In this episode, Rob, Dave and Kurt dive headfirst into the peak-80s absurdity of Back to School, exploring how Rodney Dangerfield seamlessly translated his legendary stand-up persona into one of the biggest box office hits of 1986. They break down the film's iconic comedic set pieces, Sam Kinison's unhinged screen time as an intense history professor, and the surprising heart buried beneath the non-stop one-liners. They also take a look at the impressive supporting cast—including a young Robert Downey Jr. in all his quirky, eccentric glory—and discuss how the movie fits into the golden era of 1980s university comedies. Beyond the gags, the trio debates how well the film's humor translates to modern audiences and whether a billionaire buying his way into college life lands differently today. From the legendary "Triple Lindy" dive to Oingo Boingo's unforgettable soundtrack contributions, the guys leave no stone unturned. Stick around to hear their final ratings, favorite scenes, and where Back to School ranks in Rodney's classic filmography. If aliens landed on Earth tomorrow, would humanity unite to welcome our new extraterrestrial neighbors… or would we immediately start arguing about who owns the spaceship? You already know the answer. This episode of The Rizzuto Show begins with a perfectly reasonable hypothetical: UFOs have landed and aliens are officially confirmed to be on Earth. How are you feeling? Curious? Terrified? Mostly annoyed that the 24-hour news cycle will somehow make it the third-biggest story of the afternoon? The crew dives into UFOs becoming UAPs, government disclosures, Bob Lazar, Area 51 and whether actual extraterrestrial visitors could finally unite humanity. Rafe thinks having one common alien enemy might finally turn us all into citizens of Earth. Moon isn't buying that optimism and figures we'd probably start fighting over which country gets custody of the aliens before they even get out of the ship. Sounds about right.Back on Earth, St. Louis is getting a little Hollywood treatment with The Streak, a sports comedy filming locally about Caltech's legendary basketball team snapping a 310-game losing streak. The production needs roughly 1,800 volunteer extras for basketball crowd scenes, meaning you too can spend five hours waiting around for your glorious half-second of blurry cinematic immortality. At least they're bringing stand-up comedians in to entertain the extras between takes. Then we enter conspiracy territory with Tropical Storm Dolly. Yes, shortly after Dolly Parton's passing, the next named Atlantic storm happens to be Dolly. No, they didn't name it after her. Yes, the names were already determined. And yes, people online are still turning it into a conspiracy because apparently coincidence was removed from the Internet's vocabulary sometime around 2017. It's the kind of discussion a comedy podcast was genetically engineered to handle. The show also remembers the incredible Tim Curry, looking back at everything from The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Clue to Home Alone 2, Congo and his nightmare-fueling performance as Pennywise in the 1990 TV adaptation of It. Somehow that horrifying sewer scene aired on network television and an entire generation of children was simply expected to sleep afterward. The '90s were built different.Crap on Celebrities brings even more chaos: the Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni legal saga, Jamie Foxx discussing changes made to Django Unchained, a Quentin Tarantino-written Cliff Booth project, the original Sandlot cast reuniting for Dugout Dads, and the revelation that Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez grew up to become a firefighter. There is also a detour into a bizarre 2015 incident involving actor Mike Vitar because apparently even The Sandlot can't survive this show without us finding something weird.Ozzy Osbourne is getting his own Halloween Horror Nights attraction, Boston is celebrating 50 years with previously unreleased demos, Eric Clapton and John Mayer have a limited-edition guitar collection benefiting Clapton's recovery center, and Rupert Grint is returning as an adult Ron Weasley on Broadway. It's celebrity news, music news and pop culture commentary delivered with the level of professionalism you've come to expect from people debating alien treaties earlier in the episode. But then comes the real scientific research:Who has the most aura?According to an online ranking of effortless presence, charisma and coolness, Keanu Reeves sits at number one.Number two?Jesus. That's correct. According to the Internet, Keanu Reeves has officially edged out Jesus in aura.John Cena, Willem Dafoe, Christian Bale, Tupac, Robert Downey Jr., Matthew McConaughey, Michael Jackson, Jim Carrey, The Rock and Henry Cavill also make appearances as the crew debates who actually deserves to rank among humanity's most effortlessly cool people. Michael Jackson at number eleven? Rafe has questions. And frankly, so should you. Finally, the crew returns to Dolly Parton's remarkable legacy and the mountain of projects she left behind, including products, productions and even a song intended for release around her 100th birthday. Meaning Dolly apparently planned her content calendar farther into the future than most of us have planned lunch.Aliens. UFO conspiracies. Tim Curry. Dolly Parton. Hollywood. Ozzy. The Sandlot. Celebrity gossip. And Keanu Reeves defeating the Son of God in an online aura ranking. That's your comedy podcast for the day.Humanity might not be ready for aliens. We're apparently barely ready for a celebrity aura poll.Follow The Rizzuto Show → linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → 1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

The Avengers: Doomsday trailer has fans convinced there are two Doctor Dooms in this movie, and that one of them might not be Robert Downey Jr. at all. Frank and Squeaks break down the eye color, the two suits, and the Cillian Murphy voice theory, then look at what happens to Marvel when Kevin Feige's contract runs out in 2027. From there it turns into a full state of the franchises. The Feige succession list runs from Brad Winderbaum to Louis D'Esposito to one genuine wild card pick, before Star Wars gets put on the table: the Ahsoka trailer, Thrawn's return, Starfighter, and whether the Rey movie ever actually happens. Then Pirates of the Caribbean, where Disney is reportedly writing two competing scripts, and Frank pitches the real seventeenth century pirate queen whose story would beat both of them. Plus a Dungeon Crawler Carl check-in and a Question of the Week about how you would prove someone is an alien. 