Grab your Comic-Con lanyards and punch your train tickets, because the studio is taking a trip to the underworld! This week on The Filmlosophers, Hosts Eddie and Spencer are joined by the ever-glorious Intern Manager/Managing Intern Amy for a massively packed episode discussing the latest in pop culture and a legendary Broadway hit hitting the big screen. The San Diego Comic-Con Aftermath Before the crew boards the train to the underworld, they unpack the massive, earth-shattering news that rocked their pop-culture hearts at last week's San Diego Comic-Con. With the dust settling from the ultimate nerd Mecca, Eddie, Spencer, and Amy unveil what hit them the hardest from the convention floor. The team geeks out over Marvel's historic Hall H presentation, buzzing over the massive announcements of Ryan Gosling joining the MCU as Ghost Rider and the highly anticipated confirmation of Black Panther 3. The trio also dives into the jaw-dropping Avengers: Doomsday trailer, dissecting Robert Downey Jr.'s terrifying debut as Victor Von Doom and what it means for the future of the cinematic universe. A Cinematic Journey to Hadestown Once the convention hype is unpacked, the team ventures far below to review their cinematic experience of the absolute box-office juggernaut, Hadestown: The Musical. The crew discusses the historic achievement of the professional live stage capture, which was filmed with the original Broadway cast in London and just shattered the theatrical record previously held by Hamilton. Eddie and Amy are Team Hadestown 100%, wholly celebrating the impeccable artistry, the breathtaking musicality of Anaïs Mitchell's score, and the phenomenal performances of stars like Reeve Carney and Eva Noblezada. However, things get a little heated as they try to understand Spencer's deep frustrations with the narrative execution of the century-old myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. While the entire table admires the sheer talent in every scene, Spencer reveals a few major reservations before he books his next ticket to ride this train again. Is this pro-shot a masterpiece of modern theater, or does the myth get lost in the music? It's time to raise a cup and find out! Tonight on Triple Feature, we turn the spotlight on Molly Ringwald through three films that capture the rise, strain and collapse of her iconic teenage screen persona. Pretty in Pink places her at the center of a class-conscious romance, where style, poverty and social humiliation matter as much as love. The Pick-Up Artist tries to move her into adult sexuality, pairing her with Robert Downey Jr. in a strange collision of screwball courtship, gambling debt and urban menace. For Keeps? pushes her further, using teen pregnancy, marriage and economic pressure to test whether intelligence and determination are enough to survive adulthood. Across all three films, Ringwald plays young women forced to become more responsible than the men around them, often while managing absent, broken or unreliable fathers. We discuss why she became the defining female face of 1980s teen cinema, how these movies have aged, and whether Hollywood ever truly understood what made her such a compelling star.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

Oppenheimer immediately established itself as one of the most important films in recent cinema. And after multiple viewings and further analysis, that belief has only grown stronger.Christopher Nolan has created far more than an entertaining and visually extraordinary epic about the brilliant scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer, whose work helped develop the atomic bomb that the United States ultimately used against Japan during the final days of the Second World War. This is also a film about opening the proverbial tube of toothpaste—releasing something that can never be put back—and forever changing the world as we know it.Nolan's masterful direction, the brilliant performances from the entire ensemble—including Cillian Murphy in the title role, Emily Blunt, Robert Downey Jr., Matt Damon, and many others—the exceptional cinematography and editing, and a story that remains as relevant today as ever all combine to make Oppenheimer a truly special, haunting, and powerful cinematic achievement. But looking back, was Oppenheimer truly deserving of the Best Picture Oscar among all the films released in 2023?Listen and find out what film critic Jack Ferdman thinks—and which film he ultimately chooses