957-1964 Baltimore teen dance TV program--The Buddy Deane Show, Waters was a huge fan of R&B music. On the Buddy Deane show, the dancers were integrated, unlike Dick Clark's American Bandstand, which was based out of Philadelphia at the same time. Baltimore Magazine April 1985 by John Waters "Ladies & Gentleman: The Nicest Kids in Town!”Being a self-described “Super Fan” of the show, the director has a well-known career as an avant-garde-loving and bizarre artist who loves things that are in bad taste. His interest in something as wholesome as Buddy Deane made him think about writing a more accessible film about a group of teen dancers/local TV stars who fight racism and oppression with their love of music and dance. Given a modest budget of $2.8 million, the film was a box office hit, and the critics loved this new era of John Waters with even bigger hits in the 90s Cry-Baby & Serial Mom. Waters continues to write and direct his work and is very popular as an actor who appears in everything from Law & Order to The Marvelous Mrs. Maisles. In 2002, the musical version premiered in Seattle with music and lyrics from Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman and the book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan. Hit is not a big enough word for this adaptation's success in the 2000s. It won eight Tony Awards (including Best Musical) in 2003 and broke all box office records in London's West End in 2008. The 2007 movie was directed by Adam Shankman and stars John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Christopher Walken and continues the big box office that started with the original 1988 film. Welcome to the latest episode of Night at the Movies, where we discuss Marvel Studios' latest movie, "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania". As two avid Marvel fans, we have a lot to say about this latest installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and overall, we thought it was an alright film.Directed by Peyton Reed, "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" brings back Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, a.k.a Ant-Man, and Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne, a.k.a The Wasp, who team up again for another adventure. The movie also sees the return of Michael Douglas as Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer as Janet van Dyne, and introduces Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror, who is set to be the next big villain in the MCU.While the movie had some moments showcasing some impressive visual effects and action sequences, it didn't quite have the same level of excitement and impact as some of the other Marvel movies. The humor was there, as we've come to expect from Paul Rudd's character, but it wasn't quite as consistent or memorable as in some of his previous appearances. That being said, the movie does have some important themes that are worth exploring, such as the consequences of time travel and the responsibilities that come with power. It also sets up some intriguing storylines for future movies, including the possibility of a "Young Avengers" team-up.Overall, we think "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Mania" is an alright addition to the MCU. It's not the best Marvel movie out there, but it's also not the worst. We give it a solid 6 out of 10 Pym Particles. If you're a Marvel fan, we still recommend giving it a watch and tuning in to this episode to hear our thoughts and insights. Who knows, you may have a different opinion than us! And as always, don't forget to download, listen, and share this podcast with your fellow Marvel enthusiasts. So, whether you loved it, liked it, or thought it was just alright, join us in discussing "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" on this episode.Glad to be back. We are also reviewing Kang the Conqueror: Only Myself Left to Conquer Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania is a 2023 American superhero film based on Marvel Comics featuring the characters Scott Lang / Ant-Man and Hope Pym / Wasp. Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is the sequel to Ant-Man (2015) and Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018) and the 31st film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film was directed by Peyton Reed, written by Jeff Loveness, and stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang and Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne, alongside Jonathan Majors, Kathryn Newton, David Dastmalchian, Katy O'Brian, William Jackson Harper, Bill Murray, Michelle Pfeiffer, Corey Stoll, and Michael Douglas. In the film, Lang and Van Dyne are transported to the Quantum Realm along with their family and face Kang the Conqueror (Majors). Plans for a third Ant-Man film were confirmed in November 2019, with Reed and Rudd returning. Loveness was hired by April 2020, with development on the film beginning during the COVID-19 pandemic. The film's title and new cast members were announced in December 2020. Filming in Turkey began in early February 2021, while additional filming occurred in San Francisco in mid-June, ahead of principal photography starting at the end of July at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire and ending in November. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania premiered in Los Angeles on February 6, 2023, and was released in the United States on February 17, 2023, as the first film in Phase Five of the MCU. It received mixed reviews from critics, with the screenplay and storyline receiving criticism, while the performances (especially those of Rudd, Majors, and Pfeiffer) and visuals were praised. The film has grossed over $284 million worldwide, becoming the third highest-grossing film of 2023. Kang the Conqueror: Only Myself Left to Conquer The time traveler known as Kang the Conqueror has led many lives across many eras. He has been a pharaoh, a villain, a warlord of the spaceways — and even, on rare occasions, a hero. Across all timelines, one fact seemed absolute: Time means nothing to Kang. But the truth about the Conqueror is much more complex! Kang is caught in an endless cycle of creation and destruction, dictated by time and previously unseen by any but the Conqueror himself. A cycle that, once revealed, could finally explain the enigma that is Kang. And a cycle that begins and ends with an old and broken Kang sending his younger self down a dark path… COLLECTING: Kang The Conqueror (2021) 1-5 These sort of reviews usually go on our Patreon page so join up! Director: Peyton Reed Writers: Jeff Loveness Starring: Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Jonathan Majors, Kathryn Newton, Michelle Pfeiffer, Michael Douglas Runtime: 2 hour 5 minutes Synopsis: Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne, along with Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne, explore the Quantum Realm, where they interact with strange creatures and embark on an adventure that goes beyond the limits of what they thought was possible. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania falls right in line with the other Ant-Man films with the one big distinction that it is Jonathan Major's MCU feature film debut as Kang and that alone is worth the price of a ticket (or several tickets). It seems that some folks have become confused with Marvel's approach to its films post-Infinity Saga. Basically they're not holding our hands and are going full comic book and that can be good or bad depending on what your expectations are. It's also very clear that you should be watching the Disney+ shows. Watching this film is definitely going to want to watch the first season of Loki again. Anyone who watched that last episode of Loki knew that Major's was going to kill it (literally and figuratively) as Kang and this film just solidifies it.  It's not a perfect film by any measure. But we think this is going to be one of those films that folks are going to go back to after the direction Phase 4 & Phase 5 have been going become more clear and have to reevaluate.  Like what you hear? The reader wields huge influence that empowers Hollywood chiefs to greenlight film, television, and new media. This webinar examines the core components of coverage, how to write it, and provides tools and pro tips to navigate the reading profession – led by two preeminent Hollywood readers. By pulling back the curtain on this creative process, the webinar also gives writers, directors, actors, and producers a rare look inside the mind of those who decide the fate of their material. Chris prioritizes emotionality and his client's character role and development ahead of the overall story solidity. He shared some tips for new writers, some lessons learned from bad scripts, what goes on behind the agency curtain and the blessing of untapping a story's best version from re-writes.Enjoy my conversation with Christopher Lockhart.