0:00 Intro and BlizzCon Countdown 1:34 Question of the Week: How Do You Test for an Alien 3:16 The Two Doctor Dooms Theory 11:05 Who Replaces Kevin Feige in 2027 22:36 Star Wars Without the Skywalker Name 29:33 Ahsoka, Thrawn, and the Sequel Era Gaps 34:15 Pirates of the Caribbean and Its Two Competing Scripts 46:22 Dungeon Crawler Carl Check-In Key takeaways: The two Doom theory rests on three small trailer details: the eyes reading green in one shot and closer to blue in another, two distinct suits, and a voice some fans think sounds more like Cillian Murphy than RDJ. There is precedent too, since dueling Dooms from different universes is the current main story in Marvel Rivals. Frank's argument for a recast is about longevity. RDJ's betrayal only works once as a surprise, so if Doom is meant to carry the MCU past Secret Wars, you need an actor you can keep around. The Feige succession shortlist: Brad Winderbaum brings television experience and would likely greenlight Midnight Sons immediately, Louis D'Esposito is the operations veteran who would need a creative partner like the Russos, and Frank's wild card is Iman Vellani, who is now writing comics for Marvel and Image. Both hosts want Star Wars to break from the Skywalker name completely, with Dave Filoni doing for the sequels what The Clone Wars did for the prequels. Frank also makes the case that Ahsoka, not Rey, is the real heir to the Anakin lineage. Disney has two Pirates scripts in play, one led by Margot Robbie as Red and one featuring younger versions of the original cast. Squeaks calls the Red version predictable, and Frank counters with Zheng Yi Sao, a real pirate commander the Chinese government eventually had to negotiate with instead of fight. Frank: "I'd actually respect Marvel for keeping a secret for once." Frank: "I've been hurt too many times by Kevin Feige." Squeaks: "It's time to go away from the Skywalker in total." Frank: "The true descendant to Anakin is not Rey. It's not even Luke. Frankly, it is Ahsoka." Squeaks: "That's the same thing we see everywhere. Find something new." All news discussed on this episode comes from GeekFreaksPodcast.com. In this episode, Chris Cochrane guest-hosts for his brother Ray and devotes the whole show to one event: Disney’s D23 2026 fan convention in Anaheim. Friday night delivered Marvel’s new X-Men cast, Adam Driver as Mister Sinister, a fresh Avengers: Doomsday trailer, and a release date for Frozen 3. Saturday turned to the parks, with Villains Land, an Indiana Jones dark ride, the long-awaited Expedition Everest yeti repair, and a Monsters Inc land opening in 2027. – Want to start a podcast? Instead of six or eight unrelated stories, the entire episode covers Disney’s D23 convention, which he compares to Apple’s WWDC. For newcomers, he notes that D23 is Disney’s official fan club, named for the company’s founding year of 1923. This year’s event ran two nights at the Honda Center: Friday for movies and television, Saturday for the theme parks. Marvel Finally Casts the X-Men Friday’s headline was the X-Men. The Associated Press put the crowd near 12,000, and Marvel Studios used that stage to name its rebooted team. Christopher Abbott plays Professor Charles Xavier, Inde Navarrette plays Rogue, and Maya Boyd plays Storm. Adam Driver rounds out the group as the villain Mister Sinister. Meanwhile, Samara Weaving, Kit Connor, and Sadie Sink were already known as Emma Frost, Cyclops, and Jean Grey. Jake Schreier directs, and the film arrives May 5, 2028. Chris calls the lineup spot-on casting. He singles out Weaving as a perfect match for the comics, and he points out that Sink already appeared as Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Navarrette is the least established name, coming off a breakout role in an indie horror film. Boyd, meanwhile, was the name he knew least, with what he believes is a Broadway background. Above all, Chris hopes Marvel does the team justice, and he recommends the animated revival X-Men ’97 on Disney+ as the best place to start. Frozen 3 Gets a Date and a Chaotic Reveal Frozen 3 lands November 24, 2027. That is the Wednesday of Thanksgiving week, the same slot the first two films used. The story centers on Anna and Kristoff’s wedding, which a new villain, an evil Ice Queen, disrupts. Jennifer Lee returns to direct with Trent Correy, and the full voice cast is back. However, the reveal itself fell apart. Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel performed a darker arrangement of “Frozen Heart.” Meanwhile, the audio failed, the video failed, and a set of doors never opened. Menzel asked the crowd whether they should try it again, and Bell simply narrated everything that was supposed to happen. Afterward, Josh Gad sang “Oooh, Samantha,” a new love song for Olaf. Chris is here for it, since Olaf is one of the franchise’s best comic characters. Pixar, Disney Animation, and the Rest of Friday Night Pixar chief Pete Docter laid out a packed slate. Incredibles 3 hits summer 2028 and follows Violet and Dash sneaking out at night to fight crime. Chris hopes that finally shows a grown-up Jack-Jack. Coco 2 follows in November 2029 with Benjamin Bratt returning as Ernesto de la Cruz. That has fans puzzling over how a villain already in the Land of the Dead comes back. Additionally, Pixar showed an original called Ghost Market and a Venice-set cat film called Gatto. On the Disney Animation side, Zootopia 3 is confirmed. The live-action Tangled arrives March 31, 2028 with Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel. Chris considers that casting perfect after her turn in Agatha All Along. A live-action Lilo & Stitch sequel, a new Simpsons movie, a Bluey movie, and a Kingdom Hearts anime series round out the list. For Star Wars fans, Ahsoka returns January 20, 2027. Chris also offers a hot take: he prefers Rogue One to the entire sequel trilogy. Consequently, he welcomes original stories like Ryan Gosling’s upcoming Starfighter. Adam Driver Is Mister Sinister Driver appeared by video rather than in person. He told the crowd that he and Kevin Feige had talked for years about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Then he announced he would play Magneto. After a long pause, he corrected himself to Nathaniel Milbury, which is Mister Sinister’s human alias. The gag landed because fans had floated Driver for Magneto for years. For anyone new to the comics, Chris explains that Mister Sinister is a geneticist obsessed with mutant DNA, a manipulator rather than a brawler. The cast met backstage only minutes earlier, so Chris is curious how their chemistry develops. Notably, Christopher Abbott previously worked with Driver on HBO’s Girls. The script comes from Beef creator Lee Sung Jin and The Bear co-showrunner Joanna Calo, two prestige-television names that have Chris excited. Why the X-Men Took Thirty Years to Reach the MCU A business story underlies the casting. In the 1990s, a financially struggling Marvel sold film rights to raise cash. Fox ended up with the X-Men and the Fantastic Four, and Sony took Spider-Man. As a result, Marvel Studios built its connected universe from 2008 onward without some of its most famous characters. The Hugh Jackman era of X-Men films belonged to Fox, with a separate continuity and no crossovers. That changed in 2019, when Disney closed its $71 billion purchase of 21st Century Fox’s film and television studio. Most coverage framed the deal as a streaming play, but it also brought the X-Men home. Chris sums it up neatly: Disney signed the paperwork in 2019, cast the film in 2026, and audiences see it in 2028. Ryan Gosling’s Starfighter, Ghost Rider, and VisionQuest Lucasfilm dated Star Wars: Starfighter for May 28, 2027. Gosling plays Kade Auberon, a pilot from the wrong side of the galaxy tied to the fastest starfighter ever built. Before he walked out, Disney played clips of him as a kid on The Mickey Mouse Club. Gosling said the company changed his life then and is changing it again now. He is also playing Ghost Rider in the Marvel universe. That thrills Chris, since Nicolas Cage last carried the character on the big screen. Meanwhile, the Disney+ series VisionQuest arrives October 14. Paul Bettany returns as Vision and James Spader as Ultron, and the trailer drops the two androids into oddly mundane human situations. Bettany joked that Vision has “rather inconveniently died several times.” Chris agrees the character has been through the wringer since WandaVision. The Avengers: Doomsday Trailer Avengers: Doomsday opens December 18, with Joe and Anthony Russo directing. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Hayley Atwell introduced the new footage. It offers the clearest look yet at Downey as Doctor Doom, who fights off Thor and takes his hammer. Evans appears as Captain America holding a baby, and Ian McKellen shows up as a haggard, long-haired Magneto. One quieter shot has Doom staring at a portrait of a lost wife and child. That frames him as a grieving avenger rather than a world-ender. He also commands an army of comic-accurate Sentinels. The cast pulls from the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and the legacy Fox X-Men, including Patrick Stewart. Hugh Jackman also appeared on screen to say he is willing to return as Wolverine, though that was not a confirmation. Chris, a self-described Marvel nerd, closes with a theory. He suspects the MCU’s Tony Stark was actually Victor von Doom, adopted by the Starks, which would explain the Downey casting. He also predicts the Fox-era X-Men die off in this film and that Thor may be the major casualty. If it happens, he wants credit for calling it. Disney Parks Around the World Saturday’s Disney Experiences showcase covered parks, resorts, and cruise ships, with Neil Patrick Harris hosting. Hong Kong Disneyland gets an Avengers pavilion that reshapes its Stark Expo skyline. Shanghai Disneyland is building the first land devoted entirely to Spider-Man, complete with a new coaster. Since Spider-Man is his favorite hero, Chris hopes to visit once it opens. Closer to home, Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure is doubling in size with two rides opening in 2028. Avengers: Infinity Defense brings back Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, Chris Hemsworth, and Downey, while Stark Flight Lab adds Brie Larson. A Coco boat ride into the Land of the Dead is also coming, with no height requirement. Chris admits he prefers California Adventure to Disneyland because the rides are better. Overseas, Disneyland Paris will retire its Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain overlay at the end of 2027 and restore the original Jules Verne theme. Paris also gets the first ride ever based on The Lion King. Tokyo Disneyland adds Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue, the first Wreck-It Ralph ride, plus a Space Mountain launch sequence designed with YouTuber Mark Rober. Finally, Disney Cruise Line announced three more ships, including the Disney Believe in 2027 and an entirely new class in 2029. Back in Anaheim, Tomorrowland is getting reimagined, which Chris welcomes because the land badly needs an update. The Magic Happens parade and the Remember Dreams Come True fireworks are both returning. For the tech crowd, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run now has a Fortnite crossover, where in-game missions unlock content on the real ride. Every New Walt Disney World Ride and Land Chris ranks the Florida parks Hollywood Studios first, then Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and Magic Kingdom. Magic Kingdom leads the announcements with Villains Land, now the official name. It features a Maleficent coaster through an enchanted briar and a boat ride through the Evil Queen’s catacombs. Reporting puts its scale near Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, and Glenn Close appeared in character as Cruella to announce it. Piston Peak, the Cars area replacing Tom Sawyer Island, adds two more rides, though their exact names remain unsettled. Additionally, the Carousel of Progress gets new scenes and a recast. Jamie Lee Curtis and Bryan Cranston will voice Mom and Dad starting late spring 2027. Chris, invoking Heisenberg, calls Cranston the GOAT. At Animal Kingdom, the Indiana Jones ride now has a name: Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent. It tells an original 1950 story inside a Maya temple, and Harrison Ford personally served as the physical model for the animatronic. Nearby, the Tropical Americas land brings Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto, with more than fifty animal animatronics and no height requirement. Then comes the fix park regulars have wanted for years. The Expedition Everest yeti broke soon after the ride opened. Rather than fix it, Disney lit it with a strobe for over a decade, earning the nickname disco yeti. Now it is being repaired and returned to full motion. Chris rates Everest among his top five rides anywhere, and he suggests riding it before the fix so you can compare. Over at Epcot, Spaceship Earth gets its first major story rewrite in nearly twenty years, shifting from communication history to human connection. Dreamfinder also returns to Journey Into Imagination, and Disney Experiences chairman Thomas Mazloum introduced that news with two words: “we heard you.” Mazloum added that Disney has more projects underway than at any point in its history. After this rundown, Chris believes him. Monsters Inc Land Opens in 2027 Monstropolis begins opening at Hollywood Studios in early 2027, but in stages. The headline door coaster will not be ready on day one. It is the first suspended coaster in any Disney park. It also uses Disney’s first vertical lift, hauling riders about forty feet straight up before launching them into the door vault. Instead, the land opens with the Glob Theater’s “Welcome to Monstropolis” show and Harryhausen’s, a working sushi restaurant lifted from the first film. The stage show features an original song by Randy Newman, his first ever written for a theme park attraction. Chris also notes that the restaurant name honors stop-motion legend Ray Harryhausen. Wrapping up, Chris names the X-Men casting and the Doomsday trailer as his favorite moments of the weekend. He hopes to cover more movie news on future shows, and he plugs Dune: Part Three, which also opens December 18. Chris signs off with the usual mentions: GNC Insider at geeknewscentral.com/insider, email at geeknews@gmail.com, the newsletter, and modern podcast apps at podcastapps.com. He also thanks GoDaddy for over twenty years of support. The post Huge Announcements From D23!! #1873 appeared first on Geek News Central.