as his Rewatching Oscar winner for the year.Download, listen, and share ALL Rewatching Oscar episodes.SUBSCRIBE and FOLLOW Rewatching Oscar:Website: https://rewatchingoscar.buzzsprout.comApple Podcasts/iTunesSpotifyGoogle PodcastsiHeart RadioPodchaserPodcast AddictTuneInAlexaAmazon Overcasts Podcast Addict Player FMRSS Feed: https://feeds.buzzsprout.com/1815964.rssWebsite: https://rewatchingoscar.buzzsprout.comSocial Media Links: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, BlueSkyShare your thoughts and suggestions with us through:Facebook Messenger or email us atjack@rewatchingoscar.com or jackferdman@gmail.comMusic by TurpacShow Producer: Jack FerdmanPodcast Logo Design: Jack FerdmanMovie (audio) trailer courtesy of MovieClips Classic TrailersMovie (audio) clips courtesy of YouTubeSupport us by downloading, sharing, and giving us a 5-star Rating.  It helps our podcast continue to reach many people and make it available to share more episodes with everyone.Send us Fan Mail

Cyndy Etler was 13 years old when she chose foster care over going home. Her mother had stood in the bathroom doorway and watched her stepfather hurt her, and that was enough. She chose the ink on the fingertips at the police station over the house she had been living in.What followed was a month at Janus House — a youth shelter in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where the staff were the first adults who ever gave her a choice and respected the answer. It was there, at 14, walking to the corner store with a pack of Marlboro Reds and a new sense of what an adult could be for a kid, that she was struck by lightning. She knew what she was supposed to do with her life. Then her mother enrolled her in Straight Incorporated.Straight was a warehouse program that ran under the guise of drug rehabilitation. Parents signed over their child and left. The ACLU later described it as a concentration camp for throwaway teens. Cyndy had smoked marijuana three times and drunk beer once. She was held for 16 months, with her first contact with her mother not happening until five months in, through a supervised visit with a scripted exchange. She came out brainwashed, isolating in high school bathroom stalls, telling kids who tried to talk to her that they were not in her best interest. Then an English teacher saw her writing, read it out loud to the class, and said: Cyndy wrote that.On Episode 239 of Fine is a 4-Letter Word, Cyndy Etler — foster care survivor, Straight Inc. survivor, trained boxer, summa cum laude graduate, teen life coach, and author of Dead Inside and We Can't Be Friends — talks with Lori Saitz about what it took to get from there to here, what one adult's genuine interest can do for a kid's entire life, and why she tells every teenager she works with to watch for the adult who sees them and wants absolutely nothing in return. Her books are Dead Inside and We Can't Be Friends. Fresh off the heels of the success of 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier', Marvel quickly announced that the Russo Brothers would be returning to helm the next film in the Captain America franchise. What then followed was a series of announcements that gradually sent its fandom into a shared delirium. Robert Downey Jr would be reprising his role as Iron Man...this time as an antagonist. The film would loosely adapt the famed Civil War storyline. The Black Panther would be making his MCU debut in the film. Then the big one: Marvel had reached a deal with Sony Studios for part ownership of the most important character in their expansive roster. Spider-Man would be making his MCU debut in the film, played by relative up-and-comer Tom Holland. It was a lot to whet a fan's appetite, but it also raised slight concerns that maybe they were, quite literally, writing cheques that their mouths couldn't cash. Well, 10 years on, did they cash that cheque? Is 'Captain America: Civil War' one of the best MCU films? Would Steve & Natasha be part of the KKK? Meghan Markle's MasterChef Australia episode drops this weekend, and the internet has already decided she's at war with the show's most beloved judge. But dig into who's actually behind these headlines and the whole thing starts to smell like a very familiar beat-up.Then we're giving Marvel some tough love. The first Avengers Doomsday trailer is finally here, it's stacked with more cameos than we can count, and yet we walked away worried. We're getting into the return no one asked for, the "lazy" storytelling loophole, and whether this can possibly live up to Endgame.Plus the horror trailer that made our whole team scream — a contortionist ghost, a Jessica Chastain double, and a jump scare so inventive we've been forcing it on everyone we know. Pack your bags and prepare for a cinematic voyage of mythical proportions! This week on The Filmlosophers, Hosts Eddie and Spencer, alongside the ever-glorious Intern Manager/Managing Intern Amy, are taking a massive journey through history, mythology, and the pop culture news cycle. Trailers, Layoffs, & Comic-Con Before the crew sets sail for Ithaca, they tackle a wildly jam-packed week of movie news. With the Mecca of nerd and pop culture officially underway, Amy kicks things off by sharing her biggest expectations, most anticipated panels, and overall hopes for San Diego Comic-Con. From there, the table shifts to the unfortunate reality of the recent Disney and Pixar workforce reductions, questioning the industry logic behind cutting over a hundred Pixar jobs just as Toy Story 5 prepares to cross the billion-dollar mark at the global box office. The conversation then pivots to the massive trailer drops that shook the internet this week. The trio analyzes the Earth-bound, notably space-lacking footage of Avengers: Doomsday, featuring Robert Downey Jr.'s highly anticipated return as Doctor Doom. Shifting from superhero spectacles to sheer terror, Eddie breaks down the digital marketing analytics and campaign performance metrics driving the viral success of the traumatizing trailer for Jessica Chastain's Other Mommy. An IMAX Epic: Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey Once the news desk is cleared, the team delves deep into their grand review of Christopher Nolan's sprawling, $250 million R-rated adaptation of Homer's epic poem, The Odyssey. The crew discusses the sheer magnitude of Nolan's unique storytelling, echoing the widespread praise that this film is a visceral, must-see theatrical experience. The Filmlosophers marvel at the film's magical practical effects, emphasizing how the historic decision to shoot the entire feature on IMAX 70mm film elevates the terrifying reality of the mythical creatures and the perilous Mediterranean journey. The hosts also spotlight the impeccable score and the astounding ensemble performances, particularly praising Matt Damon's complex, wily portrayal of Odysseus and Tom Holland's desperate determination as Telemachus. With its grounded take on ancient Greek mythology, the crew sets the stage for a masterpiece that will undoubtedly go down in history as one of Nolan's absolute greatest achievements. Grab your Comic-Con badge and your IMAX tickets—it is time to get mythological! The Filmlosophers is streaming on all major platforms!

Take 240: What's NewBig week. Jonathan and JP are back and there's a lot to get into.List It or Nix It kicks things off with seven fresh trailers — Mayday, I Play Rocky, The Uprising, Behemoth, The Other Mommy, Bad Apples, and Doomsday all go through the gauntlet. In What We've Been Watching, Jonathan saw The Odyssey and then apparently went on a full childhood cinema tour — Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, The Pagemaster, Harriet the Spy, Stuart Little, Shark Tale, and Zathura. JP brings Project Hail Mary, Lawrence of Arabia, After Hours, and The Odyssey to the table, with House of the Dragon and Silo on the TV side. Then the news, and it's a good one this week. The Odyssey opened to $124.5 million domestically and $264.1 million globally — Nolan's biggest worldwide opening ever, beating The Dark Knight Rises. The only films that opened bigger this year are Toy Story 5 and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Jon Bernthal filmed the Trojan Horse sequence submerged in cold water, Nolan offered to pull him out, and Bernthal's response was essentially: try harder. The film has no real competition until Spider-Man on July 31, which gives it room to run on a $250 million budget that needs the legs. And then — the Avengers: Doomsday trailer dropped this morning. First proper look at Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. Thor rallying heroes, closing with "we need a miracle" before turning around stunned at a "hey pal." Channing Tatum as Gambit. Cyclops, Mystique, Ant-Man, the Fantastic Four, the Wakandans. Tickets on sale now. Opens December 18. The SDCC Hall H panel is Saturday — further reveals expected. It's a good time to love movies.