In 2008, Ben Stiller made a war movie about people making a war movie, and in doing so, accidentally made one of the more prescient satires of 21st-century Hollywood ego, method acting, and the studio system's addiction to spectacle.Tropic Thunder arrived as a big, dumb action-comedy on the surface and a razor-sharp industry roast underneath, skewering everything from Vietnam war epics to blockbuster bloat to the cult of the "serious actor."Starting life as a Stiller passion project over a decade in development, it was championed by Steven Spielberg, and has an unrivalled mid-2000s ensemble; Stiller, Jack Black, and a nearly unrecognizable Robert Downey Jr., whose performance as a white Australian actor undergoing "pigmentation alteration" surgery to play a Black soldier showcased both his talent and the thin line of satire in Hollywood. It also, ironically, ended up with him getting an Academy Award nomination.Tropic Thunder brilliantly satirizes Hollywood's ridiculousness, especially the extremes actors go for awards, but it remains controversial. Despite its flaws, Tropic Thunder remains a relevant critique of the film industry and its egos, prompting discussions about depictions of race, disability and the evolution of comedic boundaries in cinema.Support Verbal DioramaLoved this episode? Welcome to Missouri, where the booze is conveniently located, the dispensaries are plentiful, and buying a car on Sunday is apparently where society decided to establish some boundaries.Episode 41 kicks off with Rizz and Moon embracing their new identities as BMW owners ahead of a BMW-sponsored golf tournament. Surely the logo on the hood counts as a parking credential, right? Lern attempts to explain concepts like “parking passes” and “hang tags,” but luxury has changed these men. They've seen the badge. They know what they're worth now. From there, this comedy podcast investigates what outsiders notice when they first arrive in Missouri. Is it the rolling green landscape? The hills? The beautiful scenery? Nope. It's the ability to walk into a grocery store and buy hard liquor like a civilized Midwesterner.A woman new to Missouri is stunned by the accessibility of alcohol and recreational weed, which sends the crew down a rabbit hole of grocery-store liquor laws across America. Apparently some states still make you visit a separate store to purchase booze. We assume residents there spend their evenings staring sadly toward Missouri and wondering where freedom went wrong. But Missouri has its limits. You can buy liquor. You can visit a dispensary. You can apparently grab a tall boy at a gas station with concerning ease. But if you want to purchase a car on Sunday? Absolutely not, you lawless animal. The discovery of Missouri's “blue law” leads to another revelation: Lern and Rafe enjoy wandering dealership lots on Sundays specifically because the salespeople aren't there. Rizz finds this behavior completely alien because, according to Rizz, he loves human interaction. Moon immediately requests that the program stop lying to its audience. Then it's time for workplace rage.A leaked video of former Detroit news anchor Taryn Asher berating a colleague launches a debate over losing your temper at work, professionalism, double standards and whether one meltdown should define somebody's career. Naturally, this means revisiting some of broadcasting and Hollywood's most legendary freak-outs.Chris Berman gets angry. Christian Bale goes nuclear. Bill O'Reilly encounters the phrase “to play us out” and briefly enters another dimension. The crew debates whether these blowups are understandable high-pressure moments or just adults being terrible to coworkers. Lern also shares her own battles against studio technology, proving once again that the greatest threat to morning radio isn't declining attention spans—it's a computer deciding at 5 a.m. that today feels like a good day to die. Then Crap on Celebrities arrives with some genuinely sad rock news: longtime ZZ Top drummer Frank Beard has died at 77. The crew looks back at the band's massive career, their unmistakable Texas blues-rock sound, their MTV-era reinvention and the scientific fact that putting on a ZZ Top song makes you approximately 34% more likely to feel capable of winning a bar fight. It also raises an important question nobody else was brave enough to investigate: Has anyone ever seen ZZ Top wearing shorts? The comedy podcast rolls deeper into entertainment chaos with Nick Jonas revealing that he completely bombed his audition for Frozen after arriving unprepared, Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan expanding his Arizona empire with a sushi restaurant and apparently carrying the same pair of traveling chopsticks for decades, updates surrounding Tupac's murder trial, new Queens of the Stone Age music, and the planned return of Ozzfest. The celebrity pile continues with Robin Williams' children fighting AI-generated impersonations of their father and reactivating his official Instagram account as a source for authentic material. The crew also looks ahead to Dune: Part Three sharing a release weekend with Avengers: Doomsday, because movie theaters apparently decided December needed its own traffic apocalypse.David Krumholtz says he's stepping away from acting after more than 30 years in Hollywood, which leads everyone into the great “I know that guy!” exercise before the conversation turns toward the tiny club of movies that have crossed $1 billion worldwide. That becomes a game of guessing the biggest box-office monsters before pivoting into actors whose careers were revived by one huge role: John Travolta in Pulp Fiction, Robert Downey Jr. in Iron Man, Keanu Reeves in John Wick, Brendan Fraser in The Whale, Bruce Willis in Die Hard and more.By the end, we've covered BMW privilege, Missouri liquor laws, empty car dealerships, workplace tantrums, ZZ Top, celebrity news, AI, Dune, billion-dollar movies and celebrity birthdays. And just when you think the show has reached the absolute peak of intellectual discourse, Rizz teases what's coming next:A school has a fart corner.Education is healing.Follow The Rizzuto Show → linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → 1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Roxy Striar and Mike Kalinowski are taking over The Kristian Harloff Show today to break down the biggest stories in Marvel, DC, and Hollywood! The main conversation centers on Avengers: Doomsday and whether Marvel Studios' massive December event movie could actually shatter the box office records recently set by Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Roxy and Mike discuss whether Doomsday could become a historic box office event and potentially challenge the biggest movies of all time. Marvel is also preparing audiences for Doomsday in a big way. Disney has revealed a pre-Avengers: Doomsday watchlist, while new information about Marvel Studios' 2028 slate gives us a better idea of where the MCU could be heading after Doomsday and toward Avengers: Secret Wars. We'll combine both stories to discuss Marvel's larger strategy and the future of the MCU. Then it's time for a LANTERNS SPOILER REVIEW! Roxy and Mike dive into HBO and DC Studios' Lanterns, discussing the series with full spoilers, the biggest moments, what worked, what didn't, and what it means for the larger DCU. They also discuss Kyle Chandler revealing that Lanterns nearly went in a very different direction when it came to superhero suits. ⚠️ SPOILER WARNING: The Lanterns discussion will contain spoilers. Finally, the writer of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has spoken out about DC's Supergirl movie following its theatrical run. What happened with the film, and what does its performance mean for the future of James Gunn and Peter Safran's DCU? Avengers Doomsday Trailer Breakdown, the New X-Men Cast, and the Lanterns Premiere

Marvel finally put the MCU X-Men cast on stage at D23, and Adam Driver as Mister Sinister might not even be the most interesting name on the list. Frank and Thomas break down the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer, the full X-Men lineup, the X-Men '97 season 2 finale, and the Lanterns premiere on HBO. The Doomsday conversation starts where most fan reactions did, with Robert Downey Jr.'s voice under the Doom mask, and moves into power scaling against Thor, the Reed and Victor history the trailer is quietly setting up, and which legacy characters are unlikely to survive December 18. From there it's the casting reveals: Christopher Abbott as a much younger Professor X, a Magneto without the Holocaust backstory, Inde Navarrette stepping into a role Lenore Zann has owned for three decades, and Maya Boyd going from Broadway to Storm with no screen credits at all. The back half turns critical. X-Men '97 season 2 lands an 8 out of 10 from both hosts, with a long argument about why the resurrection plotting undercut Nightcrawler's sacrifice and why the middle stretch never matched the Egypt episodes. Then it's full spoilers on Lanterns, including the ending, the Watchmen and True Detective fingerprints all over it, and predictions about the 2016 timeline and where Guy Gardner fits. 0:00 December 18 plans, Dune vs. Avengers Doomsday 2:20 Avengers Doomsday trailer, Doom's voice and power scaling 9:15 The MCU X-Men cast reveal from D23 22:50 Vision Quest first look and the case for bringing Ultron back 26:23 Star Wars Starfighter and the rest of the D23 slate 27:55 X-Men '97 season 2 finale review and grades 38:41 Lanterns series premiere, full spoilers 55:33 Weekly recommendations Key takeaways The Doomsday trailer sold Doom as a real successor to Thanos, largely on the strength of one shot stopping Stormbreaker and throwing Thor back. Marvel is casting the X-Men young on purpose. Magneto reportedly loses the Holocaust background entirely because of it, which Thomas calls pivotal enough to worry about. Inde Navarrette reads as an early, guarded Rogue rather than the fully powered version from the comics or X-Men '97, and the real question is how she sounds next to Lenore Zann's voice. Adam Driver as Mister Sinister lines up with the gene manipulation groundwork already laid in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. X-Men '97 season 2 gets an 8 from both hosts. The voice work, especially A.J. LoCascio's shift once Gambit takes back control, holds up even where the pacing does not. Lanterns plays like prestige HBO rather than DCU house style, and its best material is the pilot's first five minutes and the jailhouse interrogation, not the constructs. Quotes "How many times can you kill Patrick Stewart?" (Thomas, on the Doomsday casualty list) "This one felt like, oh, all hands on deck." (Thomas, on the Doomsday trailer) "The idea of resurrecting somebody needs to feel impossible to you." (Frank, on X-Men '97 season 2) "There's this cognitive dissonance for me with this season." (Thomas, on grading X-Men '97) "Both these men are living false perspectives of what it means to be a hero." (Frank, on Hal and John in Lanterns) All news covered on this episode comes from GeekFreaksPodcast.com, including the full D23 announcement roundup and the footage that never got an official release. AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY JUST GOT EVEN BIGGER — AND DOCTOR DOOM LOOKS ABSOLUTELY TERRIFYING! #AvengersDoomsday #DoctorDoom #RobertDowneyJr #D23 #TrailerReaction #MarvelStudios #MCU #FantasticFour #XMen #ReelRejects Aaron Alexander & John Humphrey react to the brand-new Avengers: Doomsday trailer revealed at D23, featuring Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom and a massive collision between the Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, Wakandans, and more. Directed by Anthony & Joe Russo, Avengers: Doomsday stars Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man, Oppenheimer) as Doctor Doom, Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us, The Mandalorian) as Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby (The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning) as Sue Storm, Chris Hemsworth (Thor, Extraction) as Thor, Patrick Stewart (X-Men, Star Trek: Picard) as Professor X, and Ian McKellen (The Lord of the Rings, X-Men) as Magneto. After watching the new D23 footage, Aaron and John break down Doctor Doom's ominous introduction, his green eyes, ceremonial armor, devastated surroundings, and the trailer's heavy focus on his history with the Fantastic Four. They react to Reed Richards confronting Doom, the emotional hints surrounding Doom's tragic past, Thor being blasted away with seemingly little effort, and the sheer power and presence Robert Downey Jr. brings to Marvel's next major villain. The conversation