The first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday is finally here... and I couldn't wait until Wednesday. This is my genuine, immediate reaction after watching the trailer three times. No deep frame-by-frame analysis yet—just first impressions, early predictions, and the excitement of seeing Earth's Mightiest Heroes assemble once again. In this special bonus episode, I discuss: • My first thoughts on Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom• Why Thor immediately stood out to me• The Avengers, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, and more• What the trailer may be hinting at (and what could be misdirection)• Why this already feels like Marvel's biggest cinematic event since Avengers: Endgame A full breakdown and deeper analysis is still to come- but today... I just wanted to experience the hype with fellow Marvel fans. Avengers... assemble.

Good afternoon — July 20, 2026. On this episode of Little Column A, Little Column B, hosts Will Alimonos and Zach Bishop bounce between sports, movies, and everyday absurdities. They open with the viral story of a Florida high school senior who reportedly graduated with an eye-popping 11.99 GPA after completing nearly two dozen AP classes and enough college coursework to earn an associate degree. The discussion turns into a debate about academic competition, changing GPA policies, and whether achievements like that deserve their own unique recognition. From there, the conversation shifts to the NBA, breaking down the three-team trade involving Luguentz Dort, why Oklahoma City prioritized financial flexibility, and how modern front offices increasingly value cap management as much as talent. They also dive into LeBron James rumors, Celtics-Lakers storylines, offseason speculation, and what the league's biggest stars mean for scheduling and television interest. The second half focuses on Hollywood, with a deep discussion about Marvel's future, Robert Downey Jr.'s return as Doctor Doom, nostalgia-driven storytelling, Spider-Man's importance to the MCU, and whether superhero fatigue is really about quantity over quality. The conversation expands into blockbuster movie releases, premium theater experiences, and why buying opening-weekend tickets is starting to resemble purchasing concert tickets. The show wraps up with classic "Little Column A, Little Column B" randomness: Larry David-inspired solutions to everyday annoyances, debates over traffic laws, self-driving cars, speed cameras, and the Wall Street Journal's "Million Beers" challenge. Your iconic turn as a superhero made you one of Hollywood's most beloved (and well paid) stars, jump-started a genre's total dominance of the cinematic landscape, and gave you a decade-plus of mega-successful sequels and spin-offs. But that gig has finally ended. What do you do? Well, if you're Robert Downey Jr., and you've recently wrapped your long tenure as Tony Stark/Iron Man with Avengers: Endgame, you quickly find another franchise to jump into. Unfortunately for RDJ, his choice - a new spin on Dr. Dolittle, the classic kids book character who can talk to animals - wasn't as successful as his MCU days. But is the movie really the disaster many (including RDJ himself, after the fact) made it out to be? We're scrubbing up and getting ready to examine, as "June Is What the Doctor Ordered" comes to a close. Plus, after the Dolittle discussion, we allow an online randomizer to choose our next four featured movies for the upcoming "Summer Surprise" series! HIGHLIGHTS • Jim and Dan break down the blurry Avengers: Doomsday footage leak and the debate over whether it was real, AI-enhanced, or both. • Robert Downey Jr. and the Russo Brothers tease Doomsday as a structurally ambitious, emotionally complex follow-up to Infinity War and Endgame. • Spider-Man: Brand New Day ticket sales arrive with a tiny cast video instead of the trailer fans expected. • The new Brand New Day trailer points toward a Spidey-versus-Hulk showdown and a world where almost no one remembers Peter Parker. • The hosts dig into the mystery of who still remembers Peter Parker, from Savage Hulk to a possible Jean Grey connection. • Marvel's The Muppets Take the Marvel Universe celebrates The Muppet Show's 50th anniversary with Kermit, Gonzo, Deadpool, and one very mean Uncle Ben joke. • Dan lays out his big Doctor Doom theory: what if Doom is the multiversal constant and Tony Stark was the one heroic anomaly? • Jim connects the theory back to Doctor Strange's “one” winning timeline and the possibility that the MCU only ever had one good Tony Stark.