also explores the massive scope of Avengers: Doomsday, including appearances from Professor X, Magneto, Gambit, Wakandan heroes, Sentinels, and the larger multiversal conflict bringing multiple Marvel worlds together. Aaron and John discuss how the darker visual language surrounding Doom contrasts with the retro-futuristic world of the Fantastic Four, why the Reed and Doom relationship may provide the emotional core of the movie, and whether Doomsday could ultimately reset the MCU timeline heading into Avengers: Secret Wars. Someday, someone else will have to put on the armor… right? Robert Downey Jr. didn't just play Tony Stark—he helped define what Iron Man looks, sounds, and feels like for an entire generation. So if Marvel eventually recasts the role, how does another actor make Tony Stark his own without simply doing an RDJ impression? In this episode of Marvel Maniac, Eric explores whether audiences are ready for a new Iron Man, what parts of Tony truly belong to the character versus the actor who made him iconic, and why Hugh Jackman's return as Wolverine may offer a blueprint for Tony Stark's future. And then there's another possibility: what if Marvel doesn't need a new Iron Man just yet? Could Robert Downey Jr. return as a different Tony Stark with a different history—and could that launch an entirely new trilogy beginning with Iron Man: Reforged? It's speculation. It's theory. And it's one Marvel fan asking a question that once seemed impossible: Are we really finished with Iron Man? Listen wherever you get your podcasts! ⭐ Enjoying Marvel Maniac? Movie of the Year: 2006Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of KazakhstanThe Borat Podcast Phenomenon: Satire, Shock Value, and Staying PowerThe Borat podcast from Movie of the Year explores one of 2006's most controversial and talked-about films. Sacha Baron Cohen's mockumentary arrived as a cultural earthquake. Audiences had never seen anything quite like it. The film presented itself as a documentary following a fictional Kazakhstani journalist through America. In reality, it weaponized satire in ways that still provoke debate today. The Borat podcast episode digs into how Cohen achieved this effect. We examine the craft behind the chaos. Furthermore, we ask whether the shock value overshadowed the actual social commentary. Above all, this is a film that demands to be discussed.About the FilmDirected by Larry Charles, Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan premiered at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival. The Borat podcast traces the film's journey from festival premiere to cultural phenomenon. The film followed Borat Sagdiyev, a television reporter from Kazakhstan, as he traveled across the United States. Nominally, he was researching American culture. In practice, he spent the film creating uncomfortable, often hilarious interactions with unsuspecting Americans. The film was partially scripted and partially improvisational. Cohen's performance art approach meant that real people became unwitting participants in elaborate pranks. Consequently, the picture sparked immediate controversy about consent, cultural sensitivity, and the ethics of mockumentary comedy. The film grossed over $260 million worldwide and became a cultural phenomenon virtually overnight. By contrast, most independent comedies barely reach a fraction of that audience. Learn more about Borat on IMDb, or read the full Wikipedia entry. The Satire, the Method, and the Cultural ImpactAt its core, Borat operates as a Trojan horse. The film pretends to be a fish-out-of-water comedy. However, it's actually a scathing critique of American attitudes. The Borat podcast digs into this contradiction at length. Cohen's character exposes racism, sexism, and anti-Semitism by drawing them out of ordinary people. The satire works because audiences laugh before they realize what they're laughing at. Additionally, viewers must grapple with complicity. They enjoyed the comedy, yet that comedy often relies on humiliating real people. This tension is precisely the point. The method behind Borat borrows heavily from Andy Kaufman's tradition of transgressive performance art. Cohen spent years developing the character before filming began. He remained in character between takes. Furthermore, he worked with a skeleton crew to maintain the documentary illusion. Most of the "interviewees" had no idea they were being filmed for a narrative feature. This approach blurs the line between documentary and fiction in unprecedented ways. Notably, it also raises serious ethical questions that the film itself never fully addresses. The cultural impact proved enormous. Within weeks, Borat became shorthand for a particular brand of boundary-pushing comedy. College students quoted the film constantly. Yet critics remained divided on whether the satire was sufficiently incisive or merely cruel. The film's influence on comedy cannot be overstated. It opened doors for films like Brüno and The Dictator. Nevertheless, it also sparked a conversation about the ethics of pranking that continues today. By contrast, most comedies fade from cultural memory. Borat remains present in discourse because it asks uncomfortable questions.IP Freely on the Borat Podcast: What If a 2006 Director Made a Marvel Movie? Here's a thought experiment: Imagine Larry Charles directing a Marvel property in 2006. The result would be radically different from what the MCU eventually became. Charles brings a documentary aesthetic and deep discomfort into every frame. He's drawn to morally ambiguous situations. Therefore, his Marvel film would prioritize character awkwardness over spectacle. Consider this scenario: Charles directs Iron Man in 2006 with a 2004-era approach to superhero casting. The tone would be satirical, maybe even mockumentary-styled. Robert Downey Jr.'s character would feel less like a hero and more like a flawed businessman uncomfortable with his own mythology.Alternatively, picture Sacha Baron Cohen as a Marvel character in 2006. The studio would never allow his anarchic energy into their carefully controlled franchises. Yet imagine if they had. Cohen could have been a Thor-like character who doesn't understand Earth. His fish-out-of-water routine would align perfectly with fish-out-of-space storytelling. The scenes with other Avengers would crackle with uncomfortable tension. Baron Cohen thrives in social friction. A Marvel movie would provide an entire world of characters for him to destabilize. The result would feel more like a Kaufman film than anything in the MCU canon. Such a project would be too unpredictable for Marvel's brand management.PopFilter Hall of FameThe Taste Buds inducted Borat into the PopFilter Hall of Fame. This honor recognizes films that transcend their moment and become part of pop culture permanently. Borat earned this status for several reasons. First, the film's central character became a recognizable reference point. People who never saw the movie know who Borat is. Moreover, the film demonstrated that mockumentary could be both commercially viable and culturally significant. Additionally, it showed that comedy could be provocative and still find a massive audience. Finally, the picture's impact on subsequent comedy filmmaking cannot be understated. Every awkward-comedy and cringe-comedy film since 2006 owes something to this picture's approach.Hall of Fame status also reflects longevity. Rewatching Borat today feels different than it did in 2006. The film has aged in unexpected ways. Some jokes land harder because they reflect genuine changes in American discourse. Others feel more uncomfortable because our cultural standards have shifted. Specifically, the film's treatment of certain communities provokes more heated debate now. Nevertheless, the picture remains relevant. It remains a text people genuinely discuss in 2024. That staying power justifies Hall of Fame recognition. Why Borat Still MattersFifteen years after its release, Borat remains essential viewing. The Borat podcast episode demonstrates this staying power. The film documents a specific moment in American history. The movie captures mid-2000s attitudes with uncomfortable clarity. Furthermore, it serves as a mirror. What the film reveals about American culture in 2006 says as much about us as viewers as it does about the people on screen. The picture represents peak mockumentary filmmaking. Few films since have matched its ability to make audiences simultaneously laugh and cringe.Beyond its comedic achievements, Borat represents a risk-taking moment in mainstream cinema. The film was genuinely dangerous to make. Cohen and Charles put themselves in real physical danger. Moreover, they put others in uncomfortable situations without consent. This raises questions that remain unresolved. Can art justify its methods? When does comedy become cruelty? These aren't just academic questions. They're central to the film's power. Borat doesn't let audiences off easy. It forces us to think about what we're laughing at. Ultimately, that's why the film continues to matter. It demands engagement rather than passive consumption.Related Episodes from Movie of the Year: 2006Movie of the Year 2006: Podcast Intro, Part 1Movie of the Year 2006: Bracket Reveal2006 Mixtape, Part 1All Movie of the Year episodesFAQ: Borat Podcast and FilmWhat is the Borat podcast episode about? The Borat podcast explores Sacha Baron Cohen's 2006 mockumentary as a work of satire, examining the methods Cohen used to expose American attitudes. Tom Holland just said the quiet part out loud on the Spider-Man: Brand New Day press tour, and it changes how we should think about the future of the MCU's web-slinger. Speaking to the AP, Holland confirmed that a plan to pass the baton is already in place, and it points to Miles Morales rather than another rebooted Peter Parker in the mold of Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield. In this episode of Geek Freaks Headlines, we break down exactly what Holland said, why he wants to mentor the next Spider-Man the way Robert Downey Jr. once mentored him, and what it means that he also wants to keep playing Peter Parker for as long as Marvel will have him. That combination sets up something the movies have never fully committed to before: an adult Peter Parker acting as a mentor and possible leader in the MCU, with Miles Morales stepping into the suit as the fresh face.We also get into the big fan question hanging over all of this. With Beyond the Spider-Verse wrapping the animated Spider-Verse trilogy, the door is opening for Miles to cross into live action. Could Avengers: Secret Wars be the moment he arrives? We make the case for why that timing fits.0:00 Tom Holland Names Miles Morales as His Successor0:14 Holland Wants to Mentor the Next Spider-Man0:22 Holland's Full Quote on His Ambitions for the Character0:44 He Also Wants to Keep Playing Peter Parker0:58 What This Plan Means: An Adult Peter as Mentor and Leader1:14 Will Miles Debut in Secret Wars?Tom Holland says the plan to pass the Spider-Man mantle is already in place, and it leads to Miles Morales rather than a new teenage Peter Parker.Holland wants to shepherd the next actor into the role the same way Robert Downey Jr. guided him into the MCU.He also wants to keep playing Peter Parker as long as Marvel will have him, which opens the door to an adult Peter mentoring Miles on screen. This would break the pattern of recasting a younger Peter and repeating the high school years, which fans have seen twice already. With the animated Spider-Verse trilogy wrapping up, the path clears for Miles Morales to move into live action alongside Holland's Peter.Secret Wars is shaping up as a natural entry point for Miles, and it would be a fitting stage for his arrival.Tom Holland on his goal for the character: "I have a desire to bring Miles Morales to the screen and to shepherd whoever the lucky young kid is that gets that job, in the way that Robert Downey Jr. did for me. I think that would be a really awesome way to end my tenure as Spider-Man."Frank's take: "I personally feel like it's about damn time we get Miles Morales in live action."Do you think the MCU is ready for Miles Morales? Tonight on Triple Feature, we turn the spotlight on Molly Ringwald through three films that capture the rise, strain and collapse of her iconic teenage screen persona. Pretty in Pink places her at the center of a class-conscious romance, where style, poverty and social humiliation matter as much as love. The Pick-Up Artist tries to move her into adult sexuality, pairing her with Robert Downey Jr. in a strange collision of screwball courtship, gambling debt and urban menace. For Keeps? pushes her further, using teen pregnancy, marriage and economic pressure to test whether intelligence and determination are enough to survive adulthood. Across all three films, Ringwald plays young women forced to become more responsible than the men around them, often while managing absent, broken or unreliable fathers. We discuss why she became the defining female face of 1980s teen cinema, how these movies have aged, and whether Hollywood ever truly understood what made her such a compelling star.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

Cyndy Etler was 13 years old when she chose foster care over going home. Her mother had stood in the bathroom doorway and watched her stepfather hurt her, and that was enough. She chose the ink on the fingertips at the police station over the house she had been living in.What followed was a month at Janus House — a youth shelter in Bridgeport, Connecticut, where the staff were the first adults who ever gave her a choice and respected the answer. It was there, at 14, walking to the corner store with a pack of Marlboro Reds and a new sense of what an adult could be for a kid, that she was struck by lightning. She knew what she was supposed to do with her life. Then her mother enrolled her in Straight Incorporated.Straight was a warehouse program that ran under the guise of drug rehabilitation. Parents signed over their child and left. The ACLU later described it as a concentration camp for throwaway teens. Cyndy had smoked marijuana three times and drunk beer once. She was held for 16 months, with her first contact with her mother not happening until five months in, through a supervised visit with a scripted exchange. She came out brainwashed, isolating in high school bathroom stalls, telling kids who tried to talk to her that they were not in her best interest. Then an English teacher saw her writing, read it out loud to the class, and said: Cyndy wrote that.On Episode 239 of Fine is a 4-Letter Word, Cyndy Etler — foster care survivor, Straight Inc. survivor, trained boxer, summa cum laude graduate, teen life coach, and author of Dead Inside and We Can't Be Friends — talks with Lori Saitz about what it took to get from there to here, what one adult's genuine interest can do for a kid's entire life, and why she tells every teenager she works with to watch for the adult who sees them and wants absolutely nothing in return. Her books are Dead Inside and We Can't Be Friends. In this episode of Views From The 7, the crew dives into the difficult realities of long-term friendships, lending money, and recognizing when someone needs to be taken off your list for good. From personal experiences to relationship expectations, we unpack dating with intention, transparency, “girlfriend treatment,” and why marriage is more than just romance—it's also a business decision. Then we shift into entertainment as we break down the biggest announcements coming out of San Diego Comic-Con. With Marvel leaning heavily into nostalgia, we debate whether the return of familiar faces is enough to get the MCU back on track. We also discuss what's next for the franchise with Avengers: Doomsday, Secret Wars, and Black Panther 3, while taking a look at DC's upcoming slate, including Lanterns and Clayface, and whether DC can finally close the gap with Marvel. And because it's Views From The 7, we wrap things up with some lighter conversations—including the fast-food hacks we somehow never knew existed (yes…the soda lid buttons). ⏱️ Timestamps 1:00 – The “Friendship Limit” & Social Media Drama Ivan shares a personal story about a longtime friendship that unraveled over money. It's the tale of two trailers and DJ and Roxy discuss AVENGERS DOOMSDAY and CLAYFACE! This year at San Diego Comic-Con Marvel and DC have staked out very different visions for the future of superhero cinema. There are normal radio shows...and then there's this absolute disaster. This daily comedy show begins with one of the most important ceremonies in modern broadcasting: Riz officially retires his infamous women's anatomy dangler after completing his charity challenge, complete with dramatic speeches, ceremonial music, and enough unnecessary pageantry to qualify as a royal coronation. Then things immediately get worse. The gang reacts to one of the wildest concert stories we've heard in a while after a Morgan Wallen fan allegedly decided the bathroom line wasn't worth it and allegedly relieved himself directly onto families sitting below him. Was it assault? Could police arrest him immediately? Is "swamp justice" a legal defense? We ask all the questions that absolutely no one in law school prepared for.As if that wasn't enough, TikTok introduces everyone to the newest musical genre: Cigarette Mom Rock. Alanis Morissette, Sheryl Crow, Pink, Melissa Etheridge, Natalie Imbruglia, Fiona Apple, Jewel, Lisa Loeb and more all get lovingly grouped into one hilariously accurate category that somehow instantly makes perfect sense. The celebrity chaos keeps rolling with Christopher Nolan's latest blockbuster dominating theaters while Riz desperately tries to find IMAX tickets before heading overseas. The crew debates whether the Sphere is actually distracting audiences from concerts, Rush rumors start swirling, Kelly Clarkson shares way more information than anyone requested about food poisoning, Marvel finally gives us our first real look at Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, Jennifer's Body gets a sequel, Vanilla Ice heads to the Gathering of the Juggalos, and the crew somehow detours into Beaches, lupus, and why nobody can remember exactly how that movie ends.Along the way you'll hear Drew from Crippling Hot Sauce updates, celebrity birthdays, Crap on Celebrities, superhero confusion, World Cup halftime complaints, cat appreciation, and enough sarcastic commentary to make your morning considerably less productive. If your favorite kind of entertainment is a group of friends turning everyday headlines into ridiculous arguments while accidentally discovering entirely new genres of music, congratulations—you've found your people.Whether you're commuting, pretending to work, avoiding actual responsibilities, or simply looking for a daily comedy show that embraces complete chaos, this episode delivers everything from bizarre news to pop culture commentary with the sarcasm only The Rizzuto Show can provide. Thanks for making us part of your day.
